A few points. The exhaust, spoiler blade and end caps are aftermarket. Speedometer is also an upgrade. They all came with 180kmh clocks and lower redlines. Also they updated the steering wheel and seats in later models. And if anyone buys this car please get some security on it. Immobiliser and also some locking wheel nuts. Also check the fluids and fuses for the HICAS. I noticed the light was on. That said. This is my favourite model of them all. Thanks for this video, Doug. 🙂
The hicas on the R33 is electronic, so doesn't have any fluid to worry about. And the light was on since it's got a lock out bar fitted and nobody has bothered to remove the bulb.

i think he's not a huge fan of the golden JDM period sportscars, if you look at his car collection you can see he longs for either the quirky European cars or 2000's supercars (not mentioning daily regular reliable cars like land cruiser and land rover)
I love that even Mr. Quirky himself completely missed the most quirky button in the whole interior of the R33 GTR, and that is the button for the power antenna under and behind the steering wheel. It lets you choose between extending the antenna fully or only halfway, to look more cool and recieve less i guess. Also worth pointing out is the dual action lever for opening the trunk and the tank lid next to the driver seat, pull to release the trunk and push to open the tank lid. And for the exterior especially, the R33 has really nice looking taillights! when they light up they have individual rings inside that illuminate to resemble the look of a jet engine afterburner. Really cool looking and no other skyline has that 3D effect in the tail lights. Btw the front lip is painted on this car it used to be black from the factory. The side markers should be amber aswell. The Nismo gauge cluster was optional or installed afterwards (you could buy them seperatly aswell), the rear wiper was optional, not all GTR's have them. the fake carbon GTR emblems on the spoiler sides were optional aswell, the rear wing blade is aftermarket, stock they are painted body color without the lip at the end of the blade. Loved the video! Been a 1995 R33 GTR V-spec owner for 12 years now, finally Doug has reviewed it!
I had an R33 GTS-T twenty years ago, and I had totally forgotten about the wacky antenna button. No wonder Doug missed it! And yes I agree - the R33 was better than the 32 and 34 specifically because of the tail lights :-)
@@BrenGamerYT I strongly agreed with y'all. Being a JDM car it looked awesome back then, not so much by the standards of now and truly it was an enthusiast's car not a nice car with the most modern gadgets and features.
It didn't just feel more than 276bhp, it was more. People bought them and immediately put them on a dyno, where they made over 320bhp. This whole thing is referenced in Gran Turismo when you buy an R33, then go straight to your garage and check out the car, it has jumped to 323bhp.
@@65hi863dhyu exactly, and like he said, if you go to Gran Turismo and select any Japanese car made during the Gentleman's Agreement period, you'll see most (if not all) of them aren't really 276 HP.
Love the video and I'm glad you finally got around to reviewing an R33! A few additions: Every R32-R34 GT-R has a different fundamental hood shape than the regular Skyline it's based on, but the R33 takes that to another level: the headlights are about an inch farther forward than they are in the standard coupe and sedan! It's almost impossible to notice unless you're an unfortunate Skyline owner who bought a hood meant for a GT-R and discovered it wouldn't fit. Because this is a '95 "S1" car, the airbag steering wheel is considerably dorkier than it is for the '96-'98 cars, which got the same steering wheel as the '96-'98 Silvia K's. The "S1" also had slightly different interior panels, most noticeably the dashboard, because the '96 and later cars got a passenger side airbag and the entire dashboard needed to be recontoured to fit the airbag controller module. The '97-'98 "S3" cars had red accents in the interior where the "S1" and "S2" had blue accents. This means that there are three versions of the door interior panels for the GT-R, one for each revision! It's actually unclear to me why the "hump" in the passenger footwell is there. The front transfer case actually creates an even bigger intrusion into the *driver's side* footwell! In addition to having special front seats (which are shared with the R32 GT-R), the R33 GT-R also has different rear seats than the regular Skyline coupe! And the R33's back seat should be the most comfortable of the trio, as the R33 has a longer wheelbase than the R32 or the R34. Contrary to popular myth, though, the R33 is actually lighter than the R34, and that is even more true of the regular cars. The suspension in the non V-Spec car was significantly softer than either the R32 or R34, though, and this led a lot of journalists to perceive that the R33 *feels* heavier.
