    Thank you for showing how to remove the plastic keeper. You helped me removed mine from an 81 35hp.

    Thanks this video will help me greatly when taking off my lower unit, that front nut is suddenly missing on my lower unit and is blowing gear oil and exhaust out of it now. Not sure what it could be but will tear into it soon

    Ahh my favorite lower. I had to replace the split nut on the last one I worked on. Oh the fun. The split nut and bushing cost as much as the water pump kit

      Yeah its silly, I wish they went to a standard plumbing compression fitting; would have worked fine. But no, "keeper"

    Great video with detailed explanations. I removed my lower unit on my 94 Evinrude 30Hp to check the pump etc and a small plastic washer fell out. Any idea where this washer is from? It’s about the size of a dime. I watched several videos and no one mentions this washer. Thanks!

      @@BrandonsGarage Yes, damaged the propellor on a rock with my new Mercury 20HP. We don't do much mechanical around here, and I didn't want to damage the motor even more. Came right out, thanks.

    I cant get the upper connecter of the shift shaft in the lower unit to slide up the shaft to access the plastic retainer. Any advice on how to get it to slide up. I have the upper connector unscrewed from the lower shift shaft coupling but the stupid thing wont slide up the shaft to remove the retainer

    I'm trying to get one running that I bought cheap ('82 35hp).. The previous owner had taken the lower off and when he put it back on the water tube was just shoved inside (not hooked up).. so I don't know the right way to put it in. Does the elbow go down, closer to the prop.. or up inside closer to the power head? Seems all the videos I've watched just glaze over the water tube. Thanks

    Brandon, May I ask you a question about a '71 Johnson 9.5 h.p. (9R71R) lower unit? I pulled it down to check the water pump and after replacing it, the gear shift is now off one notch. Reverse now indents where Neutral was and Neutral is now where Forward was and Forward is further down. Can you think of something I must have done wrong? Thank. you. dm

      I'll have one out soon, well, in a month probably.
      Anywho, shift rod seal is the same as the 9.9/15 HP -

    What is the best way to get one apart if that stud up front does snag? I'm on day 3 of breaking things trying to pry this thing apart. I've heated it up with a plumbing torch, I've whacked it, I've pried on everything I can pry on... still stuck. Any advice?

    • @BrandonsGarage
      @BrandonsGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      sure its the stud, and not the driveshaft?

      @@BrandonsGarage pretty sure. It has a lot of left to right play, I have about 1/4" gap, closer to 3/16" at the back side. I guess it could be the drive shaft. Any advice either way?

    Use a breaker bar to loosen the nuts and not your hands.

    • @gbaylis9363
      @gbaylis9363 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can get a feel using your hands to determine if it's going to come loose, a braker bar right off the bat won't tell you if you're about to snap off a bolt.
