The difficulty with gaming this period is that eyewitness accounts of the battles are thin on the ground -especially the ECW- and the various formations are difficult to replicate on the battlefield. Also, rules rarely include weather or the accumulated gunsmoke obscuring the view.

I must admit I don't know as much about the ECW but there's quite a few TYW battles we know some decent details. Sure not exact troops present but there's good estimations to get enough of a wargame. And I gotta be honest, I'm not above just making stuff up :D

I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this release. Initially I was very excited by this release, but not so much now. I would want to do 30YW as well, so much more variety. The big box is just under $300 to buy in Australia, out of my league. I look forward to seeing what you can do with them.

holy crap 300$... that's a bit crazy. I got it for 119€, I don't think I woulda gotten it had it been above 150, so I can totally understand you.

That’s sad to hear. Fortunately it’s only about $130 in America

Couldn’t you for the curassier unit make it a unit of 12 4 per base and replace one with the banner?

The Napoleonic cavalry has the same issue. My solution is to put six on a 60x30mm base, and prime them in black. The black fills in the detail and the close order makes them less visible. In any event, it's impossible to notice the difference on the tabletop.
My solution to the lack of cuirassier will probably to use Steele Fist, although to fair the cuirassier heyday was at the beginning of the TYW. As the war went on soldiers armor tended to get lighter. Veteran professional soldiers would often dicard excess armor and equipment over time. When you spent 99.9% of your time marching the small benifit of armor against gunpowder weapons would seem like a luxury. In addition, cuirassiers were expensive to hire and cash strapped governments prefered cheaper alternatives.

      Steel fist are fantastic

😅Great review thank you. As someone with several 15mm metal 30YW armies, of Peter Pig, SteelFist and various other. I am interested in the rules, but fear how fragile these figures are 😊especially the pikes. I live in Australia, so all minis are expensive, especially postage. I rely on fellow gamers visiting UK to give them my orders to save on postage though.

I've been playing around with the pikes a bit and they are not that fragile honestly. Definitely not nearly as prone to snapping as Victrix spears.

I just can't get over the minis clipping into each other plus how they insist on ten man rows.
Guess I'll have to wait for 3d printing.

That's fair. I still think the original ACW infantry sprue was the best iteration of this line... but I'm honestly ok with it cause I don't really enjoy painting loads of single figures at this small a scale.

have you played any games yet? how well does it play?

Something to tie the wars you are not interest in, with the ones you are. The English Civil War is really the "Wars of Three Kingdoms", England, Scotland and Ireland (Wales does not get a mention) and commanders in that War like Prince Rupert, Ralph Hopton, Alexander Leslie, Thomas Fairfax, William Waller, others and many of the soldiers learned their trades in the Thirty Years War. Liek the Thirty Years Wars, you get to mix politics and religion (The Bishops War)
So, the Battles you fight are training the troops and commanders for that later war
    Good luck!

What tablesize is large enough for this scale? I have a 120*130cm table but it feels a bit small for warhammer and such systems.

I'd say you can play a reasonable game on a table like that. I would say this scale really shines on a 4x6 (so ~120x~180cm) but you should still be able to get a much more reasonable game than you would with 28mm or warhammer miniatures. One infantry regiment will take up 18cm across.