@@Benzinilinguine This is mostly the result of thorough research, a lot of which comes from R33 GT-R owner Aki Itoh's blog. I did a lot of this research in the course of working on a video game mod project.
@@jlopez1017d Yes, it is unreliable and fiddly and makes the car behave weird around certain speeds, because it turns the rear wheels with the front sometimes, and against the front at other times. It's good at low speed parking and such, bad in spirited driving.
@@hyperlogos if memory serves me correct hicas doesn't engage in low speed parking but in spirited driving (about 60kmh to 110 kmh). Talking from experience with a fairlady z32 with working hicas. It's amusing how people forget that the GTR, until the R34, were just based on a fairly standard car. The R33 was the first one to feature fuel injection and 6cyl engines in all models. The most basic R32 had a 4cyl CA18 carburated engine.
It really is! When I lived in Japan, my dad had an R33 GTS25T Type M, fairly cool but nothing too special. I like to say that the Skyline is just Japan's 3 series, just a regular family car with some cool sporty trims
@@y33sean people so often don't realize that there were Infact, non R skylines, and they're absolutely flabbergasted when you tell then that most skylines were automatic, 4door, 150hp family cars lol. And I've had people straight up say I'm lying when I told them that the r32 wasn't the first skyline after the hakosuka, and Infact, they've always just been mostly 4door slow family cars. That's kinda why I don't hate the new skylines, other than not using the RB motor, nothing has really changed about them
I've always been of the opinion Infiniti should have sold the Skylines in the US, including the GT-R. If they had done that, the market would have been quite different.
For the car being this expensive (current bid over $80K) The new owner will see this as an investment car. Which means it will mostly likely stay unmodified so it can be re-sold for a profit. Hopefully it stays out of the hands of youtubers looking to increase their views by screwing with that car

7:45 - the turn signals are on the right in all JDM cars, as far as I'm aware. A right hand drive/turn signal stalk on the left situation is I think more of a British market thing, when you've got, say, a Peugeot 206 that you sell in both right hand drive and left hand drive, and to cut manufacturing costs you have the same sort of steering column and stalks. I drive a 2001 Honda Inspire, which is essentially an Acura TL (it was even made in the US and then shipped to Japan), but it still has the turn signal switch on the right, strangely.
Not all JDM cars, European & American JDM cars have the turning stalk on the left & in all RHD markets except for the ones in Europe (UK, Ireland, Malta, Cyprus) the turning stalk remains on the left no matter where the car's from. Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, & Malaysian made vehicles have the turn stalk on the right whilst all the others have it on the left in every other RHD country
Though not that common, indicators/turn signals on the right for a RHD car are best, especially a manual-allows you to indicate and change gear simultaneously.
@@Lando-kx6so yeah, that sounds about right. I meant JDM cars of Japanese origin of course ;) though again, my car is American made (though it is a Japanese brand), and the turn signal stalk is on the right.
@@Lando-kx6so From an Australian RHD experience, all Japanese cars manufactured in Japan or Australia have the stalk on the right. European and US manufacturers who are too cheap to swap them over leave them on the left. Even the old Volvo 240 which was assembled in Australia had the stalk on the left.
@@gregf4170 I agree with my fellow Greg :) I've owned a string of Mazdas over the years (have a 2017 3 and 2018 CX5 currently) and a Datsun, as well as Australian Fords and Holdens, and every single one of them has had the turn signals on the right. I think usually it depends on the origin of the car - you could walk into a Ford dealership and buy a euro-built Focus with the signals on the left, or a Falcon with them on the right. Likewise with Holden, jumping from left for the Astra to right with the Commodore. One thing I'm not sure of - did they swap the stalk to the left when the Commodore was exported to the US as a Pontiac?
@@oki_m135i well yeah, aftermarket support is amazing, for sure, but I'm just talking about straight off the production line. That ability to efficiently transfer horsepower into the road. Stock standard. That's why the GT-R was such a monster. Plus we ain't all rocking HICAS. Some of us like to go sideways.
That gauge cluster is a nismo part different from the standard. The standard one still has a high redline (8k), but the speedo doesn't go as high. Also the turbos kick in at the same time. They are smaller so you get less lag than a single bigger turbo.
Modifications reported by the seller include a Nismo gauge cluster, BLITZ NUR-touring cat-back exhaust, GKTech HICAS delete bar, stainless steel brake lines, a painted front splitter, a carbon fiber rear spoiler blade, a Nismo aluminum pedal set, and a Pioneer head unit.
