2-Electrics

Definitely. Tokyo Drift hit at the wrong time. Could have been saved if Dom was around in the Tokyo Scene when dude got out there and he helps with the mustang.

After all these years, we finally have an in-depth look at what the true origin and true tuning of this legendary car were. This is going to help loads of people with actual skylines, and racing game people too. This is awesome.
Crazy that you all had a lightning-yellow R34 GTR in the 2nd movie, one of the rarest colors. Only 68 were made in comparison to the 347 MNP2 & 199 MNP3.
It's such a pretty color in person.
I have seen all the colors but Active Red & Lighting Yellow, lol. But I have plans to see the MCR R34 in the spring, so that fixes my Red issue.@@Und34d_R

I am absolutely blown away by those GTR prices
I remember in either end of 2003 or mid to early 2004 going to the Hollywood star car museum in Gatlinburg Tennessee and the jump car was there. I specifically remember seeing it. The placard that was next to the car describe the same damage that Craig spoke on after the jump. Even down to some of the yellow paint showing in certain areas. I think that car was there for maybe a year cuz the next time I came back it was gone.
I just saw the one from Universal Hollywood. It was actually in Orlando, FL on display at Wal-Mart promoting Lego's GT-R build
The Universal Studios ride that features this car is one of the worst rides ever... It needs to be removed.

It's not even a ride. It's a studio tour. 😂 No wonder you were disappointed. What did you expect? Plus it's not even bad. Just shows behind the scenes and gives you some film and studio info.
Wait a minute.... look, I agree thatbit could be significantly improved and it is supposed to make you as part of the movie... and it is an archaic proceeedure (as conducted), but at the end of the day... it's something, which is 90% better than nothing...

Of the 11 years I was stationed in Japan, I had 3 different Skyline GT'S. A '77, an '84, and a '92. Absolutely loved them.

I remember seeing the jump car in Spokane around 2007. It was an amazing experience. I'm glad to hear it is most likely still there!
I have lived in Newhall, CA since I was a kid. These cars would drive around the area and I would flip out 😅 i was an 11 year old kid, maybe 12 or 13 when they started filming the 2nd movie..
These movies shaped my love of cars and I will forever be grateful i got to experience this while it was new. Thanks for sharing Craig 😎✌️

There was a company called Tranceworx in Spokane Washington that had the Jump GTR I believe but it was before 2012. It was an old tuner shop that is no longer in business. The car was on display in the show room and had 2Fast 2Furious stunt car labeled on it.
I've seen a MotoRex car. It's the black one in GA.

The jump car was indeed in Spokane Washington, right after the movie came out. It was at a car stereo shop. It was cool to see, and I wish I still had some of the old pictures I took with it. I never knew who it sold to. But as a young man, it was awesome to see that car.

Also imagine if Brian started out in an Evo 7 first and move up to the skyline GT-R, it basically a call back from the first film where Brian started out in the eclipse and move up to supra. Basically, moving up the food chain in tuner cars. Man it was a missed opportunity, but hey at least the GT-R got some screen time for the night race.
No real modes. Just cosmetics and safety equipment.

@@NightVisionz457What are you talking about? That was the time when R34s were legal but Evos were NOT.
In hindsight, the SRT4 was worthy. Maybe not for the "ultimate star car," but damn sure more respectable than the 3g Eclipse, and the Cavaliers, Sunfires, Focus ZX3s, and Tiburouns that we saw in the background of the movie. It still had a place in the film, and should have been put in there somewhere. They should have brought a few cars out, let you drive some of them, spoke more about the Mopar Stage Kits that they were developing at the time, etc. etc., and that may have swayed you slightly. If they didn't do that for you, then their marketing team sucked.
Also, and as much as the word "diverse" is overused these days, the car culture isn't always a certain way. Not everyone and anyone who streets races only drove import cars, or only drives muscle cars, even at that time. There's always going to be a mix, even if you're in LA, or the East Coast, or whatever. So to have absolutely nothing but all JDM cars through all of these movies is outlandish and unrealistic, anyway. There's always going to be a few dudes with built-up old Novas, Chevelles, Fox Mustangs, later F-bodies, etc., in the mix somewhere.
The first two movies painted it as if you were only into cars, if you were an import guy. Or if you drove muscle cars, you must be like 55 years old, even back in 2002.
I personally grew up in the early 2000s, I was 9 in 2002. Born and raised in Michigan, my folks had lifted Squarebodys and my grandmother still has her 69 Vette, that was bought new.
I purchased a 03 solar yellow srt-4 in March or April of 03 to replace my tired 2g dsm and quickly put on the Mopar stage 1
Nobody knew what srt was and everyone thought it was a regular neon.
the amount of butt hurt I dished out to the import crowd in the summer of 03 was amazing I'll never forget it.
@@jenningsmills5398 I remember those days well. Two of my best friends both bought '04 SRT4s brand new, in black, back in the day. The one car had every Mopar speed part available for it, and then some. The other had a couple of "free mods" and one or two little things. Both cars surprised a lot of people. The were several "outer circle" friends of ours at that had them, too. The SRT4 was pretty much the go-to, bang-for-the-buck performance car, especially from America, at the time.
In fact, if you only had a few hundred bucks to spend a month (or about $19k total), on a brand new performance car, and you didn't buy an SRT-4, you were officially an idiot.

Yeah I was kind of sad about the Neon too lol, they were cool little nuggets. Similar happened with the Golf R32 in Tokyo Drift, but at least that one ended up with one of the cooler (if under-utilized) side characters. :P
Fast and furious 1-3 still rides my heart until today. And to this dat I still watched them for comofort.

