    Yours is the first review I've seen of the M5C that mentions the ability to use it offline and control it via Bluetooth. I've watched several "experts" claim it has to be connected to the internet to use it, and it's good to finally see an accurate review! You do need to connect to the internet to print from the AnkerMake slicer, which bugs me a little, but I use my M5C offline most of the time.

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, done know how others have missed that. You can export from the slicer to an SD card and print from there, but it’s not as convenient. I haven’t tried installing the SD card with multiple files on it and seeing if I can view them via Bluetooth on my phone, any idea if that works?

    I own both the m5c and that easythreeed printers. The cheap easythreeed printers are great for kids. My 9 year old is a pro with hers. I do some abs work with my m5c. I use an ender tent style enclosure that has flaps I can close for abs and open for everything else. No issues. You can add a display screen. I have it but it's only a display. Shows details such as temps and print times Also using the default Ankerslicer abs profile it only turns on the fan for bridging. Not sure why that wasn't your experience. Compared to my geeetech and creality machines the Ankermake is bulletproof. The biggest cons for me: Anker dropped the V6 color engine. That's why I bought this. I wanted multi color options to print toys for the kids. Anker does use klipper but you can't tinker in the firmware so even adding something like an enraged rabbit mmu can't be done. If you could add that this printer would be up there with the Bambu a1. Also print volume really is acceptable for general use but depending on your exact needs you might want more bed surface to work with. Also as a side note, multi color printing is cute and that's why Bambu is so popular but it's slow and very wasteful. There's so many silk pla options out there that will get you very pretty colorful results without the cost of multi material waste from those systems.
    I'll add this for the anyone interested in purchasing. When Anker pulled the plug on the V6 a ton of the m5's were just dumped second hand for cheap. You can find them on eBay cheaper than the m5c. However, they have issues with the hot end and don't seem to have the same reliability as the smaller m5c. Also on discord and Reddit almost every single person complaining about defective machines or otherwise imperfect results are almost every single time user error. Anker has revised their slicer to help avoid making simple mistakes that will result in jams, clogs and other serious failures. You will see negative comments from others about this. Not only were their issues their own fault I can tell you EXACTLY the mistake they made because I made it too once and it was a disaster requiring power tools to repair. Anker has gone a long way to correct that setting and defaults in the slicer. If you want a great printer with high end results without the high end price don't sleep on this machine. It's about as refined as a bed slinger can possibly be

      Hello!!! I hope you can somehow reply to this but I was looking at buying an Anker M5(since it’s on discount and somehow cheaper than the M5C in my country) BUT I wanted to know if it’s worth it, I am not looking at printing in different colors or anything but I would want to print with carbon fiber infused filament in the future(not a must) but are the cons of the anker fixed? since you commented 7 months ago I wanted to know if they fixed the issues and if it’s worth it for a first 3D printer?
      sorry if i typed a lot or not clearly my brain slightly doesn’t think very clearly 🥲

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @sheero8983 I’m still printing with mine, and the software and slicer updates have just made things better. The one thing to keep an eye on is the nozzles, carbon filament wears down nozzles fastener than the regular stuff. You can get harder material nozzles which does help.

    most people know printing abs without an encloser normally parts warp, also with abs you should buy some charcoal/carbon air filter/cleaners, the fumes are toxic and a carcinogenic so please add some air purifiers to your work space when working with abs.. also Nylon Polycarbonate Asa all should be printed in an enclosure (PLA PETG TPU anything else should be in an enclosure)

      I realize the need for an enclosure, but I wanted to show this thing off as if a 3d printed rookie were using it. I would have prefered the app inform the user the need for an enclosure. Im doing all my printing in a ventilated shop, you are correct that if someone was running a printer inside they need an enclosure and exhaust or filtration (Id prefer exhaust.

    My parents were christmas shopping and decided they'd buy me something too at the electronics mart they were at (they were getting a gaming console for my brother and a karaoke machine for my dad). So my brother calls me up while I'm at work and asks me "Hey, do you want a tv or a gaming console for Christmas? Which do you prefer?" "Honestly neither, I'm fine really. Tell them thanks though." "Well what electronic thing do you want? Dad wants to get you something big." "haha if I got to pick, a 3d printer, the FDM kind but I doubt they have any at that store dont worry-" "Aight bet, the guy's gonna show us some." and hung up.
    I panic-google the store they're at and this is the only printer they have available, I started getting nervous because I wasn't sure if that would be a good buy (especially at the price!) for me who would be a total noob. I've seen some reviews and know enough to know what kind of printer I want but that's about it. This video was a great review and definitely reassured me that if my family got me this after all I should be okay as a newbie (on top of being very grateful to my fam).

    Why does affordable printers have so stupidly small build area? I mean for 50 extra USD you should be able to get like 50x50x50 (cm) at least. It's just slightly more material cost to scale up the size, right?! Also, why can't they print pellets. Filament is too expensive for what you get. A scam.

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I'd love something that big I don't know how much of an actual market there would be for something of that size. The build plate would swings out past the base of the printer by quite a bit making the footprint of printer larger than most hobbyists would have room for. My larger printer (LK5 PRO) wont fit on a standard workbench, I had to build an extension for it)
      As far as pellets, I've seen some printers working with pellets recently, and they are getting better, so we'll see what the future holds.

    • @commonsense5105
      @commonsense5105 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually scaling up a machine can cause costs to go up exponentially. Same size materials used in XYZ supports start allowing too much flex, dramatically throwing off precision. Structural part sizes need to go up n size substantially, requiring bigger servo motors to move the weight, bigger power supplies to power the bigger servos, etc. Most manufacturers look at what is known as the "sweet spot" of production. Analyzing incremental production expense to maximize machine capabilities without significant increases in cost.
      Also, the more mass you start moving around, creates another whole set of problems related to vibration, which also influences quality. There are ways to deal with that, but they also cost more. Printer speed also has similar problems the faster you attempt to print.
      So yeah, seems like it shouldn't cost that much more, but unfortunately it does. If you increased the print capable size without beefing up the components, your print quality would leave a lot to be desired. Nobody would end up buying the machine because the results are so bad.
