As someone who has lost 30 pounds and quit binging I can confirm that all your tips are extremely helpful! Prioritizing protein intake was definitely a game changer
yesterday i ate one piece of cake instead of the 3-4 pieces i normally would eat. i still felt a bit guilty but i was also proud of myself for not over eating like usual! :)
I still have my cravings but instead of 3-4 cookies I’ll eat one to satisfy that craving and then move along. I let myself go out to eat with my family and enjoy and tell myself this is only one meal I will not eat bad the whole day including dinner and then keep going the whole week. I eat healthy the whole day enjoy that dinner than go back to being healthy the rest of the week. It’s really helping me to enjoy myself and my process.
Something I find useful to discern whether something is a craving versus actual hunger is the following: Craving - is felt in my mouth/tastebuds. I am driven by the idea of the 'taste' of something and find myself salivating thinking about it. True hunger - is felt in my stomach. My stomach grumbles, it feels empty, I feel like I need some more energy. Feeling your feelings and discerning where you feel those feelings in your body is a useful tool for processing them, and the same can be said for detecting whether you're actually hungry, or if you just want the taste of something in your mouth.
thanks for sharing! great books are always so life changing. The book - Eating Mindfully: how to end mindless eating & enjoy a balanced relationship wtih food by Susan and Lilian was that book for me :)
Yes girl sour cream and onion chips! But for me, my binges come in the form of pies, cakes, cupcakes, ice cream. Really anything, but sweets in particular. I completely ruin my workouts & progress with my binges. It definitely makes me feel guilt and shame afterwards especially being on TH-cam documenting my fitness journey. It’s a dark and emotional part of my journey. I know for me, I don’t eat enough protein. I don’t drink enough water on a day to day and I have to be more mindful in the consumption of those two things. Thanks for this video! 🫶🏽
Thanks so much for sharing! There's no perfect fitness journey, and the fact that you're documenting your own story and being open about the darker moments does WONDERS for your own self-growth and making other people feel seen. I was the same way (& still am!) but learning alternate methods to cope that don't involve food with anxiety has really helped :) I actually made a video on this that you can watch here th-cam.com/video/oA2uzK4rZBM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iaLHodObIrzT1f-B
Thx you for the video, I'm sure it will help. I had huge binge eating problem for 8 years. What made me stop little by little was : - doing sport to feel connected with my body and not to punish me. - doing sport help me sleep better, so less late craving. - eating the fuckin cookies if I want it and just be sure that I'm having a slightly lighter meal at some point to balance it out. - asking myself why I want to eat when I'm not hungry, because 50% of the time it was because I didn't drink enough, 40% was boredom so I will go for walk, and 10% was emotions so I will try to do something like playing video games or going out with a friend. So by watching your video I realise I did kinda what you said.
Everything was so well said. I use to binge eat and lost 19kg, sometimes I need a bit of a refresher and this really helped. Breaking habits are hard and there were so many times that I took my powerful pause while eating and literally would spit the food out because I said no more and I meant it 😂

Since you’re a dietician I feel most comfortable asking you this. What’s the best way to lose weight as a teenager? I am currently 17 , 5’3 , and weight 191. I feel so sad watching the scale go up, which leads me to continue to over eat. Any little problem I have in my life triggers me to over eat. It’s like a never ending cycle that feels like it will truly never end. I have always had trouble eating, if I’m not over eating I’m under eating and have no idea how to create that balance. I’m tired of feeling out of control and want to take my life back.
Mistake #1 is part of why I quit caffeine 😭 I noticed I wasn’t eating breakfast and I’d be eating so much at night. Now I know I MUST eat a good breakfast to stop that habit and it’s harder to do when you drink coffee
I did the 72 hours fasting for the first time few days ago. I did that because since few weeks I was eating ice cream like crazy and it felt it was junking up my organs. The fasting helped me to re-learn how to control myself with food. I had no headache during the process compared to other people on youtube who claimed that, had no fatigue, nothing except about the pooping department and that I wanted to destroy everything around me the first 24 hours. However, I feel way better now and It's easier to have self-control when I open the freezer.

Very great video. I’m on a diet to lose 9 pounds. My body was on a loop for fast food - even though I do exercise. I’m also a recovering addict from substances and working through some childhood emotional absence trauma. Thanks!

