I recently bought a 2013 Civic Si sedan as my first car and I’m absolutely loving it. Probably the best Si considering it has that K24Z7. Ticks all boxes!
I don't see any other manufacturers making over 200 horsepower with a naturally aspirated 2.4 liter engine. Honda has been doing this since the 90's. Give credit where credit is due. Guarantee that if you remove the turbos from all of the competition those cars wouldn't come anywhere near 200 horses.
I agree I mean 201 HP from 2.4L is just impressive. Honda has done that for years. I mean even the 2.0L K20 motor from the S2000 for example, that made 240 HP from only 2.0L which is 120 HP/L. I don’t see anyone else doing that, and the engines are all N/A which is an even greater feat.
i just bought this a couple weeks ago and i'm 100% pleased with my decision. I drove the brand new st's and gti's as well and i think the si is faster acceleration wise but def not top speed. i just wish they did a little better job with the exterior but all in all its a fun drive
I have a 2012 Si and I absolutely love it. I checked out the GTI, Speed3 and WRX and only the Si fit the budget and feel perfectly. There is definite sporty high end rev with this model that some of the others don't have. In my opinion only the WRX made me waver in my purchase choice, but I like the svelte subdued effect of the Si that the WRX most definitely doesn't have. Great video review by the way.
Thank you! We are extremely thrilled that you enjoyed it and how it has helped you with your decision. Have you figured out whether you wanted the coupe or sedan yet?
I think that the main thing that most people that review this car never talk about is that its a good aftermarket car i dont know about others but if a got a new civic it would be mainly a aftermarket car its very easy to add a turbo to them and get very good results.
We appreciate the support :) our editor in chief chooses to leave out the WRX or Evo because it is AWD. Even though, price wise it does compete some buyers do not want or need AWD which is why he sticks to FWD models. We should be reviewing Subaru and Mazda soon!
Although the Si may not be turbocharged, acceleration wise it can keep up surprisingly well with the GTI and price wise it falls right in line with the turbo competition. The Forte and tC are less expensive and cannot keep up power wise.
Just sweet! Glad I got one (2013 Si Sedan) in blue. Planning in changing the exhaust configuration and the intake to add up about 20-30 more HP to it. Pretty darn good Si that can compete and beat any 4-cans out there... ...well done, Honda!
Its nice to have an option to get an NA car in the market of turbo chargers, for me as a medical student - reliability is the most important factory and with an Si this is the best choice, not to mention the awesome resale value. If you are a professional student or keep cars for more than the warranty period, get the Si - it will save you the headache of turbo charged cars and you will get most of your money back when you are ready to upgrade. As much as I have always been a bmw fan my whole life I really enjoyed this review! Sure the si isn't the fastest car out there, but there's something about the si that one is drawn to. It clearly shows honda's racing roots and a honda engine is built to last and the sound of v-tec is music to my ears. A great daily driver car.
GREAT review! one of the only good, in-depth reviews about the new si on youtube, all the others are dealers trying to sell the car. Im considering trading for an si and this video has helped a ton with my decision making process. i recently drove the new si and its a totally kick ass car! totally responsive, sleek and the new features are awesome for the price! Keep up the good reviews, guys.
That's really up to you, our editor-in-chief cannot drive without the satellite radio but if you don't need it than skip the navigation package entirely. Honda does offer the Sat radio as a dealer accessory but at $400 dollars, it's a pricey option again.
Again its not a TSX engine its a totally different engine WTF people.. Not the same engine the TSX uses K24Z3 while the Si uses K24Z7 engine get your facts straight.
You're comparing the price of this Si which has the optional $1500 Navigation package with a base MS3. You need to add the Tech package to the Mazda and that pushes the price up by $2500 to $27,500.
Michael Benson I just got one last week. Traded a VW turbo Beetle which had several reliability issues and it was barely a year old . Chose Honda for reliability. I do miss the turbo though.
It may be under-powered in terms of the numbers, but the lighter weight of the Si allows it to keep pace and be even quicker than some competitors. 0-60 in 6.1 secs according to most test, place it just behind a Speed3 and ST which do the same sprint in 5.8-5.9 secs.
