Even as a Bi girl who loves a gay ship now and then, this was blatant pandering that serves no purpose to the story. I enjoyed RWBY because the girls were empowering and it wasn't all about relationships and more about saving the day, now I dunno- the story is losing its sparkle and the characters are so one-dimensional now. Sure, have LGBT friendly characters, but don't make that all what the character is. LGBT doesn't equal substance.

The significance of those two seasons (The moments between Blake and Sun) was for Blake’s story. I know y’all remember when Blake blushed because of Sun being cute (It’s been BKSN shippers’ biggest pieces of “evidence” for years lmao) I’m pretty sure that this set up the foundation of BKSN’s story. Arryn said she thinks the girls have just realized their feelings for each other; This is the 6TH VOLUME. Blake obviously didn’t know she liked anyone during V3 (Or, if she did she didn’t think it was something special) and it shows. During their time on Menagerie together Blake realized that Sun was an important person to her, but not in a romantic way, just as Sun realized that his relationship with her wouldn’t progress and decided to become an important part of her life in another way. By supporting her and helping her back to her team. Don’t forget, Sun parallels Ilia and Yang parallels Adam. Sun built up Blake’s confidence and was an essential foundation for her to grow from. This was all tied up when Neptune said he felt like he(Sun) was just letting her(Blake) get away and Sun replied with “It was never about that”. Sun was just happy being a part of her life (RIP Pyrrha) even if he and Blake wouldn’t be endgame. But maybe I’m just taking blatant symbolism too seriously,,,,,It’s anyone’s guess 🐝🐝

In Volume 4 he still shows an obvious attraction towards Blake, and it seemed more like Sun knew he and Blake had bigger fish to fry in Volume 5 because they had to save Haven from falling, so naturally his love for Blake was put on the side. Also, he helped her back to her team once, and that was at the end. And Ruby parallels Adam, and Adam parallels Raven, Emerald's and Pyrrha's eyes and hair color foil each other. Do these details matter? No. So why should these? Even so, what parallels between Ilia and Sun are you reffering to? I always see people make this claim but almost nobody bother explaining what they are. And the two times someone *DID* attempt to do so, the first got the *TWO* "parallels" she could find wrong, and the other was basically "they're both fanaus and they both had important discussions on a roof", which is false because 1.) Arkos had a talk on the roof, same as Adam and Blake, 2.) them being fanaus is irrelevant to their attraction to Blake, and 3.) that also makes both pairings valid because they were fanaus just like Adam was, and if Adam paralleling Yang in Semblances is enough proof, then surely Sun and Ilia paralleling Adam in species is also proof, right? I just don't see how that whole "Sun/Ilia" parallels argument holds any water when there's only *one* parallel between them which isn't even relevant to their attraction towards Blake. So...yeah... Or, y'know, Sun meant "I didn't follow Blake to get into her pants" and not "I never liked Blake". Especially when he still displayed obvious attraction towards Blake in Volume 4. Also, Blake's reaction towards Sun leaving was met with sadness. And, y'know, she kissed him when she's never shown any physical affection towards any of her friends before. Kind of like how she hugged Ilia goodbye a couple minutes prior. Wait, Blake hugs Ilia goodbye as if she'll never see her again, but she gives Sun kiss hoping to see him again? Y’know it just occurred to me, when was the last time Ruby and Blake interacted with each other? Like really interact with each one-on-one, yknow like friends? When was the last time team RWBY and only team RWBY, interacted with each other in a non-life threatening situation? Wha happen to the team dynamic? I guess shipping killed those too.
They have too many main characters; Oscar, Qrow, Ospin, Jean, Ren, and Nora should be side characters but they follow team RWBY into every episode and scene leading to little to no time for interaction amongst team RWBY. Also the writing sucks.

ScarletNightfall I’ll be honest, I never noticed. I liked the show for the action... the lack of plot only started to grate on me after the middle of V5. While I understand why some people would be miffed by lack of diversity(excluding the shipping/plot destroying), I never find myself bothered. Perhaps this is an extension of my general apathy to everything, or maybe it’s a lack of understanding. I don’t know. I’ve never card what people are or their orientations or beliefs. I just like or dislike people. I mean, color or orientation. I feel they’re just things, that are there... woohoo. Also, note how geographically it would make sense for Vacuons to be dark skinned, yet they’re pale as all hell...

V1, I was hoping for Bumblebee because reasons. V2, they started showing Blake having an interest in Sun. V4 and 5, Blake and Sun are much closer than before and such. V6 (according to the cast and fans), “yeah, Blake’s been in love with Yang for years now and you’re just now seeing it.” Something tells me I’m going to need a drink for V7
Watch the writers make Bumblebee canon, but to keep the shippers invested they create a bunch of drama between Blake and Yang, and unintentionally make the relationship look unhealthy in doing so.
I'm downright hoping they would do this, just so the shippers can realize how incompatible they are and that their entire endeavor to make a fake relationship come true is meaningless and entirely unnecessary. The fandom doesn't deserve to have their ships come true. I appreciate their enthusiasm, but they are being over religious on Yang and Blake, treating them as if their getting together would make their lives more meaningful. Shipping as a practice should have just been harmless fun, yet they treat it seriously to the point where its downright heretical to consider Blake pairing up with Sun. I hope the show suffers some sort of breakdown, with the writers getting flak for everything they've done.

When I first found your channel I was a bit put off by you and your opinions, but now I completely see where you come from. You’re critiquing the plot and the writing, and honestly you’re one of the only ones I can trust in giving me an unbiased answer. I agree, the writers are just going with whatever is making more impact for them and it makes me mad. When you create a story, you should be focusing on the details and overarching plot points. CRWBY seems to be like “well this is what the fans wanted last volume so let’s try and do it” which is...ok to an extent. They saw we had a problem with Ruby’s character and tried to fix it, and they are (slowly but surely). But now they’re just giving us their own version of a RWBY fan fic. I love the show and will continue to watch, but I’m also waiting for the day all of this toxicity stops, which won’t be for a while.
Honestly, I have no problem with fan service. I actually appreciate it when creators give a little something to their consumers. However, I do have a problem when something ruins the product. This chapter was it. They demolished Adam's character while simultaneously making Blake look like a hypocritical asshole. Man, this is tough.
How to improve the Black & Yang vs Adam scene: Previous episode, Adam doesn't fail to hurt Yang with his charged up attack. It doesn't kill her, but it wounds her pretty badly. This episode, Adam doesn't knock Blake off the edge, it's mostly him against her while Yang is injured. Whole fight has a tone of hopelessness to it as Adam builds back that intimidating feeling he had back in Volume 3. Blake manages to retrieve the lower half of her weapon and breaks the last bit of Adam's aura with the gun part of it, but Adam just doesn't even care as he shoots her, breaks her aura, kicks her to the ground, and then impales her wrist with his sword so she can't use her weapon even if she wanted to. He then pulls out his sheath gun again and presses it against Blake's forehead, ready to kill her. Yang realizes what's about to happen and, despite her condition, forces herself back up and fires a shot into Adam's arm right as he fires at Blake, resulting in him just barely shooting the side of Blake's face rather than killing her with a shot through the forehead. Right as Adam turns around, Yang already has the upper half of Blake's sword in her hand, delivering a stab to Adam's chest while he's caught off-guard and lacks his sword. Blake is traumatized by this entire situation. Her hand is badly wounded and she was almost killed by a shot to the head, Adam is a corpse laying right in front of her, Yang's wounds are worsening, and to make matters worse, Yang, due to her state of mind at that moment, is still stabbing Adam. Blake has to beg Yang to stop before Yang finally consciously realizes Adam is already dead. Yang herself is in complete shock from having actually killed someone. Being the least wounded of the two, Blake helps Yang get back to the others and hesitantly takes Adam's sword and sheath just in case she needs to protect herself along the way. What do we get from this that we don't get from M&K's version? 1: Adam is actually a threat. 2: They don't get out of the fight without either of them suffering any injuries. 3: Yang kills Adam by herself, and does so because she felt it was necessary, drawing somewhat of a parallel between her and Raven. This later helps Yang understand Raven a little bit more. C H A R A C T E R D E V E L O P M E N T . 4: Blake is actually traumatized and not just sad because she was worried about Yang thinking Blake would just leave. 5: Blake makes Adam's weapon be the replacement for Gambol Shroud, allowing her having gotten it in her own sheath earlier be seen as foreshadowing rather than just a cool thing that happened. 6: Guns are actually relevant. 7: NO SHIP BAIT.
@@awesome8831 Not under normal circumstances, but it's established that Adam has a bit of bloodlust. He seems to lose at least a bit of concentration on other things going on as he goes for the kill. Besides that, in this scenario, Yang was knocked down and seemed to be unconscious, so it makes sense that he would believe he could just focus on enjoying his kill, which is very in-character for him to do. Of course, I would much rather just not kill the guy at all. That is, if he had been written differently up to that point and hadn't been made into a whiny psycho ex. This was more of an example of "how this scene could have been salvaged without drastically changing the outcome, the rest of the plot, or anything that happened prior to this" rather than "How I would write RWBY". If this *were* "How I would write RWBY" Weiss would be the one Adam messed with, not Yang, and this whole fight with Blake and Yang wouldn't have happened like this because Adam wouldn't have cared enough about Blake to waste time going after her for no reason, nor would he have done the big dumb in V5 and completely failed a pointless terrorist attack due to a head bop and a redemption arc that both only happened because the white fang is utterly incompetent and doesn't know how to properly execute a kidnapping and thinks all-out assault counts is a viable way to attempt an assassination you want to frame someone else for.

