@@thgnotorious Nah, Thor joined late and kinda just wrecked the big ships. Tactical yes, but not much casualties. SW really only had one scene with the thingy, not much casualties. War Machine had the front entrance bottlenecked.

Sebastian Alvarez not really, Plastic mines are illegal because of their unnecessary suffering, besides, this is a movie with super heroes the directors could’ve changed the world however they want.
1. And 5. Like he said in the video, Wakanda isn’t ever participating in any wars so the have no reason to manufacture tanks or guns or any modern weapons
3. They had no reason why they should use mines due to the outriders tactics of simply overwhelming the enemy so any mines would have only killed the first few outriders making virtually no difference
4. If by “digging a hole” you mean trenches then I have no idea what you’re talking about, they had trenches in that battle (remember where black widow and scarlet witch killed that one lady by throwing her into the wheel thing)
But I definitely agree with you on the Air Force, like they already showed us that their flying vehicles have guns on them in Black Panther

"Alright, so Thanos and his minions are coming to Wakanda, so we need to defend. I'm thinking we open a small part of the shield to funnel them in. We'll dig small emplacements around it with machine guns to create a kill zone. We'll do that a few times to make a redundant, but effective cone of fire. After that we'll use those energy shields to make a second wall behind the trenches, there we'll put our mortars, tanks and other artillery. We'll continue to make trench lines up to the city incase they break through the first line of defense. The air force will be making tactical strikes outside the shields on large groups of enemies. While we're at it, we should recruit the help of other countries. After all, this could be the end of the world. I think this should give us enough time to remove the stone from Visions head, and hopefully stop Thanos forces. What about you, what's your plan?"

It is extremely difficult to assault a fortified structure, if they fortify it correctly. To wakanda's defense, they were short on time, and out of the times.

@@danielmartin6887 Keep in mind Wakanda has cloaking technology and we're viewing from the inside. Thanos forces most likely only had a general idea of the country's location, let alone what just took out roughly a company of theirs in a single shot. Thanos is a strategist not a simple warlord, he wouldn't commit to such a gamble of the unknown.

yeah i think the director intended the defeat of wakanda (of course) but they were more than capable of defeating them. like the this guy pointed out, the airforce was never deployed and they didnt use the kill zone to their advantage. if war machine held his position at the gate, bucky focused fire on the gate as well and the troops made sure the enemy didnt flank, it would have been a simple win. not to mention thor was just messing around with the already thinned out enemys on the field and couldve just made a big ass thunder bolt come down and kill 50 aliens at the gate.

Tanks... why do most scifi forget about a moving piece of armor with guns...
Because military technology has moved on a lot since WW2. It is OK taking modern battle tanks out against backwards middle eastern countries with 60s/70s technology (ie the Gulf War), but the last place you want to be in a battle between two well equipped modern superpowers is inside a tank. In modern warfare it will be like shooting rats in a barrel, with a shotgun. Fine, send tanks in after the enemy is defeated to do peace keeping, but on the frontline? No thanks.
Skip that, go straight for gunships. The outriders can't attack ranged targets, so a couple AC-130s, A-10s hell even Apaches and Vipers could easily handle all the outriders flowing through the funnel.

Wakanda was ridiculously advanced technologically, but so backwards in doctrine. They could have spanked a Roman legion, but a US Army Division with proper support would be a different fight entirely.

@@hydrogenone6866 that's the biggest thing they're missing, I'd say. In addition to that, close air support could wreak havok on the tightly packed Wakandan formations. They have a lot of potential, but have thousands of years of battle doctrines to catch up with.
Hell the romans had better spear tactics then them, why wakandas tactics were not based on the zulu at the very least has me very confused. Almost like the people who made the battle have no concept of historical combat at all.
Seriously, even if they just have even the catapult with Vibranium bomb the battle situation will be on their favor easily.

Thanos’ forces just had to shell the shield till it gave out then either charge in or bomb them to oblivion. With precise aim you could take out the entire Wakandan military without harming the center building and the Soul Stone.

