What a beautiful well conceived machine! I loved the drilled observation holes drilled in that race hood. Great job showing us the features and the few drawbacks, John😀
John. Sorry about the lingering fatigue. This treatment of the Alpha 7 is very informative... Though, truth be told, it will probably keep me from buying one. The race hood visibility concerns would keep me from using it in traffic. Thanks for the excellent review.
The elastomers quite possibly make the trike faster despite feeling slower. A trike without suspension will transfer all the bumps into the rider and it will feel fast. Having the elastomers reduces the unsprung weight and means that the tyres won't need to comply to the surface of the road as much. I'd actually like to see what effect there is with a fixed wattage riding a road course with compliant elastomers versus rigid.
I hope that people can use these vehicles with the hood being on all the time. There’s the idea I’ve had of adding ram intakes which will self feed air to ventilate the rider, and could be channeled to come out the rear. With something like that solved it’s possible then to just turn the hood into a bubble canopy of sorts.
Unfortunately in most of the USA a fully faired recumbent would boil the rider alive. 37°c in Texas for three months a year I love being protected from rain but open air is really heavy only feasible ride
as always team Vel-ads, very informative, well filmed and the Alpha 7 looks great and well made, one thing from my point of view I have long legs and there does not seem to be a lot of width in the leg area so its something you would have to adapt your riding style to and not spread your knees, thanks for sharing the vid great work, take care, stay safe all of you.
I have still my doubt about the elastomeer. Does the charistics not change with the temperture? And durability? They do break at some point. Is there allready some data about it?
Great review, John. A fantastic machine, and the colours set it off beautifully! I still think the extra wheel on a QV and the added stability it gives would be a big factor for me, though. Also nice to see SOME advantages to being a "Short-Arse" LOL :-). I wonder if water would run in through the 'vent' slits of the Race-Hood in the rain?
Bonjour, merci pour ton excellente vidéo, je voulais savoir si tu roulais toujours avec l’alpha 7 et j’avais des questions à poser par rapport à la maintenance, notamment les suspensions. Est-ce que tu pourrais m’aider ?
Is it possible to store the hood in any velomobile? So that when it's sunny you can remove it, and when it rains, you can put it on. I live in a place where it rains many times a day.
I don't know, compared to other velo controls, those shorty grip shifters seem too short. It seems like SOME amount of handgrip rest would be practical, despite the horror of "adding grams".😉
Hey John huge fan of yours! Greetings from the USA! In your opinion is the alpha 7, #2 to the Milan? Im.looking for fast! Any information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated
I do wonder how more day-to day features can be put into one of these cause so far apart from the Quattro none of these can really have stuff put into them apart from the rider. Also even thought the lights are nice and bright they're still tiny compared to even bike lights, where I think you can design quite nice DRLs into the shell of these like massive strips from cars with diffusers for the lights. That way its an entire light instead of just having to little blips that people might actually miss (you know how many idiots get through the driving tests)
As for not enough "lateral visibility"; as you point out, it's a race hood, not a travel hood #1, and #2, as a defensive driving rider, it's up to you to look ahead, and stop earlier in order to see your cross traffic. imo. I do see the race hood, likely any race hood, if you're going to use this as a commuter at night, you likely would need to ride top less to be safe in the low light surroundings, ie, suburbs or non-urban conditions. I would expect....
I'm 1.83 m and I fit in a Quest XS with the seat on the floor. Riding was a bit difficult but possible. If Daniel fits in a DF-XL why coun't you fit the Snoek? Hahaha
Can you really hurdle over speed bumps? I don't want to see you prove it, but that's interesting to hear. This velo looks to be next gen. Super pumped things continue to evolve. John, can you comment on what tiller steering is like compared to tank steering in velos and compared to direct and indirect steering on a tadpole recumbent. Is tiller less frenetic and more planted? Has anyone tried/used steering dampers like we see on motorcycles (used there to prevent tankslappers from speed wobble).
I have used tiller and tank steering and prefer tiller as for me it feels more intuitive at speed and I can brake both front wheels at the same time with equal pressure with tiller steering.
I got tiller because with tank steering I noticed my elbows were slightly behind my body, which is TERRIBLE for rotator cuff injuries/shoulder health in general, especially for extended periods of time. I was told it might've been the configuration of the velomobile I test drove, so it might be possible to have 'healthy' tank, but make sure to check it in person if you are ordering with tank. I had a gekko fx trike before with tank though and it was fine. So who knows.
Well, duh.. Of course is the best.. Thanks John for the review. It's a sweet machine. I wish people bought them more and stopped drooling over silly SUVs just to move from A to B
Hi Velo-ads - Do you know how to contact velomobile.nl? For about 2-3 weeks ago I ask some questions how to order a quatro velo, but I havent heard from them. Not that you should do support for them :-) You have any clue from your experience with them if they reply fast or it can take weeks. We are still facing the Corona crisis, so they can be lowmanned. The questions i ask them is - because their website, gosh need an update - Maybe you can ask those. 1) How to order one, like a shop function. Select this velo and these extra assesories 2) How is the payment going to be. Money up front or cash on delivery. Thnx in advance, I follow you and Saukki for quite long time, keep up the good work mate.
uh ... gawd your video it's making me nauseous because of the movement. Had to stop watching. Too much camera movement Megabattie did the same thing a few times. Nice Velos
I saw this and an orange version crossing the main road from Greenwich Park top gates to where you filmed! They both looked AMAZING!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What a beautiful well conceived machine! I loved the drilled observation holes drilled in that race hood. Great job showing us the features and the few drawbacks, John😀
Thanks Gary.
I found your channel on Saturday and thought, these are ridiculous. By late Sunday I have rationalized the price 🤣