You have perfectly explained why I started to hate bumblebee. 1. People wont shut up about it. I mean any panel you go to there will be too many questions about shipping. It has literally destroyed the plot just to make people happy and that's dumb. 2. It takes away from the dynamic of the 4 girls because for example: when have Blake and Ruby had a heart to heart. 3. So Blake and Sun had an entire volume together and Blake and Yang had three episodes and now it’s cannon look I don’t really ship characters but c’mon at least have a small bit of build up a bit when Yang confronts Blake about being a literal and metaphorical pussy in any situation and they have some small figure of reconciliation instead of constantly holding hands and shanking a guy that’s basically all they had together
If I weren't busy, I'd go back and compare Blake and Sun to Blake and Yang together on screen talking about meaningful emotional things and helping each other out. Ya' know, things that people would normally bond and grow closer over? I can already guarantee that Sun most likely has the edge by a wide margin. Especially considering that the whole, "abandoned me after I got my arm cut off trying to help you", was . . . really never addressed between the two characters.

Monty passed early yes, but I think you forget that he wrote 10 volumes of RWBY before he left. The writers are just trying to put together the pieces he left them. Monty has been hinting BMBLB from the start so what are you blaming the current writers for?
@@angelochoa593 The current writers aren't sticking to monty's original plan, the entire adam arc was changed because of their decisions, not monty's, as for 10 volumes being written, he had vague ideas and a general plan, i'm not saying they should be able to perfectly replicate his vision, but they are pandering to fans and shipbaiting, and then used monty's own animation at the end of V6 in a way in which monty didn't intend, though at least we got to see it, even if it did stand out against the more lackluster animations we've been seeing
Bumblebee is like a drug. People will smoke it, snort it, or chew it. But like any drug it kills you slowly. Black Sun could fix this damn mess because its writing has been far superior. Great points Vexed. This chapter was a hard one to swallow.
Yang and Blake would be toxic to each other if they paired up. Yang's abandonment and anger issues and Blake's running problem and victim complex is a recipe for disaster, and I know they'll either sweep it under the rug or not handle an issue like that properly. Sun was a much healthier partner for Blake. Blake smiles and laughs a lot more around him too. With Yang, there's always a heavy atmosphere hovering over them.

Is that before you even showed me the clips, Before you even put together this amalgamation of evidence, I already knew, that the voice actors personal bias, were bleeding into the already awful writing. Already knew. An unbelievably rancid degree of "I am the character"; the power dynamic in that studio is so apparent. I am not surprised it took you as long as it did to upload this. Man don't get me started on the evasion of dark skin. I remember when Monty was teasing Sage (and Scarlet) back when team SSSN only had voicing and moments for Sun and Neptune. He never gave away what Sage's weapon and style was _supposed_ to be, but it was implied to be something interesting (there is 100% a post from him on their personal wiki regarding this) Unfortunately certain events took place, and by the time Sage and Neptune were revealed in Volume 3, whoever was in-charge of the decision to include them for that subpar gimmicky man vs woman battle - *they just palmed him off with a big sword.* As if Yatsuhashi didn't already fill such criteria.. I heavily doubt Monty would've settled for "Big black? Big sword!". We've never seen these characters again. And we never will. Same goes for best boy Fox and anyone from CFVY. You will never see Fox style any harder than what CFVY's reveal showcased. This is one of the more minor instances, where I started to notice things going to pot, but that was a long, long time ago. The signs were always there.

@@SwitchbackCh The boy Sage's arm, to anyone with any amount of idea behind character design/development, implied he could've been anything from a _Dust Alchemist_ to something we'd never seen before. With a name like Sage too.. There was def' potential there that we'll never see. Understandably, early concepts or not - Monty kept alot of things up top, so no one would know what to do with certain elements of unused characters and set pieces. Scarlett is equally tragic. But at the very least, had _some_ feasible screen time. Sage got washed in concept, and in play.

what pisses me off about BMBLB isn't that it's a lesbian relationship. My issue is that it is being shoved in your face AFTER they spent all of volume 4 and 5 building up Black Sun so that was a total waste of time, yet again. By involving them in a relationship with one another it is causing major impacts to the team dynamic. Also, the way they handled the OTHER lesbian couple, how it was treated as NORMAL and not something to draw attention to, THAT is the right way to do it.
I like Yang but dislike Bumblebee. I think Bumblebee drags her down as a character. I wanted her to beat Adam because of the milestone it'd set for her, in terms of power and ability and character, compared to last time they met. I kind of got that I guess? The actual fight was cool and well animated and it showed Yang is stronger than at Beacon, but Yang as a character barely got to show herself at all. It was basically all about Blake with Yang as her accessory/the one actually fighting the fight. I mean Yang vs Adam was probably the most talked about rematch IN THE SERIES, but when it finally happens Yang herself barely gets to say anything, hell outside of a few comments Adam made you'd think they never met before. What the heck is that! That's what I don't like about Bumblebee, because their interactions seem to forfeit Yang's agency as a character outside of what she does for Blake. I feel Yang is better when interacting with people like Weiss or Raven. Volume 5 had its issues absolutely but I actually really enjoyed most scenes that involved either one of all of those three (the Yang/Weiss talk about Blake was weak though), because Yang as a character actually got to flex. And you're right about Yang and Ruby's relationship not being showcased much in favor of it. Reminder that, according to the manga (which is apparently canon according to RT), Yang unlocked her Semblance when a Beowulf attacked Ruby when they were kids. Her love for her sister is so strong, even as a scared little girl herself she literally went super saiyan just to save her! That's the kind of stuff that made me like Yang in the first place, but I haven't gotten many moments like that since. God, revealing the gift Ruby bought Yang at the train station better be the cutest, most diabetes-inducing sisterly love scene ever or I will be upset.
Yang used to be so fun, playful and sassy, full of energy and fire. She got gutted and because incredibly dull after her PTSD arc, and we didn't even get the proper payoff from that arc in Volume 4 to justify the serious, brooding, boring Yang we have now.
@@SwitchbackCh Thing is we still see flashes of that from her... when she's not interacting with Blake. Things like getting excited about the gift Ruby bought her, or joking about ransoming Weiss to lighten up Weiss's mood, or even back in Volume 5 all the smug sarcasm that was flying from both sides when Yang talked to Raven at her camp, or arm wrestling Nora and pranking her by detaching her arm. Or even in Volume 4, that playful grin she had when Tai talked to her about leaving in the shed. That Yang's definitely still there, but whenever Blake comes around it seems to get completely put on the damper. It comes back to what I said about how I don't like Bumblebee because of how they always treat Yang as a character in regards to it. It almost feels like they're grooming her into just being Blake's partner whenever she's around and that's part of what I don't like about it.
@@jjilatt123 Correct. Yang gets totally deflated whenever Blake's involved due to all the baggage between them. There were playful moments in Volume 2 between them like the wink and the laser pointer scene at least, but I doubt it'll happen the same way now.
I would have been fine with either Whiterose or Freezerburn, but Bumblebee does ruin Yang's character. Yang resents her mother for abandoning her loved ones with no intention of ever returning. Yet she supposedly falls in love with Blake, the character that's done that over four times in her entire life. If the writers had confirmed an attraction prior to volume 3, but Blake and Yang mutually decided they were better off as friends, it would have actually made sense and saved Yang's character. I don't have a problem with Yang forgiving Blake in the same way, you can forgive your ex who cheated on you, but having them together after being emotionally destroyed due to her abandonment issues is just awful. Now I don't have any respect for Yang, hell Blake had no intention with returning in volume 5 even after deciding she was done running. She only ran into Yang after pure chance

