- Welcome to the world's BIGGEST 4WD SUV drag race! We get EVERY 4WD SUV we can get our hands on to see which is quickest across the drag strip. We also let Chat GPT figure out the groupings. Join Paul Maric to see which is quickest!
Our criteria for this test was the availability of 7 seats, along with low-range. The only vehicles of the 15 that meet this criteria we couldn't get were the LDV D90 (they didn't want to participate), the new Range Rover (was unavailable) and the Land Rover Discovery Sport (also unavailable).

I felt the driver in patrol missed the start.
Plenty of road tests that have had Patrols 0-100 times in the sixes over the years. Clearly they didn't want a 13 year old platform showing up the new overpriced Toyota junk.

Just a quick note because a few of you have asked! The criteria for this test was 7 seats, along with low-range. We have every car on sale in Australia that meets that criteria with the exception of the LDV D90 (LDV declined to be involved), Land Rover Discovery (wasn't available) and Range Rover (wasn't available).

an SRT, could e a very close race, but a Trackhawk? No chance...
HOWEVER, the trackhawk cant go offroad, the Defender V8 and SRT still can, so id say its a fair test

What I've been waiting for years
I made an odd noise when I heard the Grand Cherokee L had that 3.6L V6... Can barely believe it's an option. My workaday GM 3.6 is 4 years old and is good for 50Nm more torque and just as much power on 91 RON.

Wow it's awesome drag race you got 3 winners from 3 races (i.e.,12 cars) I almost supported to Ford Everest v6 turbo diesel produces 250 ps and 600nm of torque and Toyota fortuner 2.8 and I'm glad to see all the 4wd cars at a time

I feel like the patrol could perform much better than it did in this video. 3rd place however isn't too shabby for something starting to feel a bit long in the tooth.

I appreciate that there's a lot of effort to muster this cohort of SUVs for testing but it would be even better if you can split them into two classes, medium and heavy duty. I looked at the 0-100 ladden result almost line up perfectly with the class division that I suggest, those medium duty ones won't make it to 100 except Everest which happen to be borderline in both spec and price. VW touareg can be a very interesting one to add as it roks (pun not intended) the relatively older VW V6 diesel which were in the old Amarok.

To this day..isuzu 3liter engine still impress me after all these years...
Really love the fortuner's performance for its price. On the lower bracket (in the rank) it definitely shows how filthy its torque is when rolling was surprised with its performance compared to the other diesel-powered vehicles in the video (excluding the 300 and RD 110 ofcourse 😂). Thank you so much for this wonderful video, kudos for the effort and quality💯💯💯

Your 2022 review on the Patrol it posted 6.48 0-100, yet here we have it a full second slower 7.49 🤨 A little parity would go a long way in these tests.

If LDV were challenged to race a horse and cart they would most likely decline, especially if reliability was a factor.

On more than one occasion on horseback the beast has decided ‘nope, I’m going to stop to take a shit’, or ‘I don’t want you on my back today, therefore you won’t be’. Machines have taken over the role of primary transportation for many good reasons.

Patrol was getting gapped though as it was rolling, power is similar but the Lexus has alot more torque being a turbo and better transmission.

The D300 110 surprised me with just how fast it is, V8 110 not withstanding.

Not sure if youve tried but in my extensive testing of new a8 a10 and even older a6 transmissions its almost always faster to flash the converter than to come up on the converter by brake torque'ing it. Try a 0 to 30 or 0 to 60 by foot braking on the converter and then not but stomping the gas pedal with no brake. It works on lower powered or high weight and traction vehicles. Obviously on a automatic sports car that rear wheel its got enough power to over come traction and therefore brake torque'ing works better. One note is its harder to get the count just right. They all have drive by wire throttle bodies and the programming of how much power they give is different. Sometimes making brake torque a better option but its rarely faster 0 to 60

I'm surprised the MUX beat the Everest Trend. It sure doesn't on paper. I have a new MUX and still have my 3.2 trend and it's the transmission that just hooks up and goes that seems to be the difference.
Also everest had a bad launch
