Turn the volume up. I can barely hear. 👍
Iron brigade did not wear kepis. All wore Hardee hats
Yes from spring 1862 all the iron brigade uniforms were regulated the same. All with Hardee hats. Prior to this they were much different. Some even wearing grey uniforms like at the first bull run, where they received friendly fire because of it. I’ve only used the plastic kepi troops in the rear ranks to save on money buying the warlord metals. All the front ranks have the Hardee hats so the rear ranks aren’t as noticeable. It was just a case of wallet v accuracy and I went with wallet. I probably should of explained my choices more in the video
super bases for the epic strips. May I ask where you have these bases with their slightly rounded edges bought?
Thanks buddy. I got them from Warbases
@@leont66wargaming31 thank you very much for the info. I will buy them too for my valor & fortitude project for epic napo. Ideal bases with split strips like you showed in the vid. big thumbs up!
@klauszoidberg999 you’re welcome mate and thanks for watching
Hi Leon , i love the basing !!! I was just wondering what size are the infantry bases and where did you get them ? Much appreciated, Paul
hi Paul. The bases are 60x30 on 2mm mdf and I get them from Warbases. However I’m going to rebase them soon so I can make the bases more scenic like I’ve done with my Epic ACW bases. I’ll still be doing half a strip to a base but making them wider. I’ll be going for 60x60 2mm mdf. Here’s the video about my new basing ideas th-cam.com/video/TZ63UB4XdfQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JY2LXk7vrBUQ4K0n
@leont66wargaming31 Much appreciated Leon !!! Yes the scenic basing looks exellent ,like mini dioramas and the units look great . Look forward to seeing them rebased.Got me thinking 🤔.Will you be diving into ancients at all? I think they would also look great with the scenic bases. Cheers buddy !!
Thanks Paul. I am very tempted with the ancients, but I’ve got such a huge backlog of things to paint I’m resisting temptation (barely lol). So until I get all my ACW and Napoleonics painted I’m not going to get them. He says… 😆
Nice rules, nice paint jobs, clear explanations. Bravo!
@@jole2964 thanks buddy.
Logical and intuitive. Well done Leon.
Thanks buddy
Hey, great work! What did you scale the Highlands miniature stuff to? What percentage?
Thanks buddy. I bought them already printed so I’m not sure what % they were done at. Sorry
WOW!
Thanks
Being Dutch myself and having served in a cav regiment with battle honours from the campaign and the battle itself, I never get tired hearing about their heroics. While serving I visited often the Army base named in honor to the General Baron de Constant Rebecque. Edit: Need to get me the book by Veronica Baker-Smith.
Wouldn’t mind getting that book myself. Both my parents were Dutch although I was born in England. I served in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers
@@leont66wargaming31 Nice, my grandmother's sister fled to England just before the occupation and married over there, I got family in the UK I know little about, our countries have a lot of shared history, it always fascinated me.
The brushes will not disappoint, good to see the paints out again.
Thanks mate.
I wanted to ask, do you have an instagram? Also, Id love a new video on epic acw, your thoughts after these years and maybe show the whole collection?
I do have instagram but I don’t use it very much. Leon Frank on there. I’m planning on painting some Epic ACW once I’ve got the Austrians finished. I’ll do a video of everything I have so far just before I start a new regiment
@leont66wargaming31 good to know!
Glad to see you back at it, Leon. Loved the compact painting brushes: For the nerd on the GO!. lol. I'm going to take a look to see if we can get them here.
Thanks buddy. Yep definitely useful if you’re out and about lol. Got mine off Amazon
The grenzers are looking nice so far!
Thanks buddy
Nice update mate. Would be interested to know how you get on with the Opus brushes. At the price they are I’d expect them to get out of the box and do the painting for you🤣😂
Thanks mate. You mean I still have to do the painting..?? What a con 😆🤣😆
Nice to see you back mate 👍
Thanks mate 😊
cool new brushes always good
Cheers mate
Nice one Leon. 👍
Thanks mate
Nice little update mate, the Opus brushes look good. would be afraid to use them
Thanks mate. I’ll let you know how it goes get on with them.
Very glad to see you making videos again. Love it
Thanks buddy
Aren't Opus brushes Rosemary & Co re badged ?
I don’t know about that for sure, however I don’t think so
Very nice you have done a great job on them brilliant pant work looks fantastic 🤠🤠🤠
Thanks buddy 🙂
Nice work chap. It’s nice to get painting again! Hope to get back to it soon as well.
Thanks buddy. Yeah be nice to see you back
Leon back painting again 👍 have you heard of dead man's hand
Hi mate. Yes I’ve played a few games of it. Enjoyed them but not really my thing.
Awesome update Leon really nice to see you back, lovely brushes, nice Austrians
Thanks mate
Great stuff mate
Thanks mate
Nice one mate. Great brush haul.
Thanks mate
Looks good! But aren't those infantry miniatures 10 men per line, molded together in one piece? Did you cut them in half and remodeled their missing arm portions?
Do you still use those wofun Plexiglas figures in games?
No, I haven’t added any more. They do have a lot bigger range now. Some very nice stuff. Unfortunately my hobby budget means I have to choose between one thing or another and they got cut.
@leont66wargaming31 I was tempted in buying some for getting some games in , but they are a bit pricey
I’m considering buying all the necessary miniatures to go for the 100 days ? Same gos for Gettysburg? I can’t get out to any show because my wife’s ill so I can’t gat to gamers that I know it I do have time to paint.
Warlord have a sale on right now if you’re planning on jumping in. The sprue’s are 50% off. Could get everything for a bargain
@@leont66wargaming31 thanks !id better dip in quick . I need something to get me painting . I’ve just found some of my old Landwehre cavalry and 5 regiments of hussars swords btoken so I’ll get to before I loose enthusiasm.