I just wanna know what the point of Sun was? Like they gave him and Blake all these moments and then they discarded him. now Blake and Yang are in love with each other? She also seemed to forget Blake existed, because she threw his sword to the area where she knew aura-less Blake was trying to climb up and then allowed him to run over there and stick his arm down there. She only did something once he went for the sword piece. She really should have known that was a danger and acted to stop him sooner, because she was the last one to touch the sword piece (when they did the reverse bumblebee) and must have dropped it there herself.

Yup. There's like 10 times the amount of faunus as there is dark-skinned people. Flint Cole and Arslan are the only two I can think of rn. I’ve been saying that Yang killing Adam as a result of fear and anger motivating her to kill him so she can’t feel afraid of him anymore is more effective than both because Blake doesn’t have much reason plot wise to still be afraid of him, and Yang had a storyline hinted of potentially becoming like Adam. Having Yang kill the man she’s afraid of, only to risk becoming him is a great storyline that was already hinted at. Having Blake not kill Adam furthers her character development of trying to do everything Adam won’t do by refusing to kill him and continuing to try to show him mercy he doesn’t deserve. Now, this is just spiraling the characters arcs out of whack.
Look I hope Blake doesn't go out with Yang. I would love to see her with Sun. Sun went through 2 seasons of Blake's bullshit and he still wanted to help her that was honestly true love. That's what made those two seasons worth looking at in my opinion. This bias needs to end. Also, I want to see Rwby and Yang if they split up. Their family for crying out loud.

I came with the thought that Adam and the White Fang should have been the first arc of RWBY. There was so much potential established in both Adam and Sienna's characters, the White Fang as a whole, in Menagerie, and the racism sub-plot.
Adam and whitefang could've been endgame material. in an ideal world, adam would've been either one of the last boss before Salem or be killed early but becoming a martyr used by sienna khan for the white fang to be more vicious, showing that the violence will always beget violence and thing doesn't end just because you double penetrate it with a broken sword.

I wish the writers can read and listen all of this stuff. They obviously listened to the shipping community. Sadly, the reactions to this volumes ending probably wont be acknowledged in season 7 as I am sure that they are well into production on it right now. Probably too late to fix or tweak things without major work. So I am not very enthusiastic about the fall premiere.

But no, their being “diverse” by killing a dark character every season. Amber, Sienna, Vernal, and Ozma(twice). All on screen and brutally for the most part.
SSSN was one of the earliest teams that Monty designed. You can already tell apart Monty's type of diversity - an intrinsic part of their interesting character designs that are cool but not intrusive - and Rooster Teeth's brand of diversity.
Clearly Miles and Kerry’s plan is to wear down anyone who thinks, and realises how flawed the show is, with a war of attrition so that they stop watching and then they can claim they have this show that is diverse and every loves because they’ll be surrounded by shippers and yes men

It’s not even RWBY anymore, and at this point I would just call it team RW BY. Yang doesn’t even interact with her own sister when her entire character plot was supposed to be finding her mother and caring for her sister. When was the last time we’ve seen Weiss talk to Blake? How about when we’ve seen Ruby talk to Blake? I really hope CRWBY reflects on something from this season because I don’t even know if I can continue watching this show and seeing what it is slowly becoming.

What I really hate the most about yellow jacket, is that its pulling team RWBY apart, which is suppose to be the main focus about the show, the actual team. There's no team work, no family feel between these characters. And to put the cherry on top, the two characters that make up this team, Ruby, the suppose leader, and Blake, the suppose ex white fang member who had to survive to live, hardly talk to each other! They only talked four times throughout the series and two of those conversations was just a one liner. There is a high probability that Qrow will be gone for good, so much for my team STRQ flashback. The only thing to look forward to at this point is Neo and hopefully, Summer Rose....
Rooster Teeth, and by extension, RWBY, (and probably Gen:LOCK) is a prime example of "the insane running the asylum", and it's a wonder they haven't flatlined by now.
Diversity in the cast and characters is fine, so long as it's built up and not thrown in at the last second. If a character's introduced and we spend a season or two with them with no hints of their sexuality, and then suddenly they come out as gay, that's forced in my eyes. Blake and Yang, I don't buy this couple because of this.

A prime example of this would be Tracer from Overwatch, Blizzard gave no hint to her being bisexual in her short or with in-game dialogue, so when it was revealed it felt very pandering.

My main issue (especially as a gay man myself) is that they are making Yang and Blake into lgbt characters rather then them just characters who happen to be. Saf/Terra were perfect examples of what is good to do. Cause she was Jaune’s sister who just happened to be with a women. Also when if ever are we going to get a gay male in this story with some significance to the plot? Cause I’m all for lgbt rep but it seems like they only do it for females

Adam should ve fought all of team RWBY at the same time. it would ve been easy and good character development for all of them. Adams face reveal is especially wasted on Blake and Yang, but would have worked way better for Weiss and Ruby.

I would definitely love it if RWBY ended as some tragedy. So far, we just see it as some comedy, a traditional good vs evil thing where good will eventually triumph. Not that there's anything wrong with such a story. In fact, such a story would be great, if only they did not bog it down with so many dull writing moments
After some more thinking, I think I should elaborate on what I had said. It could be cool if RWBY became a tragedy, where the characters simply failed to achieve their goals. Like what has been mentioned, Yang could realize that she became just like her mother: a cold blooded killer who fell short of actual courage and murdered on her cowardly whims. Killing to get rid of a problem, because it was just too difficult to use words, would make her no different from how Raven took the Spring Maiden powers Still, the show fails to convince that life is indeed precious. If good were to succeed in a good vs evil type of scenario, then we should be convinced of such a statement. After all, it carried the message that the God of Light was fundamentally worth following or worshiping, given how silver eyes were using his power and how they worked by believing in “life is precious” It would be interesting to see that good simply cannot prevail if we cannot be convinced that life is precious. It could then be the case that the God of Darkness was correct. After all the team’s difficulties and ordeals, they could just realize that life was not worth saving and adopt a nihilistic outlook on life. This would definitely make the show more cynical, but the show has been trying to be edgy now, so why not?