Pretty accurate review, This is coming from a long time R33 owner and daily driver, I live in Tbilisi, Georgia(Yeah, The Country 😆) especially about the rear seat space, that's pretty much the case for the R33 in general, also Red GT badge is common for all Turbo versions of R33s, both GTR and GTS25T, but what is pretty rare and special is that black Nismo 320 km/h cluster. Keep up the good work!
My favourite GT-R... When I was a kid I had a book called the "Dog and Lemon Guide" and it was a kind of comedy car listing book. In the GT-R category, under the safety section, it had a "Deadly" rating with a little grim reaper next to it. The book said, "It's not that the GT-R isn't equipped with inertia reel seatbelts, airbags and ABS. It's that most Skylines end up wrapped around lamp posts. Proceed with extreme caution!" That made me want one more than any other car in the book.
hahahaha! 🤣 Sounds like someone explaining the "VL Commodore" in Australia... which also came with an RB... hmmmm... (although, to be fair, they mostly split in two, rather than "wrapped around" light poles... 🤷♂️ )
Had one of those in around 2005 for a few years. "Grey import" into Aus. They could be gotten for pretty reasonable money back then, they're definitely increasing in value now. Great car, fast and bullet proof drivetrain. The wheels are pretty special for the time, they were forged alloy, not cast. Very expensive. I think the reason so many have aftermarket wheels is because the owners were preserving the originals, or because the originals got stolen!
One of the seriously awesome handling tweaks of the R33 chassis is its balance is almost perfect 50/50 front and rear... one if the most awesome things about the car in terms of handling which is often not known or forgot about.
something i believe would he really beneficial to your channel would be a trip to australia, you would gain a new audience because us australians love our cars and love it when someone reviews them and gives their reaction, and on the other side your current audience who may not know of ford australia and holden cars would see a new world in the car lifestyle
The R33 has always been my favorite GTR. I love the fact that it seemed massive compared to the R32 and the R34. Plus growing up from that era, GTR wing on everything!
R33 owner here. Yes, the turn signal/wipers is something you mess up many times before you get used to it. The gauge cluster is not standard, it should be a cluster with GT-R in the corner instead of Nismo, and the displayed top speed should be 180km/h. Also seems like the HICAS was not working on this one, or at least there's something not quite right. The carbon spoiler blade is also aftermarket. Other than that its a really clean and unmolested example
Quick question. How much did you pay for your R33, who imported it (if it had to be imported) and what are some things a new owner must know about? The r33 is my dream car and I hope to buy one someday
In my country (RHD) Asian cars usually have the indicator stalk on the right while Western ones have them on the left, but its the other way round for fuel filler caps. The former also usually put the headlight switch knob on the end of the indicator stalk too, saving space. My family's former Ford Laser had the stalk on the right though as its a re-badged Mazda 323.
FUN FACT: If you start up the original Gran Turismo on Playstation 1, and you button mash X & not touch any other button, you can actually complete 2 laps of High Speed Ring in a purple R33. Tough challenge, but it can be done.
7:30 - the indicator stalk on RHD is weird. Japanese and Aussie made cars all have them on the right, which makes sense. They're a RHD market. Euro manufacturers leave it on the left for RHD cars, which although lazy, makes sense. Cuts costs. But what is the excuse of british car manufacturers? RHD and the indicator stalk is natively on the left!
Prob has more to do with the fact of trade between UK and Europe. keep it the same as euro cars since most in UK have easiest access to euro cars and UK cars are prob most often shipped to Europe (lessens the friction for drivers). Also, many Asian markets have Asian pride (they prefer the local names) so it might be easier to cater to the market your more likely to sell in. I'm pretty sure most cooperate decisions come down to costs in most cases.
British cars used to have it on the right, but as manufacturers sought to sell more cars in continental Europe it wasn't cost effective to have two different assemblies. ISTR the Austin Allegro switched mid-way through production...
The very first generation and the R34s are the only ones I ever liked, but the general awesomeness and dominance of these certainly can't be denied. Fantastic cars.
They are great cars. No doubt about it. I've always wondered though if they hadn't been made as fast in Gran Turismo would they be as popular? The impact of that game on young gear heads was pretty profound.
