Exactly, and it's ridiculous. They're making movies for the sake of making movies (and money) instead of making the movies because they have a good story worth telling. It's sad really, and a huge missed opportunity.
What's even more mind-numbing is they COULD have been successful just making movies year after year if they had simply kept to Lucas's intended story instead of stabbing him and his franchise in the back simply because "enlightened" Hollywood elites "know better".

Caleb Lòpez Honestly, in the ranking of characters who didn't do much, Boba is still the best, he looked cool, he talked like an equal to Vader, and he tracked down Solo, and managed to claim two bounties on one guy. The Knights of Ren.... just stood around. Even when they tracked down the heroes, they just stood there.... menacingly! And when they fought a Jedi, something their supposed to be good at, I assumed, the instant a lightsaber entered the battle they went down.
And then they'll pop up again somehow surviving all those stabs and slices from the movie with cybernetic limbs in expanded lore through other more obscure media. 😑
I get that it's too late, but we could have had the anti-ESB, see all the Knights fight with Kylo and train to kill Snoke, like a rebellion just with the dark side knights against the Praetorians. Have him fear Rey the whole time like Luke feared Vader. That could have happened, rather than alien tit milk.
These Knights of Ren look so badass and restored a little of my faith in the story of Kylo Ren. That being said, did anyone else think one of the knights at 4:49 was wielding a cricket bat instead of a cleaver?

When they do finally show up its in a role that could have been subbed in by some fancy storm troopers... There was also zero development regarding their relationship with Kylo, no connection or meaning to their final confrontation.
Most of the new characters in the disney trilogy all are insignificant. Knights of Ren is as killable as any stormtrooper, they were like "Hi!" then they dead. Captain Phasma and Snoke killed off when introduced before I get to know em, a total waste. I barely knew Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace but at least he fought greatly to make it worth it.
The Knights of Ren have a very different feel to them. They do not have the same 'vibe' as the Inquisitorius or the Emperor's Hands. The Knights of Ren have a more primal Dark Side feel, almost barbaric. They remind me of the Sith Stalker, Galen Marek's Dark Side incarnation, especially the Sith Stalker Armor he wore.

So 10 minutes of screen time for the new intreasting antagonists it is. Anyway what would their philosophy be surmised as? Also i would say this perfectly shows how dangerous darkside users or just force users in general can be. I mean in the time it took for Ren to make his saber float they seem to have killed off everyone of those security guys. It probobly only took a couple of seconds.

We have Kylo Ren, the knights of Ren and the First Order as antagonist. JJ Abrams didn't have to reintroduce Palpatine. Specially because he killed the knights and the First Order almost off-screen.

I thought that the knights of ren were Kylo's buddies that joined him after Luke tried to kill Kylo. All force sensitive and were going to be the modern sith. Than they turned out to be a group of thugs with clubs. :(

no one cares about the knights of ren anymore. they were mentioned in the force awakens, completely forgotten about in TLJ and were utterly worthless in TRoS.
I'm not sure they were "forgotten about" in TLJ. TLJ has a very narrow scope: it takes place over a brief period, with most of the story taking place on Luke's island, in Canto Bite, in Snoke's ship, and in the Rebel fleet. There isn't much room in that for additional characters or locations, especially given the film's run time. I know I didn't miss them.