Yang changed from season 4 onwards and she became much more selfish. Blake was given a harem. They did change the story writing for the shape of FAN SHIPPING. So they could sell merchandise. That's not my RWBY I fell in love with anymore.
Reveal that Roman had deep trauma and show that he and Neo had a painful past, then kill him right after. Reveal that Adam had a painful past in which he was literally branded, then kill him soon after. Why the hell does crwby need to kill the best villains as soon as they start to get any characterization?! I mean the WF's leader was literally branded by the SDC logo and they didn't think of exploring that, or even having Weiss learn of the thing (and for anyone who says that yang or blake will tell her in vol 7 they that is just wishful thinking)
After Adam was killed, I looked at viewpoints from both RWBY fans and critics, and this is what I had to say. To put it short: RWBY is not for everyone, and it may not always deliver what people demand. I took great interest in Adam and the Faunus race war because as a student of socioeconomics I wanted to see if the show could offer some nuance on racial struggles and justice. But it seems giving me that was never what Rooster Teeth had planned. Rather than worldbuilding around the Faunus and examining the conflict, the White Fang was meant to be nothing more than part of Blake´s backstory. Meanwhile, Adam, rather than being a symbol of racial extremism and disproportionate retribution, was also meant to be a device in her story, which turned out to be abuse and manipulation. It´s not what I wanted and not a theme a viewer like me can appreciate, but domestic abuse is a heavy topic, and one I can imagine many would approve discussing. Overall, if you came to RWBY expecting interesting worldbuilding, deep universal themes, and cool antagonists, you´ve come to the wrong place. RWBY is a protagonist-driven shoujou style saga, revolving primarily around personal feelings and internal relationships between heroines (hence, shipping,) rather than external themes and devices. The villains, with a few exceptions like emerald, are not meant to be nuanced, relatable, or anything more than obstacles for the heroines to overcome. Even the fights, flashy as they may be, are actually quite shallow in comparison to the tactics, techniques, and counters of traditional shounen anime such as naruto, dragon ball, and fairy tail, which is because once again they are only meant to be plot devices to advance the real meat of the series, which is feelings and relationships. None of which are much of a draw to viewers like me, which is why I no longer will be watching the series. But I do find Vexed Viewer´s critiques delightful, so I hope he´ll keep putting them out.

Considering the fight in season 6, its clear Adam is more then capable to keep up with Blakes speed. So why did he not give chase to Blake, who is carrying a unconscious Yang while being wounded. He chose not to.

In the words of katara " lets give him the, not as big of a jerk as ya could have been award." Killing Adam had nothing to do with oh he's defenseless we shoud leave him alive. Adam was still a threat and charged at Blake. Yang sees him charging to get the knife before Blake. If Adam gets it hes gonna kill Blake. Adam knows this. Blake knows this. Yang knows this. Yang charges in knowing if she doesnt take him out now he's most likely going to kill Blake. And in those circumstance she decides she has to take him out before he takes her out. The fact that people are siding with Adam makes no sense because its very obvious he would have stabbed Blake right after picking up the blade. He already tried to stab her before yang showed up. His whole mission goal during this scene is hurt/kill blake.
I have no issue with this ship but the issue I have is, I feel like it was handled poorly. It felt rushed in a way and I can't quite lay my finger on why it feels that way to me. Also good point on the 'Diversity' in the show not including dark skinned people. EDIT: Yeah, I remember why it feels rushed now. Blake had an entire volume with Sun where you can tell he obviously feels something for her, while Yang still harbors ill feelings towards Blake. Yang literally went from giving Blake the partial cold shoulder to what we got in C12 in the same time frame it took Sun to go from friends to "may have feelings". The girl practically said Blake was dead to her and now I'm expected to believe that they are dating? Nah, sorry. Ilia would have been more believable than Yang. If they had left it till the next volume and fleshed it out across the entirety of it, it could have been so much better; Blake kills Adam by herself and Yang witnesses this and then they spend V7 with Yang helping her through it and them getting close again. This would clear the bad blood between them and leave it open for them to get together.
After watching this video, I realised what I oversaw in the V6 (and prollly V5). It was Bumblebee lmao. Like, I love shipping, romance and all, even from V1 I was looking out for ships and after seeing Blake and Sun travel together, Sun being introduced to Blake's parents, calling each other "My Hero", fighting together etc and even have Blake kiss Sun on the cheek in the end, I thought this was cannon! I totally oversaw Blake going after Yang's butt (I am sorry, I don't know how ro say it), like, when Blake helped Yang with a baggage in V6 (or V5??), I thought Blake still felt guilty about Yang losing her arm. When the two of them held hands with each other, I thought it was just, to show that they are strong together or that they developed a stronger bond? Also when Yang reached out for Blake's hand in the airship, I thought it was to support her or reassure her... Like all the arc of Blake x Sun seems... Useless now? I feel disappointed from the series. If they were planning this from the veeeeeeery start, at least they could just jump over the episodes of Blake x Sun or something. The Bumblebee ship looks very forced and is just to satisfy thirsty fandom... I don't have anything against lesbians nor gays, but fanservice destroyed this story... I don't even know what I should feel if Bumblebee will be a thing, but in my opinion, RT should focus on the relationship of the teams now instead of shipping- Thank you Vex, for your opinion and great video!

So interestingly I think I have an idea of RWBY's biggest problem and the reason some folks I've watched videos of the series note its "empty-ness." I think it's because while M+K understand narrative tools and how to use them, they don't fully understand how to explore a theme. When the equality plot is going around, instead of exploring the themes of futility of revenge and how using terrorism and violence as an ideological tool only continues the cycle of vengeance and hatred, or perhaps considering the need for self-defense, pragmatism and charisma to get results, Blake just goes all give peace a chance because hey peaceful protest is going to work when it was established before that it doesn't. None of the other characters intrude on her ideological bent because it's "Blake's thing" so there's no nuance thematically with the final result, and none of the other characters have any sort of opinion or input on Blake's ideological beliefs. Blake goes on about how violent protest is bad but the show never explores any alternatives beyond peaceful protest. So when Adam came around in V6, you know what would've been amazing? Blake not even drawing her weapon, and still taking him down and incapacitating him. Not drawing her blade to kill him, but not letting him just kill her either. Then, because he's driven by his pathetic selfishness and hatred, she's able to easily get into his head and eventually defeat him handily. It would validate her own beliefs and show that her path to equality without bloodshed is better than Adam's path to superiority through violence, and that Adam is so pathetic that he's not worth feeling anything other than pity for; he's not worth her blade. By murdering him solely for the purpose of removing him from the plot, Blake now has undermined her own beliefs. (But that's ok because Adam isn't an ideological opponent to her, he's just a blank obstacle placed here to help her get over her cowardice.) For Emphasis here: Adam being killed was considered (from her and Yang's perspective) a necessity. This is how villains get a start of darkness. What if another "Adam" appears? What happens if more and more people end up becoming like Adam and endorsing violent reprisal against humans? What does she do with them? She can't convert them, since Ilya was merely an exception who could just as easily have been motivated by her own lingering feelings than Blake's ideological superiority. And ignoring that, what if they wouldn't be swayed? Does she kill them too if they refuse to stop using violence? Does she defeat them ideologically? How? What about humans who can't let go of their prejudices? What about those who might conspire against her movement in secret, like (potentially) Jacques? See, there's always going to be opponents to change, allies to the status quo and to perpetuating oppression. If you don't believe that violence is the answer, what do you do when you are forced to confront those willing to meet your protests with violence? I guess this is kind of part of that whole "They don't care about diversity" thing. I mean, they can't even handle the intricacies of interracial conflicts in a world where physical differences should be trival in the face of potential extinction. By not exploring this stuff, it demonstrates the writers are continuing to endorse their one, singular theme: RWBY is always right. The team will always be the bearers of the Cassandra's Truth, the ones doing "the right thing." If a series has nothing interesting to convey, then it should at least be fun, and V3 demonstrated they didn't want to be "fun," they wanted to be "epic." So, how's that going for them?

