I'd love to see this version of Older Luke or Ack-To older luke as a legendary skin in Battlefront 2. Maybe even have a couple emotes like "See ya around Kid" and so on so forth.
Me wanting a game skin aside, I genuinely do love this development for Ben. Like you said it's an awesome touch that he is frustrated that hes named after legends or associated with legends he can either never live up to or has never even met. Its interesting and just reinforces that Ben is indeed the best character out of the new trilogy

It would help if he wasnt killed off in the second movie of the trilogy. JJ Abrams obviously set up big things for him in tfa, with "completing Kylo Rens training" and he obviously wanted Rey for some purpose, but in tlj he just wanted to interrogate and kill Rey and he never did anything to complete Kylo Ren's training.

@Stephen Jenkins exactly, I liked his death, I dont think is stupid, just makes Kilo Ren even more interesting and powerfull, and I like the idea of a mysterious character, and I dont think that we have to know his true origin, but if they are going to show us, show something cool, something that makes sense, and something that dont make the character absolutely idiot.
But that was what we got.

Perhaps the Snoke bodies age and degrade over time when they’re being possessed by Palpatine and have to be periodically replaced, which is why Snoke appeared older in TFA?
If Snoke is just Palpatine the entire time that doesn’t really bother me because I love Sheev, and it’s interesting to see the sort of deception he wraps around himself in order to operate in the galaxy without alerting Luke to his return. Especially here where we see him in an entirely new environment. The man is like the ultimate manipulator, he really is the devil in the Star Wars universe, and I like how TROS gave him that feeling of an inescapable evil force.
That said, if Snoke has his own personality and is semi-autonomous, almost like a Dooku character, then I would love to see what the dynamic between him and Sheev is, and why and how he was made the way he was.
Perhaps his similarities to the Emperor were meant to endear the imperial remnant to him, that way they could coalesce around a shadow of the emperor they were loyal to, without all of them having to know about the Sith Eternal and the Final Order.

When I saw "The Last Jedi" I was struck by the realization that Luke, a man RAISED by his uncle never once is shown to relate to Ben as an uncle. He talks about failing Ben as a master, not as an uncle doing a pretty shit thing to his sister's kid. Now we see why.
Ben drops "master" nearly as much as Obi-Wan did to Qui-Gon. That frequency indicates he's been told to do so, probably repeatedly. That's cold, almost distant. But that is not the real nature of their relationship. They are supposed to be a family. To a boy who already felt repeatedly abandoned by parents who put most of their focus on their jobs and squabbling with each other, this distance would have felt cold, left any child feeling unloved and as bit unwanted. The terms objectify and formalize what should be a familiar relationship
Sheesh. The Sktwalker clan should writ a book on how NOT to raise a kid.

It is confirmed that Snoke witnessed the rise and fall of the Empire, so he must have been around at least ever since 19 BBY (in one form or another). I like the thought that Snoke is Palpatines experiment on the teachings of Plagueis, to create life with the help of Midichlorians. He succeeded, but kept some 'backups' just in case.

So if you see all 9 movies and you get up to the six where you think Palpatine is killed by getting thrown down a shaft and then you know that 20-30 years later he really wasn't but he's really banged up and he can't do anything for himself he needs help and smokes the puppet for this then it just makes the story even better. I will say that Palpatine-as-Snoke adds a really interesting dimension to the comic version of the character. Whenever he speaks into Ben's mind, he *oozes* the false-grandfatherly sympathy of Palpatine from the prequels - something I really appreciate, given how offputting it is to see this famous political manipulator decide in TROS that his best bet for re-conquering the galaxy is just a huge invasion fleet. Also, both here and in Snoke's Age of Resistance story, you can just feel how his condescension towards Luke is masking a lot of anger, resentment, and longing. He's *still* frustrated that Luke refused him in Return of the Jedi, and he fluctuates between mocking Skywalker for becoming the same sort of weak-willed Jedi he killed off, and fantasizing about what might have been had he joined him.

One thing I'm surprised you didn't touch on was Snoke's perspective on names, encouraging Ben to take on a different name that he chooses for himself (which I'm guessing is what will ultimately lead to the name "Kylo"). During the speech, Snoke mentions that he wasn't always Snoke, and that he "became" Snoke. Could be a reference to the fact that he's actually Sidious, controlling a puppet body? At least, that was my take

His frustration stems from his family treating him as if he were some kind of problematic conflict diamond so very valuable but hard to sell. No other students or academy at this time yet he has to be so formal following the strict Jedi code. Leia sent the boy off to the great Jedi Luke Skywalker. Ben is upset his family, the family has abandoned him. He’s a child still when he gets to Luke yet Luke who trained with Yoda on the weekends basically is running a tight ship. These stories were always meant to fill in the characters backgrounds, to say they feel flat post Episode IX seems like hollow complaint.

So the question is, what will the galaxy gain from his dead? Only revenge. I would write TROS and Ben's redemption arc completely different than JJ and Chris did. Rather correct your mistakes and that at the beginning of the movie than sacrifice your life for one woman. And we shouldn't ignore that he is a victim of abuse and manipulation. So another important question would be, is he completely responsible for his action or is it Palpatine's doings? But one thing I know for sure, I want a Star Wars movie with hope where we can see with our own eyes that a man who done bad things can do good things. And someday the good things will change everything.

I was just thinking about the whole Snoke story line. If there were extra Snokes and there was so many years between Last Jedi & Rise Of Skywalker, couldn't the Emperor just have inserted a new Snoke into the Picture ( or would a new one be a blank slate with no knowledge of what the former Snoke knew ). Why let Ben become the Supreme leader if the Emperor was running things by way of Snoke. It just seems all to confusing to think about. Maybe I am way off on my thinking. I don't know.

I agree that seeing Ben being manipulated into becoming Kylo Ren is very disheartening after we know where his story is going to be going, but I think that's the point. That Ben Solo is supposed to be a tragic character who is ultimately the victim of manipulation. I feel like if you read this comic then watch the sequels you will get this sense that Ben is a tragic character. This is what I love about the new canon, all these little tie-in stories go a long way to making the films that much more enjoyable, especially if you read them in chronological order.

  • @nwworrior28

Exactly with Alex here. I'm trying not to think too hard about Snoke and Palpatine and all that stupid shit that TROS brought up. BUT knowing Ben dies at the end of all this is down right cruel. He deserved to live with Rey, the Last Jedi, atone for his sins(which were also due to strong manipulation from a young age), and live out his life helping new force users. His death stings so much and reading this doesn't help.

This comic is great. It further shows how much Ben has suffered and been manipulated growing up. In my opinion, Ben deserved a happier ending in TROS. After all these films, the death of the last Skywalker feels like a win for Palpatine in the end.

If Ben would have have lived in the ROS, and turned out to be the true hero after coming back into the light and defeating Palpatine, instead of Rey, I think it would have made a world a of difference in the end, especially considering he is actually apart of the Skywalker bloodline. The title of the movie would have made more sense and it would have made for a good twist in the end.

Once again, Disney puts the most interesting and most important parts of a storyline into the comics rather than in the films. Obviously, you can put more into the outside material (comics, books, etc) than you can in the films. But a flashback or two of Luke training Ben like this in TLJ, instead of Canto Bight, would have solved several issues I had with the film, and it would have whetted our appetites for these comics and books. Instead, it seems that Disney is almost 'forcing' people to purchase the comics and books in order to understand the story they were trying to tell in the sequel trilogy.