This is a super awesome idea and I love the concept! I can’t wait to see where this goes in the future

That is super nice. I dream of a time when human power outnumbers cars on the road.

@@topsecret1837 you could add fans like the ones used on the case of a PC to keep good air flow at slow speeds.

Stockholm, i saw 5000 bikes and 2 cars
China! India!! Etc
You always have very listenable and watchable episodes Veloads!
That green is beautiful.
love the content. you will fit in the snoek for sure. will be looking for that vid

Can't wait to see your review of the Alpha 9 and M9
the motorcycle visor should allow you to use pin-lock anti fogging inserts. That will be a big benefit.

Excelent review. Very nice looking machine.
Can’t wait your Snoek review. If you can fit in it, then I guess I should fit in there too 😄
What an utterly beautiful thing! I shudder to think how much something like this would cost!
Like the snoek it is shorter in the tail than the Milan, and this is in my opinion the difference in speed.
Wouldn't a small air shock be better all round than elastomers .?
Happy new year John..
From Malaysia.
Why don't they use a belt in these instead of a chain? Wouldn't that reduce the noise?
Incorporated a motorcycle helmet visor into the hood makes sense but was wondering how you were gonna close it from inside hehe 😉👍

Great Vid. Want to see the Snoek review. Love your channel.
1:23 Is that a onepiece suit specially for recumbent riding? What is it called, where can I get one?
It is a beautiful thing indeed!
Still don't understand why it doesn't have side windows.
Yes it is. Im particular with some end modification like Sven from velomobil-nord do (1x12, light sl af, daniel fenn idler, bugbox....)
Still searching for an orca all others are narrow to get in
These are so cool I want one! Has anyone modded one to have a hinged opening side door to make access easier? Cheers
Why a battery? How come you can't charge it peddling?

How does it compare to the Katanga WAW?

If your looking for out an out speed the milan probably clinches it.But then thats also dependant on the terrain.
Are there places in colorado to test these out?

Long time no see Jon. With a nice green speed machine!
You sold it to me with those carbon fiber hooks to keep the top on,...
Magnífico ,uma.pena esses equipamentos não virem pro Brazil 😕
Visor ratchet is wisely lifted from proven motorcycle visor use. Brilliant!
Sooo nice! Thanks for the video

Motorcycle dampers have been used with the QV rear suspension to improve its handling but they don’t come as standard.
@@andrewallen9918 actually, I was referring to this, used to cancel steering oscillation: th-cam.com/video/L9AgZ35Ahoo/w-d-xo.html
Nice green.
As a little kid seeing these back in the 90s I thought these were aliens from outer space, I grew up in a small town, I'd trade my car for one.
On a bike now, I sold car, I can get around decent on it, I just do short commuting.
15:58 The schnoock :P
Coooool
Very beautifull ! I would be afraid of scratching him! :)
Audi Java Green Metallic? Like Andrew Allen's QV choice? My current favorite, John.
Yep
Can they all tow ?
Which velomobile is the best? Love your content by the way 😀
I still don't know, that's why I have a few :🙂
cant wait for one on after 7.
The next one has to be an 11. Natch.
How many?
The pike is the same dimensions except it is 10 cm less height. Same weight too. Alpha 7 seems superior in every way, likely faster as well.
Well, duh.. Of course is the best..
Thanks John for the review. It's a sweet machine.

Looks like a cool machine, We will probably never see it in the USA. : (
Bicycle Evolution Texas sell them also.
Probably great for anyone around 5ft. tall.
The Carbon Fiber Hooks are replaced with Hooks made of plastic.
They are in stock and free of charge available. Mail me info@velomobile-nord.de
That is pretty...
Why was he wearing a helmet in a bicycle car?
Cool but at 10,000 euros..... 🚲 😁
