  • I show how to replace your boat's outboard lower unit seals without buying special and expensive tools.
This motor is a 1999 2 stroke 25hp Mercury outboard that I have on my Lumberyard Skiff. Some of the portions of this video was corrupted, but most of the steps are shown/explained.
After removing the propeller and thrust washer, make sure you remove the small bolts holding the plate that the o-ring is behind before unscrewing the carrier assembly. I loosened the carrier assembly (where special tool is supposed to be used) by using a piece of 1"x2" scrap lumber and lightly striking it with a hammer in the off direction to loosen the carrier assembly enough to unscrew it by hand (I tightened it the same way). The reason I used wood is because it's soft and wouldn't damage the carrier assembly. Make sure to hit it lightly in the proper direction as not to bend the prop shaft.
When removing the 2 seals out of the carrier assembly, make sure NOT to scratch the inside of the carrier assembly because this could cause the seals to leak through/around those scratches.
Please send me a comment if you have questions.
