Warlord games Pike and shotte epic battles sprue review

- Alright guys. check out this review of the 2 new epic pike and shotte sprues from warlord games
in this review we look at both the infantry and cavalry sprues and compare them to the steel fist minituress and try and see how big the flags will for them need to be.

Great close up review, and the figures do look nice, but I'm confused about the figure ratio. If the 'average' pike and shot Regiment was 2:1 (2 muskets to 1 pikeman) I'm curious as to why they have gone for 40 : 40, ie 1 : 1.
Also, the ratio changed as the war went on, from 1:1 early on, through 2:1 and then 3:1 towards the end, so I'm not sure (without major cutting up of the strips) that other ratios of musket to pike can be produced.

Yer your not wrong as like you say the ratio's are off. I think the easy way around that is to to just add more bases to the musket wings maybe but obviously you would have pikes spare but then I guess the spare pikemen would be good for the earlier ratios 😁👍

Re. Flags: take a look at what Caliver books have to offer. They currently have some excellent ECW flags which can be bought in 28mm or 15mm. They also have ACW flags that have been resized for Epic, and they may well do this for Pike and Shotte after the figures go on sale.
Awesome review there Miller. Great run through of the minis and their variations along with a very good looking size comparison with Steel Fist miniatures. With all your knowledge on the ECW your certainly the channel to watch for this Epic release.

Another excellent review mate, your channel is definitely going to be the one to watch for this release. Really surprised to see how well Steel fist miniatures compared as well.

@@MillersMiniatures I’ll certainly be looking at them, loved them before but scared myself when I priced up an army, but adding a few nice extras will be affordable.
I just bought 6 starter battalia for my ECW project and learned about this release a few weeks later :(
Still, very cool, might pick some up for 30YW project or the like.
Bloody hell mate that's was unfortunate 😅 but I would still definitely recommend doing g it in 28mm as you still have the great look on a table
English Civil War Infantry Colours had quite short staffs because the Ensigns were meant to be able to flourish the with one hand.
Yer thats true but I'd still like bug false making it easier to distinguish the units from eachother. 😁👍
Would they have formed up shoulder to shoulder in real life? I imagined there would be a gap between each man in real formations….
Yes your not wotng mate they definitely wouldn't have been as tightly packs as this especially not the musketeers. But for the sake of casting and giving the impression on of a unit, its something im willing to over look 😁👍

Excellent review! All of the flags look like they are for 25/28mm.
Cheers mate. Mand doo seem large but they were from the 15mm range on wargames designs.
I only paint 15mm figures and buy the 10mm range flags. The 15mm just look too big to me!
As regard the flags & standards couldn’t you use ones designed for 10mm figs be used ? Why create a problem if there’s a simple solution just a thought.

And in terms of flags - flags meant for 10mm figures tend to fit really well on the epic scale minis as they are. 15mm flags don't look too outlandish once the whole unit is together... if one can be bothered to replace the flagpoles :D

Yes that's a good question. Annoyingly I do have some of those figures and didn't think to scale them with them but I will have a look in a minute and DM you a picture 😁👍
Nice review on the new Epic figures. The different poses and armor are a nice surprise. Something to play with.

@@MillersMiniatures Sadly P&S doesn't differentiate between armored and unarmored pikes as FoG does.
No but some or the army lists in the To kill a king supplement which bishops war and ECW) you can give certain units freshly raised and some other veteran. That would mean you could obviously make them armoured or un armoured to represent this.

I would have thought you would have an odd strip painted for this show and tell. Scan and print them at s slightly smaller scale.

Thanks for the review. I wonder if 10mm flags might suit better? In the day flags were large for obvious reasons but I guess you do need to be able to fit them on the pole.
change out the pole with music wire.
Brilliant review. Now seeing these close up I can see how easy it would be with a scalpel and some miiiput to custom up an Uruk Hai Helms Deep force. The cavalry could be adapted to riders of Rohan by also applying a scalpel and miliput cape. I might buy a second box of Push Of Pike to give it a go

Thank you for the review and the size comparison with Steel Fist Miniatures. They look very compatible, and useful for many things. TYW gamers might appreciate their cuirassiers.
BTW, I though I saw the epic mounted dragoons holding muskets in their right hand.
Yer your not wrong the cuirassiers would be good for TYW didn't think of that. And I think then I clip them off the sprue I might be able to find things a little easier 😅👍

Nice review. About the flags, I think there are two issues, The real life infantry flags WERE large, about 6' 6" square, so not completely out of scale. Also, the larger flags make unit recognition on the table easier.
Yer I love the bigger flag look and normally get my flags scaled up so i am likely to get a load of flags from wargames designs to use instead.
Great review mate. They look very good and it's nice to see that there's some play in the pikes. It's a shame there's only 2 cuirassier on the sprue as you'll need shed loads if you are doing the 30 years war.
Yer I was really solworriwd about the pikes either being to stiluff and prone to snapping but they seem really good and hopefully will take a bit of a beating. 😁👍
Great review. They are a lot cleaner and more detailed than I thought they would be. Good to see some close up shots. Good mix of cavalry as well on one sprue.
Yer I was impressed with how detailed they are but it's not so detailed that it will be a pain to paint at that scale. Cannot wait to see what everyone does with them. 😁👍