I wish I had the passion for anything like Doug has for quirky cars. I'm like the antithesis of a car person. I literally only watch these videos because Doug is so entertaining.
I love the GTRs. From old to new, they have been a middle class sports car forever, almost. Unfortunately, before I bought my Sti and my house, I sat down and really thought about buying a r32. The biggest down side if parts availability, mechanics, and theft. I'll still squal like a school girl when I see one. And I've owned my Sti for 7+ years with the original engine. Don't at me about ringlands.
Knowing what the Doug Score was the 34 model. I stopped the video there. Good review and thank you for sharing this with us sir. Hope to see more of these on the road in the USA soon.
The R33 skyline has always been my favourite aesthetically, it's such a weird combination of 80's and 90's design choices and that makes less cohesive but more interesting to my eye
Finally he reviewed the r33 gtr, an absolute treat to watch him review a car which gets overlooked on, though it’s reputation has gotten better over time. I hope he reviews the r32 next, yes I know he owned one and made many videos on it but they weren’t any in depth review.
7:31 Oh my god 😂 I live in a right-hand drive country, and own two cars, which each have their turn signals on opposite sides. When you're used to driving one car, hopping in the other is a nightmare of turning the wipers on instead of the turn signals 😆
I checked your "about" and turns out we live in the same right-hand drive country... I've spent the best part of 35 years driving only "normal" cars with signals on the correct righthand side... My workplace has a few cars with signals on the "wrong" side... and yes, soooo annoying to constantly be turning on wipers!
@@heathwellsNZ rhd cars sold in europe still has signals on the left and wipers on right while asia/au market rhd cars the signals and wipers are swapped but some car companies didn't bother to adjust the wiper and signal placement based on the rhd market
Good to see Doug sitting on the correct side of the car... With the indicators on the correct side too. You can't drive a manual RHD manual car on the road with the indicators on the left. You need them at your right hand.
I'm not sure you "need" them at your right hand per say. Here in England most cars have them on the left hand side and it comes very natural the more you drive. I do however believe that they're on the left to cut down on manufacturing costs when making the same car in LHD & RHD.
@@HAMMER8181 If you do, you want the hand that's not busy shifting gears to be able to do it while keeping the non gear shifting hand on the steering wheel. It just makes it more confusing when they're on the same side as the gear shift, swapping them is the correct layout.
It is actually make more sense to have indicators to the right if you drive on left side of the road. You can hold steering wheel with right hand, driving on bends and turns, changing indicators with your fingers at the same time while your left hand is on the gear shift lever most of the time. It's very handy.
It does. That's the way my 93 Cappuccino is laid out and it just makes sense. Years ago I rented a Peugeot in the UK and it was on the left. It was weird and a real pain to be honest, particularly when pulling out from a light and you'd have to switch from gearshift to turn signal. My only real problem is when I switch from the Cap to my Xterra or my Mini Cooper and you mess up and hit the wipers a few times before your brain says "You're driving LHD now dummy!"
The R33 is my favorite Skyline due to playing Gran Turismo on the PS1 back in the day. In 1998 when I was 18 I purchased a sweet 1991 240 SX SE hatchback from a friend and it had the Super Hicas system on it. It was a color called Misty Blue. That's the car I wish I still had
@@Welcometofacsistube I've had the opportunity to see a couple of those in 240s. Very sick! I don't really remember much about the engine mine had. I remember it was a 2.4 with duel over head cams
I guess GT1 shaped a generation. I also prefer the R33 over all others, exactly for the same reason. GT1 introduced me to all the greatest japanese 90s cars, and to the best of them all, the Supra RZ!
I used to have this car's single-turbo little brother, the R33 GTS 25-t type M. Was my dream car - RWD, had some tasteful mods already on it, absolute blast to drive.
Regarding the 90s maxima in Saudi Arabia when the r33 came up to the Japanese Market a lot of people imported the r33 but to make it street legal they were swapping the dashboards using the 90s maxima left hand drive so it's clear that everything was the same even u can't tell it's swapped
Had mine for just over 6 years. Cool cars. Although I will say the stock performance won't blow you away if you've driven any modern performance car before driving one of these.
