So, in short, these are the most demanding settings: Bounced Lighting Real-Time Reflections Volumetric Effects Quality The first two can be turned off completely, and the last one can be set to low. There is no significant visual impact, but the performance gains are quite substantial. All the other settings are either insignificant or don't matter at all. Thanks for yet another great video!
Yep, that's pretty much it. There is a thing though: these settings are not only the most demanding, but also pretty visually impacting (at least for me). I find bounced lighting as important as ambient occlusion and image based lighting because they all create a certain atmosphere. Real time reflections can be treated as ray-traced ones in a way, since they both reflect objects off-screen, and I prefer to look at real reflections instead of random mess.
@@hardware_maniac Yes, I totally get it, but most games don't have such features at all and you only notice not having them if you have the option. Real-Time reflections, for instance, are completely missing on modern games unless ray tracing is supported. So, if you really need additional 20+ FPS, you'll get used to not having them.
@@benjaminabel I agree, if you have an older card, like gtx 900/1000 series or rx 400/500 from amd, turning these settings off or sticking with low is the best choice. In my case (I have a rtx 3070), why not tinker with settings if you have some extra power? :)
@@hardware_maniac I also have 3070, but a mobile version on a laptop, so lowering graphical settings means less heat and fan noise. Also, during weather effects like rain, those settings tank performance even more. That said, this is the first game that was able to heat my CPU above 100C. I really hope they'll fix it somehow in the future.
@@benjaminabel the funny thing is I don't have any issues at all, like stuttering, bugs or high cpu usage. I believe that's because I have a pirated version (really wanted to buy this game, but in our country it's simply unavailable). Something tells me it's the same DRM related problem that denuvo has. The cpu has to deal with both game and protection workload. Another example is Hogwarts Legacy, the same thing with high cpu usage when playing steam version of the game.

I can just follow your guidelines
Yup. no need to have a shitty performing game make you feel bad about perfectly capable hardware and then have techtubers jump all over it almost as if scripted chain events.
Yeah me too, at this day and age its never worth it to buy a game day one, i just wait and follow patches and see if its fixed, for example in cyberpunk's case i waited a year and when patch 1.5 dropped is when the game became great
@@stylie473joker5 Only game I bought "day one" (kinda) was RE4 Remake, and that game optimization is fantastic, the only issues it has can be easily avoidable by not using the shitty raytracing made for consoles, the game itself has nearly 0 bugs, incredible optimization from Capcom on this dark age of gaming

This guide has helped me IMMENSELY! Thank you so much for putting this together for us, it was a bit overwhelming seeing so many options within graphics settings yet Ive never come across a game that truly needs them all more than this one. With this guide I was able to only focus on lowering the high CPU impact settings without having to go back and forth fiddling to keep the visual quality palatable. This guide has made the game so much more playable for me that I have gone from using FSR 2.0 to now running at native 1440p at 105 fps and it still looks STUNNING! Some of the more GPU compute focused settings tend to bring my 6950xt to its knees regardless of vram usage, so it’s nice to be able to keep GPU render and image quality settings high and let the CPU be a little less of the bottleneck at the same time
Amazing video. Been waiting for Digital Foundry to post something, but you did it even quicker with the same amount of quality. Thanks so much, great job.

Edit: At least they didn't curse the game with denuvo and added super-scaling technology and a lot of graphics options
Great guide. Must have taken forever. Hopefully they fix the VRAM and CPU bottlenecking, because I don't see a reason the usage should be so high given the quality of the image and what's happening onscreen.
I mean the whole point of playing this is on PC is so it looks awesome. I've played it on PS4,PS4 pro, and PS5. I got it for PC and was like what the heck is going on. Everyone!!! I finally found the solution to the stuttering and cpu problem. I know version 1.0.4 just came out but it barely changed anything for me. But what i did found to work is going to the resolution scaling and setting the rendering scale to around 160. This way you evenly spread the load on your cpu an gpu in my case (ryzen 5 3600 and rx 6650 xt). Maybe if you have a better gpu its better to set it around 200 but this completely fixed the stuttering for me. Please pin this to help the other people🙏
