I love being gay and I would never change. I'm also autistic. I belong to 2 amazing communities. Being part of them has taught me a lot of valuable lessons and I have met a lot of wonderful people I've been able to share my experiences with. What I love about being gay is: 1-I don't have to worry about getting anyone pregnant. 2-I am more aware of what social pressure is and therefore know how to tell between personal needs and goals, and rules dictated by society. 3-I have been able to develop more empathy towards other people because I have felt vulnerable in the past and I don't want others to feel the same way. There are more points but I can't think of all of them right now 😅😂. I loved your video! It's very inspiring and supportive. Every single gay man should watch it. Thank you for sharing your views with all of us! Sending hugs and kisses ❤️❤️😘😘🤗🤗🫂🫂xoxoxoxo

I love being Gay, It gives me a very different lens to view the world through and allows me to better understand those who are different or marginalized. I'm aware that as a Gay white male in the Pacific NW I am very privileged to not face many of the challenges Queer people face but it has allowed me to create conversation with those who do not understand people in our community.
I wish more people could understand and see that being different from the norm is one of the greatest powers you can have.

What I hate about being gay: Being judged by your looks and your body and your income and your clothes and where you live and the kind of car you drive and your education. Being ignored on gay apps because my BMI is more than 25%. Being made to feel inferior if I'm past a certain age or live far outside a major city. Being part of a lifestyle that includes cruising and the whole cruising culture which I never felt comfortable with and found creepy and nasty to be looking for sex in the woods or bathrooms or the gym. Wish I were straight.

*This is such an important point you raise James!*
The complicated relationship many of us have with shame is so incredibly complex and interwoven with our sense of identity, and deeply crippling with such long-lasting effects in so many different ways for each and every one of us. I really hope Matin will consider this as a potential future topic for discussion, as it’s not talked about enough.
Talking of which, to you, Matin (and anyone else reading this that it resonates with), please *PLEASE* go and order yourselves a copy of *“Straightjacket - Overcoming Society’s Legacy of Gay Shame”* by my friend Matthew Todd. I promise each and every one of you that it will be one of the most profoundly important and helpful LGBTQ books you’ll ever read and you’ll likely find yourself recommending it to your own social circles and chosen families.

It’s not an easy read in places, but that’s what makes it so brilliant and such a rare thing.
Please do come back here in the weeks/months ahead and let me know what you thought of it. I would really love to know.

I don't hate being gay. I love myself. I'm a good decent person & am completely ok with being gay -- because in the UK & these times it is more accepted. But . . . I DO wish that I hadn't been born gay. My childhood, adolescence & 20's would have been so much easier. The 80s were great (!) but, being gay in the 60s & 70s was not. It was a huge struggle . . . & a struggle that I wish I hadn't had to go through. My life would have been so much easier if I had been straight. Absolutely no question.

Great, sensible comment . I agree. It's an age thing. Many young people have no understanding of the difficulties and struggles people like you and I have had to live through. Young gays have been handed an easy life on a plate. Life for gays, even in the West, wasn't ever thus. But good luck to them.

@@matraeisi Thank you! Life for gays now is so much easier than it used to be. When I was growing up in the UK, one simply didn't speak about homosexuality in polite society. It was the love that dare not speak its name! It is probably hard for you to believe me when I say this, but if the word homosexual (usually "homo" or "puffta") was mentioned, everyone would fall silent! A hush would come over the room! People were simply not comfortable speaking about it. Homosexuality was often regarded as something dirty that naughty men would get up to in public toilets! Polite well-brought-up people were not expected to engage in such activities. In fact, in the UK, homosexuality was a criminal offence until 1967. One could be jailed for "indecent" homosexual offences! In 1967, the 'Sexual Offences Act' was passed which decriminalised sexual acts for men over the age of 21. The age of consent was reduced to 18 in 1994.
So you see, Matin, the free world you experience today is a relatively new thing, even here in the West. But beware! There is still a lot of homophobia about; and it is growing. In the USA and in parts of Europe, especially eastern Europe.
By the way, you have a lovely channel. You also have a lovely manner in the videos. It is a pleasure to listen to you speaking in them. Good luck with it. Love and peace to you.