Depending on how you equip your GTI it will be either a little or a lot more expensive than the Si. However, you will still notice the GTI is quicker, quieter, more luxurious, and more comfortable. The Si is louder, lighter, more fun around corners, and will have the superior resale and reliability over the VW. It's really up to you, if you want that more grown up, premium look and feel, go with the GTI, if you want more of a boy racer look with a screaming engine, go with the Si.
You just listed most of the reasons why the Si is still a great choice in the segment. Sure, performance wise, the Si cannot compete with the Focus ST and Speed3 but that doesn't mean the Si isn't fun to drive in its own way. Most buyers find the handling to be sharp, combine it with the high revving engine and quick shifting 6 speed; you have a vehicle that will still put a smile on your face. Match it with Honda dependability and value and you have the reason why the Si sells pretty well.
the b biddim I have one, lots of car noise and doesn't handle well 75+. I'll typically cruise the freeway at 80 so I notice it quite a bit. Not a bad daily driver but can't wait to get rid of it. Im glad it holds its value.
Everyone is different. You may think the WRX has a soft ride but others may say it's harsh. For you, the backseat can fit 3 people, someone else will say it's far too cramped. You may think the MPG is good, someone else may say its a gas guzzler. Everyone has different taste and needs, if you like your WRX, that is great. We simply state that for the majority of buyers, most will find the Si to be roomier, have more tech, get better MPG, and have a softer ride.
That's what we were thinking. While the 4 cyl LX-S Accord coupe does come very close to the price of a base Si, the Accord simply has a different mission. You need to decide which is more important for you: a comfortable, sporty looking daily driver, or a quick and high strung corner carver with a louder exhaust note. The Accord is def the more mature car but it won't be as fun as the Si to drive. It's really up to you, take both for a drive and then you should be able to make a decision.
The rear view camera will show up in the 5 inch i-MID display when you get a model without NAVI. Choosing between these two model will be tough. Both have strengths and weaknesses based on what is important to you. Both are priced roughly the same with the Accord Sport being a bit more. Tech features are pretty close, since all the really good tech is saved for the EX and above Accords. The Civic will be more fun to drive and quicker, plus easier to park but the Accord will be more comfortable.
You have to remember not everyone thinks the way you do. Sure the speed3 has way more power, but for some people it's too much. The Mazda is also 300 lbs heavier than the Si, so it needs more power. The Si has it's advantages in ride quality, fuel economy, and value while some people may dislike the styling of the Mazda compared to the cleaner appearance of the Honda. Both vehicle have their advantages, and in the end it comes down to your personal preference and needs.
You make an excellent point, however, keep in mind American cars are built to a much higher standard today vs.10 years ago when the Neon SRT-4 was out. Reliability is still unknown for the Focus ST but it's initial build quality is much improved vs its predecessor, the SVT Focus.
The GTI you are describing is not the same price as this. A fully loaded Autobahn model cost about $30,000 or $5,000 more than this Civic Si. While we agree, we want those premium features, not everyone does and it's why the Civic Si still sells so well.
While they do compete price wise, the fact that they are RWD gives the vehicle a different feel. Which is not a bad thing and we don't blame people for cross shopping however, some buyers don't want RWD which is why we stick with the FWD competition.
The 1.8 B18 motor never made 200 hp at least not in the U.S. The most it made came from the Intergra Type R at 195 hp. Impressive for sure but the old B18 motor had little torque and required high revs to get any power. While we do understand the appeal of high revs, this new 2.4L still supplies that high revving character while also giving you torque down low so the power is much more usable everyday.
Where are you getting $2,000 more? The cheapest Accord V6 coupe is priced at $31,140 without NAVI. The Si is priced almost $8,000 less than the Accord V6 coupe.
my parents just bought me this car for my 16th birthday and im absolutely in love with it we have some rims on it and some new racing tires which makes it grip super well 6 speed manual Transmisson all just perfect
@@ya_boi_zak5927 I would totally recommend trying to get one. That seems a bit high for that many miles but I think most cars are going way high right now. If you can see if you could get one cheaper from a high volume dealership. They might mark one down because it’s a manual it idk if that trick works now🤷♂️
@@Cms-rl3wo yea that's what I thought too. It's from a dealership. I know hondas last long so I wouldn't mind paying that much. I could probably find one from a private seller for cheaper. Either way I'm getting one!
