The M340i xDrive is the best car I’ve ever purchased. It’s so quick AND fuel efficient.
The m340i is known for being brutal off the line a rolling race shows the true difference between the m3 and m340i but the way the m340i bites down and puts its power down off the line is something else

I grew up in the backwoods of South Carolina and this is how we would race cars on the back roads. Horsepower or the engine size did not matter....if you lined up, you raced!!!!

Haha Sam,‘I have have that same M340 in RWD and the results aren’t that much different (for a RWD it puts down the power very well), have yet to lose to a 392 from red light to red light (and they do love to line up) 😂
I have a B58 with rear wheel and the 230lbs extra on the X drive makes a huge difference
It makes a difference but either way the fact it has a rough time with the 392 shows it might be driver or tires lol.
Also, Car and driver weighed the RWD 2020 m340i at 3840 lbs. It is not 200 lbs lighter than the AWD. The RWD m340i is only 60 - 80 lbs lighter than the AWD. The AWD weighs of the same 2020 was around 3920 - 3930 lbs depending on specs. AWD does not add that much weight. I have an IS350 F-Sport with AWD and the RWD is less than 100 lbs lighter. The G-series both AWD and RWD are heavier, but the difference is the same.
If you lose to a 392 in a M340i from a dig something would have to be wrong. Not acceptable
@@layne4376 They actually have the same times. The xDrive isn't active most of the time when there is no traction loss, and it remains a RWD car.
Hey Sam just to say of the bat I love your videos, I been waiting for this kind one with m340i vs m3 comp, turned out great, would love to see the old f30 340i stage 2 vs the stock m3 competition for comparison, because the f30 340i makes 460whp with stage 2 tune I think it will be great on roll races or a dig
Had the m340 been turned or had downpipes it would’ve walked both

It doesn't matter how much horsepower your car has, you can't beat an AWD car off the line.
That comes down to traction, I've seen RWD cars destroy AWD cars off the line too, it just comes down to how much power you can put down without losing traction. and even stock cars based on the engine placement will eat some awd cars for breakfast for example the corvette c8 does 2.8 0-60 stock and it's rwd. at the same time there are plenty of supras and BMWs that do great 0-60 off the line with a great set of tires/drag radials.
But if everything is equal and one car has AWD and the other is RWD, the AWD will launch better but the rwd will have the advantage on the rolls due to less drvetrain loss and likely lighter vehicle since it doesn't have a center/front diff etc.
Untrue. Unless you have slicks/drags set up then it is. Majority of cars that hold records are rwd on the strip.
@@SSH939 On a prepped surface, they will be great! Even on an unprepped surface they can be phenomenal based on the tires and launch tuning.
AWD is not always better than RWD.

that 392 did very well guys come on now, its way heavier then both bmws there, and its n/a not forced induction. it hung with sams m3 and that has a bimmer tune and lighter from a dig, on a roll it was neck and neck with the m340i.. all 3 are great just stating truth lol

He said during that extremely long unbearable intro that the tune on the M3 wasn't in this actual video, it was still stock at time of filming. And yeah the 392 did decent I thought.
The 340i is 100 hp less then 392 I don’t think 300 pounds should make that much difference.
I see it the other way friend , while it’s true it’s heavier than the m340 (300 lbs) it’s still got 100 more HP and 2 extra cilinders than the Germans so I feel it should’ve been even closer than that

I can tell you the outcome of this one. If it’s an x drive 40i from a dig there’s no competition. Roll race the Camaro does really well.

CallingBS on that tune. Increases power, fuel efficiency, and longevity? To increase two of those things would definitely severely reduce the third. Performance upgrades are about making compromises that the average driver wouldn’t want. Otherwise that tune would’ve happened from the factory, as it doesn’t cost anything for the manufacturer to tune their own engines.

I raced a hellcat in a 2020 rwd M340 with jb+ 4.5psi over stock. It was roll from around 60mph. The hellcat could not pull me till about 120mph, before that dead even
It will be much faster with a jb4 than that m3.

392s are overweight boats. My 22 M240 eats them.... there just super heavy and out of date, in the performance world now. Which is a shame because for the money pre-covid and before the car market now you could get a hold over for low $40s.

Why waste money buying an M3 when all an m340 needs is a tune and it will be just as fast as a stock M3.
It still ain’t an M though, And tune an m3 then see what happens. Not everything is straight line speed from a dig. M cars are in their own league compared to m lite, refined in every way and the driving experience reflects it

When I was considering a BMW (back when they still had V8 offerings in the M3) there is no way I would have settled for anything other than an M.
@@S8ER makes sense because back then the M3 had an entirely different engine from the other 3 series. But then there was nothing like a partial M e.g M340i. It's either it was an M series or not.
The M340i isn’t supposed to be a cheap version of the M3.
Theres no M lite just 2 models BMW made aimed at different target markets.

Just got my very first BMW ever, and chose the M340i RWD in Brooklyn Grey. I love it! Will be my new daily for a pretty longish commute, about 75 miles a day, and wanted comfort with an eco mode but also the punch it packs!
Eco mode does nothing on the highway, it's really only good for the city

my 2018 m3 comp launches way better from a dig in mdm mode i’ve gotten sub 4 0-60 times in the car, completely stock with no tune like yours
