Other differences (personal preference): M4 is much faster, especially once rolling. Steering is much more precise (not necessarily any more feel but tighter and more sensitive). Also, the adjustments to steering, suspension, throttle and drivetrain are more nuanced - the 435i will have 4 modes (Efficient through to Sport Plus) but it’s a fairly narrow band of adjustment - this makes it easy to understand and use day to day. No clue when the car will actually be ready but I'm not comitted to the purchase until I sign at the dealer so if something else comes along in the mean time, I may pass on the m340i but if I get it, it will be exactly how I want it and brand new... and to be totally honest, if I went all in on full M car, I would want to order new so I could get one of those exotic colors and a nicer interior other than black which is what most of the used ones have. Black interior is boring... especially on an M.
Ive been debating whether to pull the trigger on the M340i or the M3. @@robrub2410any update? I think the M340 is far superior car on the road. Yes, if you’re on a race track the M3 will kill it BUT in most real world situations, the M340 is better.
Nice job on this. I just sold my F80 and am looking for a M340i (I think) and then another fun car to go with it. The F80 was awesome, but never really felt special and can be a bit loud and rough on our crappy Chicagoland roads.
That's what I'd think normally. But after driving testing the m340i here in Aus at an overpriced $100k it was very nice and managed a 4s 0-100kph time. - So, the m3 version will be $50k+ more aint worth it. both over-expensive here with our luxury tax we have to pay to attempt to save a car industry we have not had here for years
I’ve been in both and I mutch prefer the m340i. Getting out of the m3 and into the m340i is a drastic difference and the m3 looks 20 years older than the m340i. In real life the m340i the performance is nearly the same but the m3 is better but the m340i is so much better.
Man I testdrove m340i today and I was blown away compared to 330. Suspension and steering wheel were way stiffer plus the handling way more sporty. I felt like in a racing car while reving hard even in comfort mode. Nothing to complain!!!!
Everyone talks about how the ZF 8sp shifts as fast as the DCT, which BMW seems to be getting away from, but there’s no denying the power that a toque converter sucks away before it gets to the tires. DCT is way more efficient and to me, axing it in favor of a standard automatic is a big step backwards.
Russell Brown actually it’s not. That ZF is magic. Get some sports car with that gearbox and see yourself how it performs. That’s crazy how fast and power-efficient that transmission is.
@@dwnshft of course Man! Everyone knows this new gen m3 will be amazing in every aspect but JUST look at that complet body work. This car is out for more then 5 years & it still looks advanced.
My e46 m3 “before” I turboed it had 333 hp...It’s a damn shame they don’t make all motor cars anymore. My s54 motor has a 6766 precision turbo which bring my motor at 800hp to the wheels. My car was the last of the str8 6’s that we’re all motor and I’ll never give this ride up!!!!
I'm not a normal human being and I want respect LOL!!! Love my F80. Good job on the review. I had an M340 as a loaner. It's nice but for that money I'd pick up a CP0 540i loaded
They're 2 different cars . Where the M340 excels is low end tq 0-60 in 3.8 -4.1 sec , awd , newer tech comfortable better gas milage sounds better , roomier , and the better choice if your hauling your family around. The M3 excels in looks, areo, top end speed , better race oriented suspension and brakes and track car . Depends on your driving characteristics and lifestyle if you ask me
Not true. The M340 is quicker than the m3 and the m4 0 to 60 times. 4.2 (by bmw meaning that it could be lower) and 4.4 m3 and m4 I've seen many people making those times.
Comparing a 2019 mid range phone to a 2018 Flagship. The differeces arent that big anymore. Yet, the flagship still has some small extra features the mid-range doesnt have. Most of the times the better processor ( better engine, more torque, hp etc in the older M3 ) Or the flaghsip phone has a better camera system and better software support. But the mid ranger has better battery life ( the 340i using less petrol and is more fuel-saving ) In other words. The M3 will always be better then a non M stock model. It has the better rims, tires, brakes, wheels, suspension system, launch control even if it has less hp and torque whatsoever etc etc etc. A drag race never declines wich car is better. On the circuit a M3 will destroy a non m model.
I'm stopping watching this now, at 1 minute 17 seconds, because I just can't stand the infuriating music. When it's on top of speech, really, I give up !
One thing to mention is that the engine in the m340i is the motor that is going in the new A91 supra so will be extremely tunable and make impressive numbers aftermarket and after talking to some BMW reps, with a large single turbo, the after market m340i will be faster than the aftermarket s58 m3. Also the new m3 will be much more expensive than what they used to cost...kinda the direction Bmw is going apparently...
Stefan Levine this will be kind of like the e90 gen where the 335 could EASILY be faster than the M3 with a flash tune. That v8 M3 is awesome but there is no torque so the turbo in the 335 puts the M to shame
Why not test the M340i RWD? I think the G20 is a noticeably stiffer and quieter chassis. Did you have the cooling package and the adjustable dampers on the M340ix, or were you on RFT?
These two cars are just for different markets. A fully loaded m340i is more expensive than a entry m3. So the person that buys m340i probably never want a m3.
Dj Sarandos I am saying fully loaded m340i, which is about 70k usd. BMW don’t sell f30 m3 any more, but you can check the c63 for a reference, which is about 65k usd.

