- We’re always amazed at just how many SUVs Toyota seems to sell, and there’s good reason for that - people know the brand, know the reputation, and know they’ve got options to choose from.
Keeping that in mind, we decided to amass three of the Japanese brand’s seven-seat SUVs to put them to the test: the Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Kluger, and Toyota LandCruiser Prado. In 2016, Toyota sold more than 30,000 of these types of SUVs, easily outselling entire brands like Audi, BMW, Land Rover and Suzuki.

Been driving my Prado GXL for ten years now without any issues, it's more like luxury car, very comfortable and reliable.
Normally I upgrade to a new vehicle every 4 to 6 years, but now my Prado still drive like new but never been off road.
Front brake pads changed at 110k km and rear at 150k km and tyres around 80k km.
Brake pads and tyres simply don’t last that long

After doing a long in depth research I bought a Prado as it is the best for everything in and around Australia. Luxury with safety and it feels bloody good to drive one on daily basis.
Prado for me, Fortuner for my wife and Kluger for my 2wife
And corrola for your 3rd wife😉🤣

Yes, I was hoping to see that too - if the other two were only using '4 high' and no diff locks the Kluger might have done o.k. if they picked their lines carefully.
Here in the States, we call the Kluger the Highlander. It has the same styling and body but named different.
Here in Uganda, we have both haha. Depends where you import it from. They're not sold at the Toyota dealerships.
Yeah mostly Kluger/Higlander from 2016 to 2019 are made in USA its American car
2 things that are not mentioned in the video:
1. the petrol kluger costs more on the road because of the petrol engine
2. the resale value of fortuner and prado should be much more than kluger (although here in new zealand, second hand kluger is very expensive. sorry, don't understand it)
The Fortuner is the sweet spot. But I do like the Kruger for being able to seat 7 people in comfort, while accelerating like a sedan. However they don't call the Prado " Pride of the Land " for nothing, as it basically has all the gadgets to tackle the most unforgiving of roads.
I would argue, since the Kakadu has adjustable air suspension it will be THE most comfortable vehicle is ALL situations. We have a Grande 2007 Prado and we love it. On those long drives the centre console fridge works its magic with 4 very cold cans of drink (driver may consider using straw for safety).
The commanding view ahead allows early detection of pot holes (even if you hit them the 65 profile plus air suspension just laughs at them).
Do what we did, buy a 3 year, 100,000 klm Prado and take the risk. Sure it needs to be maintained, like any vehicle, at 3 years old and pushing a good deal will see you well outback, on the beach, anywhere.

Prado. They did not show complete on-roading and off-roading gear and suspension combinations where Pardo justifies its $85k price tags.
Fortuner and similar class like Mitsubishi Pajero Sports, Ford Everest are just “cabined UTEs”, while Kluger is just everyday city SUV. While in Australia I am developing the feeling that there is no use of buying a super sports car here as the speed limits are too low and it is breach of law to exceed speed limits in any way. The only thing you can enjoy in Australia is off-roading as there are no rules and limitations to your enjoyment in the outback 😊
fortuner is the best bet among the three...however owning a prado is a feeling of different level all together

My dad owns a GXL Prado V6 from 2017. Hasn't missed a beat and we have the flat boot and Leather seats so it looks good and is more comfortable. My mum owns the Kluger Grande from 2019 and it is so so comfortable. We have fitted the air suspension from the kakadu on our GXL too so it is basically a kakadu with different wheels and none of the fake wood.

We live on a farm and the prado is perfect to drop lunch off to the hubby,and then I can go and pick the kids up from school and get the shopping

I would love to see an in depth comparison of the Fortuner Crusade vs Prado GXL since they are close in price.
So you said what everybody already new, and did no comparison at all except the drag-race. This is some good journalism guys.
Prado. 0 to 100 is not a practical test for driving as high torque at low revs. Diesel engine is always enjoyable in driving, effortless, better economy. Finally big, roomy, raised cabin, soft suspension. KKDS is there so no need to chose hard suspension.
Fortuna. At a reasonable price the soccer mum can benefit from good km/100k's diesel and Dad can take off to the beach for a camping break too.
Although I'm in Saudi Arabia I find Australian reviews very useful. How ever Australian Always get the better engines, for example we don't have 2.8 diesel furtuner only the 2.4. Mainly because we use petrol more than diesel. And only this year have we get the 4.0 petrol hilux. Before that we used to get the 2.7.
2.8 available now in SAUDIA Arabia ya Abdullah 😂but it’s too expensive 😢