That's pretty much the story for this whole sequel trilogy, writers taking what little they can to make something cool to tell in comic and book form. Unlike the EU though, I feel the canon is severely limited.
@@skoulikiagamwtanekrasas The thing is though, they're called "The Knights of Ren", they share Kylo's name of "Ren", he leads them, they look mystical, like Space Ronin or something, they were very intriguing and when JJ showed them briefly in Rey's Force-back vision, it made us think they had somekind of prominent role, or part to play in the sequel trilogy. It's like when you see the big holo-image of the Emperor for the first time in ESB, Lucas picks up on him further in ROTJ; and then explored his kind of backstory in the prequels further, giving you solid insight into Palpatine. With the KoR it's very dissatisfying, because Kylo struggled to handle those few Praetorian Guard in TLJ, he needed help from Rey to defeat them. But just a year later, suddenly he can defeat ALL of his own Knights of Ren easily!? They just looked soo badass and mysterious and die so pathetically, nothing interesting is done with them in Ep9!!! So by the time we get round to exploring and being given further insight into them in the comics, it all feels pointless. They could have been messed up force-sensitive clones of Sideous' past apprentices, Maul, Tyranus etc. Or they could have been the feral children from the Aftermath novels, but like grown up. Or they could have been modern take on "Dark Jedi". Or the KoR could have been part of somekind of secret project, where they are cloned from the DNA of Sith Lords from the past, each one having the DNA of Nhilus, Revan, Malak, etc. What i'm getting at is JJ and his writers literally had infinite ideas they could have used, to draw inspiration from, and actually create a really cool role for the KoR to have in the sequels. Instead he did literally NOTHING with them, it's soo disappointing when i think about it. And the comics backstory is LAME AF! It really just kind of makes the Knights of Ren, amount to being nothing more than a band of evil raiders, that are just obsessed with killing, thats it. Theres no intrigue there. And that whole pretentious dribble about them following "the Ren", thats just stupid, empty and shallow. Even the Knight's previous leader "Ren", looks soo frickin cool too, with that black, ash-like scarring all over his body, and that Lui-Kang/Raiden looking fauld he wheres on his waist with the trousers. The sequels are extremely vague on every backstory, and all their cool looking characters, like KoR and Cap Phasma are wasted, such a shame. I'm going to come up with my own backstory for that Ren leader and the Knights of Ren themselves, because i simply can't accept their story how it is. And i promise you, i WILL come up with a truly amazing backstory.

Not going to lie, I liked Kylo Ren in “TFA”, and I really wish they had explored this Knights of Ren philosophy & Ben Solo’s backstory & conversion to the Knights of Ren.
This Ren should've been the main badguy in the movies. Couldn't you imagine the Knights of Ren being this new Sith Order for Lukes new Jedi Order to fight against. We could see entire battles with red and blue lightsabers clashing with each other
Disney’s plan all along was to make episode 7, 8 and 9 a vague shell of a movie that would be filled in with a the supplemental$$$ material(comics, novels etc). The plan back fired and the movies ended up being terrible. Rogue One and the Mandalorian should be the model moving forward...

Well to be fair, there was a lot of expanded material from The Clone Wars that I found way more compelling than the prequels. Any expanded lore for the sequels is nice because it can give more meaning to characters and events that happened in that trilogy. Much like what The Clone Wars did for the prequels.

I was so excited to see what these guys were all about and fight. Annnnd then they just died like the red guards did in under a minute.
Actually the red guards lasted much longer, and were far more impressive.
Yeh this is just one of many reasons why i hate the sequels, they wasted every good, cool looking character and interesting elements.

I’d say they seem pretty badass, but at the end of the film they’re literally cannon fodder.
They had potential, some depth and a fascinating philosophy in the comics.

We have Kylo Ren, the knights of Ren and the First Order as antagonist. JJ Abrams didn't have to reintroduce Palpatine. Specially because he killed the knights and the First Order almost off-screen.
I feel like the Star Wars reading club is going to give us more back story than the rise of Skywalker on the Knights of Ren. Personally I would have like the Knights of Ren to have been the villains👍😂🤣
I thought that the knights of ren were Kylo's buddies that joined him after Luke tried to kill Kylo. All force sensitive and were going to be the modern sith. Than they turned out to be a group of thugs with clubs. :(

These five minutes have introduced more fascinating and interesting lore and characters than the sequel trilogy combined.

no one cares about the knights of ren anymore. they were mentioned in the force awakens, completely forgotten about in TLJ and were utterly worthless in TRoS.
I'm not sure they were "forgotten about" in TLJ. TLJ has a very narrow scope: it takes place over a brief period, with most of the story taking place on Luke's island, in Canto Bite, in Snoke's ship, and in the Rebel fleet. There isn't much room in that for additional characters or locations, especially given the film's run time. I know I didn't miss them.
@@Sardonac Rian Johnson forgot about them, like he did with 90% of the plot points for FA. He also forgot to leave a story for the 3rd film. Oh and he also forgot who Luke Skywalker was. TLJ is the worst star wars film ever made and is single handedly responsible for the current state of the franchise.

If you honestly think there wasn't tonnes of room for compelling new stories after TLJ then you've less imagination for narratives than JJ Abrams.

Massive ones at that he lost body parts in battle and was out matched many times by the likes of Dooku, Durge (he did beat them later on but after a lot of time). He had a lot of potential but he unlocked it piece by piece. But Ray does all that he did with 0 training. All this stupid plot armor shit is done with Ray while wasting a character like Finn.