@@dontworrybout2664 yeah it gets a lot of attention. Sometimes because people assume it's got 1000bhp and can run 7sec quarter miles. People definitely put it on a pedestal like it's world's ahead of any other performance car. It's got a very big overhead for more power but it gets expensive. Mines running just over 500whp on 2860-5 twins and it's much more of what I imagined a GTR to be. But modern cars are able to get the power down much more efficiently. I forget what chanel done a video on the 32, 33 and 34 GTR's doing drag times. They're all tuned to over 800whp. The scoreboard shows an Audi RS3 with 500whp ran the quarter mile only a few fractions of a second slower with a few hundred bhp less.
The Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R. Gotta say that this is a JDM Icon. I honestly prefer the R32 GT-R (Doug should do a new review of this model), but the R33 is really cool too. I hope that one day, Doug will be able to review the Hakosuka Skyline. Also, I'm happy to see that Doug is a fan of the RB26 engine. Nice review!
Hakosukas are nice, but I've driven both and they aren't nearly as performant as the 90's models. They drive much like older imports like the 240z, albeit a little less snappy due to the smaller displacement motor. You also get some slop in the steering and throttle, as with most cars from that era.
@@B0F for the every day person, sure, but if you are reviewing a vehicle, at least get all the correct trims. Especially since the 400R is the most rare
Nissan Skyline GTR's were always popular with guys in Australia. That right hand drive setup with the indicator stalk on the right hand side of the steering wheel was standard for Australian and British cars. As a result Japanese performance cars were extremely popular in Australia! An excellent example of a great car Doug!
Doug speaks truth, the OG Gran Turismo is why the Skyline is still to this day my dream car --Even though the the car I dominated with on that game was the 3000GT... (I couldn't control the GTR lol)
Not this example lol. Looks like it must have been a newer import because the condition isn't that great other than the silver paint maybe. Worn out interior bits, worn paint on the brembos and the wipers, and the engine bay bolts have more rust than usual. Rust on the passenger side strut seam towards the intake too. I bought mine in 2018, stored it outside for 2 years, and still my car is in way better condition than this.
@@timetravelingoldman6839 Just because it's 25 years old, doesn't mean it has to be worn out like this. By your logic I guess all Datsuns should be a pile of rust. I'm just saying how it is because there are tons of gtr's in better condition and unfortunately this will sell for over 60 maybe even 70k because it's "stock".
Car collectors are some of the worst car guys in the world. They care about being rich and having money and not being actual passionate car guys that drives them hard. Change my mind
Regarding the turn signal and wiper stalks in right hand drive cars, the reason some cars put the turn signal stalk on the left and others do it on the right is based on where the car was manufactured. It's common for a lot of European cars with a right-hand drive configuration to put the turn singnal stalk on the left, wheas Asian right-hand drive cars and Australian market cars put the turn signals on the right. I live in Australia which is a right-hand drive country and I own two cars, a 1993 BMW E36 318i, as well as a 2000 Ford AU Falcon XR8, which was built and designed in Australia. The BMW has it's turn signal stalk on the left of the streeing wheel, whereas the Falcon has it on the right side of the steering wheel. Other cars my family have owned have been other model Falcons, a couple of Holden (GM) vehicles, as well as a few Asian cars in the past from Toyota and Hyundai. All the Australian and Asian models had their turn signals on the right hand side of the wheel. However, my parents also had a 90s Land Rover Discovery, and my Uncle also owned a Discovery of the same generation as well as a Saab 900S, both of which had their turn signal stalk on the left, just like my BMW does, which proves my theory that it's a European thing to put the turn signals on the left, which makes sense as most European cars that are right-hand drive are left-hand drive conversions, so they don't bother moving the turn signal and wiper stalks to their correct position for right-hand drive markets.
Some manufacturers used to put out gems to the public from time to time, it's so sad the American market wasn't blessed with some of these Japanese icons
Every single JDM car I can think of off the top of my head had the turn signal on the right side. The only ones I can think of that kept them on the left were some German RHD cars.
I love you doug. Youre my fav TH-camr point zero period. And i appreciate you reviewing the older cars with the newer ones but this just takes the cake. My all time fav car and skyline the amazing R33
@@B0F On a good deal, the price of this isn't too far off from a new supra. When I bought my r33 gtr in 2018, I paid less than a new wrx sti. It's all about timing and knowing where to look and not getting scammed by importers taking huge profit margins. I even imported mine myself and it was a breeze. Also a gtst and gtt's are nearing 30k which is what I paid for my gtr in 2018. There are better cars out there for that kind of money especially if you aren't getting the gtr trim.
