I recommend you look at the bambu lab a1. Main reason I'd pick it is because a1 calibrates fully before every print and has filament tangle and run out sensor as well as flow sensor. Similar price but bambu is a well known brand now and it has so many smart features for the same price ish.

Great comparison video there, but as a total newbie, what is the answer to your title question? is this the one for me?

Do these kinds of units produce harmful smoke? I have my xtools laser in an enclosure which I built, but just wondering about these 3d printers. Is there any nasties to be worried about?

the 3d printer? na no smoke, there are some materials that can be toxic but PLA is generally fine unless you have a allergy or some sort of sensitivity to it OR you burn the filament by printing way to hot. Some people complain of a smell when they get the new printer in but its just an oil on the silicone sock around the hotend and the smell will go away after a little bit. I would only worry about needing an enclosure if youre printing with more toxic materials like ABS or nylon since these can produce whats called VOC's or volatile organic compounds. But again its all down to the material you use.

Great points from @KevinLagan, if your comparing this to something like a laser cutting then they are much safer in terms of fumes. If you doing mostly PLA then it’s not a big deal, I also do a good bit of ABS which has some fumes but you’ll also need an enclosure for that which you can then vent.

@@makeorbreakshop i should also add, if you need something more durable petg is fine to do without a enclosure as well and should be fairly safe, that is unless you have an allergy of course

This 3d printer is a huge flop! Lack of a good slicer is a big shot in the foot. There is no offline anything with the m5c which is a joke. The app is completely useless and the files on the app are very few and arent all stl files so you cant directly print 90 percent of those files.. The slicer will tell you 10 hour print and turn into 15 hour print somehow while printing. The fact that the company's on website lies about its own features should be enough to scare anyone away from buying this. And for the price, you can get many different 3d printers that utilize more types of filaments and have some sort of upgrade so your printer can do all the things you want with 10x better slicer. And the m5 is an even bigger joke with a camera that does nothing... I wouldnt recommend this to any entry-level person either because that's just predatory to suggest a bad product to someone who doesn't know any better.
