When used R34 GTRs were around 50-60k it was a obtainable dream car for me. I had every intention of throwing money at one in 2024. However after money printer started going brrrrr like crazy in 2020 and 2021 that dream is more or less dead, especially when you consider they'll cost 140k+ for a high miles example by then. I agree. I can buy one right now, but why? Its old….. the chasis is what scares me, people drive these hard as hell & Id basically burn the car if i found out it came with a fucked up chasis in an undetectable location…

At this point, an R34 is really just a classic car to the industry. The prices sure act like it. People aren't buying it for the luxury and commodities. Just the coolness that a rare car provides. Great video Craig.

All the dash readouts in the MFD of the R34 were designed, from layout to font, by Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo. Which helps to explain why this car was such a Godzilla in their games. They helped make it. That’s why it seems to be something straight out of a video game. Because it is.

To me the R32 GTR should be the most highly valued. Since it was the original Rb26 car and it has a lot of rich racing history in Australia and abroad. But the R34 has all the hype becuse of Fast and Furious.
I see your point, but did you know there are more R32 GTR's made than all the R33 GTR and all R34 GTR's combined? The r34 does seem to be a bit overhyped though. Imo the R33 GTR gives the best bang for the buck, ive driven all 3 generations and owned the R33 GTR V-spec for 10.5 years. @@gtrulez I am aware of production numbers. I have been looking to sell 1 of my 240z's to buy an R32 or R33 GTR. But I'm still not sure I really want to do that. For me the R32 GTR has slightly more appeal because I remember it racing at Bathurst in the early 90s. I agree the 33 is more refined, but I find the styling a little bland (probably because you see so many R33 GTSTs about). However I do like the series 3 R33 GTRs and the 400R is an amazing machine. But I also have a Nissan Stagea 260rs (99 model) which as you probably know has an Rb26 and is the perfect family hauler. So I feel I've kind of scratched the itch of a GTR. Plus they only made 1,700 of those! I've always kind of preferred the Rx7s and I'm in the process of getting my FD back on the road now. I feel the GTR is a cool JDM icon but it's more muscle / GT car than pure sports car. Where as the FD is as pure a sports car experience as you can get.
I heard it somewhere there is a huge inventory of pristine condition R-34s stored away somewhere in Japan waiting to be sold in the US when they become legal in a couple years.
Dude, tons of people have been keeping a few in storage for the past 10 years but recently in the past 5 years more and more people are hoarding them. I remember back in 2010 you could buy an r34 v spec 2 for 35k all day in Japan. Now it’s getting hard to find a good condition one.
I bought my R33 out of the bottom of my heart. I was in love with it when I first learned about it. Already going stupid with my money on it, but cost of parts is not the issue for owning these cars, it's finding the parts.
As much as I love the R-34, it's realistically not worth the current prices compared to alternatives (especially since they're starting to become SUPER inflated in price. But it's still one of those cars you'd want to drive at least once within your life time, no doubt.
The r35 needs a major facelift, it’s been too long. Love it for what it is, but it’s just not a special car anymore. Every rich tech mogul 21 year old douchebag makes it their first “cool” car. Also, the headlights look more 370z than gtr.
As a detailer and having clients and friends who were financially stable to buy and modify all sorts from around the globe.... my personal opinion is that off.. if you can afford it and you want it the buy it. Having sat in the passanger seat of a few i can say that there is a great thrill but it does wear off rather quickly when you consider most of the people who own them will never push the limits of the gtr never mind pushing it on a b road. The best fun ive ever had was in an old supercharged 1380cc mini. The only other thing that could compete for overall noise/feel and overall experience was an austin ruby converted to a single seat running a a small turbo t25 duratec built to accelerate as hard and as fast as you dare to push it. With the price of these cars now id be looking to retromod something older and make it unique and built with purpouse.
I had an R33 GTR Vspec. I sold it in regards to purchase an R34 GTR. I had a friend that had one that let me drive it and it felt the same. What I hated the most is the skyline community, in a way, kind of like the supra community, is the toxicity, insecurity and jealousy from the tuner world. Really was a put off. I ended up getting a Gen 5 Viper. I want an R34 GTR as much as the next guy, but for a clean one, your over 200K. I’d rather get an Gen 5 ACR viper for that price

It will come down, but it wont "crash" in the sense that itll be worth 50k (r34 gtr anyway). It'll come down by 20-40k once the hype wears off. There's not enough r34 gtrs on the earth for the price to drop significantly.
I miss my r32 GTR, but I wouldn’t a buy another, for me the price is out of control... and the amount of work to get a safe 800hp out of an RB is a lot more work then the 2jz.
