Another thing to note is that those originals did more by doing less, its not about quantity but quality and efficiency, i honestly think people like to overcomplicate things in their films, everyone's thinking about the big picture and how many stuff they could fit in their films instead of just showing whats important for the story/plot, james cameron once said that you dont need to show the audience something twice you could just tell them something once and they will get the point, i dont consider this lazy i consider this affective, its one thing to work hard and it's another thing to wark hard just and make things more difficult than they need to be

*Concerning the "Psycho" remake:* The value of a shot-for-shot remake is in what we can learn from it, rather than how good it is. In this case, this was the first time I *really* realized the impact of different performances in the exact same character roles. It showed that even with the same story, music, and cinematography, different actors' performances can drastically change the movie.

Remakes have been going on almost as long as cinema. John Carpenter's The Thing was a remake. The 70s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is awesome, so isn't The Blob. The real thing about remakes is that the originals don't cease to exist because of them, in fact remakes will often bring attention to the originals. I'll seek out the original version if I discover that a movie I liked is a remake.

@@Gregbaltzer ask king Kong how many times he's been remade lol. Yeah I feel that it's just we have more remakes than original ideas for movies nowadays so when your deciding to go to the movies for a flick, you can just as easily go to Netflix or Hulu and watch a similar or same movie but older but it's included in the subscription and better. Makes the theater absolute as they are finding out now. I've caught myself wanting to go to the movies but talking myself out of it every time besides Kong vs Godzilla because of the upgrades to it. Other than that, I stay home and it's not cause of covid.

I didn't like Peter Jackson's version...it just got too silly in parts. I've never been big Godzilla fan because there's never been a good Godzilla movie, that I'm aware of having not seen them all. Godzilla 2000 was probably the one I enjoyed the most. I didn't care for Skull Island, it was just average. And I have no interest in King Kong vs Godzilla because I have no interest in watching two CGI monsters fight each other in slow motion.

Honestly, I’m still confused why it’s such an issue. The remake has plenty to complain about. I don’t really get people losing it over that particular non-change.

The movie is not good, don't get me wrong, but I've always felt it gets more hate than it deserves. Bad CGI? Sure. At least Jackie Earl Halie is a redeeming quality. And I agree: a lot of people think about Freddy as the goofy guy but the first movie was trying to be creepy and unsettling (like The Evil Dead remake not being campy because the first one wasn't). Is it bad? Sure. the CGI is horrid. But The Thing, Martyrs, and the Grudge 2020 all exist in our universe and are much worse (unsure if this review was out before The Grudge 2020).

I've seen remakes less subtle and in worse ways that that remake was, I still don't like this remake but them being straight up honest with Freddy like that wasn't why...it was more the effects and the obviousness that none of the main actors really gave a crap about being in it.

It's a shame too because he's obviously a huge genre fan, but on a fundamental level, the things that someone like me likes/dislikes about horror/slasher films are mismatched with the things that someone like him likes or dislikes. No atmosphere, no tension, just a tedious barrage of sadism from uninteresting, unlikeable characters.

The original The Fog is one of my all time favorite films. It had some problems, sure, but it's nowhere bad as Carpenter himself makes it out to be (he's not fond of the movie). The remake, on the other hand...I want to vomit just thinking about it. The Elm Street remake is a guilty pleasure of mine, as it was the first Elm Street movie I saw and it introduced me to the original franchise.

I can agree with Cody's feelings about the "Nightmare" and "Prom Night" remakes, especially "Prom Night". I hated that they tried to use the "Prom Night" name just to tell their own story. If they had been more original and given it a different name instead of marketing it as a remake, I probably would've enjoyed it just a bit more. I much prefer Jamie Lee Curtis' original version.