And probably kill lots of Wakandans too, also Cull Obsidian would survive - Hulkbuster got _very_ lucky - but once Thor arrives Cull's dead. Cull was implied to be comparable to the Hulk, who was roughly equal to Thor without his hammer and without lightning - the same Thor who survived a city exploding at ground zero and a Neutron Star for a few minutes (according to Eitri, the cinematic timeframe is less).

If you launched them before they broke through? Sure, but we don't know how strong Wakandan shielding _is,_ but Outriders could breach through them, admittedly for short periods of time and in very small areas and got cut in half, but they still broke through.
I mean, it took the drop pod falling onto it...but I don't think that's comparable to the Jericho Missile.
Additionally, they was a pretty short timespan between the drop pods landing on Earth and them reaching and breaching the Wakandan defences.
Also, even if Jericho Missiles were still being made, I doubt Wakandans would have any - and it's not going to be flying intercontinental distances.

@@wroughtiron6031 I Mean, Wakanda is stronger than the US Army at this point, they got bullet proof armor, spears that fire some sort of energy, and tank-proof hovercraft, and energy shields that can block people, bullets, and basically anything you can throw at it, the US Army does have more in numbers, so they can overwhelm Wakanda if they push that advantage. Honestly I don't know why Wakanda didn't use their actual air force though, they have the strongest and fast aircraft in the world in the comics.

Actually I think lasers wouldn’t be very good against heavily armored tanks. Plasma weapons maybe but lasers are just concentrated light rays, good against flesh but not thick plates of steel and ceramic composite armor.

@Alex Meggoe Technologically advanced. As seen, their doctrines were incredibly outdated and far behind the rest of the world.
@Alex Meggoe Military Doctrine. The way they fight battles is centuries behind the times. I won't fault them on not putting up fortifications, there was no time, but they're running into melee combat against a numerically superior enemy. They created a kill zone just to negate the biggest advantage they would get from it by not using ranged weapons. Warhawk demonstrates exactly why you'd want guns for this, as he slaughters numerous enemies at no threat to himself by firing at the chokepoint.
They also didn't deploy the air force. This was mentioned in the video, but air support is very helpful. Also no artillery bombardment on the kill zone.
@Alex Meggoe I agree, sure If I want to watch a movie I want to see the good guys win, but where's the fun in seeing them devastate the enemy outright. What they did in the movie was really only for the cinimatic effect. People would likely be bored just seeing a crushing victory with little struggle. As far as the "outdated" weapons I remember that while Wakanda does have the technology, it was made clear in black panther that they far prefer not to use that technology for war and the weapons are definitely created out of the tradition of their culture than efficiency. While still far more advanced than the outside world the weapons were created to preserve their traditional look.
@@austinramos7036 I think seeing that there were enough enemies to even pile through all that stuff would have just drove home how many troops they had and were willing to sacrifice. Could you imagine how sick that would look? Piles and piles and piles of them, all of the heroes decimating columns and columns and the enemy STILL pushing them back.

Dillon Brunschon because Ghandi’s aggression is already at 1, and at a certain point, it goes down by -2, but since its computer generated, it goes from 1-256, and the game turns Ghandi’s aggression from a level of 1/10 to 255/10. The developers kept it ever since their first game because they found it humorous.

I know right the walking is devoid of any real tactics. I remember watching one episode where a group of kingdom fighters were walking all bunched up together and I said to my gf that theyre too close and can easily get mowed down and of course thats exactly what happened
To be fair the walking dead is untrained people trying to survive, if they were too tactical it would be unrealistic, though over time you would expect an improvement

That battle was something that's been bothering me for a while. The biggest thing for me was that they declared a charge instead of taking advantage of their range weapons.

@Laltluangliana Sailop Remember underestimating your enemy is a quick way to get defeated that's how the British lost to the Zulus and the Germans lost to the USSR. Remember overkill isn't a bad thing, keep a mind on logistics and keep your plan flexible so you can adapt to your enemy's actions so that you can deliver that devastating blow upon your enemy.