I love your channel name, and this video is very helpful, I work at a bakery and have a binge eating problem so it’s not always easy 😂 I’m not exactly where I want to be yet, but I’m working on building a healthy relationship with food
Thank you! I came up with the name "The Roasted Veggie" after my dad shifted from only eating meat and rice to a more balanced diet with vegetables. He didn't care much for veggies but once I made roasted brussel sprouts, he couldn't stop talking about how much he loved them, so the name 'roasted veggie' clicked for me! I also used to work at Whole Foods Bakery in college, so I totally get where you're coming from! It's hard to be surrounded by all the food and not stuff yourself especially if you can see it potentially going to waste. What really helped me is being 'picky.' I love trying new food items, but I try to be picky on the food items i really REALLY love versus eating items that are just "ok."
Love everything you said! I think there are diets out there that promote one food group that is not helping us getting our much needed macronutrients like fiber and carbs! And water is super important yes!! Can’t wait to see more of your videos!!
I'm so glad! I want you to know I'm here if you need anything and offer nutrition coaching if you need any support with your food struggles! You can a book a free discovery call in the description box. :)
thank you so much for this. truly. i was thinking about food so much to the point where id even watch mukbangs, FOR HOURS, wasting so much time out of my day. in reality im just not eating enough / have enough protein in my meals. thank you for teaching me something and now i am going to plan my grocery list more accordingly :)
yes!! omg I know exactly what you mean about mukbangs. It's like oddly satisfying to watch someone else eat food when you're actually the one that needs to eat! Cheering you on!!
I will drink so much matcha all of my calories comes drinking them. I also work in an office and with little to no movement. It’s so easy to let yourself go. I am so embarrassed this year watching my weight gain and attitude changes. I just been going through the motions with the mindlessness. 😢
Honestly thank you for that video, it made me understand a lot of my behaviors with food wich I had no idea of the meaning, thank you so much. Also I love the way you talk about that so gently and honestly at the same time, I always feel so uncomfortable talking about food but this video felt like a hug💖
These are some amazing advice and as someone who struggled with binge eating and stress eating in the past, there’s one book that helped me tremendously: The Hunger Habit by Judson Brewer. Really recommend it to those who has the same struggles.
Telling yourself that you're being dramatic, selfish, and stupid doesn't give you a clear plan moving forward, which in my opinion is unhelpful and self-deprecating. At the end of the day, there is always a reason for feeling out of control with food - whether it be a physical, mental, or environmental reason. You need to discover what that is for you. If it is a more self-sabotaging act, then I would recommend getting professional help from an RD/therapist specializing with food!
How do you feel about fasting? I’ve found that 1-2 meals per day is working well for me now, especially as I’m now a bit older. Additionally if I am feeling a little hungry, bone broth does the trick for me. And I stick primarily with keto as it helps me the most with my chronic severe joint pain. I haven’t had to have cortisone injections to my knees in several years since I started keto. And yes this is not subjective. I’ve documented bone on bone osteoarthritis.
I struggle with the first mistake of not eating enough throughout the day and ‘saving’ all/ mst calories for the end of the day. I really want to break this habit as I know it’s not healthy for my body but I worry so much about spontaneity, and eating most of my daily intake during the day and then going over my intake if say, we had a meal out, trying a new food/ having a drink out. Do you have any advice as to how to overcome this? Also regarding portion sizes, how do you know what a portion is for your body?
sooo soo helpfull, thank god i click on this video, there are many videos that doesn’t really help you and make you waste time, this may be the first one intelligent, about a problem i have for many years, that i watch! thank you so much❤
I really never leave comments on videos but this video caught me at the right time. I have always struggled with binge eating but never really realized how much of a problem it has been until recently. I was in a phase of restricting and feeling so guilty about my unrealistic expectations I have set for myself! Thank you so much for this🥰
Hello love, thank you for this amazing video and helpful tips! I, immediately, subscribed to your channel, as I thought I had overcome my binge eating disorder (had no binges for almost one year), but due to a high stress level and undereating, I have fallen back into old patterns. However, I know that I got this and your video will certainly help me get back into my healthy lifestyle (by healthy I mean getting in my sources of energy). Kind regards
One year binge-free is amazing!!! Life is full of changing seasons, so don't beat yourself up too much. You have already overcame your previous struggles, so I know you got this!!