Nowadays Nissan makes mediocre cars. The R35 came out in 2007 for Japan and 2009 for US. I was in preschool in 2008-2009 when the R35 came out. I graduated high school a week ago, and they still exist. I don’t care about Toyota refreshing the Land Cruiser, Tundra or Sequoia every 15 years or so because they are so reliable, but Nissan still making the same car after 15 years is really lazy. I know Nissan is not doing the best financially but if they do get enough money, they should spend it all on an R36. Maybe make a mid engine V8 to compete with the C8 Corvette, Ferraris and mclarens. When the R35 debuted in 2007, the S197 Mustang was 2 years old, and during that time, the 6th gen Mustang came out the S550. Now it’s almost the end of the S550 gen and in 2024 the 7th gen S650 Mustang is coming out, and I bet that the R35 will still be made. Way to go Nissan 😂

Great car and of course a typical great "Doug DeMuro" review......BUT, The REAL question is, how the heck do you go through a drive through here in America?
My dad had one and an R32 when I was a kid and never thought much of it lol in all honesty I thought the Cefiro he eventually got was cooler 😂 As there were heaps of skylines around in those days, some of my uncles had some as well.
I used to own R32 GTR around 1990 to 1996 in Japan. When I moved to the U.S.A, I wanted to bring mine but dmv required proof of crash tests for 3 GTRs. So I gave up. I am glad now many people talks about GTR in the world! I put some pictures in my channel.
i own a 97 maxima, thats not only the same steering wheel but the same door handles, looks like same mirror glass, same cigarette lighter and port, same plastic door runners, same signal and wiper controls, same handle for adjusting the vents... you get the idea. I mean its a cost saving measure that honestly takes nothing away from it in my opinion so i have no complaints.
Can’t believe he’s completely missed the fact that this isn’t just a R33 GTR, but is actually the V-spec model, the A-LSD light in the gauge cluster denotes that it has an active electronic differential, also benefits from stiffer suspension, 20mm lower than a stock GTR, and the slightly less deep front lip with integrated brake ducts.
The signals are on the other side so you can change gear and turn on the signal at the same time. Additionally, in the engine bay on the vacuum line going to the waste gate actuator, there’s a yellow subtle line. That indicates where the boost restrictor is so if you disconnect the vacuum line and squeeze out that restrictor, you have a jump in boost. The story is that they kept the boost restrictor in there for the “gentleman’s agreement” but showed owners had to get a jump in power.
11:55 That explains, i've always kinda wondered why so many iconic cars in Gran Turismo were around that 276hp mark, i always assumed it was because of some regulation, or just lazy programming, as i didn't check the numbers outside of the game.

i think he's not a huge fan of the golden JDM period sportscars, if you look at his car collection you can see he longs for either the quirky European cars or 2000's supercars (not mentioning daily regular reliable cars like land cruiser and land rover)
Are we all forgetting that Doug used to own a skyline as well?
Are you on ig? I wanted to ask you some questions about r33s
I had an R33 GTS-T twenty years ago, and I had totally forgotten about the wacky antenna button. No wonder Doug missed it! And yes I agree - the R33 was better than the 32 and 34 specifically because of the tail lights :-)
@@jermainecotton4406 i am @gtrulez
Was the rear wiper truly optional? I've heard that it was actually standard, except that the V-Spec N1 deleted it.

@@BrenGamerYT I strongly agreed with y'all. Being a JDM car it looked awesome back then, not so much by the standards of now and truly it was an enthusiast's car not a nice car with the most modern gadgets and features.
Thanks for reviewing our car Doug! It was great meeting you (via FaceTime lol)!
It didn't just feel more than 276bhp, it was more. People bought them and immediately put them on a dyno, where they made over 320bhp. This whole thing is referenced in Gran Turismo when you buy an R33, then go straight to your garage and check out the car, it has jumped to 323bhp.
Learn something new every day. I remember this and never even thought anything of it
It was just a "gentleman's agreement" among Japanese manufacturers to limit to 276 hp. And no one followed it lol.
A few additions:
Every R32-R34 GT-R has a different fundamental hood shape than the regular Skyline it's based on, but the R33 takes that to another level: the headlights are about an inch farther forward than they are in the standard coupe and sedan!
You seem to know a lot. Did you own several of these or something?