My 11 WORST Horror Remakes would be:
    11. Quarantine (American remake of REC)
    10. Black Christmas 2019 (I actually have grown somewhat of an appreciation for the Black X Mas 2006 thanks to THAT 2019 travesty)
    9. Prom Night 2008 (PG-13 SLASHERS NEVER WORK IDIOTS AT HOLLYWOOD)
    8. Poltergeist 2015 (Saw this movie in theatres and man I remember stomping out pissed, thankfully I went and saw Mad Max Fury Road a few days after)
    7. When A Stranger Calls 2006 (Same as Prom Night 2008, a PG-13 shit fest)
    6. The Omen 2006 (a shot for shot rehash of the 1976 masterpiece from the director of Max Payne and the WORST Die Hard Movie 'A Good Day To Die Hard")
    5. The Fog 2005 (TOTAL DISGRACE)
    4. A Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 (Easily the worst slasher movie ever created in history and insult to Wes Craven's best work)
    3. Cabin Fever 2016 (The original film wasn't really a masterpiece but is a pretty guilty pleasure and not really meant to be one AT LEAST. The 2016 remake is so pointless, and was not even needed I mean Cabin Fever isn't even that old)
    2. The Wicker Man 2006 (NO NOT THE BEES, NOT THE BEES< AAAAAH!!!! My eyes, My eyes!!!! AAAAAAH!!!! Better to watch as an unintentional comedy than a horror film.)
    1. PSYCHO 1998 (Hands Down the #1 WORST Horror REMAKE in history)
    Dishonourable mentions
    Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007)
    The Vanishing 1993
    The Thing 2011
    The Hitcher 2007
    The Eye 2008
What do you think of my list?

I don’t like the remake of Carrie. It looks well-made, the performances are quite good (Julianne Moore, especially. I think she was terrifying as Margaret White), but again nothing was changed from the OG. I don’t buy Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie either, she’s too conventionally pretty. She would’ve been a regulation hottie by default in real life, not an outcast. Sissy Spacek was pretty too, but not in the traditional all-American girl way Chloe is. Carrie is a story dear to my heart and very personal to me. Having someone with modelesque looks play the “ugly girl” really rubs me the wrong way for a number of reasons.

Even though the film made both men and women look bad since the sorority girls were misandrists who hated all men because of what the frat boys did. And when one guy tried to talk sense into them and say that not all men were like the frat boys they accused him of making excuses and threw him out leaving him to die. And even though the main girl didn't want to reveal her rape Kris, the extreme feminist who was the most unlikable character in the film made her do it anyway. Then there was the weird black goo from a statue that was making the frat boys sexist so they weren't even doing it of their own free will. Since it was PG-13 they also kept cutting away from kill scenes before they happened.

For a long time, I had no idea prom night was a remake. I remember watching it in the theater and being on the edge of my seat the whole time. One remake however I did not enjoy that much was my bloody valentine, I only saw it cuz of Jensen Ackles. And yeah, a nightmare on elm street could’ve been done a lot better. The only thing I liked about that movie was Jackie Earle Haley. Can’t wait to see your next video!

The prom night remake has literally nothing in common with the original, it’s almost as if the people who made the movie had no idea the original even existed

I think I know two people who would like the "Black Christmas" 2019 "remake"
    Kathleen Kennedy and Brie Larson.

As a teenager, I was infuriated that the remakes The Fog, When a Stranger Calls, and PROM NIGHT got my money. At 15 years old, I finally realized that Hollywood was pissing on old properties just to profit. Halloween 2007 and Friday the 13th weren’t *AS* bad and had redeeming qualities, but 2 decent films out of an entire decade of poor remakes is awful.

    • @EnchantedTooWell
      @EnchantedTooWell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There are a few seriously good remakes out there though. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn Of The Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, Evil Dead, Friday The 13th

@@EnchantedTooWell Those are all Rated R. I was angry that PG-13 slashers were so poorly constructed and were presented as scarier than they were, so they could get my money at the movie.

      @EnchantedTooWell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Blast2224 that’s so true! Prom Night (2008) and Black Christmas (2019) prove that PG-13 slashers don’t work!! (With the exception of Happy Death Day)

I have some kind of morbid curiosity about Black Christmass 2019. I want to experience this movie just so I can say yes, listen to the critics, its that bad. See it on crave every day but can't make my mind.

It is funny regarding Nelson McCormick's "Prom Night (2008)", you said in your collection video that you enjoyed Nelson McCormick's successor "Stepfather (2009)". But it is indeed better received than "Prom Night (2008)". So actually it all comes together.

Yeah that Freddy coming through the wall scene just made me so disappointed. That practical effect cost Wes Craven like $3. Digital effects are more expensive, look way worse, and horror fans can spot digital blood every time.