In addition to charging the enemy instead of fighting from a distance, there's the fact that the Wakandans didn't hold their ranks and form a phalanx using their energy shields. If they'd done that and, as you said, deployed themselves to create a kill zone, the outriders would've been hard pressed to get past their lines, especially with energy bolts raining down on them.
I also don't see why they didn't use their Air force to contantly harass the enemies... a few well placed missiles could've won the battle

One comment with your point about the F-4 in Vietnam. The F-4 was never designed as a fighter, it was designed as an interceptor. It’s job was to use its massive engines to quickly intercept Russian bombers far away from American shores, launch its missiles, destroy the bombers, and go home to do it again. Additionally, the low K:D ratio was more likely due to poor training than subpar equipment, and new pilot training standards introduced later in the war increased the American Kill to Loss ratio significantly.

The real question is, how the heck did Corvus Glaive entered Wakanda without being noticed by a single person in the battlefield and then got into the facility where Vision is located (You'd think they must be advanced enough to have a surveillance camera somewhere, but nope)
Well he is an assassin one of the best and I’m pretty sure in a situation like that all attention would but either on vision or the battle

This battle really bothered me for a multitude of reasons, some of which you addressed.
The strategy for a Wakandan victory seemed so obvious and simple: It is revealed that the Wakandan barrier can be partially opened up in sectors. Why not open up a small section of the barrier, let the Outriders pour into said small opening, and concentrate your firepower on that small opening. This would inflict mass casualties whilst simultaneously keeping valuable Wakandan fighters a safe distance. The Outriders are probably not intelligent enough to realize the trap they are walking into nor seek another path to take as I’m sure they would rather charge head first if an opening already exists.

If you can just open small sections, the wakandans should've opened some of those up, and stopped the onslaught using area denial weapons like machine guns.

I was suprised that such a protectionist culture did not have sentry turrets. Also could have used their transports as mobile weapon platforms. I was also dissapointed in Thanos' lame army. If the melee only fighters were cannon fodder to test the enemy;then good. But only them?

This wasn't his true army, they were probably to far away to assemble on quick notice. These things probably don't need a lot of food and breed like roaches, so this was by far the cheapest and quickest method to just completely overwhelm Wakanda. Remember these were the black orders army, and they are more of a scout group looking for the stones so they need to pack light when it comes to military power.
@@1234falconDLThanos had four main henchmen; and they managed to get to Wakanda with their ship, and on the ship of Thanos' top lieutenants were melee only cannon fodder? There is packing light and then there is packing nothing at all. Scouts don't go out with just knives cause its lighter.
Lol the Outriders were honestly badass they were strong individuals and in packs they could overpower the Hulkbuster.... the fricking suit that beat up Hulk! And may I mention that this is an UPGRADED version? If thats lame then the Avengers must be. And Thanos also has the Chitauri.

The only issue I have with this video is your comment about the f-4. You said that the USAF was so confident in the f-4 that they didn’t add guns to the jet because they wanted to focus on long range missile technology. I would like to point out a few things.
1. The f-4 was designed as an interceptor and not a fighter and thus was not given a gun like other interceptors of the day such as the mig-25.
2. Because the f-4 was designed as a naval base interceptor, its role revolved around bvr combat and thus was primarily armed with missiles and bombs and not a Gatling gun.
3. Because of points #1&2 I would say it isn’t fair to argue that the USAF had high loss rates because they focused on advanced missile technology, instead I would say that due to poor crew training and maintenance of the weapon systems the crews of the f-4 had a difficult time fighting older generation jets designed for dog fights and not long range engagements.in-fact, when the navy issued top gun training the navy k/d ratio went from 1 loss for every 3 killed to 1 loss for every 13 killed. The stats you mentioned are dated to early War engagements and changed significantly with the navy. The USAF kill to death ratio however did not improve because they did not have such a program.