Feel free to add in that they won't explore the fact that based on Blake and Yang's character traits, that their relationship should logically by all accounts be unhealthy due to their mutual psychological and situational issues, because if they can't even have a one off character like pilot boy look bad and be gay, there is no way they're going to actually introduce anything beyond superficial conflict in the Blake x Yang relationship and risk either of them looking bad while being gay.
I'm dropping RWBY. I should have dropped it way back in Volume 4. I think RWBY has devolved into 'appeasing fans' instead of actually aiming to deliver a show with good writing. I have to say it started way back when Monty was there. Robot combat girl fandom: Penny. Bunny combat girl: Velvet. They've always been showing fantasy characters that don't really have any place in the story. In fact this was pointed out in Season 3 by the writers themselves so they're a bit self-aware. James: I can explain why I have a robot girl masquerading as a real girl! *Oz cuts James off* Oz: You have an army, use it. And it was never ever mentioned again why James had a robot girl. Then we got Ilia, faunus lesbian girl that likes Blake. Man, we have 4 people obsessing with the character with commitment issues who just runs away from everyone. I guess the weird furry-cat girl fetish is strong in the series. As you've said, I know this new dynamic will just ruin the team. I can foresee a subplot where either Weiss or Ruby will start a rift because Yang and Blake are too focused on each other to work as a team. I thought these in fights within the team ended in season 1 when Ruby and Weiss had that talk. Then we had it again when we discovered Blake was a faunus, then immediately got solved. Then it happened again when Blake left the team, then got solved...looks like they're setting up for another conflict. And we have whole seasons dedicated to travelling from 1 city to another. You can bet Vol 8 will be another 'walking volume' from Atlas to wherever.
Even as a Bi girl who loves a gay ship now and then, this was blatant pandering that serves no purpose to the story. I enjoyed RWBY because the girls were empowering and it wasn't all about relationships and more about saving the day, now I dunno- the story is losing its sparkle and the characters are so one-dimensional now. Sure, have LGBT friendly characters, but don't make that all what the character is. LGBT doesn't equal substance.
And race diversity is SUCH. A. PROBLEM. WOW.

The significance of those two seasons (The moments between Blake and Sun) was for Blake’s story. I know y’all remember when Blake blushed because of Sun being cute (It’s been BKSN shippers’ biggest pieces of “evidence” for years lmao) I’m pretty sure that this set up the foundation of BKSN’s story. Arryn said she thinks the girls have just realized their feelings for each other; This is the 6TH VOLUME. Blake obviously didn’t know she liked anyone during V3 (Or, if she did she didn’t think it was something special) and it shows. During their time on Menagerie together Blake realized that Sun was an important person to her, but not in a romantic way, just as Sun realized that his relationship with her wouldn’t progress and decided to become an important part of her life in another way. By supporting her and helping her back to her team. Don’t forget, Sun parallels Ilia and Yang parallels Adam. Sun built up Blake’s confidence and was an essential foundation for her to grow from. This was all tied up when Neptune said he felt like he(Sun) was just letting her(Blake) get away and Sun replied with “It was never about that”. Sun was just happy being a part of her life (RIP Pyrrha) even if he and Blake wouldn’t be endgame. But maybe I’m just taking blatant symbolism too seriously,,,,,It’s anyone’s guess 🐝🐝

I'm not. You don't establish that two characters like each other and then drop it for no good reason.
Arryn's opinion means nothing as she isn't writing the show. Even if it did this the same woman who said that Blake and Yang's relationship this volume was "the natural progession". I don't see how completely dropping all the drama and anger than Yang SHOULD have towards Blake for leaving her in V3 to get to this is "natural". This means she's an unreliable source. And as this very video showed, she views Blake as a self insert. That makes her word even more unreliable as she's literally projecting. But if it did, then that should raise red flags to anyone who thinks for two seconds. Blake and Yang *just* realized their feelings for each other around the time they killed a guy *AND* the unresolved tensions between Blake leaving Yang, the girl with abandoment issues. That sounds *incredibly* fucked up to me. I'd be dissapointed at that if I was a Bumbleby shipper.

Considering you yourself debunked that argument earlier in your own comment, I won't address why that's false.
Absolutely nothing implies that Blake never held romantic feelings for Sun in Volumes four and five. If anything Blake's "my hero" like shows the exact opposite. And if Sun realized that her relationship with Blake wouldn't progress, when did *that* happen? In Volume 4 he still shows an obvious attraction towards Blake, and it seemed more like Sun knew he and Blake had bigger fish to fry in Volume 5 because they had to save Haven from falling, so naturally his love for Blake was put on the side. Also, he helped her back to her team once, and that was at the end.
And Ruby parallels Adam, and Adam parallels Raven, Emerald's and Pyrrha's eyes and hair color foil each other. Do these details matter? No. So why should these? Even so, what parallels between Ilia and Sun are you reffering to? I always see people make this claim but almost nobody bother explaining what they are. And the two times someone *DID* attempt to do so, the first got the *TWO* "parallels" she could find wrong, and the other was basically "they're both fanaus and they both had important discussions on a roof", which is false because 1.) Arkos had a talk on the roof, same as Adam and Blake, 2.) them being fanaus is irrelevant to their attraction to Blake, and 3.) that also makes both pairings valid because they were fanaus just like Adam was, and if Adam paralleling Yang in Semblances is enough proof, then surely Sun and Ilia paralleling Adam in species is also proof, right?

ScarletNightfall I’ll be honest, I never noticed. I liked the show for the action... the lack of plot only started to grate on me after the middle of V5. While I understand why some people would be miffed by lack of diversity(excluding the shipping/plot destroying), I never find myself bothered. Perhaps this is an extension of my general apathy to everything, or maybe it’s a lack of understanding. I don’t know. I’ve never card what people are or their orientations or beliefs. I just like or dislike people.
I mean, color or orientation. I feel they’re just things, that are there... woohoo.

Watch the writers make Bumblebee canon, but to keep the shippers invested they create a bunch of drama between Blake and Yang, and unintentionally make the relationship look unhealthy in doing so.
I'm downright hoping they would do this, just so the shippers can realize how incompatible they are and that their entire endeavor to make a fake relationship come true is meaningless and entirely unnecessary.
The fandom doesn't deserve to have their ships come true. I appreciate their enthusiasm, but they are being over religious on Yang and Blake, treating them as if their getting together would make their lives more meaningful.
Shipping as a practice should have just been harmless fun, yet they treat it seriously to the point where its downright heretical to consider Blake pairing up with Sun.

When I first found your channel I was a bit put off by you and your opinions, but now I completely see where you come from. You’re critiquing the plot and the writing, and honestly you’re one of the only ones I can trust in giving me an unbiased answer.
I agree, the writers are just going with whatever is making more impact for them and it makes me mad. When you create a story, you should be focusing on the details and overarching plot points. CRWBY seems to be like “well this is what the fans wanted last volume so let’s try and do it” which is...ok to an extent. They saw we had a problem with Ruby’s character and tried to fix it, and they are (slowly but surely). But now they’re just giving us their own version of a RWBY fan fic. I love the show and will continue to watch, but I’m also waiting for the day all of this toxicity stops, which won’t be for a while.

Previous episode, Adam doesn't fail to hurt Yang with his charged up attack. It doesn't kill her, but it wounds her pretty badly.
This episode, Adam doesn't knock Blake off the edge, it's mostly him against her while Yang is injured. Whole fight has a tone of hopelessness to it as Adam builds back that intimidating feeling he had back in Volume 3.
Blake manages to retrieve the lower half of her weapon and breaks the last bit of Adam's aura with the gun part of it, but Adam just doesn't even care as he shoots her, breaks her aura, kicks her to the ground, and then impales her wrist with his sword so she can't use her weapon even if she wanted to. He then pulls out his sheath gun again and presses it against Blake's forehead, ready to kill her.
Yang realizes what's about to happen and, despite her condition, forces herself back up and fires a shot into Adam's arm right as he fires at Blake, resulting in him just barely shooting the side of Blake's face rather than killing her with a shot through the forehead. Right as Adam turns around, Yang already has the upper half of Blake's sword in her hand, delivering a stab to Adam's chest while he's caught off-guard and lacks his sword.
Blake is traumatized by this entire situation. Her hand is badly wounded and she was almost killed by a shot to the head, Adam is a corpse laying right in front of her, Yang's wounds are worsening, and to make matters worse, Yang, due to her state of mind at that moment, is still stabbing Adam.
Blake has to beg Yang to stop before Yang finally consciously realizes Adam is already dead. Yang herself is in complete shock from having actually killed someone. Being the least wounded of the two, Blake helps Yang get back to the others and hesitantly takes Adam's sword and sheath just in case she needs to protect herself along the way.
What do we get from this that we don't get from M&K's version?
1: Adam is actually a threat.
2: They don't get out of the fight without either of them suffering any injuries.
3: Yang kills Adam by herself, and does so because she felt it was necessary, drawing somewhat of a parallel between her and Raven. This later helps Yang understand Raven a little bit more. C H A R A C T E R D E V E L O P M E N T .
4: Blake is actually traumatized and not just sad because she was worried about Yang thinking Blake would just leave.
5: Blake makes Adam's weapon be the replacement for Gambol Shroud, allowing her having gotten it in her own sheath earlier be seen as foreshadowing rather than just a cool thing that happened.
6: Guns are actually relevant.
7: NO SHIP BAIT.

