    The best saukki video in a long time... The thrilling emotional tale of a first ride in the qv. SO many ups and downs. Saukki masterfully discussed the headlight subplot and how it relates to establishing dominance both on the road and in the velonaut community by buying the qv. The everlasting dipping sauce for that niche "custom" feel that you just can't get elsewhere. Perhaps you should name it orange marinade since any meat you put in the trunk will gather garlic scent!

    So, I was waiting for your feedback for month! I am in line for a quattrovelo, deciding on options. Hard choices. To sum up your first ride:
    More confortable than Quest
    More noisy than Quest bwcause of the Drivetrain
    More Safer!
    Feels slow on winter, but this is normal I guess. Your have quite extreme winter !
    Thank you! I hope you rest well will make many more videos about your QV.

    You have my sympathies. Garlic sauce... Still, it could have been worse. My fifth outing with my new recumbent trike this year, someone backed onto the street in front of me on my way to church, I tried to steer left and brake at the same time, bent a wheel rim and flipped myself and my trike lengthwise in front of two on-duty police officers in front of the local police detachment and was given a ride home because I could not walk and my trike could not roll. It cost almost CAN$300.00 and ten days to get it fixed and I could not ride it because I broke a rib, sprained my ankle and tore my shoulder when I landed. Really wouldnˋt have minded a bit of garlic sauce, all things considered. Congratulations on your new Quattrovelo! Merry Christmas!

    Its nice that you dont have to take the hood off.. just raise it on the hinges👍😏

  • @AlveHenricson
    @AlveHenricson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To get rid of some noise I did cover bottom under seat, pocket sides and rear part with some kind of 5 mm insulation (syllisolering in Swedish). This material is also protecting the carbon fibre if you have metals in the pockets, etc.
    I did also cut 12 mm insulation mat to fit inside the hood. It takes away some noise and converts the hood into a helmet.
    The 360 tires are very, very slow …
    The cover for foot holes is a pain to mount because they should have “nut rivets” installed (Mutternit). After mounting the “nut rivets” it is very easy ( www.biltema.se/verktyg/handverktyg/nitverktyg/nittanger/mutternitsats-2000016802 ). But I do recommend not to mount nuts in the front. Better to use Velcro in the front so that you can stick in your hand there when lifting the velomobile.
    Make 8 or 10 mm holes in the bottom at the back and under your seat and plug with rubber plugs that you can get at Mekonomen or similar car parts dealer (example: www.biltema.se/bygg/elinstallationer/monteringsdetaljer/kabelgenomforing-10-pack-2000021896 ).

    Congrats on your new rike Saukki!
    This would have been my #1 velo had they made a XS version of it, the four-wheeler combined with that storage definitely makes for one truly remarkable touring, all-around velomobile. Not a speedbeast by any means, though perfect for those Scandinavian winters.
    I had those very same Marathon GT 365 tires on my previous Hilgo, though the ride felt pretty safe on snow/mud/wet/ice surfaces, I just felt these where far too slow in dry surfaces, so got rid of them.

  • @coniow
    @coniow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    And my first thought on hearing: "Going to collect Pizza in the QV" was: Ooopps! Going to smell of Pizza for ever more!. . . . .
    And my second thought: You are going to feel HUNGRY every time you get in it from now on :-).
    Third thought: 05:55 Ohhh Dear. . . . . . . . . .
    Suggestion: Spray a dilute solution of Surgical Spirit over the area, and let it dry, to kill the active bacteria, then spray a second time, and wipe clean. A few more wipes with Flash should clear and cover the smell. It works with cat-piss, so it should work with garlic sauce.
    If your work mates keep giving you funny looks, and cats keep following you around looking hopeful, at least you will know why ! :-))).

    • @DalbyJoakim
      @DalbyJoakim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have lined my QV hood with a 6mm light self-adhesive sound panel. That is really helpful against noise. The floor mats do keep stuff steady but I keep the pump in the right side storage where it does not rattle at all now. Finally, lowerering the tire pressure eliminates most noise. I still hear chain rattle at low gears though, so it would be super to find a solution to that!

    Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
    Oh, you are lucky that it only was a tiny box of garlic dip... A friend of mine had a 5 liter oil kanister in his car trunk which tipped over an the cap went lose...
    That was a pretty big mess! The oil ran through the car unto the front driver seat. But before the foam of the rear bench seat sucked in a lot and got runined.
    The car had a nice oli smell for years... It was difficult to get some litter to suck the oil from the parking place. We did not want to get in trouble because of
    environment pollution.
    Could you please make a video about winter cloth in a velomobile? What temperature difference does closing the foot-holes make?
    I really do not know what to wear a.t.m. where it is about 0°. I really sweat in autumn like hell. My QV is in sharing a garage some kilometers
    away and that's why I can not just try out different cloth atm.
    A hint would be nice.
    Regards.

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 0°C I would wear a long sleeve shirt ( I use just an undershirt) and long running pants. No more, because it’s more than 10°C warmer in the velomobile than outside, if the footholes are closed. Then I have winter cycling shoes, because my toes are the first part which starts to feel cold. And there is some cold air coming through the headlight holes.
      Then I have a warm beanie and some kind of neck warmer. There seems to be cold air flow towards my neck in the Quattrovelo.
      Carry some extra clothes with you in case you have to stop to fix a tyre etc.

    • @Room-180
      @Room-180 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheVelomobileChannel Than you for the info. Then I can try my autumn cloth.
      Maybe you can prevent the cold airflow in your neck by using the front windshield. I have
      experienced that there is a strong flow of air in the middle of the Quattrovello between the bulges.
      Looks like they are acting as a wind tunnel and the airflow goes right into my face. I have the
      open hood which, of course, can't provide a visor for my face. Using a front windshield
      does make a big difference for me.

    • @coniow
      @coniow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup!, and when it goes dead, everything goes black very quickly! Usually in the worst place possible. I have added a separate 'helmet' light fitted on top of the hood, so if, (should that be when?) the lights go out, I still have a flashing rear light for cars to see. Good idea to keep a small torch in the cockpit so you can see to change battery cables. (And the speedometer, it gets dark in there with the cover on!)

      He should have bought ice cream instead. My problem is getting the ice cream home before it melts in 40+ C summer days. But I CAN keep a pizza hot. PS I use real fresh garlic too which doesn't make a mess.

      As a fellow QV rider: I don't think so. A QV is very quiet when you don't pedal. In Saukki's case he first has to clean up the trunk like he said himself. Then grease the new chain. Then it's all good.

      Suprisingly the visor doesn't fog so badly. Maybe it's because the visor is still new and it will get worse over time. I don't know yet, but I'll let you know in the future videos.

    Yepp, the back end of my quattrovelo feels weird too. i think it's because of the Panhard rod used to stabilise the live axle. Something like a Watt's linkage would be better, but more likely to break too.
    Have you found the right length for your chain? I find the QV is quite loud in the first 2 gears because the chain rubs against the chain guide. Making the chain a bit shorter would solve this, but then it would rub against the guide in the top gears.

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I found the right lenght, but not sure yet. I need to take a closer look to the chain routing and see if something is rubbing.
