    We've had our Pajero Sport for a little over 2 years now and have totally loved it from day 1. Being our first 4wd (which we mainly wanted for towing) I did a lot of research and it came out on top for price and specs, especially compared to the Ford which was my original choice. We ended up going with the base level, as at the time it was the only one that came with 5 seats (7 seats took up too much space) and the cabin is still a fantastic place to be. Can't recommend it enough.

    At that similar price range, the others just can't beat the Pajero Sport. The Everest will compete if it is in Titanium trim, but that one will cost another $20K O.o

    Nice review. I was considering the Fortuner but got a MU-X instead and glad I did. Have had zero problems and nearly done 60k of driving. However, I believe, the off road review was not realistic. Each car seemed to be tested in 4H (except the Everest?). The MU-X in 4H still engages the ESC, engine traction control (ETC) and brake traction control (BTC). In 4L however, it turns off the ESC and ETC, letting the BTC do its job. Its similar for the Fortuner which has a superior 4L BTC system compared to all the other vehicles in its class. For off road, the Fortuner is the pick, hands down (yes, even coming from an MU-X owner). I've been off road with the Everest and my MU-X in the VIC high country, where the Everest struggled on a steep hill incline even with all its off road tech and diff lock, the MU-X walked straight up with no problems...

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're right - all were tested in 4H, but the Everest has permanent AWD so it's in a sort of 4H mode anyway. We found the high speed driving on dirt was the MU-X's high point among these models, where the Fortuner was pretty good in the more hardcore stuff, as you'd expect.

      go put your bum in a pajero sport and take it off road. after the wifey and i went around and tested all these one by one, we found the sport to be the best.....and as for off road, the sport beats all the others hands down. did you know that the gls and exceed models both have a rear diff lock too??.....nothing was said about the sport's super select II 4wd system....it is a true 4wd suv in that it has a proper low range. you can also switch between 2H and 4H on the go without having to stop, great for sudden wet conditions.

    Love the Rexton! Great Korean built car. Will get one as soon as I'm able. I think the mid spec ELX (still with leather seats and a lot of goodies) is probably better off road then the Ultimate on test in this review. The 20" wheels on the Ultimate make it not ideal for 4x4ing. However, the ELX (with smaller 18" rims) is a beast and a very capable offroader.

Would have loved if you had included the Maxus D90. It would have competed well in practicality. The cabin is great, good spec and technological advanced. Safety is quite thorough. Not sure about power train, fuel use and driving experience across the other contenders. Hope you guys can review it and ofcourse rate it against these 5 Utes. Thank you guys. 👍🏾💪🏾

    If I'm not mistaken the Pajero Sport is also the only vehicle in this test that can run on 2H or 4H on the bitumen with it having offorad settings of 4H center diff lock, 4L center diff lock and if you get a GLS upwards it also has a standard rear diff lock but that disengages the traction control.
    The gearbox ratios also make amazing use of the little 4 cyl engine, mine never struggles and its surprisingly quick......for a diesel 4x4.

    I have had three Pajeros, but the last one was a 2004 model so things will have changed. Mitsubishi is just as reliable as Toyota and the fact that the Pajero has an eight speed box and is able to drive on the bitumen in four wheel drive, makes it a winner in my experience. I would like to see a bigger motor in the Pajero, but the transmission tips it in my favor. The Pajero is also very well priced.

    Had a pleasure of driving Pajero Sport for few days and was very impressed. The major fault that drove me nuts was that cabin central column styling. They made the top of it wider by adding some silver winglets that restrict leg space pushing driver's knee to the right (same for front passenger). Feeling it with hand shows that apart from looks it serve no purpose - just styling. Could do without it and getting back ~ 40-50 mm extra width on both side of the column. Tail lights look odd as well but that is different story.
    The review here was a decent piece of work, thank you !

    Nice review, but you've left out one extremely important aspect: We are talking about vehicles that were designed to take you just about anywhere (and bring you back home!) but what about the spare wheel? Most manufacturers lost the ability to think independently, and blindly followed the "space saving spare wheel" idiocracy. When I'm on a safari trip in Namibia e.g., and have to use the spare wheel when the nearest service centre is more than 100km (sand and lose gravel surface) away, I don't think that I'm doing the transmission a favour when one of the wheels is cutting into the soft surface while the other three are experiencing totally different traction conditions.
    But the point that I want to make, is that the Rexton that I owned years ago had a novel feature: a fully fledged spare wheel was mounted in a sunken compartment underneath the luggage boot, taking up very little boot space and only accessible when the tailgate was open: no chance for theft, and dust free. Does any of the other SUV's offer that?

    Everest is the best by far. In Ambiente you lose a bit of value but i negotiated the trend (mid spec) down to $56k brand new. So if it was that Spec, it would be a different story by a margin. You get what you pay for 👍 My girlfriend has the pajero sport exceed and after driving my Everest i cant live with her car. The turbo lag, speakers, wierd anchorage points and cabin space is awful (for a 6 foot bloke). The leather trim is however nice. Even though she is short and doesnt struggle for space in the driver seat, she prefers to drive my Everest and calls it the beast. Good review by the way!

    The ISUZU MU-X has a premium version, the LST, that was excluded from the comparison. Why?. !!!!!
    Many of the features lacking in the basic version shown here, are present in the LST version. So this comparison was purposely made unfair from the start. I love the reliability of the proven Isuzu engine and transmission and their resale value (which was not even mentioned). If you are not after a high tech sophisticated vehicle, you cannot ignore the MU-X, and do not forget to look at the LST version of the MU-X.

    • @grahambosel4724

      Having owned an MUX LST, I like the leather seats & interior, 18" wheels, the truck like donk and feel, the fold down video over the middle seats keeps grandkids entertained and it's secure ride on dirt roads. Ours had the Tour Mate pack with bull bar & tow bar for a coupla grand extra. Not a flash SUV with plastic interior but user friendly so check out the LST.

      As an avid Toyota user, I find the new Fortuner disappointing! While its egress is surely, undoubtedly handsome-looking, the specs -- when compared with the other SUVs in its category given its brand & price -- are underwhelming & not really compelling.
      It's a good upgrade to the older versions of Fortuner -- and that's for sure -- but compared to its competitors, I will have to think it through if I will choose Fortuner over, say, Montero Sports, even Nissan Terra, or Ford Everest.

  • @maxbett8845
    @maxbett8845 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I went the Everest Ambiente. Even though it has less shiny bits, the way it drives, the engine, gear box and overall feel leave the rest for dead. Fortuner is gutless and those third row seats are ridiculous. (I'm 6'4) Mitsubishi has a really uncomfortable centre console that cuts into your left leg. Also turbo lag. Exceed is really nice if you're short. Didn't try the Isuzu or Ssan. My mates with Isuzu's love them. Exhaust and tune and they are another level.

    • @carsguide