@@Benzinilinguine This is mostly the result of thorough research, a lot of which comes from R33 GT-R owner Aki Itoh's blog. I did a lot of this research in the course of working on a video game mod project.
Doug, you’re driving a R33 with the rear wheel steering turned off. That’s why it doesn’t feel as nimble. That’s a pretty huge thing to overlook.
Someone's awake. 😉
Don’t most owners turn it off?
@@jlopez1017d Yes, it is unreliable and fiddly and makes the car behave weird around certain speeds, because it turns the rear wheels with the front sometimes, and against the front at other times. It's good at low speed parking and such, bad in spirited driving.

6:40 Doug talks about it
Including the R34, in fact. The R34 GT-R is closely based on the basic R34 coupe.
@@y33sean people so often don't realize that there were Infact, non R skylines, and they're absolutely flabbergasted when you tell then that most skylines were automatic, 4door, 150hp family cars lol. I've always been of the opinion Infiniti should have sold the Skylines in the US, including the GT-R. If they had done that, the market would have been quite different.
This car has gone so long being well kept and relatively unmodified - I really hope the new owner keeps it that way!
They will crash it
Luckily at the price it'll probably sell for, they won't get any teenagers bidding successfully

I feel like the ATTESA E-TS/ETS Pro system is always understated. It was the combination of the RB26 and that AWD system that really made the magic.
We take them off and add the HICAS delete
@@oki_m135i well yeah, aftermarket support is amazing, for sure, but I'm just talking about straight off the production line. That ability to efficiently transfer horsepower into the road. @@tomweather8887 I agree :)
Just sad to see the insane prices, dealers here in Japan are doing this and I get it but ehh...
That gauge cluster is a nismo part different from the standard. The standard one still has a high redline (8k), but the speedo doesn't go as high.
Also the turbos kick in at the same time. They are smaller so you get less lag than a single bigger turbo.
The factory speedometer only goes up to 180 km/h so that's another part that's among the first to be swapped out by tuners
Modifications reported by the seller include a Nismo gauge cluster, BLITZ NUR-touring cat-back exhaust, GKTech HICAS delete bar, stainless steel brake lines, a painted front splitter, a carbon fiber rear spoiler blade, a Nismo aluminum pedal set, and a Pioneer head unit.
Yep 180k speedometer to match the 180k speed limiter. I doubt if many of them went a week before the speed limit defeat black box went in.
Not exactly accurate. The left side of the GT badge is white on GTST and silver on the GTR. Different badges.

Proceed with extreme caution!"
That made me want one more than any other car in the book.
As Top Gear would've put it, "a car for yobbos". They definitely wind up wrapped around lamp posts... Lol
hahahaha! 🤣 Sounds like someone explaining the "VL Commodore" in Australia... which also came with an RB... hmmmm... (although, to be fair, they mostly split in two, rather than "wrapped around" light poles... 🤷♂️ )
The same book still exist, it just all online now and you have to pay for each individual car review now.

Yeah, they can't shift and flick the stock at the same time. 😂

Oh my god 😂 I live in a right-hand drive country, and own two cars, which each have their turn signals on opposite sides. When you're used to driving one car, hopping in the other is a nightmare of turning the wipers on instead of the turn signals 😆

Good to see Doug sitting on the correct side of the car... With the indicators on the correct side too.
You can't drive a manual RHD manual car on the road with the indicators on the left. You need them at your right hand.
Do you often find yourself shifting while indicating a turn?
I'm not sure you "need" them at your right hand per say. Here in England most cars have them on the left hand side and it comes very natural the more you drive. I do however believe that they're on the left to cut down on manufacturing costs when making the same car in LHD & RHD.
Huh? So all the UK cars are getting it "wrong" then, being RHD with indicators on the left?
@@HAMMER8181 If you do, you want the hand that's not busy shifting gears to be able to do it while keeping the non gear shifting hand on the steering wheel.

@@GaffaTV yes... All RHD cars with indicators on the left side have got the layout incorrect.
It is actually make more sense to have indicators to the right if you drive on left side of the road.

It does. That's the way my 93 Cappuccino is laid out and it just makes sense. Years ago I rented a Peugeot in the UK and it was on the left. It was weird and a real pain to be honest, particularly when pulling out from a light and you'd have to switch from gearshift to turn signal.