Not under normal circumstances, but it's established that Adam has a bit of bloodlust. He seems to lose at least a bit of concentration on other things going on as he goes for the kill. Besides that, in this scenario, Yang was knocked down and seemed to be unconscious, so it makes sense that he would believe he could just focus on enjoying his kill, which is very in-character for him to do.
Of course, I would much rather just not kill the guy at all. That is, if he had been written differently up to that point and hadn't been made into a whiny psycho ex. This was more of an example of "how this scene could have been salvaged without drastically changing the outcome, the rest of the plot, or anything that happened prior to this" rather than "How I would write RWBY".
If this *were* "How I would write RWBY" Weiss would be the one Adam messed with, not Yang, and this whole fight with Blake and Yang wouldn't have happened like this because Adam wouldn't have cared enough about Blake to waste time going after her for no reason, nor would he have done the big dumb in V5 and completely failed a pointless terrorist attack due to a head bop and a redemption arc that both only happened because the white fang is utterly incompetent and doesn't know how to properly execute a kidnapping and thinks all-out assault counts is a viable way to attempt an assassination you want to frame someone else for.

You have perfectly explained why I started to hate bumblebee. 1. People wont shut up about it. I mean any panel you go to there will be too many questions about shipping. It has literally destroyed the plot just to make people happy and that's dumb. 2. It takes away from the dynamic of the 4 girls because for example: when have Blake and Ruby had a heart to heart. 3. It destroys other characters just to make it happen. I know I sound like a broken record but before Vol 3 Adam and the White Fang had too much potential to just discard like they did. Another thing that was disappointing was the intro made it seem like RUBY and WEISS were going to be the focus of the show for once and get more than a few lines. But it ended up to be another season catering to bumblebee and friends.....again

Bumblebee is like a drug. People will smoke it, snort it, or chew it. But like any drug it kills you slowly. Black Sun could fix this damn mess because its writing has been far superior. Great points Vexed. This chapter was a hard one to swallow.
Yang and Blake would be toxic to each other if they paired up. Yang's abandonment and anger issues and Blake's running problem and victim complex is a recipe for disaster, and I know they'll either sweep it under the rug or not handle an issue like that properly. Sun was a much healthier partner for Blake. Blake smiles and laughs a lot more around him too. With Yang, there's always a heavy atmosphere hovering over them.

Yang could not forgive Blake causing the team tension, Blake could run away again causing more tension, Blake could have lost an arm/leg or hurt herself to protect Yang proving she won't run, but instead we got cringy "we protect each other" dialogue and a hand hold two years and 2 volumes worth of dilemma was just ended out of no where

I remember when Monty was teasing Sage (and Scarlet) back when team SSSN only had voicing and moments for Sun and Neptune.
He never gave away what Sage's weapon and style was _supposed_ to be, but it was implied to be something interesting (there is 100% a post from him on their personal wiki regarding this)
Unfortunately certain events took place, and by the time Sage and Neptune were revealed in Volume 3, whoever was in-charge of the decision to include them for that subpar gimmicky man vs woman battle - *they just palmed him off with a big sword.* As if Yatsuhashi didn't already fill such criteria.. I heavily doubt Monty would've settled for "Big black? Big sword!".
We've never seen these characters again. And we never will. Same goes for best boy Fox and anyone from CFVY.
You will never see Fox style any harder than what CFVY's reveal showcased.

SSSN was one of the earliest teams ever designed and RT wants me to believe Monty never mentioned or thought about their weapons once? With a name like Sage too.. There was def' potential there that we'll never see. Understandably, early concepts or not - Monty kept alot of things up top, so no one would know what to do with certain elements of unused characters and set pieces.
Scarlett is equally tragic. But at the very least, had _some_ feasible screen time.

what pisses me off about BMBLB isn't that it's a lesbian relationship. My issue is that it is being shoved in your face AFTER they spent all of volume 4 and 5 building up Black Sun so that was a total waste of time, yet again. By involving them in a relationship with one another it is causing major impacts to the team dynamic. Also, the way they handled the OTHER lesbian couple, how it was treated as NORMAL and not something to draw attention to, THAT is the right way to do it.
It's almost like they're trying to distract us from the fact that BS was basically (might as well be) retconned
I like Yang but dislike Bumblebee. I think Bumblebee drags her down as a character.
I wanted her to beat Adam because of the milestone it'd set for her, in terms of power and ability and character, compared to last time they met. I kind of got that I guess? The actual fight was cool and well animated and it showed Yang is stronger than at Beacon, but Yang as a character barely got to show herself at all. It was basically all about Blake with Yang as her accessory/the one actually fighting the fight.
I mean Yang vs Adam was probably the most talked about rematch IN THE SERIES, but when it finally happens Yang herself barely gets to say anything, hell outside of a few comments Adam made you'd think they never met before. What the heck is that!
That's what I don't like about Bumblebee, because their interactions seem to forfeit Yang's agency as a character outside of what she does for Blake. I feel Yang is better when interacting with people like Weiss or Raven. Volume 5 had its issues absolutely but I actually really enjoyed most scenes that involved either one of all of those three (the Yang/Weiss talk about Blake was weak though), because Yang as a character actually got to flex.
And you're right about Yang and Ruby's relationship not being showcased much in favor of it. Reminder that, according to the manga (which is apparently canon according to RT), Yang unlocked her Semblance when a Beowulf attacked Ruby when they were kids. Her love for her sister is so strong, even as a scared little girl herself she literally went super saiyan just to save her! That's the kind of stuff that made me like Yang in the first place, but I haven't gotten many moments like that since. God, revealing the gift Ruby bought Yang at the train station better be the cutest, most diabetes-inducing sisterly love scene ever or I will be upset.
Yang used to be so fun, playful and sassy, full of energy and fire. She got gutted and because incredibly dull after her PTSD arc, and we didn't even get the proper payoff from that arc in Volume 4 to justify the serious, brooding, boring Yang we have now.

Things like getting excited about the gift Ruby bought her, or joking about ransoming Weiss to lighten up Weiss's mood, or even back in Volume 5 all the smug sarcasm that was flying from both sides when Yang talked to Raven at her camp, or arm wrestling Nora and pranking her by detaching her arm. Or even in Volume 4, that playful grin she had when Tai talked to her about leaving in the shed.
That Yang's definitely still there, but whenever Blake comes around it seems to get completely put on the damper. It comes back to what I said about how I don't like Bumblebee because of how they always treat Yang as a character in regards to it. It almost feels like they're grooming her into just being Blake's partner whenever she's around and that's part of what I don't like about it.
@@jjilatt123 Correct. Yang gets totally deflated whenever Blake's involved due to all the baggage between them. There were playful moments in Volume 2 between them like the wink and the laser pointer scene at least, but I doubt it'll happen the same way now.
I would have been fine with either Whiterose or Freezerburn, but Bumblebee does ruin Yang's character. Yang resents her mother for abandoning her loved ones with no intention of ever returning. Yet she supposedly falls in love with Blake, the character that's done that over four times in her entire life.
If the writers had confirmed an attraction prior to volume 3, but Blake and Yang mutually decided they were better off as friends, it would have actually made sense and saved Yang's character.
I don't have a problem with Yang forgiving Blake in the same way, you can forgive your ex who cheated on you, but having them together after being emotionally destroyed due to her abandonment issues is just awful. Now I don't have any respect for Yang, hell Blake had no intention with returning in volume 5 even after deciding she was done running. She only ran into Yang after pure chance

She also seemed to forget Blake existed, because she threw his sword to the area where she knew aura-less Blake was trying to climb up and then allowed him to run over there and stick his arm down there. She only did something once he went for the sword piece. She really should have known that was a danger and acted to stop him sooner, because she was the last one to touch the sword piece (when they did the reverse bumblebee) and must have dropped it there herself.