I randomly came across this video and the major thing that stuck out was the two photos of the car at Ride Revolution in Johnson City TN... I had no idea that was the first legal R34 in the USA and I also got in trouble for sitting in it (totally worth it). Not many people even remember Ride Revolution but it was a huge thing in my area back in 2004-2006ish before they closed the entire shop. I miss those days...
I absolutely loved the Blackbird when I saw it in a magazine article on Motorex. I remember being big mad when I learned the 2F2F car was the same car. Ruined. Yeah, yeah cold hard marketing facts... the car just looked better black in my opinion.

Indeed was told by someone years ago that Middlehurt supplied a UK car to Universal even though I knew the actual hero car was a JDM GTR, Im from the UK town the dealership is based in.

Its crazy as a kid i remember the undergoing training videos for drifting and drag races shows a version of your gtr with the red strips (i think they changed it to yellow) then you were the one who made eddies skyline 🤯

Recently, the theme park @ Universal Studios had its anniversary of the Studio Tour and we got to get off the trams and walk behind the Bates Motel set and got an very up close picture of Brians Skyline and Dom’s Charger, glad they restored the paint with it! Plus I’ve seen the other cars like SlapJacks Supra, Romans Spyder, and Orange Julius’ Mazda.

I suspect the writers had similar thoughts on 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Issues they appear to have resolved by throwing darts at a wheel that included things like, "maybe they drive in space?", or "they all become super spies and jump cars like they're indestructible?".
I still have my issue of Super Street with your blue R34 on the cover and a pair of 'Super Street' seat belt shoulder pads from around that same time

Dodge Neon was awesome driving car in Underground 1. It felt ther like a rally car to perform some cool stunts on sharp turnings just cutting it like a razor blade straight.
I saw the jump car in Spokane Valley Washington at an import tuner shop in the mid to late 2000s I think it was around 2007.

There was also one Nismo 400R R33 GTR for sale here about decade a go for 90000€. It newer sold either and it is real Nismo 400R. These days Nismo 400R s are insanely expensive. Nismo built 44 400R s in total. That Midnight purple 400R is still here in Finland today.
You are correct on the Washington state one or was correct. I went to PIR for beaches cruise in about 7 years ago and the guy that owned it had it there.
It's wild hearing one of the GTR's came from Middlehurst in the UK. I grew up a few miles from Middlehurst Nissan and knew it was the only (legal) UK importer of GTRs for a long time. We saw so many R34's, and later R35's arriving here by the truck load when they were brand new and would regularly drive by just to see what was there on any given day
Me too no longer a Nissan dealer now Kia took over the other week.

I swear blackbird was actually on the front page of a magazine 🤔 well anyways that iteration of the car was absolutely epic in my eyes and reading those mags back in the day helped me fall in love with Nissan that much more ! Nothing like being in the heart of AZ 20yo street racing cars and bikes going to college to learn how to build fast bikes what a time 🤘🤘🤘 always looked up to you Craig hope to meet you one day
Very interesting as always. I never knew the other R34s were brought in on temporary inport permits, and that the other cars were GTTs (side note: it was a Japan episode of Top Gear where Richard and James had to buy cars from an online auction and that's where I learned of the GTT that Richard bought)
Also, those 5 GT-Rs from Motorex cost $192,000 all together in 2002 which is $328,364.92 in 2023

My favorite version of the GTR in the movies, was the little short film between the 1st and 2nd movies. When Brian finds a beat up Skyline at a little car dealership on the side of the road. Like that would ever happen lol.
When he drives the car into the paint bay and it comes out with a fresh silver paint job, WHEW. I would pay a lot of money for a Skyline like that one.
Newhall. I commute through there everyday taking the San Francisquito road with my Genesis Coupe. One of the best roads in So Cal to shake down a car. Rock Inn still going strong on the weekends.

Wish they would have wrecked the EVO and instead traded to the GT-R. But that would've made the 3rd gen Eclipse look really bad.

I have a question about your skyline did it come with that c-west bodykit or was it with a stock bodykit and you had modified it?
It came that way because MOtoRex was wanting to seel those bodykits for all thier GT-Rs.
In Fast Furious 4 when Brian was selecting all those cars from the impound lot, what was he doing to modify the Skyline to make it better? I just never understood what parts he was taking from the other cars.

Crazy all these people complain about these cars being "overpriced". I paid less for my R34 GTR in 2020 than you paid for yours. People need to realize that outside of rare special editions, these cars haven't appreciated that much.
They maintained their value for the most part when you compare prices from back then. Just some small number of cars actually gained value. They’re coming down again thankfully. Few R34 GTR’s in Japan and Germany have sold for under $95k already USD
@@idontgotagun9867 yeah. If you take the original price and adjust for inflation it’s something like $120k. So they’re holding value. People take the prices of super rare Nurs and N1s and pretend they all cost that much.

I remember the jump car being for sale a few years back in Washington! I didn’t think it was the real one because when the hood was open it was yellow. I thought it was the grey import someone was trying to pass off as the real thing but it was the real one! Super crazy haha. He was asking like $75,000 or something but I don’t think he sold it.

Amazing how close we were to seeing Brian O’Connor drive a Neon SRT4 or a 350Z. I wonder if either of these cars being used would have reduced the value of R34 GTR’s now.

Does anyone have any info on the original green Mustang? Recently came across an interview for a Star Trek universe spin off on youtube where a guy out of Hollywood fl was taking credit for building the original green mustang for the Tokyo Drift movie. I figured someone on here might know how it came about.