Thanks man! I cleansed the channel earlier today and that video had to go I'm sorry. I'll be doing a new video on the M3 soon my friend. Thanks for watching!
I like the video but you should have had a second person helping and then filmed some races - from dead stops and from rolls and various speeds. a lot of people are curious as to how much faster the F80 M3 actually is. Given that you drove them both extensively back to back - which one is faster (I'm sure the F80) but BY HOW MUCH. 0-60 are they pretty even? what about on the freeway from a roll at 70 - 120? I think a lot of people would have liked that. but all in all - nice video and thanks for doing the comparo. I drove both these cars - about 30 days apart. The M340i is an awesome DD car, but not as raw as the F80 M3.
Solid video but as many said the music was distracting. Just use it for transitions and switch back to your voice when talking about the. Idk that's my 2 cents anyways.
Average Human no it’s all good, I appreciate the feedback always! Audio balancing issues have plagued me from the jump. Things are a little better now but still not perfect. As the channel grows I can invest in better equipment!
Get with the time and appreciate the car for what it is? There is no excuse for zero feedback in the wheel. Porsche does it right. It's not about "getting with the times" it's about demanding a superior product when they claim it's the ultimate driving machine
I agree it is direct, which helps a ton, but the lack of feedback is still a concern. More recent cars are getting better but they are still a long way off. Porsche was just an example by the way, money has nothing to do with it. Some of the top Ferrari cars have very numb steering, but the little inexpensive Mazda Miata is a dream to drive ;)
on the m340i, do you have the option to send all the power to the rear wheels? or any option in terms of power distribution? or can you also buy it with RWD?
Just purchased the M340i 2020 and it needs to be lowered . it also needs a stifer suspension and strut tower brace. The horse power is about 400 horses. The steering is vague and needs to be heavier.
Start buying bikes 😁 They are getting lighter and adding power all the time 🔥 as well as fairings. New litter bikes look smaller than 1990’s 600. I’m driving 640d but it looks like the 3 series is getting longer and will have the same weight soon 😂
BIG JDM One of my best friends died in car crash with less than 30mph. Sometimes cars take a lot more than 1 life. It’s kinda mind set of the certain person. Sometimes good and happy people go down without being reckless but I doubt it would had gone differently for them with a car. But good for you! I’m happy you taking care of yourself and others by not doing some that doesn’t suit you. There’s plenty of things I stay away for the same reasons but my life not gonna be the same without riding
Йордан Христов hey, in know way am i saying riding isn’t the ultimate dream for some. i respect it, i seen this girl in chicago 20 yrs old , in a huge bike club , good looking and all. coming back from downtown chicago at night riding the back of another guys bike on the 290. 6 bikes deep, the guy did something silly and hit the median and they both flew and landed on the ground in oncoming traffic, dead . the guy ended up getting ran over and the picture was graphic. from the chest up to the head , all knocked off. broke my heart, i’m sure it’s some great riders out there. i admire them and always make sure i’m not putting biker riders in danger when on the road. salute to you man.
Wow what’s next? Water is wet? Everyone does this! The entry level 911 is as fast as the old 911S! This was the benchmark until Porsche started making cars in this class! Adults remember when the M3 was both a sedan and a coupe!
You lost me when you said the traditional transmission can go toe-to-toe with the DCT. It can upshift almost as fast, but it's a sloth when downshifting. I'd take the manual anyway and enjoy my driving experience.
You said a ZF is as good as the DCT. You’re not wrong. But the DCT has emotion. The torque converter ZF doesn’t have that same emotion. It’s boring imho.
340i will go down as just another forgotten tech fest emotionless car while m3 will always be a legend. No comparison here just buy the m3 and call it a day.
99% of people that buy performance BMW cars never track them. The just drive like grandpas and do 1 or 2 pulls here and there to impress friends. No reason to kill your wallet and your body driving the harsh M3. Most people I know whoever bought an M car sold them within 1 year. That's how unlivable they are on the streets, especially city streets.
If you have more than 400hp then awd would benefit you, since the m340i has less than that the rear wheel drive would be the best option. Plus it would save you like 200lbs