@@Orto-jj2di Well young Anakin got his hand cut off when trying to fight Dooku while Rey fought and win with what is suppose to be elite guards with little training in the force. See the difference here???? Anakin has character development he lose but improve after many setbacks. So far Rey had just seen victories after victories and literally fought enemies with ZERO effort.

The knights of Ren should have been fallen Jedi from Skywalker’s academy who followed Ben solo after the turn of events, swore their loyalty to Ben.
Indeed, that's what their brief mention in TFA(or was it in TLJ, I don't remember) seemed to indicate.

That's pretty much the story for this whole sequel trilogy, writers taking what little they can to make something cool to tell in comic and book form. Unlike the EU though, I feel the canon is severely limited.

@@skoulikiagamwtanekrasas The thing is though, they're called "The Knights of Ren", they share Kylo's name of "Ren", he leads them, they look mystical, like Space Ronin or something, they were very intriguing and when JJ showed them briefly in Rey's Force-back vision, it made us think they had somekind of prominent role, or part to play in the sequel trilogy.
It's like when you see the big holo-image of the Emperor for the first time in ESB, Lucas picks up on him further in ROTJ; and then explored his kind of backstory in the prequels further, giving you solid insight into Palpatine.
With the KoR it's very dissatisfying, because Kylo struggled to handle those few Praetorian Guard in TLJ, he needed help from Rey to defeat them. But just a year later, suddenly he can defeat ALL of his own Knights of Ren easily!?
They just looked soo badass and mysterious and die so pathetically, nothing interesting is done with them in Ep9!!!
So by the time we get round to exploring and being given further insight into them in the comics, it all feels pointless.
They could have been messed up force-sensitive clones of Sideous' past apprentices, Maul, Tyranus etc.
Or they could have been the feral children from the Aftermath novels, but like grown up.
Or they could have been modern take on "Dark Jedi".
Or the KoR could have been part of somekind of secret project, where they are cloned from the DNA of Sith Lords from the past, each one having the DNA of Nhilus, Revan, Malak, etc.
What i'm getting at is JJ and his writers literally had infinite ideas they could have used, to draw inspiration from, and actually create a really cool role for the KoR to have in the sequels.
Instead he did literally NOTHING with them, it's soo disappointing when i think about it.
And the comics backstory is LAME AF! It really just kind of makes the Knights of Ren, amount to being nothing more than a band of evil raiders, that are just obsessed with killing, thats it. Theres no intrigue there.
And that whole pretentious dribble about them following "the Ren", thats just stupid, empty and shallow.
Even the Knight's previous leader "Ren", looks soo frickin cool too, with that black, ash-like scarring all over his body, and that Lui-Kang/Raiden looking fauld he wheres on his waist with the trousers.
The sequels are extremely vague on every backstory, and all their cool looking characters, like KoR and Cap Phasma are wasted, such a shame.
I'm going to come up with my own backstory for that Ren leader and the Knights of Ren themselves, because i simply can't accept their story how it is.
And i promise you, i WILL come up with a truly amazing backstory.

Disney’s plan all along was to make episode 7, 8 and 9 a vague shell of a movie that would be filled in with a the supplemental$$$ material(comics, novels etc). The plan back fired and the movies ended up being terrible.

I bet I know where the knights of Ren actually came from. In the last Jedi luke describing what happened with Ben at the temple he said Ben vanished with a handful of his students. That handful are the knights of Ren. Credit goes to me cause I’ve never seen or heard this.

It’s possible they became knights of ren to replace those killed in the raid, were killed by Ben, or even became the praetorian guards.

Well to be fair, there was a lot of expanded material from The Clone Wars that I found way more compelling than the prequels. Any expanded lore for the sequels is nice because it can give more meaning to characters and events that happened in that trilogy. Much like what The Clone Wars did for the prequels.
It' not going to suck, it's going to end the year perfectly. People who say it's sucks before even seeing lets me know their life sucks. I love all 3 star wars movies, I love the comics, I love the Mandolorian, nothing sucks, your life sucks around it.

One comic gave more backstory to the Knights of Ren than THREE MOVIES did! Hell, I'd say this comic was more interesting than anything the THREE MOVIES ever gave us.