I Love my Kluger Grande to be honest..very comfortable,spacious and a beautiful family car..cheers mate
In my opinion the Prado is the the best of the best in off road capabilities, while the fortuner is somewhere in between but the fortuner can keep up with Prado when driving off road. I own a fortuner 4x2 and I have been driving on mild off road terrain and long highway driving and to my experience it's has the best fuel consumption 14km/L to 22km/L and a very good handling and suspension.
Sadly though they don't have the Kluger sold here in the Philippines
I've driven over a similar hilly dirt road with a VW Beetle 2002 with sports aluminum wheels andlow profile tires. It handled it pretty well. I doubt the Kluger wouldn't have been able to handle it.
Please bring over and compare a US market 4Runner and Sequoia.
The prado is available in 4.0 V6 engine as well atleast here in the middle east
If money wasn’t an issue and you have to choose one of the three, hands down the Prado.

The Fortuner has a very heavy steering compared to a Hilux. And it has a very boaty ride and nose dive every time you brake hard. It tends to sag when you load at the back especially when it carries 7 people, you would feel the suspension stoppernat the back already hitting. But it’s a good car over all. My mother owns one and I own a Hilux.
Oh no. That’s no good. Perhaps look at a trade in.
What the different between fortuner gx, gxl, and crusade I know gx is no roof rack and fog light is there a different on the body size and the engine or the same ??
Fortuner 100% sure best value for money also same engine as Prado in smaller vehicle better fuel efficient and strong as the Hilux, it just can not get better than that and way cheaper toooo9

Toyota Kluger origin was Toyota Kijang, special car for Indonesa market. Kijang means Kerjasama Indonesia Jepang (Indonesia Japan Cooperation)
Some people arent as fortunate and have a low budget, but my family has a 2016 land cruiser sahara and a 2016 prado kakadu and although the sahara is a beauty of a truck, we all prefer the kakadu for its over all size and capability
Care to elaborate more? I'm to tossing between lc200 and prado. I like the new update prado for 2018 but I would love the v8 diesel of landcruiser.

Both the Fortuner and the Prado need a more powerful diesel engine. Preferably a smooth inline six cylinder with 200 kw and 615 Nm of torque. Oh yeah... That would be awesome. Toyota, take note.

Joseph Handal, I can't afford two SUVs. I'd have to stop at Klugar for me for the time being. But when I can afford a Klugar for my wife, I'd upgrade myself to a prado Kakadu. I'm so lucky my wife doesn't read these comments ;)

+ProCelestialEmpire the closest thing to a Prado is the Lexus GX. The Fortuner is basically based off a mid sized pickup truck so it's not as comfortable as most of its competitors and it doesn't handle as good either.
ProCelestialEmpire klugar is the highlander, Prado is the Lexus GX, fortuner is a rebodied 4runner with a diesel instead of the v6 we get in the states. So in essence we do get them here but we don’t have the trim options that they get or engines. I really wish we would get the land cruiser 200 trim options
Just be the Prado in VX guise. Save over 10 grand and it still has everything you need.

Prado if I really needed an off roader. If wanted an SUV I'd go Touareg or CX9. Pajero Sport is 10k cheaper, has a better interior and as good off road compared to Fortuner.

In my country importing a used Prado or a Fortuner from Japan or Thailand is almost the same price when I take into account the taxes which is about for a used 2015 Prado $55,000 USD. So by far the Prado why because would you really pay that money for an suv that is basically a Hilux the Kluger got too big of an engine that's a lot more in taxes
The Prado just crosses the threshold where you feel bad about beating it up offroad.
Disinf3ctant not as bad as full size Land Cruiser or even worse LX460/570.

According this video i don't see any reason to prefer Prado over the other ones.Fortuner has the same engine and it's higher a little bit then Prado which could help the car when climbing hills to avoid crashing the below parts of the car.Kluger would be second,but i think she's wrong.Sometimes you really have to go off-road espacially climbing mid height hills and Kluger as she said it would be a disaster.It couldn't handle to drag car upper,engine's power couldn't be enough.
So Fortuner gets everywhere without any issues, though would be less comfortable than the others on road, but i suppose everyone can live with that.

At least the Fortuner's pickup sibling the Hilux, is sold in the UK alongside the Prado. I bet they should bring the Fortuner in the European market (the Fortuner is already available in Russia).
you should have tried the Kluger up that hill. I reckon it'll make it, pick the right line, get a spotter, I'm sure Kluger AWD system can do the work, I've seen what they've done in sand
Yes, the Highlander could make it up that hill. There's other TH-cam videos showing it. You would just have to be a little more careful than the others. Highlander has a locking diff. It's actually a decent system.
