    Here we step you through how to install a reverse camera on the Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ or Scion FR-S. This shows how to integrate it to the factory screen but the installation would be the same for an aftermarket stereo for the most part minus the 4pin plug to RCA that plugs into the factory stereo.

    OH YEAH! This was extremely helpful. Made my installation super easy. He shows how to get thru the all the not-so-obvious routing opportunities, which panels need to be popped out, where to hide and protect the cables. I have USA LHD model so I ran wiring under steering column to head unit but otherwise US model wires run exactly the same way. So glad I spent an afternoon installing the backup Camera; it's worth it! The camera sees way more than you can see in the mirrors.

    Exceptionally good step-by-step tutorial. Many other DIY's on YT show power to the camera via reverse light hot wire, not taking into account the ECM remembering the device.

    I like the full demonstration video but I like to give you some feedback and say that maybe installing the camera first to the unit would be best so you know the camera is not defective and work before you drill a hole in the back.

    My plan isn't to integrate into a factory system as mine is an early unit without the touch screen. I'm using an aftermarket unit, but I'll be using this as a guide for routing the camera cable through the car. Excellent instructions.

    I am looking at buying this kit but I have a few questions. 1, if I were to install an aftermarket head unit such as the Kenwood DDX920WDABS(from the kit you sell), do I still need to solder the wire. 2 as a person with no soldering or wiring experience, would it be easier to use a crimp or posi tap and if I did, what size tap would be required for these wires. Thanks

    Two months ago build in a DX Chinese HD 170 Degree Car Rearview Parking Backup Reverse Camera for 9 € and bought a 16 wire extension with video lead (20€ ) for the radio and it worked like a charm. My Europe car radio was different than in this video. So it seems I saved near 100 € . only thing was the wire for the cam was a bit short so made a splice before installing in the booth. greetzzzz PM for details if your interested

    The camera cable length (the slim connection) is too short on mine and doesn't reach the gromet that goes from the boot lid to the boot itself so it can't be fed through cause the other half of the cable is too thick. I'm gonna have to cut the car length cable and feed the chopped half though that gromet

    I have a question I was hoping you'd be able to answer for me. The red/silver wire you soldered onto for power... you claimed it was Accessory Power, correct? My question for you is does that Acc Pwr get switched back off when you start the car? So what I'm getting to is: does the camera then turn off once the ignition is no longer set in Acc mode? Sorry, in advance, for my ignorance as to how ignitions work in a push-to-start vehicle.

    • @AutoChimp_Electronics
      @AutoChimp_Electronics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the camera turns off when the cars turned off. This is actually standard for all Toyotas they designed their camera to always be on when the cars on. This is also why we suggest a good quality camera as it is technically always active. Cheap ones burn out. Its only the screen that flicks over when put in reverse.

    • @XArtisan
      @XArtisan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Carbon,
      Is it possible to view this camera even when not in reverse?

    Just installed this but as usual it was nowhere near as simple as it looks when pros do it. Install in the boot to the footwell was relatively straight fwd. I struck issues when trying to get the head unit out far enough to access the ACC wire described as red in the video but which is actually red/silver spots. I’m thinking CarbonCarSystems have had their unit in and out many times and have released the stereo loom to the point where their head unit comes out as far as it does in the video.
    If your car is a virgin with regard to the head unit being removed it comes out a fraction of the distance shown in the video, and there is no way known one could cut then solder the cameras red wire to the acc wire with this little space. Keep in mind that these are not wires you want to put to much force or strain on. Using a far better quality wire tap I had left over from another project, that incorporated a female spade connector in the housing, I was able to complete the install.
    The camera itself works fine but just be prepared for a little more effort and bitching when you attempt this.
    Oh an use masking tape or similar on the silver pieces that are on both sides of the climate control to protect them. I managed to scratch mine slightly while trying to get the head unit far around to the left to get to the ACC wire. Fixed with a silver touch up paint pen so all good.

    • @XArtisan
      @XArtisan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because their loom has been cut it will fall out further because the wires aren't bound. It clearly shows in the video the wire is red with silver spots..not sure how you missed that, unless you're blind. Don't know why you had to use another wire. A twist job with tape would've done it good enough
