I bought a 2007 FA5 in 2011 fresh out of basic training with 70k miles for $15k. Today with around the same or even a little more mileage the price is exactly the same. It's got 205k on it now, but this past winter I pulled the engine out, bore/honed the block up to 86.5mm, put in forged JE pistons, Skunk2 Alpha forged rods, resurfaced/rebuilt the head with new valves, Manley dual valve springs, seals, plus replaced all of the engine seals and gaskets along with the timing/oil pump chains and tensioners. Got the Hasport motor mount set as the stock ones were pretty beat. Also replaced some other parts like the water pump, auto tensioner, a/c compressor and condenser. The K20z3 is a tank, it didn't necessarily need a full rebuild, but figured why not, especially wanted to beef it up to be able to handle a turbo. Taught myself how to do all of this and did everything by myself aside from the machining parts. Very rewarding experience and now I know how to fix everything with the car. In hindsight I should have just built this car out from the beginning instead of buying an FK8 Type R as the K20z3 is a much more potent engine than the K20C1 right out the gate, and wayyyy cheaper to build too. Plus the z3 is port injection so upgrading fueling is much easier and cheaper. Put the Hondata direct injection fuel system in the Type R and that was $3k for just a ~24% increase in fuel flow.
I bought an 2007 Civic LX coupe for $1500 and am swapping a K20A in right now. New mount kit coming from Hasport for that soon. I also bought a 2007 Civic Hybrid Sedan for $1500 to daily. @@mitchellhamilton1753 if you look it up, it surprisingly is a big change for them. The factory has boost limited in 1st and 2nd gear and it falls off hard up top. With a tune alone it really wakes it up, and the intake makes a big difference especially the turbo inlet pipe
One thing I used to do when I was younger was put small pieces of vinyl over the holes and it worked pretty good and you didnt have anything sticking up.
Yes!!!! My exact same car. Same color too. Love my Si. Hybrid racing intake 👍 Yonaka exhaust meh, doesnt sound bad but Full Race is the way to go with 8th gen Si's. Mugen spoiler is a no go for me👎. Hate how that looks. Front lip 👍. Btw is MOOGEN not Mewgen. Cant wait for next episode.
For the rear plugs you can go to vinyl shop and have them cut out some circles. Than just paint those and stick them on. Water tight and super flush. Car is looking good so far.
Now if your interested in really doing this to an 8th gen si, use this guide instead: 1) Detail + Ceramic coat 2) Fluids + Brakes 3) invidia q300 catback (Highest quality off the shelf exhaust, sounds excellent and never rasps) 4) Stock wheels + 200TW tires (Save money, invest in what matters + stock wheels look great and are enkei) 5) Stock airbox w/ K&N drop in filter (Hybrid CAI gives MINOR gains at the risk of getting hydro-locked. Stock airbox is excellent on the 8th gen si and s2000. For N/A setup the stock airbox is more than adequate. solid OEM+ car and still retains the stock look collectors will love in 10 years or so
As a 9th gen Civic owner, this made my Saturday. Excited to see the rest of this surprise build. I’m also interested to see how those Enkei’s look on it too!
Crazy the amount of rust you guys in Canada can get away with, in my country this would be considered a rust bucket and would take a shitload of rust repair before it gets a pass and is allowed back on the road
Dave, the oem hose clamps are not going to work as intended on the aftermarket radiator hoses. They don't clamp down hard enough to prevent a leak. Had overheating issues and coolant loss because the oem spring clamp was allowing a slow leak from the thinner silicone upper rad hose. ended up replacing every single one with worm gear or other style clamp with more clamping force. No leaks now.
I'm still pissed that I waited so long to get a OE Honda HFP rear lip for my FG2 that they went out of stock permanently. The fact that I paid 18.9K for mine tells you how long I've had it lol. Still in love with it though. Hybrid CAI and Flashpro are the best first mods for sure.

Love the mugen gen 8s ^^
And they come factory k20 :D
Love this series, would love to see you guys do a quick and easy build on a common Toyota. The XV40 Camry would be a great car for this series in my opinion. You can do a lot with it.
