Today I'm doing that most dangerous of things - meeting up with an old flame! In this video it's the 2010 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. A car that I never previously considered, but fell in love with once I drove - and sold for reasons that turned out not to be.

James I’ve driven your car when Dave had it up for sale…… I’ve then gone and bought a different GTS ……. Your car (now Dave’s) definitely has some kind of exhaust upgrade over OEM……. Might have been from factory or dealership…… and sports Italia has sorted that car perfectly - drives so well!

@@richardwilson57 No exhaust mods in the history, or mentioned by SportsItalia - but the GT S does have a different setup from standard. You also find a lot of cars with stuck valves which might explain why they don't all sound so good

I've owned a 2012 QP5 Sport GTS for almost 6 years now. Almost 76k miles on it. I drive it year-round in Chicago with snows on dedicated rims. I still love the car. I dropped some considerable coin on it last year on maintenance and did so with the expectation that I can keep driving it reliably for another 5 years. I'm a bit of a car nut, and am most fortunate to be able to buy what I want - old or new - so it's a conscious decision by me to continue ownership of this car. The sound is superb, as all know. It drives "smaller" than it is. The exterior design is "assertive" without being over wrought. It's comfortable. New cars are great, but I can't use all that they offer at legal speeds here in the Chicagoland area, nor would I want to deal with malfunctioning sensors, chips, screens, dynamic this and that, after the warranty expires. An FF/Lusso is an upgrade, but not yet ready to live in the Ferrari ecosystem.

In the exact same position with my granturismo. In the process of getting all the stuff sorted after 5 years. Nothing to leave me stranded just…annoyances. I look out there and can’t find anything to replace it with. The ff comes with its own issues including that front gearbox deciding if it’ll eat itself on that awesome roadtrip you had planned for months.

    • @griffins750
      @griffins750 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Honestly I’m not sure I’d consider an FF or a Lusso to be an upgrade not when you take price and everything else that comes with owning an older modern Ferrari into account… Plus then you have to live in the Ferrari ecosystem you brought up, and eash 😬 is all I have to say about that…

    Reasons to re-aquire the Masser:
    1) You don't own a cross plane v8, so its not in the same category as your Scud missle....
    2) It complements your existing italian car collection as your daily
    3) Though it might give you issues over time, you can create content for each and everyone of them. This is the right business decision.
    4) Its a known quantity, this derisk's so many unknowns from another car purchase. You have some other expensive projects that won't provide the same content opportunities (The Masser's issues would hopefully pay for themselves).
Btw, Keep up the good work 😊

I'm not even (at least not in real life) really a car person, although I always appreciate the subtlety of design both in the engineering, and the stlying of cars, and so watch many car videos, and I have to say that though often the "exhaust note" is referred to in a car video, when this one began, I heard the most beautiful engine sound I've ever heard anywhere or anytime. After years of TV and TH-cam, this sang to me like a Telecaster with a bridge humbucker into a cranked 18 Watt handwired vintage valve amp! I'm obviously a guitarist, and never really got that "exhaust thing", I mean I get it, it's like an old Plexi Marshall 100watt Super Lead is to guitarists what a Roland V8 is to petrol heads, but this sound is beyond a wine-taster's descriptive vocabulary. I'm amazed!

As a 2013 Lexus LS600h F Sport owner I've been lusting after something slightly lighter and louder to drive. My favorites to lust after are the Pininfarina Quattroporte Sport GTS and the v8 Lexus LC500 . I think the upkeep of the QP5 would cost the same in the end as getting a newer LC500. There is something indescribable about this era Italian design and charm though.

I know, i know, comparing it to a Maserati, Jaguar, Bentley or even a BMW is not very smart, but it's still a very cool car in it's own way. Perhaps exactly for this reason - it's not your typical performance saloon from premium luxyry manufacturer but rather a unicorn of sorts, something that shouldn't have existed from a sensible, safety oriented, family friendly brand.

I have been the lucky owner of a 2010 GranCabrio for 9 years and enjoy the same comfort and engine singing. With a big difference that is the soft top which makes it such a joyful car. You feel you are Fangio even if you wouldn’t be able to race in Le Mans, such a magnificent symphony! Now, if you want an alternative limousine with comparable performance and another summit of charm, go for my 2004 XJ8 Super V8. I enjoy both and feel they give the best of the Italian and British production. Now, if someone wants to buy my 1990 560SEC, it is presently for sale. It lacks the charm of the Maserati and the Jaguar but what a beautiful and efficient star of German manufacturers. As good as new after more Thant 3 decades. Thank you for your videos, I am a fan from the other side of the Chanel.😊

You clearly want to but the QP5 GTS again. You keep on throwing in alternative purchases but we buy QPs because they stand out from the rest. That is why the QP line is now 60 years old. Incidentally for those who love the QP a “Quattroparty” is being held at the Salon Privé Club Day on August 31st celebrating the model, it’s 60th anniversary and the six variants since the original launch.