In terms of road noise, the GTI is still the quietest. However, compared to the 2012 you drove, this 13 model is a bit quieter, you will hear more of that lovely exhaust noise more over the road noise. Is it improved enough? That's really up for you to decide, drive the new model when you get the chance :)
You have to look at the whole picture besides performance. The Si has more tech, a nicer interior, better gas mileage, and a better ride quality. Sure the WRX may run circle around it but the Si is easier to live with everyday.
you cannot compare the weight of a vehicle built from the early 90's to today. Safety regulations and tech features have forced all vehicles to be much heavier.
We can understand why you preferred the ST, for some the Si's character just doesn't suit them which is why the turbocharged competitors exist. Cars are supposed to be an extension of yourself and they express your own individuality.
I'm from the old school, the technique for engaging the clutch on steep hills is to use the e-brake, is tricky but it works, i never even knew there was a a" hill holding clutch".
Awsome review as always you the man lol dude you the best reviewer alive like no youtube channel does it better I enjoy watching all your videos I stay up all night just watching your car reviews keep them coming great job man seriously..
Apologies, we just meant if you don't know how to drive stick and have no desire to learn to not bother. The Si is a great car to learn how to drive stick on :)
Damn. You guys do great reviews. Not only you do a real in car test drive without cutouts, but you also give great feedback and information on the car at the same time :D I don't regret subscribing to you guys.
Question. They said with the weight at 2900 pounds that makes it one of the quicker cars in the sport compact category. What is it faster than? I have a soft spot for SIs not a honda hater but honda needs to do something better. For the price it cant compete with the MS3, ST, and real SCs. When your main competition is coming from Hyundai and Chevy turbo economy micro cars (veloster turbo/sonic rs) you have a problem. They dont even mention the Si when they talk MS3, GTI, ST, mini or WRX now
I just bought the exact model you tested same color and all, it's a great little tuner and I am very happy with the purchase Super Torquie and a lot of fun to drive.
Hill assist just keeps the vehicle from rolling back on a steep hill. We like it simply because it helps drivers who aren't as good driving a stick, especially if it's your car they are driving ;)
Yeah I used to hate Civics but only because I was judging the drivers rather than the car. And the new 2013 model was a huge update. Very affordable with a lot to offer. I'm so excited to get the car!
The last cool civic coupe, and the last NA civic SI coupe before it goes turbo! Miss the times when Honda made powerful, small and screaming NA engines! I wish diecast car makers made these!
The torque steer on the MS3 is not excessive even in stock form with the weak OEM engine mounts. I don't do launches in my car, but say I'm rolling along after shifting out from first and I put it into second, and floor the pedal. I would feel a bit of that torque steer even with both hands on the wheel, but it never once made me feel as if it was pulling out of control. My car is now stage 2, with all 3 upgraded engine mounts, and it's gotten even better.
Hey Sofyan, I absolutely love your videos, you do a better job than anybody else on TH-cam. However, I've noticed that whenever you're comparing "Sport Compact" or "Hot Hatches" to each other, you always seem to snub the Subaru WRX, a completely comparable car to the ST and the Speed3. I'm just wondering why that is =D Also, I'd LOVE to see a Speed3 or especially a WRX review!!
Dude, something's wrong here. I don't mean to argue or call BS on your statement but I'm 6'3 and just purchased the 2013 sedan Si two weeks ago and my head comes nowhere near touching the interior of the ceiling roof. Maybe the coupe is different but I'm actually astonished at how much head room I actually have in my Honda. BTW, I'm sure all of the skeptics can point to other cars that are faster/leaner/quicker/cheaper/what-ever... bottom line is that this car brings a smile to my face every day
This 2.4L engine sounds better than the new 1.5L turbo.
What sounds better?? The exhaust doesn't sound better. The engine note stock for stock sound the same. With intakes, they are subjective.
Exactly the new 1.5 has fake induction piped into the interior
Both cars fbo tune and guess whats faster? the 1.5l turbo
@@JonahLongworth There's only fake engine noise from the Civic SI with the 1.5t.