Thank you so much for your non-judgemental yet very helpful approach to this. I ve really been struggling with this topic ever since I can remember and your video seemed to hit exactly all the right points for me
Intermittent fasting doesn't ALWAYS mean you're starving. You can fast for 16 hours but during your eating time window, you eat enough calories to maintain your weight or even gain weight and in this case you wouldn't be starving yourself. However, there are very different levels of restricted eating where (in my professional opinion) seem more reasonable, and others extreme. Of course, in the extreme, prolonged cases of intermittent fasting, there can be a serious caloric deficit present that may help lose weight fast but that also might not be the healthiest option. I think there's not enough evidence to say intermittent fasting 'works' or 'doesn't work.' I think it depends on the individual's medical/food history, lifestyle, and health goals.
hi! do u have any tips for social situations, where u feel 'pressured' to eat because everyone else is doing so (eg going out with friends and everyone gets ice cream- you don't want to feel left out) i struggle with this a lot
I was the same way! What helped me was realizing that if hunger isn't the issue, then maybe food isn't the answer. And also finding other non-food activities or tasks to fill my time
Im currently too mentally ill to eat well (when I’m not I’m like, getting in protein veg fruit, all that, like, adequately). So I make a lot of mashed potatoes and eat cherry tomatoes when I realize I haven’t had vegetables in a few days… Don’t even bring up the matter of fruit. 😣
After watching this video I really don’t know why I keep binging, I eat more than enough protein, carbs and fats and lots of fruits and vegetables (I don’t eat sugar either), I drink liters of water as well. How can I stop? Do you think it’s all about my mentality? I’ve noticed something I do a lot is say I’ll eat very large amounts of food because I’m going to eat less tomorrow but then I never eat less tomorrow
in my professional and personal experience, the mental part impacts our habits WAY more than people give credit. I'd love to help with that if you want to schedule a free call (link in description!)
In my unprofessional opinion, it sounds like your issues are procrastination and possibly addiction to the feeling of fullness. Are you the type to push back tasks and chores to the next day, too? And are you constantly eating throughout the day, never allowing yourself time to digest and feel empty? Setting easy short term goals such as no eating after 7pm or cutting out specific foods you often overeat can help give you a sense of accomplishment which will naturally increase your desire to be productive and accomplish bigger things. And it sounds like you would benefit from a more strictly itemized plan rather than simply saying you will "eat less tomorrow." Only after you reset your hunger cues and fix your indulgent mentality will you be able to determine the level of strictness you personally need to maintain your health/healthy relationship with food.
i used to have a bingeing problem, maybe 4 years ago. it still returns for maybe a month at a time every few months, and every time i "relapse" i feel so shitty, because i really prioritise healthy eating and healthy habits. idk what im doing wrong
@@theroastedveggie i wish i knew. its just like i suddenly lose control for a few days/weeks for no apparent reason. its usually when im not too occupied with life OR, TOO occupied and stressed. i cant win😭
for me, i go for like 2 weeks of clean eating until one day i just snap and binge for a week before the guilt kicks in and the cycle continues. i dont even feel full even after binging thats why i continue, and sometiems even if i do feel full, i continue to shove shit down my throat until it hurt hurts fr. the thing is i dint think im restrictive during my clean week; like i allow myself to eat snacks and desserts and stuff so im not sure why im still like that 😭😭
Thanks for sharing that!! Here's a few questions I would ask to help you gain some insight - what does your clean eating weeks look like for you? Are you feeling satisfied then? What are you hoping to gain or feel when you do binge?
I stopped binge eating chocolates and just snacks in general, but after I started eating oats that includes nuts in there, I started eating quite a lot of nuts everyday 😅😅
See I used to starve myself and then by covid I started to binge and I still can't stop now and it's during the day and the only time I don't is when I get burnt out and can't get out of bed with no motivation what so ever but I get bored I just don't know what to do I am a sophomore in high school I do no sports I have 8-9 pages of hw every day even for weekends for each class, 6-7 tests each Friday, tons of pop quizzes through the week, and finals/midterms are coming up and holidays, relationship and my friendships are going downhillI just don't know what to do my doctor told me that I was just overreacting same with my mom and my mom has us finish our plates(which is a good bit) bc I starved myself but now I get more food to make her happy. I am sorry just went on a whole rant I apologize.
Hey help I have no one to talk to about this but to summarise: I need help with my eating, I’m a figure skater and train super early morning, I have protein bars but normally have sweet drinks or seeets to keep training, at lunch I try eat healthy like a salad but then get bored and I’m always hungry, all I want to do is eat and it’s a struggle for my family as they are sick of it as I’m bulkmic. Any time something that resembles a ‘unhealthy food’ I binge and purge. I do it 2 times a day for year now. How do I stop I don’t want to gain weight I just want to maintain and not throw up and be happy
Only thing that worked for me is just eating whatever the hell I wanted, I've been the same weight (59kg) for years now and before that it always fluctuated like crazy
I ate more than 1 kilo of fresh figs that I picked today ,I dont have cravings on junk food or late night cravings but how should I deal with this fruit cravings.I cant help myself when it come to fruit😓
most people don't eat enough fruit, so I would enjoy your fresh picked figs (: You can balance fruit out by pairing it with a protein like a brie cheese to increase the feeling of fullness
I dont binge food that i crave i eat what is front of me then I regret. How to deal we hedonic eating ? Sometimes I eat until i am nauseous then i starve myself
8:33 Mistake #1 - not eating enough/appetite suppressant till late night…
11:34 Mistake #2 - not eating balanced meals(protein, carbs, healthy fats; lots of color)
13:19 Mistake #3 - not drinking enough water
14:11 Mistake #4 - not getting enough sleep
15:02 Mistake #5 - not prepared (ex. plan for your hunger with healthy snacks around)

Yes exactly! It isn't always about 'what can I take AWAY', but 'what can I ADD' instead!