I’m a mailman. I’m well used to driving with wrong hand drive. Although when I buy a foreign project car, I’m spending it on a Mini. Not as fast, but nothing handles like a well set up Mini. NOTHING.
The R33 is that red headed stepchild no one really cares about but the R32 and R34 are the ones everyone wants. So the R33 is cheaper but even those are going up in value. So if you want a 90's early 2000's Skyline you better have a good job and or saved a lot of money.
Wrong. R33 is getting to R34 level prices. It is the next available GTR in the US. Low supply, high demand. Even though R32’s are somewhat obtainable still, they eventually won’t be.
I totally get why my dad loves the C3 Corvettess now. Where I'm from they're rare(ish). When he was growing up they were cool looking, decent performing sports cars. They hardly great performers now, but they're super fun to drive. My 2011 (mildly modified) hot hatch is probably faster than a stock R34 GTR. But I still want one soooooo badly. They're just cool.
When craig did the first two gas and furious movies, Paul drove Craig's cars. Now craig is driving Paul's car. It's amazing to see things come full circle.
I’d say no from my experience but it’s not just the R34 GT-R all of these 90s JDM cars people fan girl over hard are not worth the money of modern day. I’d rather have something that does not need to be built to be competitive and to have fun in. But it’s good for me regardless because the more people feed into the hype and overpay on these cars the higher my chances are of selling my R34 to get into a Gen V Viper 😂
People arent driving or appreciating these cars anymore. A large number of domestic and foreign buyers are now only using these cars as speculative investments. There are many of these cars going straight into locked garages in HK like V-spec/Nur specs
The coolest part of the r34 is it was beating all the lambos, porsches, and ferraris of its time. It’s the equivalent of a new wrx sti beating huracans around a track
It's really not big at all, the R34 looks bigger in person, honestly. It had a slightly longer wheel base than the R32 and R34, which made it a little worse on tight circuits but also more stable on fast stretches of road/track. The biggest drawback is the 5 speed vs. the 6 speed manual.
I haven't driven an R34 but I had M3s, Sierra and Escort Cosworth, EVO 7 and now like you I drive an R35 2017. I totally agree with you Craig, it's the best car I have ever owned. Very fast, reliable and easy to drive.
The biggest problem with the R34 is the over-hype it gets nowadays. It was a great car for being more or less a Japanese BMW M3: fast but practical and unique and interesting but not a full blown exotic and all sold for a reasonable price. The reasonable price aspect has been blown out of the water, now you can get a Porsche or Ferrari from that era for less money, so what the hell is everyone doing paying so much for R34s? I just said fuck it and got a motorcycle, I'll destroy almost any car and it only cost me $5700 for a pristine used one. It's actually hilarious, so far I've had Porsches, Teslas, and even a Lambo once line up next to me at a red light and "suddenly need to turn right" because they know they'd get embarrassed. You don't feel bad riding motorcyles hard, either, because they're way more serviceable than cars and if you somehow blow an engine a nice used one off of eBay is like $2k max because there are so many out there from totaled bikes.
@@nunyabusiness896 i get what you're saying but its probably better more a stand alone comment... I.e re read my original comment... These cars, like it or not, are now "future classics", investments or collector pieces, which is a great representation of the love we have (had) for them!
There was a time where R33 GTR's were going for £8-10k. People could actually afford them. Now collectors clocked on to the hype and have started hoarding them.
The R34 is an awsome car. But growing up the R35 is my dream car hoping that I can afford one in the future. At the moment I got an 350z and like to call it my baby GTR
@@Dynamic1312 Being broke is a choice. Work for your shit. Revolutionize. I don’t deny people take advantage of the system but there have been many throughout history who have achieved big things from nothing.
In my humble opinion, the R34 is worthless in terms of performance when you compare it to the R35. But the nostalgia feeling the R34 has is indeed priceless. The price of an R34 will go up in value yes but in terms of costs, the R35 is a much better buy in terms of super cars. You got nearly double the horsepower and torque in the R35 at half the price of an R34.
Did anyone else notice the other dream car off to the right @ 8:00? Also, Craig, you are a man after my own heart. B7 RS4s are in my opinion, the best of the RS4 line.
Ah, the days of Apexi Power FC tuner on the dash. I had the Mk4 Supra for 11 years and always had a soft spot for the R34. But as you said they have been surpassed in performance these days but as far as looks goes they still hold their own. Cheers.
ya know, I'm a sports car fan, and I know that car culture is generally pretty crass, but the off hand stuff in this one has me questioning if I'm coming back. I grew up on a dirt road where the motto was "you don't bother me, I won't bother you" so I just don't understand what's up with punching down and calling it the "good ol' days" in the same sentence he describes how much better and more affordable modern cars are. Today is the good days, the 90s are in the past and in the dust.