1. that hanger removal too is something I didn't know I needed
2. I don't know why I never thought of attaching the hanger BEFORE bolting everything up. I always worked with the small wiggle room after everything was put together...
One thing that most youtubers omit to mention is the shipping cost and (for us Canadian) duty fees, sometimes it cost more than the item itself.
They’re probably shipping their stuff to the US, and picking it up there 9/10 free shipping. I saw Dave there once lol right before the pandemic picking up goodies for their 2jz e46 m3.
True sometimes it doesn’t make sense , but if your willing to drive to the border you may save some coin
Love this. From Cape Town South Africa. Honda has a cult following over here.
2:25 amazing what you can find in an engine bay of a Honda
3:55 Yep, I've been there. I had a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V with a cold air intake I hydro locked which bent a valve and eventually threw a rod. Definitely learned from that.
This is awesome because I actually wanted one of these before I got my 335i. Still love how these look
@@VAR1UM WOAAHHH someone got smoked by a civic 😂💀
All fun and games until those POS turbos go
@@VAR1UM come out to Cayuga , I’m sure there’s an audience for that kinda stuff
Race Cayuga roadcourse, where overweight RWD barges tend to get dunked on by children's cars.
@@VAR1UM if you're talking about handling, nobody is arguing RWD isn't the most challenging, but putting any car on the edge and keeping it there takes skill.
Might just be nostalgia talking but the 99-00 Si was my fave ❤️ love this series. Thx eBay motors.
Yes!! I had an 07 Si and absolutely loved it. Coilovers, full bolt on, hondata flash pro and it felt and revved like a 4 door sport bike. So much fun. I want another one one day, although now I love eating them up on the highway in my Speed3 😂 love this series guys, super underrated channel!
I doubt your speed3 would eat up one if it was K24 swapped though lol
@@mitchellhamilton1753 just a bolt on K24 NA? Not sure, but I’ve played with an 8th gen turbo Si totally stock and it was basically even. I’m tuned with full intake so I doubt an NA K24 would keep up on the highway but idk 🤷🏻♂️
@@jakejackson8395 Shit well I'm not sure then, my buddy had a speed 3 and it was kinda slow, I'm not sure if an intake with a tune would really be a game changer
I mean, it would've had about as much power as a sport bike, lol
@@mitchellhamilton1753 if you look it up, it surprisingly is a big change for them. The factory has boost limited in 1st and 2nd gear and it falls off hard up top. With a tune alone it really wakes it up, and the intake makes a big difference especially the turbo inlet pipe
You guys deserve more subs this channel is 🔥 I am biased being living in Ottawa though lol
One thing I used to do when I was younger was put small pieces of vinyl over the holes and it worked pretty good and you didnt have anything sticking up.
I really like my yonaka I bought for my 01 crv. You guys are the reason I bought it and my aem intake for it as well
Yes!!!! My exact same car. Same color too. Love my Si. Hybrid racing intake 👍
Yonaka exhaust meh, doesnt sound bad but Full Race is the way to go with 8th gen Si's. Mugen spoiler is a no go for me👎. Hate how that looks. Front lip 👍. Btw is MOOGEN not Mewgen. Cant wait for next episode.
Hell yeah! Honda’s are back, so I’m back to watching!
Is that your integra? Ive been trying to buy one for a while now
@@headchef5680 of course, I’ve had my Integra GSR for six years and loved driving it every time!
I love your welding skirt!!
Love those orange hfp sedan Si, best color for the Si in my opinion.
For the rear plugs you can go to vinyl shop and have them cut out some circles. Than just paint those and stick them on. Water tight and super flush. Car is looking good so far.
Nice work guys! Those 8th gens are really great cars!