X-Drive M340 is quick. 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. It's a beast. Who cares about this...."respect". It's all about the performance in the end.
Who does 0-60 in real life. 30-100 is a better indication and the M3 destroys the 340i there.
Ive been debating whether to pull the trigger on the M340i or the M3. I plan on driving the car all year aroune including the New York snowy winters so I just feel the M340i would hurt less when its got all that salt on it in the cold winters !!! But my word the M3 looks way cooler with the tail pipes!
What did you with? I’m from nyc also and i can’t decide between the two
@@styellz1548 I also cant decide. Was looking at an f80 and a 2021 Bmw m340i. Cannot make up my mind and need some advice
@@robrub2410any update? I think the M340 is far superior car on the road. Yes, if you’re on a race track the M3 will kill it BUT in most real world situations, the M340 is better.
Nyc also, took the f80. Winter nd all no regrets
Nice job on this. I just sold my F80 and am looking for a M340i (I think) and then another fun car to go with it. The F80 was awesome, but never really felt special and can be a bit loud and rough on our crappy Chicagoland roads.
I would take the M3 any day.
The last M3 is stylistically much nicer. The new one looks fat and the large grill spoils the sports look.
3900 lbs is crazy for a 3 series. Good thing it has the traction and the grunt
It's because of the 4wd system
I just stumbled across your channel and I absolutely love the content. This was a great comparison!
Awesome thanks for leaving the comment Dylan! Glad you like the content! More to come!
Literally the video I’ve been waiting for 👌🏻👌🏻
Glad you liked it!!
Not a 400lb difference if you get the RWD like I did 😁
Also I would’ve got that M3 if I wasn’t leasing.
Yep and the new G80's are about the same weight now as the M340i.
Great videos bro, you got yourself a new subscriber. 👍
Awesome thanks!
Man I testdrove m340i today and I was blown away compared to 330. Suspension and steering wheel were way stiffer plus the handling way more sporty. I felt like in a racing car while reving hard even in comfort mode. Nothing to complain!!!!
Pedro Brognara nice! It’s an amazing car
I testdrove m340i today and this “new” zf8 is even a beast compared to my old 328if30. It shifts amazingly fast!!!!
Pedro Brognara that’s not saying much. There’s nothing special about a base level 3 series.
I dont know you but for me the M3 dominats with the look
I think I agree
@@dwnshft of course Man! Everyone knows this new gen m3 will be amazing in every aspect but JUST look at that complet body work. This car is out for more then 5 years & it still looks advanced.
@@davidich3537 agreeeeee
Yeah, it does and I have an M340i.
🤣 thanks
You're videos are way underrated! I hope you take off soon!!!
Thanks 🙏
They're 2 different cars . Where the M340 excels is low end tq 0-60 in 3.8 -4.1 sec , awd , newer tech comfortable better gas milage sounds better , roomier , and the better choice if your hauling your family around. The M3 excels in looks, areo, top end speed , better race oriented suspension and brakes and track car . Depends on your driving characteristics and lifestyle if you ask me
Just bought the 2020 M340I X drive love this car …
I was really hoping you were going to do launch control on the M340i for a true comparison in how it pulls....
I did, just not on screen. It's quick but not as violent as the M
Not true. The M340 is quicker than the m3 and the m4 0 to 60 times. 4.2 (by bmw meaning that it could be lower) and 4.4 m3 and m4 I've seen many people making those times.
M340 is faster then the m4.. Look at car and driver and r and t.. They got it to 3.79 on the x drive. M4 is hitting 4.0
Artashes Michigan m4 hits in 3.7 thanks
Comparing a 2019 mid range phone to a 2018 Flagship.
The differeces arent that big anymore. Yet, the flagship still has some small extra features the mid-range doesnt have.
Most of the times the better processor ( better engine, more torque, hp etc in the older M3 )
Or the flaghsip phone has a better camera system and better software support.
But the mid ranger has better battery life ( the 340i using less petrol and is more fuel-saving )
In other words. The M3 will always be better then a non M stock model. It has the better rims, tires, brakes, wheels, suspension system, launch control even if it has less hp and torque whatsoever etc etc etc.
A drag race never declines wich car is better. On the circuit a M3 will destroy a non m model.
i dont think sooooo . This M340i is a beast
I'm stopping watching this now, at 1 minute 17 seconds, because I just can't stand the infuriating music. When it's on top of speech, really, I give up !
You are very good reviewer. I will make sure to share this channel to my friends
Thanks! Much appreciated 👍
The 340 looks like an SUV compared to the M3.
Which looks like an SUV compared to my E46 M3.
Hahaha You're not wrong! Bigger and heavier every year. Not the proper formula for good driving feel
And i like it
E46 M3 the Best bmw if u ask me
@@navistormrage5057 the best BMW if you ask anyone with a brain 😜
Maybe a track review would have been better to see the real difference in dynamics
Completely agree but logistically it was impossible for the sake of this video. Soon though
Why not test the M340i RWD? I think the G20 is a noticeably stiffer and quieter chassis. Did you have the cooling package and the adjustable dampers on the M340ix, or were you on RFT?
The awd helps it compose itself in the bends
These two cars are just for different markets. A fully loaded m340i is more expensive than a entry m3. So the person that buys m340i probably never want a m3.
Are you out of your mind? M3 entry still more expensive than m340i xdrive, don’t say things you don’t know.
@@Mrexotic110 it's about the same, give or take a thousand
Dj Sarandos I am saying fully loaded m340i, which is about 70k usd. BMW don’t sell f30 m3 any more, but you can check the c63 for a reference, which is about 65k usd.