You would be sacrificing tens of thousands of troops and a multitude of those wheel things on the off chance that they could get maybe 1 or two of their ships in through the shield. This would've drastically reduced their overall fighting power rather than making it harder to defend Wakanda. Especially since the heroes would be able to adapt accordingly to the situation and remain in the capital rather than setting up inside the border relative to the enemy's position.

T'Challa probably literally never enter modern combat. His knowledge stems from ambush tactics and charging solo headfirst into battle because of the supposedly invincibility of his suit so it makes sense his sense of tactic is complete dogwater. There is no defending the others though, especially Rhodes and Sam, 2 people that specialize in air combat and superiority

Great analysis and explanation for why the Wakandans choose to fight in the way they did.
I do feel the one missed strategic opportunity was for them to create the kill box when the shield was opened instead of charging straight in. IMO this would've better showcased the strength and intelligence of Wakanda and given that battle a more chess-like feel as the giant wheels of death would've been the response to the kill box. The ensuing chaos would force the Wakandans to fight hand to hand so the studio gets its big CGI battle and the complete breakdown of the Wakandan strategy still gives Thor his badass entrance to the battle.
Yeah I mean they essentially had to choke-point to trap them in. They could have easily exploited their enemies intelligence, but I guess Wakanda is easily just as dumb.

What I took from that scene was that the shield had to be opened fast - they didn't have time to redeploy for a new kill box, and their original position was too far back to stem the tide.

Another good call they could’ve made (Rhodes is particularly guilty of this) would’ve been to lay out the napalm prior to opening the barrier. That would’ve killed or significantly weakened massive amounts of the outriders as they came through, since they likely would’ve ran straight through the fire
I like how you went into detail on all the real-life inspirations for Wakanda's weapons. It helped show much the MCU did its research on African culture instead of just cutting and pasting generic pre gunpowder weapons. That said "it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if these drop ships landed directly on the shield" is a dumb thing to bring up right before showing one land on the shield.
I have also felt since I watched Black Panther that Wakanda's weapon design was the result of their isolation meaning they never had to prepare for a real war.

being trained as a machine gunner in the marine corp i was honestly so frustrated watching that fight pan out the way it did....
had they implemented C-wire (barb wire) to the front to slow the advance of the outriders then using a few heavy machine guns situated in a cone shape to direct all the fire to that opening ot kill space i feel that they could have destroyed their advance with minium casualties. large forces have a hard time overwhelming a solid machine gun position.

The USAF was handed the F-4 from the USN with no cannon. To be fair, the USAF eventually had their Phantoms built with an internal M-61. The USN Phantoms never did. Cannons were missing on Navy fighters after the F-8 Crusader and returned in the F-14 Tomcat.
Pilot training was lacking as well. The USAF at one point rotated bomber and transport pilots into fighter cockpits, despite being I'll sorted to that role. They fixed that mistake after the war.

Especially when they are mele focused, ppl seem to forget that bullet have kinetic energy if you shower a place with bullet no one is running trough there, even if the bullet dont penetrate the kinetic energy will.

Outriders would likely possess a serious psychological and physiological advantage against most world armies. The Wakandans with their brass balls are prepared to engage the enemy in melee. No mean feat. The trade-off is that a society whose warriors happily go balls-to-the-walls ungabunga against a superior opponent will likely ALSO build their doctrine and armories around that character, even if they have hyperadvanced tech. A society whose armies are dead shooty won't be dead 'ard. A maxim gun won't do jack shit if the guy pulling the trigger is running away. Even disciplined soldiers with superior weaponry can be overwhelmed by sufficient numbers of fast-moving light cavalry like the Outriders essentially are (relying primarily upon body mass, fear, and velocity to deal damage over skill at arms).
The Wakandan is like the French military of WW2. Great, brave soldiers, but incompetent leaders stuck in the past.

