    I'm an avid watcher of both your and Stuart's channels for the Epic stuff and, in addition to the great painting, you have some really good ideas here. I too have seen the elongated base approach used with 28s but I'm on the fence about it TBH. It's sole purpose is to accommodate the ported pikes and I can’t decide whether I want the ported pikes for the look (and thus probably need to use this basing) or whether to bin the ported pikes altogether and just go with an extra strip of upright pikes. This would avoid needing to use elongated bases and would allow you to base the command strip in the front rank of one strip, moving that to the rear when engaging, as would have happened. Much easier for me on the gaming front, albeit losing a bit on the visual side. If going that route I would possibly even add an extra strip of muskets to the unit on each side in order to get the correct ratio of 2:1, that would definitely look good using the firing muskets IMO. Of course the down side is you'd need extra figures for the upright pikes and that would take 7 of the 9 in a battalia box plus of course there'd be 140 ported pikes wasted from the starter :(
    My main problem at the moment (still ploughing my way through a gazillion Napolenics which, like you I have split the infantry strips in half) is whether I actually need this given it will merely give a slight variation to the Napoleonic BP game. Difference with Naps is that I have a few rule sets I want to use, with ECW, there's no other rules I'd be using. Decisions, decisions LOL.
    My other concern with the Epic ranges is to what extent Warlord plans to complete or even pad out the ranges as opposed to a fleeting interest, starter set, a few expansions, next. Wash, rinse, repeat. That they decided to go with their own scale makes this even more important IMO. As an example, Napoleonics, no limbers or caissons, certainly not an obscure unit type in Naps. Yes they released that (overpriced IMO) cobbled together pack of horses and an ACW limber but that's not enough IMO. Also, unlike the ACW sets, they have not released any separate command sprues for Naps either, needed just as much IMO. Luckily I can plug the gaps from elsewhere for the Naps (albeit expensively) but I'll be very cautious about buying into anymore Warlord Epic 'fire and forget' releases in all honesty. My plan now will be to wait for a year or two after any release before buying into it to see if it's still incomplete.

    • @leont66wargaming31
      @leont66wargaming31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good points raised there.
      The main thing I like about the elongated bases is that I can have a bit more fun making them and have them look a bit more like a diorama.
      I’ll be putting a video out in a couple of days where I’ve found some alternative minis that match the scale pretty well. (Peter Pig) and they’re not too expensive either. I’ll explain more in the video but in essence you could have units with all the pikes upright and other units with pikes at port and advancing so you wouldn’t waste any minis. Also I think you only get 6 of the firing guys on the cavalry sprue so if you wanted front rank firing you’d need to get more. Using the Peter Pig minis for this would also allow you to have 3 ranks of muskets too.
      I agree with you about the half finished ranges. I have used Kallistra for the ACW but haven’t found anything for the Napoleonic range yet apart from some 3D stl’s. They look very nice but I don’t have access to a 3D printer so not much use to me lol.
      I must admit I’m still on the fence about buying these ECW, one because I have so many projects on the go already that starting a new one is pure madness lol.
      I think waiting it out to see how the range develops is sound idea. I feel because of John Stallard’s love for this period they may well go full on with these but as you said time will tell.
      So leaves me on the fence still hahaha. But it’s shiny and the magpie syndrome is strong so I’ll probably end up getting a starter set and adding it to my mountain of lead and plastic. When it’ll get painted…. Who knows lol.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leont66wargaming31 Thanks for the reply and explanations. I think my main issue is that if I did Napoleonics with AB I could complete the range with AB. Living outside of the U.K. and just incurring one set of postal charges, especially with rates now, is an important consideration. Thus the partial Epic ranges are less attractive, particularly given partial seems to be a trend.
      I put up with it for Naps as it’s my main period, for other periods partial won’t wash. The ECW should be easier to fill out given there’s much less variety in the period, the low Cuirassier count is odd though, even given their rarity, but I suspect that will be another box or blister. What will be telling for this release is how they advance the 30YW as for that period, there’s a lot missing. Time will tell I guess.
      For now (like you I have too many projects but I’m getting down them now) I think the idea of ECW is shelved. I’ll look again in a year or 18 months by which time we’ll know if they fleshed out the Nap and / or 30YW any more or whether it’s moved on to the next partial release (Romans I suspect).

      @leont66wargaming31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and following my channel mate.
      I was very tempted to get AB Napoleonics. I did start getting them but decided in the end they were just a bit out of my price range, so I sold the ones I had. They are really nice minis.
      I think in all honesty you’re probably right about things being missed from the range especially for the TYW. The Cuirassiers is a strange one. It’s like the Scots Greys in the British cavalry, not enough of them.
      Yes I’d be amazed if we don’t see Romans sometime later this year.
      I was tempted to get 28mm Romans as my main project this year but decided to finish the Austrians instead, with the possibility of an Epic range for Romans on the horizon. Yet another Rabbit hole.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leont66wargaming31 LOL. I did the same! Started buying my AB before about a year before the Epic release but got distracted by other things. Bought about £250 worth of French. Decided to cut my losses when Epic came out given I’d probably have needed to spend another £6-700 to finish off both sides in AB. Maybe more!! I’ll likely put them up for sale when I get round to it.
      Mate of mine is doing WOTR with Perry 28mm as his next project. If I do anything else I think it will be that, but not until my Naps (and a few more other projects) are done!!
      Looking forward to your future videos. Just re-watching the Nap ones now, like you I am splitting the bases, 24cm frontages is crazy IMO and defeats the object of buying Epic for me.