I’ve been saying that Yang killing Adam as a result of fear and anger motivating her to kill him so she can’t feel afraid of him anymore is more effective than both because Blake doesn’t have much reason plot wise to still be afraid of him, and Yang had a storyline hinted of potentially becoming like Adam. Having Yang kill the man she’s afraid of, only to risk becoming him is a great storyline that was already hinted at. Having Blake not kill Adam furthers her character development of trying to do everything Adam won’t do by refusing to kill him and continuing to try to show him mercy he doesn’t deserve. Now, this is just spiraling the characters arcs out of whack.
That sounds awesome but of course nothing that interesting happened.
Look I hope Blake doesn't go out with Yang. I would love to see her with Sun. Sun went through 2 seasons of Blake's bullshit and he still wanted to help her that was honestly true love. That's what made those two seasons worth looking at in my opinion. This bias needs to end. Also, I want to see Rwby and Yang if they split up. Their family for crying out loud.

I came with the thought that Adam and the White Fang should have been the first arc of RWBY. There was so much potential established in both Adam and Sienna's characters, the White Fang as a whole, in Menagerie, and the racism sub-plot.
Adam and whitefang could've been endgame material.
in an ideal world, adam would've been either one of the last boss before Salem or be killed early but becoming a martyr used by sienna khan for the white fang to be more vicious, showing that the violence will always beget violence and thing doesn't end just because you double penetrate it with a broken sword.

SSSN was one of the earliest teams that Monty designed. You can already tell apart Monty's type of diversity - an intrinsic part of their interesting character designs that are cool but not intrusive - and Rooster Teeth's brand of diversity.

Yang doesn’t even interact with her own sister when her entire character plot was supposed to be finding her mother and caring for her sister. When was the last time we’ve seen Weiss talk to Blake? How about when we’ve seen Ruby talk to Blake? I really hope CRWBY reflects on something from this season because I don’t even know if I can continue watching this show and seeing what it is slowly becoming.

What I really hate the most about yellow jacket, is that its pulling team RWBY apart, which is suppose to be the main focus about the show, the actual team. There's no team work, no family feel between these characters. And to put the cherry on top, the two characters that make up this team, Ruby, the suppose leader, and Blake, the suppose ex white fang member who had to survive to live, hardly talk to each other! They only talked four times throughout the series and two of those conversations was just a one liner.
There is a high probability that Qrow will be gone for good, so much for my team STRQ flashback.
The only thing to look forward to at this point is Neo and hopefully, Summer Rose....
Rooster Teeth, and by extension, RWBY, (and probably Gen:LOCK) is a prime example of "the insane running the asylum", and it's a wonder they haven't flatlined by now.

Diversity in the cast and characters is fine, so long as it's built up and not thrown in at the last second. If a character's introduced and we spend a season or two with them with no hints of their sexuality, and then suddenly they come out as gay, that's forced in my eyes. Blake and Yang, I don't buy this couple because of this.

A prime example of this would be Tracer from Overwatch, Blizzard gave no hint to her being bisexual in her short or with in-game dialogue, so when it was revealed it felt very pandering.

My main issue (especially as a gay man myself) is that they are making Yang and Blake into lgbt characters rather then them just characters who happen to be. Saf/Terra were perfect examples of what is good to do. Cause she was Jaune’s sister who just happened to be with a women. Also when if ever are we going to get a gay male in this story with some significance to the plot? Cause I’m all for lgbt rep but it seems like they only do it for females

Adam should ve fought all of team RWBY at the same time. it would ve been easy and good character development for all of them. Adams face reveal is especially wasted on Blake and Yang, but would have worked way better for Weiss and Ruby.

I would definitely love it if RWBY ended as some tragedy. So far, we just see it as some comedy, a traditional good vs evil thing where good will eventually triumph. Not that there's anything wrong with such a story. In fact, such a story would be great, if only they did not bog it down with so many dull writing moments

After some more thinking, I think I should elaborate on what I had said. It could be cool if RWBY became a tragedy, where the characters simply failed to achieve their goals. Like what has been mentioned, Yang could realize that she became just like her mother: a cold blooded killer who fell short of actual courage and murdered on her cowardly whims. Killing to get rid of a problem, because it was just too difficult to use words, would make her no different from how Raven took the Spring Maiden powers
Still, the show fails to convince that life is indeed precious. If good were to succeed in a good vs evil type of scenario, then we should be convinced of such a statement. After all, it carried the message that the God of Light was fundamentally worth following or worshiping, given how silver eyes were using his power and how they worked by believing in “life is precious”
It would be interesting to see that good simply cannot prevail if we cannot be convinced that life is precious. It could then be the case that the God of Darkness was correct. After all the team’s difficulties and ordeals, they could just realize that life was not worth saving and adopt a nihilistic outlook on life. This would definitely make the show more cynical, but the show has been trying to be edgy now, so why not?

Yang would you really lose your sister over a crush????. Yangs character, original character was that of an older sister who would protect their younger sibling. I loved that about her cuz it was something I rarely saw. Siblings caring for each in animations by rooster teeth and some western media. Yang changed from season 4 onwards and she became much more selfish. Blake was given a harem. They did change the story writing for the shape of FAN SHIPPING. So they could sell merchandise. That's not my RWBY I fell in love with anymore.

Reveal that Roman had deep trauma and show that he and Neo had a painful past, then kill him right after. Reveal that Adam had a painful past in which he was literally branded, then kill him soon after. Why the hell does crwby need to kill the best villains as soon as they start to get any characterization?!
I mean the WF's leader was literally branded by the SDC logo and they didn't think of exploring that, or even having Weiss learn of the thing (and for anyone who says that yang or blake will tell her in vol 7 they that is just wishful thinking)
After Adam was killed, I looked at viewpoints from both RWBY fans and critics, and this is what I had to say.
To put it short: RWBY is not for everyone, and it may not always deliver what people demand.
I took great interest in Adam and the Faunus race war because as a student of socioeconomics I wanted to see if the show could offer some nuance on racial struggles and justice. But it seems giving me that was never what Rooster Teeth had planned. Rather than worldbuilding around the Faunus and examining the conflict, the White Fang was meant to be nothing more than part of Blake´s backstory. Meanwhile, Adam, rather than being a symbol of racial extremism and disproportionate retribution, was also meant to be a device in her story, which turned out to be abuse and manipulation. It´s not what I wanted and not a theme a viewer like me can appreciate, but domestic abuse is a heavy topic, and one I can imagine many would approve discussing.
Overall, if you came to RWBY expecting interesting worldbuilding, deep universal themes, and cool antagonists, you´ve come to the wrong place. RWBY is a protagonist-driven shoujou style saga, revolving primarily around personal feelings and internal relationships between heroines (hence, shipping,) rather than external themes and devices. The villains, with a few exceptions like emerald, are not meant to be nuanced, relatable, or anything more than obstacles for the heroines to overcome. Even the fights, flashy as they may be, are actually quite shallow in comparison to the tactics, techniques, and counters of traditional shounen anime such as naruto, dragon ball, and fairy tail, which is because once again they are only meant to be plot devices to advance the real meat of the series, which is feelings and relationships.
None of which are much of a draw to viewers like me, which is why I no longer will be watching the series. But I do find Vexed Viewer´s critiques delightful, so I hope he´ll keep putting them out.

