The Maserati Quattroporte Was a Proven Aphrodisiac | Revelations with Jason Cammisa | Ep. 12

  • The Maserati Quattroporte V was developed while Ferrari owned the company, under the guidance of Enzo The Second, Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo.
It used a Ferrari-built V-8 whose sound was, thanks to a 2008 study, scientifically proven to increase sexual arousal.
This is just the beginning of its appeal - though the Quattroporte wasn't a home-run at first. Thanks to the Ferrari influence, it used a single-clutch automated manual transaxle called "DuoSelect."
Automated manuals were, mercifully, a short-lived fad in sports cars, and in heavy luxury sedans, they worked even less well. Drive a Quattroporte 12,000 miles per year and you're looking at $500 per month just in clutch wear.
Luckily, after FIAT took control of Maserati away from Ferrari, it reengineered a huge portion of the car to fit a conventional 6-speed automatic. And the Automatica then gave the fifth-generation Quattroporte a chance at being the best-driving full-size luxury sports sedan of all time.
Which it became. Especially in Sport GT-S trim.

Upon braking force is moved forward so a rear bias keep the center of rotation more towards the middle for cornering. My Lotus is 38/62. Given F1 cars can bias fore/aft the brakes they are in the 45/55 range to adjust as fuel loads and traction changes.

They are just absolutely amazing even though they do have their own issues. They are beautiful, they have an amazing engine and they are basically a Ferrari for the whole family. There is literally only one car that is on top of this one. I have still not come across a car apart from a Manual Lamborghini Murcielago that can beat this. The reason we chose theses particular model years was because they have the ZF transmission.

It's amazing, and actually it sounds better because you hear those manual shifts instead of the sloppy-sounding automatic ones. The clutch is a problem but not as bad as quoted, since that average lifespan includes tons of drivers who were treating it like automatic and burning through it. ZF is still the way to go if you want a practical car, plus some of the later models (like 09) have better / more reliable parts that I envy.

Having owned one of the later model GTS's, 2016, I can say they do have a very distinct sound that you will recognize any place. The only down side of owning a Maserati is the maintenance. It was common to spend at least $2k-$3k yearly in maintenance for the car. And that was driving it well below the 12k average miles per year. You also have the same interior issues as seen in Ferrari, sticky buttons are still an issue as with the leather dash starting to lift at the edges. If you plan on owning one be sure to budget in your maintenance costs.