As someone who recently bought a 32 GTST, i can attest, it is a very weird transition to rhd. I’d catch myself slowly drifting into the lane to my left because my brain wasn’t computing me sitting on the fight side of the car
I have wanted an R34 since they became a thing. They're just a damn sexy car. I don't care if they're not the fastest thing out there. I just love them and would love to drive one one day!
Well it definitely was worth the money, but IMO it already isn't worth it anymore. With prices getting more and more outrageous there are cars to be had that can deliver similar amounts of everything a GTR can deliver, EXCEPT the aesthetics/design.
Four years ago, I could’ve bought an R34 GTR V Spec II for 45k. I bought an R32 two years ago for 26k and thought I got a deal, but they were going for about 12k two years before. Demand has been high since they all became legal and Nissan tripled the prices of their original parts. And now aftermarket companies like HKS, Greddy, etc, are following.
The r34 gtr should hold its value like it’s a good and should be like 30,000-40,000 maybe like around 50,000 80,000 for nicer ones and special limited versions not like 50,000-100,000 on average because like spending that much money on a car from 1999
driving an r34 into corners, you really feel the hi cas working but it only works properly when you hit that gas pedal and lose the sense of fear. once you understand how that works where your eyes look, your hand and feet got to do the talking to manhandle a r34. it feels like you're turning and the r34 wants to turn more when it actually does
No it’s 100% not worth $100,000 or $70,000 especially for only 276 horsepower cars like the mk4 supra and this are only getting sold for iconic value if you ever spend $100,000 on a car make sure it can actually get to 200 mph and over and has at least 500 horsepower
I bought my R32 GTR 3 months ago and I dont regret it. The R34 GTR is amazing but prices are crazy and the car got so overrated. The R32 GTR is still affordable, lighter and looks f* amazing
Here in New Zealand, you could get R32,R33, R34 GTRs for under 30k all day,A Few NZ spec R34GTR and R34GTT were delivered new from the Nissan dealership on a pre-order and big Unveiling along with NZ spec S14 facelift 200sx and our police got 3 200sx test cars to evaluate lol but ended up with the Commodore instead.

Finally someone finally brings the 34 down to earth. Thank you!
NOTHING.
As someone from the uk it seems funny that a mini is someone’s target foreign car lol. I think the newer ones are awful.
The R33 is that red headed stepchild no one really cares about but the R32 and R34 are the ones everyone wants. So the R33 is cheaper but even those are going up in value. So if you want a 90's early 2000's Skyline you better have a good job and or saved a lot of money.
Im glad because i also love the r33.
I love the r33
Wrong. R33 is getting to R34 level prices. It is the next available GTR in the US. Low supply, high demand. Even though R32’s are somewhat obtainable still, they eventually won’t be.
@@thenismoman4854 Hell, some trim levels of the '94 BNR32 Skyline Gtr are going for six figures now.
6:30 - 6:53 gave me chills, he's right all the way.
18:34 This is the first time I heard the expression "It's still as tight as a frog's butthole".
Vipers are way cooler then any skyline or supra in my opinion
Even how much u modify a r35, it won’t look as nice as a R34
How tf are you only at 180k subs? You're the reason I love cars so much
Craig is that cool uncle you wish you had when you were a little kid
ain't that the truth
Yes indeed
The R35 GTR MFD was designed by Polyphony who design Gran Turismo
“Just like dating a stripper: lotta satisfaction, lack of refinement!” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
People arent driving or appreciating these cars anymore. A large number of domestic and foreign buyers are now only using these cars as speculative investments. There are many of these cars going straight into locked garages in HK like V-spec/Nur specs
The coolest part of the r34 is it was beating all the lambos, porsches, and ferraris of its time. It’s the equivalent of a new wrx sti beating huracans around a track
At this point the lambos and vipers are owning everything on the streets
Comparable to Jay Leno’s garage. A true car guy. Spitting facts. Experience. And passion 🤙👌
Although considered "huge " I always found the R33 the best looking skyline
It's really not big at all, the R34 looks bigger in person, honestly. It had a slightly longer wheel base than the R32 and R34, which made it a little worse on tight circuits but also more stable on fast stretches of road/track. The biggest drawback is the 5 speed vs. the 6 speed manual.