@@sufyanlowel4631 Thank you, Sufyan. There's plenty of homophobia around, I believe. But not so much where I live and also not so much because of how I live. I live a very quiet, peaceful life. I am very careful whom I mix with. Were I to get bad vibes from someone, I would give that person a wide berth.

I personally think it's 50 50, there are good and bad things about being homosexual or heterosexual, and of course we have to focus on the good things. In my experience of making friends of both sexual orientations I have actually felt better treated by straight people, they have given me more of a sense of brotherhood than gay people. The times when I started to make friends from the LGBTQ community I imagined I would've felt more comfortable with them, but it was the contrary, I don't know if it has been bad luck but they have all been individualistic narcissists who only care about their own interests and who believed they were the last coke in the desert 😂. However, I don't hate being homosexual but I neither love it, it is just 50 50.
PD: It is awesome to know other people's point of view, since that lets me know there is much more than just what I have experienced.

What i love about being gay??, I feel like there's way more things that i hate about it, when i ask myself what i love about being gay i have to think really hard, maybe being gay makes me an open minded person in a way that it taught me to be more empathetic and compassionate towards other people because you never know their story, and also it taught me to always try to see everything from different sides or point of view, you know how in society, people always have this negative thoughts towards gay people, and what they say is actually not true, im nothing like that, so it always makes me take everything i see on media with a grain of salt, also maybe feeling capable of liking or loving someone is good enough to be included as smth i like about it??, Idk I guess that's all, execpt that, i feel like living life as a gay guy is a curse, especially if you were born in a religious family and be religious yourself, the self hatred, the struggle I've gone through for years till I'm finally able to accept myself, even when I've come to terms with my sexuality,it doesn't really get better???, Ok now I'm gay, so what?? Let's try finding a boyfriend??, I feel like at this point finding someone is impossible, people don't look for deep connection, they just want to have one night stand, i used to be like ok it's ok you're gay, as long as you don't tell anyone, and you Don't have sex with anyone, and then it's changed to "ok i wanna do it, but only with the one i love", and then it's changed to " fck it , im just gonna do it like everyone else"... This pas few days, i haven't really felt like myself, all this situation really has changed me to be the person i was always afraid to be, or maybe it's just me, maybe it's my fault because i was too religious??, Maybe if i wasn't, i would enjoy my life more as a gay guy??,i don't know, i just had my first hookup 2 weeks ago, and i feel very terrible 😭😭, why can't i enjoy things without having to feel guilty, i don't even know why I'm commenting like this, i just don't have anyone to talk to

I love that I am an out and proud gay man. I’ve never felt or have ever been ashamed of my sexuality. Of course when I was younger I didn’t understand why I was “different” but I just assumed I was biologically attracted to men even though I had no idea that there were many other folks out there just like me. However, as a teenager I began to learn through books and magazines that there were lots of folks just like me. By the time I was in my twenties I was dating meeting and developing life long gay friends who are my family of choice. There are some things in my life that I regret not doing, mainly not following my career dream. However, I have zero regret about being an out and proud gay man and have always felt blessed I came into this world gay. ❤

yes!! I feel the same way, like in some ways the challenges of being gay are also in some ways some of the things that make us stronger. We know how to support each other, and being gay means you get to have a chosen family even if your biological family isn't accepting of you. Also most gay people I know tend to be so much more interesting than your average straight person, we all have our struggles and our stories to tell, and that means we are confronted with life circumstances that force us to be introspective, but at the same time to know the importance of cultivating joy. When I was younger I used to say things like I hate being gay, but now that I'm a little bit older (and hopefully wiser) I would not trade it for anything in the world.