Do you know what is the actual figure to men on a regiment of 5 bases or 100 figures, I just can’t see how thing work?
Sorry mate I don’t know
Please stop this madness. It looks mind numbing
lol. I just like a bit of Lego. It’s a nice break from having to paint anything
@@leont66wargaming31 you're wasting your talents
@bearcub460 I’m still doing my Austrians. I had to take a short break as my brush situation was causing me trouble. I’ve invested in some new brushes now. More about that in my next video lol.
@@leont66wargaming31 You love Austria.
Hey look like good fun. And no painting either. Enjoy. 🙂
Thanks mate. The no painting is my favourite part 😆
Excellent stuff Leon
Cheers mate
Thanks Buddy....Hope all is Great .....
Thanks mate. All good. Hope you’re doing well
4th Dimension Leon...🤣🤣🤣🤣
😆😂🤣. Anything to save some painting 😆😂🤣
So these are now 30x20mm bases now and 30x25mm for the cavalry?
They are yes. However I’m going to rebase them at some point so I can make them more scenic like my ACW. They’ll all be on 30x40 bases then.
Have rewatched and just jumped down the rabbit hole. I think its Epic ACW and Naps for me....maybe epic ancients as well lol
Hahaha yep, I want to get the Ancients as well. I just can’t justify adding to my mountain lol. I might consider it if I can at least get one project finished…
@leont66wargaming31 the hannibal set is a monster. I went for the Roman army starter which is now in the pile of opportunities.
@bjkernowpaintingandmodelli9119 it’s a pity you’re so far away or I’d of got the Carthage set so we could have some games lol.
@@leont66wargaming31 yes as that would have been cool
Awesome Got to agree that dioramic bases rule. And a game as abstract as Black powder is perfect for them.
Thanks buddy.
British models for Belgians and French for the Dutch? Could we get away with that? I found XP forge to get away with some of the cavalry
The British work fine for Belgians. I used on unit of French for Dutch but they’re not really close enough in my opinion. So I won’t be doing anymore. I have seen some 3D prints for the Dutch, they also do cavalry. I’ll see if I can find a link

Hello mate. Good to see you making videos again. I do like the idea for the Austrians but that’s a lot of extra work you’ve signed up for. Not sure I could do that. By the way, where did you get the plastic Grenzers from?
Hi mate. Yeah a lot of work but I only have to paint 8 men at a time which makes it a bit more palatable. The plastics are just normal Perrys. I’m just painting them up as Grenzers and mixing them in with the metals. I’m doing a test model as we speak 😂
Be good to see how they turn out. Wondered if I’d either missed a new plastic release or you’d done some fancy kit bashing.
Yeah nothing new or kit bashed. Hopefully I can do it with just paint. Struggling a bit with what blue to use at the moment 😂
i`m back to and doing Austrians )) nice video and painting ) oh a question leon , i have painted my officer on horseback on a separate circular base is that ok ?
Thanks buddy. I base all my independent command officers on circular bases. So yes that’s cool. I just tend to put a mounted officer in a unit for variety. Plus if I need to identify any battalions as elite or with special rules, I can use the ones with mounted officers in the unit to easily identify them on the gaming table.
Glad to see you active again Dear Leon!! Great work as usual!!
Thanks buddy
Welcome back I've missed you videos. I love the setup of cavalry and the paint job is beautiful on the whole army.
Thanks buddy. Hopefully I’ll keep going for a while now lol
I all most dug in my pockets for these but I do like some variation in figure poses. I bought some used unpainted figures with muskets slung in 15mm but I had settled on AB 15mm but then typically I bought a Pendraken Army pack for Union and Confederate. So I decided to sort out rules. Then Pickett’s Charge was introduced so I started thinking about base size because I wanted shoulder to shoulder on a 3/4” wide base for 15mm to 18mm figures. 10mm figures could use the same size base with 3 ranks but no gain in unit footprint so a 1/2” base in 2 ranks so this means a 50% reduction in footprint so that a 6X4 table would effectively become the equivalent of a 9X6 table. I have some nice card pre coloured in olive green. I’ll try mounting a few figures to see if hand moving the bases doesn’t provide any problems and wether need 4 figures per base or go for brigade fire & fury rules. I think I enjoy more testing rules more than any other part of the hobby. Now how sad is that? 😎
When I first saw them I wasn’t too impressed with them, however once they’re all painted up and now I’ve mixed in a few Kallistra infantry I really like them. I’m thinking of getting or making movement trays for mine, it does take time moving all the individual bases. I think it’s great to try out different rules lol. Makes it so you get more than one use out of your armies
Good to see you back mate, i agree the Austrians look better in big units. As for the cavalry, some units were indeed massive, i believe they split their large units into (confusingly) divisions.... i may be wrong there.... 😂 Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Thanks mate. I reckon doing units of 9 that can become 18 should work ok for the cavalry in that case 🤞🤣.
Great to see your thoughts and work my friend look forward to seeing the results
Thanks mate
Your painted Austrians do look great and will look even better in large units. Thanks for the update and I look forward to following your progress. Cheers.
Thanks mate.
Welcome back fantastic pant work looks brilliant and great way for the setup with your troops looking great 🤠🤠🤠👍👍👍
Thanks mate 😊
First class painting and basing as always, splendid Austrians!!👍👍
Thanks buddy 😊
Thanks for the update! Austrians just "look better", when they are in larger units! (I suppose the same thing can be said for Russians as well!) Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! You have a lot of white uniforms to paint looming in your future... but they will look GRAND on the Ol' Tabletop! The proposed colorful cavalry additions will provide quite a bit of, "Color & Dash" to boot! Well Done!
Thanks buddy. Yes the Russians would be the same lol. Fortunately I don’t have any Russians. Yet….