@@La-yt1wr yeah that’s why the k24 sounds better But either way the 2.0 in the type r is quiet

We were comparing this 2013 Si to the 2013 Civic EX we also reviewed back in Dec. The 12 Si and 13 Si are the same in that regard.
From personal experience; I have a friend with a 2009 GTi DSG - he currently has 94k miles on it and he already had to replace the turbo on it, the Dual clutch gearbox requires expensive fluid flushes (At least in the VW) every 30k miles (around $500 at the dealership),
With the civic si, all you need are oil changes & a transmission fluid flush every 50k miles (which is dirt cheap compared to the GTi)

Are the insurance rates cheap for this car?

There shouldn't be any differences between the 2013 and 2014 Civic since Honda significantly refreshed it this year.
The STI is roughly the same as the Golf R which is $10,000 more than the Civic Si.
We can understand why you preferred the ST, for some the Si's character just doesn't suit them which is why the turbocharged competitors exist. Cars are supposed to be an extension of yourself and they express your own individuality.
True, the Civic Si still lacks torque vs more powerful rivals. But again, at 2900 lbs it's 200-300 lbs lighter than a GTI, Speed3, and Focus ST
I'm from the old school, the technique for engaging the clutch on steep hills is to use the e-brake, is tricky but it works, i never even knew there was a a" hill holding clutch".
Your channel and review keep getting better and better!
You're right, we think the dated navigation system is pricey. In fact, if it didn't roll in satellite radio with the package, we'd skip it entirely.
That's what it's called... What would you call it then...
Not only you do a real in car test drive without cutouts, but you also give great feedback and information on the car at the same time :D
I don't regret subscribing to you guys.
Yes, Honda's manual transmissions all have that safety feature.
That window separation on the side doors near the mirrors looks like the ol 80s conversion vans the little windows that pop out lol
Very nice job reviewing the Si! You touched on alot of important details people are looking for when weighing their options. *thumbsup*
They dont even mention the Si when they talk MS3, GTI, ST, mini or WRX now
I like how you did this review camera wise. You should do it for all or them.. It may take more work, but it's worth it and doesn't bore the viewer
Probably not the Si model as it could get the teen in trouble with the law, but the regular Civic is always a great first car
Best review yet guys the i-vtec shift lights come from the old civic type r fd2
Brilliant review Sofyan. Hope to see more reviews like this.
I would buy this over the ST and speed3 but I would take a GTI/GLI over this any day. Still a pretty sweet car! And a great review!
How firm is the suspension compared to an fr-s? I'd like something sporty that won't destroy my back over bumps like the fr-s does.
FR-S will be a better track car but the Si will be a better daily driver.
Thank you! Very nice upgrade for you as well :)
Very impressed with the quality of the reviews on this channel, subscribed! Nice Civic too.
An excellent, comprehensive and unbiased review. I wish there were more like it.
Well done.
I loved the start of the video great editing skills!!!!!!!
wow. the vehicle changed direction when you turned the steering wheel. impressive.
Yeah I used to hate Civics but only because I was judging the drivers rather than the car. And the new 2013 model was a huge update. Very affordable with a lot to offer. I'm so excited to get the car!
I like how in the description, the integra was left out. bring it back!
The last cool civic coupe, and the last NA civic SI coupe before it goes turbo! Miss the times when Honda made powerful, small and screaming NA engines! I wish diecast car makers made these!
this video was great!!!! i loveeeeee the intro!! amazing job guys
Much higher quality!!! Awesome intro....BTW put your name in title I only watch your reviews
I'm just wondering why that is =D
Also, I'd LOVE to see a Speed3 or especially a WRX review!!
Look at the history of the Si name, has Honda ever put an automatic in it?
Dude, something's wrong here. I don't mean to argue or call BS on your statement but I'm 6'3 and just purchased the 2013 sedan Si two weeks ago and my head comes nowhere near touching the interior of the ceiling roof. Maybe the coupe is different but I'm actually astonished at how much head room I actually have in my Honda. BTW, I'm sure all of the skeptics can point to other cars that are faster/leaner/quicker/cheaper/what-ever... bottom line is that this car brings a smile to my face every day