Babe u changed my life 😢💗. Send u love with all my heart
Back at you
Thank you so much for this video! It is exactly what I needed to help. And thank you for sharing your experience with this!

@@theroastedveggie what?
Wow, thank you so much for this video! It spoke to my soul ♥️ New follower here!
Glad to have you here at The Roasted Veggie!
thank you so much for this. truly. i was thinking about food so much to the point where id even watch mukbangs, FOR HOURS, wasting so much time out of my day. in reality im just not eating enough / have enough protein in my meals. thank you for teaching me something and now i am going to plan my grocery list more accordingly :)
yes!! omg I know exactly what you mean about mukbangs.
You don't have to stay stuck
Honestly thank you for that video, it made me understand a lot of my behaviors with food wich I had no idea of the meaning, thank you so much. Also I love the way you talk about that so gently and honestly at the same time, I always feel so uncomfortable talking about food but this video felt like a hug💖
Awww yay! Hugs
I am watching this during my binge :')
This video came at the right time then! Which tip resonated with you the most?
🙋🏼♀️😓
me right now:c
Same lol
These are some amazing advice and as someone who struggled with binge eating and stress eating in the past, there’s one book that helped me tremendously: The Hunger Habit by Judson Brewer. Really recommend it to those who has the same struggles.
love this!! To add to that - Eating Mindfully by Susan (psychologist) and Lilian (dietitian) also was INCREDIBLY transformative for me!
Omg thank you sososo much. I’m bulimic and those tips are really helpful for my recovery journey
I'm so glad! Do you have a health team to support your recovery journey?
@@theroastedveggie yes, I'm in therapy
But what if i AM eating enough and I’m just being dramatic, selfish, and just stupid for not being able to control myself?? 😭
I believe fasting can work for some people, but it also isn't helpful for others! I'm glad you found something that works for you!!
Omg I was literally feeling guilty over eating too much n this vid popped up on my feed
perfect timing!!
mistake #1,#2 and #5 are my biggest downfalls, started doing them and i dont get cravings nearly as much as i used to
That's a great reflection!! I'm glad you found something that works for you
sooo soo helpfull, thank god i click on this video, there are many videos that doesn’t really help you and make you waste time, this may be the first one intelligent, about a problem i have for many years, that i watch! thank you so much❤
so glad you're here
You just motivated me to get back on track. Tired of feeling disgusting and having stomach pains from so much snacking. #healthygirlera

this is so helpful thank you
Glad it helped
I really never leave comments on videos but this video caught me at the right time. I have always struggled with binge eating but never really realized how much of a problem it has been until recently. I was in a phase of restricting and feeling so guilty about my unrealistic expectations I have set for myself! Thank you so much for this🥰
It's alot to realize but that's an amazing first step! I'm glad you found my video
This was so helpful omg 🙏
yay! I'm so glad!
Thank you this was really useful actually
I'm so glad! :)
You have already overcame your previous struggles, so I know you got this!!
this was so so helpful thank youu
yes! this makes me so happy!
this is such a great video, thanks for the tips! but how can i do this if i'm on a calorie deficit because i'm targeting fat loss? please help lol
Same principles apply! I would just be even more mindful of calorie content or track your food to ensure you are continuing your calorie deficit.
What about cravings that stay, even when I drink and eat enough, balanced, etc?
Thanks for sharing ❤ love from Hong Kong 🇭🇰
Tanks for this❤
glad you're here!
@@theroastedveggie i'm glad to be here too🤍
Thank you so much for your non-judgemental yet very helpful approach to this. I ve really been struggling with this topic ever since I can remember and your video seemed to hit exactly all the right points for me
this makes me so happy! keep referring to any techniques or tips that work for you. and don't forget to keep going
watching this while binging🥲
this was SUPER helpful, but I really shouldn’t have been watching preparing brownies and eating ice cream 😅
do your thing
Really helps me a lot ❤
so happy it helped you!