Looking good so far and now onto part 2. I am excited to see what you all come up with. (:
One of the first actual "cold" air intake I've seen someone put on a civic
Now if your interested in really doing this to an 8th gen si, use this guide instead:
1) Detail + Ceramic coat
2) Fluids + Brakes
3) invidia q300 catback (Highest quality off the shelf exhaust, sounds excellent and never rasps)
4) Stock wheels + 200TW tires (Save money, invest in what matters + stock wheels look great and are enkei)
5) Stock airbox w/ K&N drop in filter (Hybrid CAI gives MINOR gains at the risk of getting hydro-locked. Stock airbox is excellent on the 8th gen si and s2000. For N/A setup the stock airbox is more than adequate.
solid OEM+ car and still retains the stock look collectors will love in 10 years or so
Those are some good starting modds, I’d suggest some headers next
Redline orange has always been my favorite. Rare color though
That and habanero red on fa5 are hard as hell to comeby
I own the same car! 2009 same color fully stock, I NEVER see this color anywhere this is sick!
Ya’ll messed up that man’s trunk just to install some cheap rear spoiler.
😂
I like thw OEM spoiler better. That Mugen looks like crap.
@@zurielvalladares5947 mugen one def looks cheap, especially when its not OEM and no supporting side mugen skirts and visors...
@@gallardo20000 I agree… it looks tacky
Got to agree with this one guys
Ok, it's pretty cool that you are modding the car of a friend, I respect that
I love these quick budget builds
As a 9th gen Civic owner, this made my Saturday. Excited to see the rest of this surprise build. I’m also interested to see how those Enkei’s look on it too!
I had this exact color in my 09 FA5
Desperately looking for a clean csx type-s or civic si for a 2 weeks now and now you guys are posting a civic build AHHHHHHHHhh
Very soon I’m be selling my other Si - 06 Si coupe with 81700 kms, bone stock never modified. Let me know if you’re interested
@@makeitshine108 looking for a sedan. Never thought CSX typess are so rare 😣
That immaculate paint and body , I'm jelly
Now this video is out my car is gonna be worth another 2k thank you speed academy
Same now we can sell for more than what we got it for
@@angelrodriguez7647 fr
Love to see 8th gen content. Nobody seems to really do it
Crazy the amount of rust you guys in Canada can get away with, in my country this would be considered a rust bucket and would take a shitload of rust repair before it gets a pass and is allowed back on the road
Yeah during the winters the bottoms of the cars get really messed up because of the anti ice salt they have to put on the road everywhere
If surface rust is all that would disqualify a car, then you'd have to buy a new one every three years in a place that gets snow.
@@Hype679 we don't really get much snow here and we don't salt the roads
@@Blarg217 We salt ours. That's a "GG no re" at this point. You better have a daily.
Thank god were not living in your country
Just love these quick builds. Nice change of pace. Great job guys keep up the great work. Thx
I love these type of builds! On this channel! Keep up with these videos!
Thats odd. Hybrid stays to reuse them so we’ll see.
@@speedacademy the hoses might be different considering 6th gen and 8th gen civics.
got my 06 si coupe for $3900 us earlier this year. Clean title and completely stock. One owner before me
I'm still pissed that I waited so long to get a OE Honda HFP rear lip for my FG2 that they went out of stock permanently. The fact that I paid 18.9K for mine tells you how long I've had it lol. Still in love with it though. Hybrid CAI and Flashpro are the best first mods for sure.
Finally another HONDA video! I have a 2014 honda civic si sedan and I love it! The 8th gen is a easy car but I like the 9th gen more because there's not alot of videos for the 9th gen. Hope to see a 9th gen video
So true on the 8th gen SI. One of the best looking for sure
its nice to wake up after a long week of work, and find this type of awesome content! love ur vids!
I had a Yonaka Exhaust System the res broke and rattled bad after a few months. I replaced the res and cat with Vibrant Performance, it's all been on there for about 7 years now. still sounds great daily.
Dang thats a clean orange civic 🥵
Love using the Fire Wrench! always works
Your channel is so great guys I hope it picks up way more traction. I don't know what I can do to help
Love seeing you guys giving back to those that help you. Great job guys!
Always wanted an 8th gen SI sedan! Love it
That exhaust sounds nice its also just what I need, it looks great also.....great job 👍 😎
I feel most the time the car prices are pulling my leg. No where have I seen any Si for $3500. Been a few episodes like this that make me scratch my head.
The fd2 civics are popular in asia, good platform with alot of really aestheticlly pleasing aftermarket parts
This is the best generation of civic