Thanks man! I cleansed the channel earlier today and that video had to go I'm sorry. I'll be doing a new video on the M3 soon my friend. Thanks for watching!
@@dwnshft Awesome can't wait to see it!
Hello! Thanks for the video. In your opinion, what would be the better choice for Texas, the M340i S or Xdrive? No snow or ice, just rain. Thanks!
In all season tires you can do sdrive

Solid video but as many said the music was distracting. Just use it for transitions and switch back to your voice when talking about the. Idk that's my 2 cents anyways.

@@dwnshft just found your channel and super glad I did, very well done! Take what I said with a grain of salt just my own opinion brother!

Average Human much appreciated my friend! 🍻
Get with the time and appreciate the car for what it is? There is no excuse for zero feedback in the wheel. Porsche does it right. It's not about "getting with the times" it's about demanding a superior product when they claim it's the ultimate driving machine
Then you gotta pay Porsche money. BMW steering isn't what it was but it's direct
@@uspnightfire115 this is fair👍
on the m340i, do you have the option to send all the power to the rear wheels? or any option in terms of power distribution? or can you also buy it with RWD?
Vlad Inc. that’s gonna be a m only feature. M for marketing lol
Just purchased the M340i 2020 and it needs to be lowered . it also needs a stifer suspension and strut tower brace. The horse power is about 400 horses. The steering is vague and needs to be heavier.
Kevin Moore did you get the adaptive M supresión option? Thanks.
M340i sounds way better!
electrikoptik agreed
ZF transmission makes it sound better due to the shifts delays. BMW dual clutch whips through the gears thus not creating the rumble the ZF does.
Start buying bikes 😁 They are getting lighter and adding power all the time 🔥 as well as fairings. New litter bikes look smaller than 1990’s 600. I’m driving 640d but it looks like the 3 series is getting longer and will have the same weight soon 😂
bikes in america are risky. i dnt have the stomach for bikes. i’ve had 5 people over the last 2 years i know die riding bikes .
The upcoming m3 does have awd with a manual option on a RWD only setup
You lost me when you said the traditional transmission can go toe-to-toe with the DCT. It can upshift almost as fast, but it's a sloth when downshifting. I'd take the manual anyway and enjoy my driving experience.
Jay Lyons the new ZF is amazing I stand by that. However, if it were me I’d also have the manual. Especially in the M3
@@dwnshft the zf definitely no slouch especially if upgraded with xhp tune. Gotta be a reason the new G80 is using the zf and not a dct.

M340 can do 0-60 in 3.8. So yes it’s faster
paul The 387hp is astonishing
How can the M3 DCT be silky compared to the m340i with the 8 speed ZF. Please enlighten me.
But which one is the faster?? O:
You said a ZF is as good as the DCT. You’re not wrong. But the DCT has emotion. The torque converter ZF doesn’t have that same emotion. It’s boring imho.

If you have more than 400hp then awd would benefit you, since the m340i has less than that the rear wheel drive would be the best option. Plus it would save you like 200lbs
s2kfunkyarchitect this is very true. I always say over 500 go and RWD is just a marketing gimmick (depending on differential and tire selection)
@@dwnshft definitely gotta get some good tires and know how RWD cars behave or else you will end up wrecking your car, I drive an s2000 now and need to get a car with more room (sedan) in about 4 or 5 years from now.