Doug speaks truth, the OG Gran Turismo is why the Skyline is still to this day my dream car --Even though the the car I dominated with on that game was the 3000GT... (I couldn't control the GTR lol)
A true collectors/connoisseurs car.
@@Sunny2456- This car is over 25 years old so don't expect it to be factory new. The condition is great for what the car is.
Yea we missed out on a lot of good cars in the 90s and 2000s
My dream car. So glad to see Doug reviewing it.
All these beautiful classic 90's cars are going to go up in value, as the 90's kids who drove them, grow older.
More like the 90s kids who got to know them from video games and movies
@@geronimowindow those people usually aren't the ones actually buying them tho, they stick to the gtst and gtt. they can no longer afford a GTR
@@geronimowindow Also true😊
They've already gone up in value. Clean models of ordinary 90s cars are already five figures.
Oh man Doug getting back into jdm weird cars is a special thing. So much potential! Delica , Cedric, cosmo , stagea,
For me one of the best GTR's ever!I love this car, it reminds me of Nissan's golden days!
somebody at the company across the street of my workplace has one dude dailies it to work to say im envious is a understatement
Finally you covered the R33, I will never sell mine! Underrated version of the Skylines.
I love R33 GT-Rs! It's my favorite car that shares the same age as I am! Unfortunately some GT-R ultras don't like these.....
Exactly...Same here. Mine is 2 months older than me.🤣👌 So funny if you think about that while driving this beauty😍
I love my 95 gtr I got mine right when it turned 25, people bash them but have never driven them and get all their info from initial d. They are great cars, more livable than a 32 and doesn’t look like something a gundam animator thought up like the 34.
Great car and of course a typical great "Doug DeMuro" review......BUT, The REAL question is, how the heck do you go through a drive through here in America?
i love the skyline gt-r r33,thank doug demuro.😄😄😄😄💯💯💯💯
My dad had one and an R32 when I was a kid and never thought much of it lol in all honesty I thought the Cefiro he eventually got was cooler 😂 As there were heaps of skylines around in those days, some of my uncles had some as well.
I used to own R32 GTR around 1990 to 1996 in Japan. When I moved to the U.S.A, I wanted to bring mine but dmv required proof of crash tests for 3 GTRs. So I gave up. I am glad now many people talks about GTR in the world! I put some pictures in my channel.
The R33 has always been my absolute favorite Skyline. Especially when tastefully nodded. I Love this one a lot. So much so, that I’m bidding on it 🤙🏻
The name exceeds the looks on this one..
R33's are my favorite. Beautiful cars. This one has a very nice interior. No faded seats. The old logo Nismo cluster is awesome!
i own a 97 maxima, thats not only the same steering wheel but the same door handles, looks like same mirror glass, same cigarette lighter and port, same plastic door runners, same signal and wiper controls, same handle for adjusting the vents... you get the idea.
I mean its a cost saving measure that honestly takes nothing away from it in my opinion so i have no complaints.
Doug is the typical guy who instead of singing in the shower, imitates car sounds 😂
@Paul who doesn't?
Really dude???....give up on that doug is the type of guy stuff ...... SO OVER PLAYED ...grow up foooooooool
He forgot to mention the 400R, which is incredibly rare. Great video and attention to details as usual.
Can’t believe he’s completely missed the fact that this isn’t just a R33 GTR, but is actually the V-spec model, the A-LSD light in the gauge cluster denotes that it has an active electronic differential, also benefits from stiffer suspension, 20mm lower than a stock GTR, and the slightly less deep front lip with integrated brake ducts.
it's not a V-Spec. You are correct about the A-LSD light, but the cluster is a Nismo aftermarket item, which all came with the A-LSD light.
About the regulations? Yes....The famous(or infamous) Gentleman's Agreement
The hate this car gets because of the R34 is absurd. It looks good and performs well. Wish I could drive one!
R33 is super underrated. If you ask me it suffers from "middle child syndrome". The other siblings (R32 & R34) get all the love. 'Tis a damn shame.
It's trash

I just got home and I'm taking my dogs out sitting down to watch this one... Doug reviews one of my dream cars 🔰
WhistlinDiesel's next video:
"Testing the Skyline reviewed by Doug Demuro"
Hahah it is funny as hell WD just did the video destroying it a couple days ago
I have never seen such a clean example of a R33 GTR! Kudos to the owner👍