My cravings are mainly for bread (like cake or actual bread) or something meaty 😅
I eat food like a hobby. Like idk it’s a hoarder thing in me when i get take out.
Ooh your about to be my favorite person
hehehe heyyyyy
this is exactly what i needed!!
glad it helped!!
thank you so much 🤍
Does intermittent fasting equals to starving? Or does it actually work?
Wooow this video is soo helpful am sending it to my girlfriends ❤❤❤
Yes!! Send away :)
hi! do u have any tips for social situations, where u feel 'pressured' to eat because everyone else is doing so (eg going out with friends and everyone gets ice cream- you don't want to feel left out) i struggle with this a lot
Get some ice cream if you want ice cream, but get a small size or a kid size.
Absolutely! This is a super common struggle, and I feel like this would be a great future video for me to talk about! What do you think?
That's a great tip for portion control and a great way to feel included without going too overboard! Has that worked for you in the past?
@@theroastedveggie that would be great! 💘
@@theroastedveggieI also struggle with the social pressure eating and would love a video on this topic !!
I often binge on bread with diff toppings and cottage cheese
My problem when ever I'm bored i always eat
I was the same way! What helped me was realizing that if hunger isn't the issue, then maybe food isn't the answer. And also finding other non-food activities or tasks to fill my time
Im currently too mentally ill to eat well (when I’m not I’m like, getting in protein veg fruit, all that, like, adequately). So I make a lot of mashed potatoes and eat cherry tomatoes when I realize I haven’t had vegetables in a few days…
Don’t even bring up the matter of fruit. 😣
baby steps! there's no perfection when it comes to food. mashed potatoes and cherry tomatoes are great go-to's. Keep working on your mental health
I hear you! what do you think is triggering you to relapse into the old habit?
@@theroastedveggie i wish i knew. its just like i suddenly lose control for a few days/weeks for no apparent reason. its usually when im not too occupied with life OR, TOO occupied and stressed. i cant win😭
I don’t sleep well because of stress. Like anxiety
for me, i go for like 2 weeks of clean eating until one day i just snap and binge for a week before the guilt kicks in and the cycle continues. i dont even feel full even after binging thats why i continue, and sometiems even if i do feel full, i continue to shove shit down my throat until it hurt hurts fr. the thing is i dint think im restrictive during my clean week; like i allow myself to eat snacks and desserts and stuff so im not sure why im still like that 😭😭
Thanks for sharing that!!
I crave something ultra processed and sweet after all my meals even when I’m full it’s so bad :/
if that's a pattern for you, you can try to purposefully plan to eat those foods and work on nutritional balance
I have Rosacea also I am lactose intolerant and can't eat gluten based foods.. and its soo hard to not eat what I love :(
See I used to starve myself and then by covid I started to binge and I still can't stop now and it's during the day and the only time I don't is when I get burnt out and can't get out of bed with no motivation what so ever but I get bored I just don't know what to do I am a sophomore in high school I do no sports I have 8-9 pages of hw every day even for weekends for each class, 6-7 tests each Friday, tons of pop quizzes through the week, and finals/midterms are coming up and holidays, relationship and my friendships are going downhillI just don't know what to do my doctor told me that I was just overreacting same with my mom and my mom has us finish our plates(which is a good bit) bc I starved myself but now I get more food to make her happy.
I’m scared. The timing of this was weird. Who’s watching me? I wonder is the echo dot or our phones listen to us because what?! 😂
lol that's how i feel! the other day I was talking to my boyfriend about aura rings, and boom... an aura ring ad pops up! crazy!
thank you sweetie
where do you guys get the money to eat so much?
Who gave you that mic
Rn I’m so hungry but I eat all the time and we had no yummy food at home. And it’s 10:46pm 😮
My cravings is sushi 😩😩.
oooooo I love sushi!
Only thing that worked for me is just eating whatever the hell I wanted, I've been the same weight (59kg) for years now and before that it always fluctuated like crazy
yess I love the no-restrictions approach!! It worked for me as well!!
ohh you’re filipina 😮❤
hehehe yesss
loneliness makes me so unhappy i want people to want to be around me
Make yourself homemade meals and that helps a lot
I ate more than 1 kilo of fresh figs that I picked today ,I dont have cravings on junk food or late night cravings but how should I deal with this fruit cravings.I cant help myself when it come to fruit😓
most people don't eat enough fruit, so I would enjoy your fresh picked figs (: You can balance fruit out by pairing it with a protein like a brie cheese to increase the feeling of fullness
I dont binge food that i crave i eat what is front of me then I regret. How to deal we hedonic eating ? Sometimes I eat until i am nauseous then i starve myself
I can definitely do a video about this!