This video was an excellent analysis. Having been in a historical recreation group thst focused predominantly on the Middle Ages I tend to tear apart period films. So I understand where you're coming from.
I understand that for plot's sake this didn't turn full world war but the proud people of Wakanda probably woulda been humbled by the U.S. and Russia. It was a cool fight scene but they also screwed themselves

Real world US and Russia shits in them for sure, they fight like, well, not complete idiots. MCU Russia and US? Hell no. They're fight as idiotically as Wakanda does because comic book movies make all military and police completely and utterly incompetent. Comics Wakanda though is complete bullshit. They would stomp IRL US and Russia, and the entire MCU Earth simultaneously with trivial ease. They'd also stomp MCU Thanos's army.

from what I remember from watching that movie, they had no air support, no heavy shock troops, no armor or artillery. Aside the nuke launchers and the standard issue rifle, they died like flies.

Wakanda has the tech to defend against everything we saw in the battle. I fault the directors for not showing more. Still loved the movie, but I noticed that their military was watered down.
Actually this breakdown to me suggests the flaws in Wakandas ideology, and ultimately why the wakandans and avengers lost the battle.
@@mojowasabi8823 how so? In the Black Panther movie Killmonger was sending weapons all over the globe. They had more than just sonic spears and shields. Plus, in Infinity War we saw zero Wakandan air defense, which we know they have also. That's why I say watered down.
Bring in some A-10s to deal with those outriders, there would be no drop ships left before the outriders could even disembark.

Another strategic mistake I think they made was leaving the shield gap open constantly. By flickering it on and off, and preferably varying exactly which part of the shield was dropped, they could have greatly increased the number of kills the shield itself got.
My main question was “where’s the air support?” Since the previous movie established that Wakanda has some pretty advanced aircraft

Yea I feel like the showing of wakanda as the battlefield was just a plot device. As the most technological warrior clan nation in the world and given the known tech, they should not have been able to fully penetrate the city. Where are their hover jets, they rode in on a nice lil ship they shoulda stayed on it shooting. they don’t have like huge cannons mounted idk anywhere for defensive purposes. The only thing fortifying the land is a force field... come on! Hell when watching I was thinking if they divert power to the shield and make it thicker but lower it’s power by 10-20% they could get more of those monsters to burn themselves up on entry. Don’t just let them in, but they did..

The energy sheild was the most valuable weapon, and they didn't use it. Just turn parts of it on and off really really fast. Effectively chewing through the enemy forces.

It’s funny cause when I first watched the battle, I also was confused by the fact that they charged the enemy after allowing them to funnel in. In that situation offense was not the best defense, especially when the numbers weren’t in wakandas hands. They should’ve picked off as much troops as they could from a distance until they got close enough where melee fights couldn’t be avoided.
Or i dont know mine the whole field outside the shield and use artillery? or airforce? anything would be better than the pew pew lances that are not even automatic.

I don't know man, while he did use a outside historical fact relevant to the essay question thus getting the point for that, he didn't use at-least 6 documents that support an
argument in response to the prompt nor did I really see him use the content of at least three documents to address the topic of the prompt. Although he does get the point for contextualization. He also failed to get a point for using at least three documents, explaining how or why the document’s point of view, purpose, historical situation, and/or
audience is relevant to an argument, but he does get a point for demonstrating a complex
understanding of the historical development that is the focus of the prompt. I am not too sure of whether or not he got the point for his thesis but I think his thesis was placed at the end of the essay so I will be nice and give him that point. This totals to a 4/7

Wakanda came out at the end of black pabther. Correction aside great video I enjoy the attention to detail.
The F-4 Phantom started as a Navy interceptor. The Navy retrained their pilots with the Top Gun program after seeing their kill ratio drop to 3:1, resulting in as much as a 12:1 kill ratio. The USAF added tech to their Phantoms but didn't address pilot training resulting in a drop in kill ratio to as low as 1:1. They would start Red Flag after the war in response.
Thank god someone said it, we really don't need more of these shitty myths being thrown around.
So according to you, the best plan after meeting the enemy is to about face, go back to base, let them melt the majority of their forces on the forcefield, and wait for them to arrive with diminished numbers.