Yang is a murderer. I mean, lets be real here. Back when Adam cut Yang's arm off he could of EASILY severed her head etc (I know thats dark, but again being a realist here) but he didn't. Yes, I know that Yang is protected by plot armor (except for her arm apparently) but you can also see it as a perspective that Adam made the choice not to kill Yang. Whether he did it to show hes not a complete monster, or whether it was just to send a message/lesson to Blake, he did not kill her. Is it Self-defense? maybe, but is it truly self-defense when there is no hesitation to take Adams life, to take a faunus"s life? (yeah, I'm cheesy) No, it isn't. Its murder.

Considering the fight in season 6, its clear Adam is more then capable to keep up with Blakes speed. So why did he not give chase to Blake, who is carrying a unconscious Yang while being wounded. In the words of katara " lets give him the, not as big of a jerk as ya could have been award." Killing Adam had nothing to do with oh he's defenseless we shoud leave him alive. Adam was still a threat and charged at Blake. Yang sees him charging to get the knife before Blake. If Adam gets it hes gonna kill Blake. Adam knows this. Blake knows this. Yang knows this. Yang charges in knowing if she doesnt take him out now he's most likely going to kill Blake. And in those circumstance she decides she has to take him out before he takes her out.
The fact that people are siding with Adam makes no sense because its very obvious he would have stabbed Blake right after picking up the blade. He already tried to stab her before yang showed up. His whole mission goal during this scene is hurt/kill blake.
I have no issue with this ship but the issue I have is, I feel like it was handled poorly. It felt rushed in a way and I can't quite lay my finger on why it feels that way to me. Also good point on the 'Diversity' in the show not including dark skinned people.
EDIT: Yeah, I remember why it feels rushed now. Blake had an entire volume with Sun where you can tell he obviously feels something for her, while Yang still harbors ill feelings towards Blake. Yang literally went from giving Blake the partial cold shoulder to what we got in C12 in the same time frame it took Sun to go from friends to "may have feelings". The girl practically said Blake was dead to her and now I'm expected to believe that they are dating? Nah, sorry. Ilia would have been more believable than Yang. If they had left it till the next volume and fleshed it out across the entirety of it, it could have been so much better; Blake kills Adam by herself and Yang witnesses this and then they spend V7 with Yang helping her through it and them getting close again. This would clear the bad blood between them and leave it open for them to get together.
After watching this video, I realised what I oversaw in the V6 (and prollly V5). It was Bumblebee lmao.
Like, I love shipping, romance and all, even from V1 I was looking out for ships and after seeing Blake and Sun travel together, Sun being introduced to Blake's parents, calling each other "My Hero", fighting together etc and even have Blake kiss Sun on the cheek in the end, I thought this was cannon!
I totally oversaw Blake going after Yang's butt (I am sorry, I don't know how ro say it), like, when Blake helped Yang with a baggage in V6 (or V5??), I thought Blake still felt guilty about Yang losing her arm. When the two of them held hands with each other, I thought it was just, to show that they are strong together or that they developed a stronger bond? Also when Yang reached out for Blake's hand in the airship, I thought it was to support her or reassure her...
Like all the arc of Blake x Sun seems... Useless now? I feel disappointed from the series. If they were planning this from the veeeeeeery start, at least they could just jump over the episodes of Blake x Sun or something.
The Bumblebee ship looks very forced and is just to satisfy thirsty fandom... I don't have anything against lesbians nor gays, but fanservice destroyed this story...

So interestingly I think I have an idea of RWBY's biggest problem and the reason some folks I've watched videos of the series note its "empty-ness."
I think it's because while M+K understand narrative tools and how to use them, they don't fully understand how to explore a theme.
When the equality plot is going around, instead of exploring the themes of futility of revenge and how using terrorism and violence as an ideological tool only continues the cycle of vengeance and hatred, or perhaps considering the need for self-defense, pragmatism and charisma to get results, Blake just goes all give peace a chance because hey peaceful protest is going to work when it was established before that it doesn't. None of the other characters intrude on her ideological bent because it's "Blake's thing" so there's no nuance thematically with the final result, and none of the other characters have any sort of opinion or input on Blake's ideological beliefs.
Blake goes on about how violent protest is bad but the show never explores any alternatives beyond peaceful protest.
So when Adam came around in V6, you know what would've been amazing? Blake not even drawing her weapon, and still taking him down and incapacitating him. Not drawing her blade to kill him, but not letting him just kill her either. Then, because he's driven by his pathetic selfishness and hatred, she's able to easily get into his head and eventually defeat him handily. It would validate her own beliefs and show that her path to equality without bloodshed is better than Adam's path to superiority through violence, and that Adam is so pathetic that he's not worth feeling anything other than pity for; he's not worth her blade.
By murdering him solely for the purpose of removing him from the plot, Blake now has undermined her own beliefs.
(But that's ok because Adam isn't an ideological opponent to her, he's just a blank obstacle placed here to help her get over her cowardice.)
For Emphasis here: Adam being killed was considered (from her and Yang's perspective) a necessity. This is how villains get a start of darkness. What if another "Adam" appears? What happens if more and more people end up becoming like Adam and endorsing violent reprisal against humans? What does she do with them? She can't convert them, since Ilya was merely an exception who could just as easily have been motivated by her own lingering feelings than Blake's ideological superiority. And ignoring that, what if they wouldn't be swayed? Does she kill them too if they refuse to stop using violence? Does she defeat them ideologically? How? What about humans who can't let go of their prejudices? What about those who might conspire against her movement in secret, like (potentially) Jacques? See, there's always going to be opponents to change, allies to the status quo and to perpetuating oppression. If you don't believe that violence is the answer, what do you do when you are forced to confront those willing to meet your protests with violence?
I guess this is kind of part of that whole "They don't care about diversity" thing. I mean, they can't even handle the intricacies of interracial conflicts in a world where physical differences should be trival in the face of potential extinction.
By not exploring this stuff, it demonstrates the writers are continuing to endorse their one, singular theme: RWBY is always right. The team will always be the bearers of the Cassandra's Truth, the ones doing "the right thing." If a series has nothing interesting to convey, then it should at least be fun, and V3 demonstrated they didn't want to be "fun," they wanted to be "epic."

Feel free to add in that they won't explore the fact that based on Blake and Yang's character traits, that their relationship should logically by all accounts be unhealthy due to their mutual psychological and situational issues, because if they can't even have a one off character like pilot boy look bad and be gay, there is no way they're going to actually introduce anything beyond superficial conflict in the Blake x Yang relationship and risk either of them looking bad while being gay.

I'm dropping RWBY. I should have dropped it way back in Volume 4. I think RWBY has devolved into 'appeasing fans' instead of actually aiming to deliver a show with good writing. I have to say it started way back when Monty was there. Robot combat girl fandom: Penny. Bunny combat girl: Velvet. They've always been showing fantasy characters that don't really have any place in the story. In fact this was pointed out in Season 3 by the writers themselves so they're a bit self-aware.

And it was never ever mentioned again why James had a robot girl.
Then we got Ilia, faunus lesbian girl that likes Blake. Man, we have 4 people obsessing with the character with commitment issues who just runs away from everyone. I guess the weird furry-cat girl fetish is strong in the series.
As you've said, I know this new dynamic will just ruin the team. I can foresee a subplot where either Weiss or Ruby will start a rift because Yang and Blake are too focused on each other to work as a team. I thought these in fights within the team ended in season 1 when Ruby and Weiss had that talk. Then we had it again when we discovered Blake was a faunus, then immediately got solved. Then it happened again when Blake left the team, then got solved...looks like they're setting up for another conflict. And we have whole seasons dedicated to travelling from 1 city to another. You can bet Vol 8 will be another 'walking volume' from Atlas to wherever.