I don't think there's another sedan that can give this one a run for the money... it's possible that, well, you've peaked with this. There just isn't another choice that is special, beautiful, fast, musical and relatively practical for 25K. It's the whole package, and that makes it rare as well. I don't care much for gadgets either, and if that isn't a perk, then there's no point looking at the Germans or the Japanese. I do agree that it's a problem when you have cars with overlapping characteristics, but at the same time, that doesn't take away from the experience. They're still good characteristics.

LOL James, you know darned well that the Maser engine sound is the best V8 in the business and nothing else comes even close in style. This generation Maser reliability is also not bad at all plus it’s a full proper four seater so is in no way doubling up on your Maranello two seat toys - all reasons why I’m still holding onto my GranTurismo Strad :)

Currently in my stable is a 996 Carrera, exomotive Exocet, e39 M5, Maserati Quattroporte S, SL55 AMG, Toyota Century V12 and a Taurus Sho (winter beater). Let me tell you I love a good manual sports car as much as the next guy but I absolutely love my Quattroporte. I would not sell it unless I could find a good spec QP GTS. My M5 has cost me a lot of money over the years so it’s not like you would be getting a more reliable car if you went the m5 route. The sound of that Maserati hooked me as soon as I heard it. They are an absolute bargain at the price they go for these days.

I own 2005 duoselect Quattroporte and 2012 Granturismo S Auto. I had a 2001 E39 M5 that was a brilliant car but less reliable than my both Maseratis. I drive the Quattroporte on manual sport setting only and still have the original clutch at 62,000 miles . I am hoping it will last to 80 - 90k miles. Once you learn how to drive the automated manual properly, It is a very engaging and brilliant car with lighter engine, faster - less weight, direct connection , shorter final drive, and the perfect 47 front/53 rear weight distribution.
It was a revelation reading your comment and your appreciation of the best 4 door Automotive Art ever 🙏

Absolutely rebuy it. I currently own a 2013 Quattroporte S and a 2010 GTS . Every car person or collector will always have at least one or two vehicles that maintain a permanent residence in their hearts and in their garage and this is that car. I have owned numerous Ferraris, Lotuses, Porsches and BMWs throughout my life and I can tell you that the GTS is the one that is going to remain with me. It currently has 122,000 miles on it and going strong. It has been regularly serviced throughout its life and that definitely helps. I have found that these cars are actually very reliable and most issues come from lack of maintenance by owners who are unfamiliar with the vehicles or just unable to deal with the costs. Also as a former repair shop owner and technician I can tell you that it is no more complex to work on these vehicles as it is on any other vehicle out there. Anyone that has any mechanical skills or know how will have no problem maintaining such a vehicle. I sold My Generation 6 2014 Quattroporte GTS to purchase the 2010. The difference in dynamics, the chassis, the build quality and the overall feel of the vehicle is unparalleled. You may not be able to find another one like this one which is cared for and properly maintained. At the price it is the bargain of all bargains for any car enthusiast, luxury or performance

Hi JayEmm, firts of all, I do like and enjoy ALL your video clips and reviews ! Also ( correct me if Im mistaken ) gues you have a thing for the Italian supercars / Ferrari's, Maserati, understand that. Thiis Maserati is nice car, appealing, but to me tbh no heart beat about it ( been offered a few Maserati's Quattroporte 2005-07 to buy ) but it's not a JAGGGGGGG. Follow your heart obviously, yet my honest suggestion is (and what I would do) - go for XJR ( 351 or that SUPER V8 Portofolio if the owner/seller is willking to sell it for the reasonable price, not ridicolous 28k+, as saw on Autotrader he is asking for it ). My best wishes only, keep up with good work n video clips

I had a wonderful experience riding in the back seat in one up to the City (SF). The flat plane V8 has a wonderful sound that's found in very few sedans. The nappa leather has a wonderful feel and aroma. There's Alcantara in the headliner. Which model years should be avoided due to the weak automatic transmission?

When I saw all those photos of rusted Qs I thought you were talking yourself back into an XJR, which might not be such a bad idea. I recently bought a 2006 XJ8 VDP LWB 4.2 out of Canada, 80,000 miles, riding on coil-overs, has new A-arms, at least in front, a very nice car, albeit there is no exhaust sound track, it is a quiet car. There is no rust nor corrosion in its aluminum chassis or body. Not being supercharged it isn't a rocket but it is sneaky quick, if you get an R you'll get more sound and plenty of power, up to 500 or more HP. I looked at some XJRs, some were very nice, but the XJ8 only cost me $14,000USD, and that was with a new headliner. Oh, and everything on it works, no weird Italian work stoppages