I haven't driven an R34 but I had M3s, Sierra and Escort Cosworth, EVO 7 and now like you I drive an R35 2017. I totally agree with you Craig, it's the best car I have ever owned. Very fast, reliable and easy to drive.
At this point yes, if you want an investment, no if you wanna thrash it.... If you're rich enough to not care, I hate you... lol
Same chassis as the Skylines i think, at least you a part of the dream
To know that I'm going to leave this plane of existence one day and never get to drive an R34 or R35 shatters my soul.
Capitalism ruins 99% of people so 1% get to live a great life
Why can't you drive a R35 one day? They aren't incredibly rare or unachievably expensive.
@@markjmarkjack Because I'm a wage slave with no financial freedom lol, I drive an 07 350z and I'm extremely grateful to get that far
LOL poor people and their dreams.
Agree , and if you want the nostalgia affect , I think the R32 takes the spot over the 34
Did anyone else notice the other dream car off to the right @ 8:00?
Also, Craig, you are a man after my own heart. B7 RS4s are in my opinion, the best of the RS4 line.
Craig is seriously one of the coolest dudes on earth.
Hey Craig, did you see what that red 7k mile Supra sold for? 201k $.. that's nuts!
You missed the #1 difference, you can get a 35 for about half the cost of a 34. If I could afford a 34 I'd just get a Hakosuka
Ah, the days of Apexi Power FC tuner on the dash. I had the Mk4 Supra for 11 years and always had a soft spot for the R34. But as you said they have been surpassed in performance these days but as far as looks goes they still hold their own. Cheers.
Cool video keep them coming man
ya know, I'm a sports car fan, and I know that car culture is generally pretty crass, but the off hand stuff in this one has me questioning if I'm coming back.
“When everyone knew what gender they were” 😂😂😂
As someone who recently bought a 32 GTST, i can attest, it is a very weird transition to rhd. I’d catch myself slowly drifting into the lane to my left because my brain wasn’t computing me sitting on the fight side of the car
I do that but whenever I drive my daily crv because I’m so used to driving rhd. I have an r33
short answer: yes
long answer: HECK YES
my savings account: 1965 Volkswagen Beetle
Nobody:
Craig Liebermann: CONFESSION
I have wanted an R34 since they became a thing. They're just a damn sexy car. I don't care if they're not the fastest thing out there. I just love them and would love to drive one one day!
As much as I would love to own one, I would never pay the current day prices. I would buy an r35 Gtr before I buy an r34
Great video Craig !!!!!
Well it definitely was worth the money, but IMO it already isn't worth it anymore. With prices getting more and more outrageous there are cars to be had that can deliver similar amounts of everything a GTR can deliver, EXCEPT the aesthetics/design.
Every 90s Japanese car has become an emotional purchase decision rather than logic and more people need to realize this
Of course that's when people who wanted those cars finally make enough money to actually contemplate buying one.
I love the style of the R33 and I would love to own one. A friend of mine named Ben has a sick R35 and it makes me want that car too.
Everyone in Japan smokes, >throws up clips of Bunta. Accurate,
I hope to add an R35 to the stable in the near future. Currently have a 38k mile 1998 QSFX Supra turbo 6spd, it's just as good as an R34 I think.
I love the R32, that’s my favourite GTR.
I’ll always be working towards an r34, worth it or not
The r34 gtr should hold its value like it’s a good and should be like 30,000-40,000 maybe like around 50,000 80,000 for nicer ones and special limited versions not like 50,000-100,000 on average because like spending that much money on a car from 1999
"Loaned me his car for the summer." Y'all that's a true homie right there!
driving an r34 into corners, you really feel the hi cas working but it only works properly when you hit that gas pedal and lose the sense of fear. once you understand how that works where your eyes look, your hand and feet got to do the talking to manhandle a r34. it feels like you're turning and the r34 wants to turn more when it actually does
No it’s 100% not worth $100,000 or $70,000 especially for only 276 horsepower cars like the mk4 supra and this are only getting sold for iconic value if you ever spend $100,000 on a car make sure it can actually get to 200 mph and over and has at least 500 horsepower
Not just about speed buddy
He said old guys like himself. Me thinking this guy is 100 times cooler and more younger than me at his age and I just got my license.
It's not worth the price. I would love to have one, however the current prices are outrageous.
The thing with cars most pay crazy prices for it because history , how rare it is and attachment to the car
I honestly just love the looks of the r34 skyline but I'd rather drive a modern Gtr black. I currently have a modded nissan maxima though lol
I personally don’t care about it being a GTR. I just want an rb26 and rwd. Gtt? Gts? Idk but I’d even settle for rb25 if no other choice
