I have never felt comfortable at bars, gay or straight. I probably feel more uncomfortable at gay bars because I never feel good enough to be there. I was hit on once at a gay bar and it was not a good experience. I think, like a lot of things in the gay community, you have to be good looking to have fun at gay bars or anything gay related. I'm not good looking or rich (plus I don't drink) so in my experience being at anything gay related can be a very lonely experience.
I understand where you’re coming from as I Don’t drink myself am only able to carry my own weight financially and do feel like I’m not good enough for these spaces(maybe I should make a video on this sometime)...but I’m really shocked that you think you’re not good looking! You’re extremely handsome from what I can see on your profile picture! I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that you’re a 10/10

I don't consider myself good looking but I've always done (or rather, 'did', I'm 74 now) well at gay bars/clubs. However I always could figure out what obscured my worst bits and accentuated my best - what styles suited me and which didn't etc. One time I was approached by an extremely good looking guy and I asked him why he came up to me (after we'd done the deed, I don't self-sabotage). He said that he'd noticed that everyone around me always seemed to be having so much fun.
Since being a small, skinny, spotty, poor kid I learned that making people laugh makes you popular and being able to shut someone down with a smart put down soon stopped people picking on me. Self deprecating jokes are something people also enjoy. Attractiveness and self-confidence (fake it till you make it - it's a self-fulfilling prophecy) are in the eyes of the beholders and takes many forms. Find your strengths and play to them. We all have them. My self-confidence grew as I spent as little time as I could in front of mirrors since I never liked what I saw. I always zeroed in on my lifelong acne. Instead I took my reflection from other people's reactions to me. In the end I was never as ugly as I thought I was or as attractive as others thought I was. Find You. Be You. Like You. There will always be someone there who likes You if you show them who You are.

Guess when they were running after me. When young i was too afraid to approach a guy i liked. Mature i approached anyone. 9 Out of 10 complied. Now i’m 65. Still doing ok bút i really want a relationship with my own age group. Have always wanted a man.
That remains a big problem and i fear more loneliness.
I am sooooo sorry that you went through this. So ugly! I had a bartender stand up for me when someone tried to follow me to the bathroom. I know the feeling. Keep your morals as they are. Stay kind.

A note on gay friendships. I've often thought I had close gay male friends until I depended on them. Rarely did they want to be inconvenienced when I asked them to help me out. There are always exceptions but they are rare. The other side of that coin was friends who would be dating my so-called friends seem to think it was OK to hit on me when their partner's backs were turned. I've never had a gay friend behave how I would have behaved had the situation been reversed.
Never experienced this myself but I’ve actually heard it a lot and it’s really really concerning…
There is alot of promiscuity in the gay community. Men sleeping with whoever and whatever they come across. Everyone is viewed as a sex object and they are never satisfied. It's a bottomless pit of overindulgence and sexual deviance. The goal is to get laid not form bonds and meaningful friendships. One gay guy said he stopped dating because "men ain't shit ". I'll say men without integrity and moral compass will only seek self gratification and not know how to show love to others.

Although I grew up in New York City, I went to college in a hick town. My roommate, as it turned out, was gay. I didn’t even know what “gay” meant - I thought it was where you go to great parties, and people look like Fred Astaire & Ginger Rodgers! It was the 1970s, completely different from the situation in 2024, and I didn’t know anything at all. He and his friends invited me along to a gay bar, where I thought I’d meet guys and girls who were dressed very sophisticated! I was good-looking when I was young (that was a LONG time ago), so everyone was checking me out, and I didn’t understand why. There were no seats/tables remaining, so I stood by the wall on the dance floor, and then I noticed the guys were dancing with the guys! Ok, no problem, especially since my roommate was dancing with a guy too. So I finally realized what’s a gay bar 😂 Then another guy slides up beside me, and asks me to dance. I said, no thanks, I’m just here with some friends. He didn’t give up though, so he tried to make a conversation: what are you studying? I said, finance-accounting. He said, oh, you mean Jewish Engineering. I walked away. Many MANY years later, I went on a tour of Italy, and some of the other tourists were gay (I am divorced), and they wanted to stop at a gay bar. I hadn’t been to one since 1974, so I thought this oughta be a riot! My “companion” that evening was a young fit Australian, and when we walked in, all eyes turned to him. I’m sure they were wondering what he was doing with a fat old geezer like me! I went back to the hotel after a few minutes because I’m sure he wanted to meet somebody, and I didn’t want to “cock block,” is that the right phrase? Looking back, these stories are still funny to me 😅
Great story!!!!loved reading it😂 you know what’s funny? The first time I went to a gay club a guy asked me to dance with him but I felt shy and told him I have a boyfriend😭 still to this day I regret lying and not dancing with him!
I Don’t know if you regret walking away at that time or not but it was cool to see the experience was somewhat similar😅
personally I, and many other guys find having lots of experience and lots of beef at the same time very attractive so maybe you shouldn’t have left to the hotel and had some fun for yourself!

@@matraeisi I was afraid that I droned on too long, so I’m glad you liked it! No, no regrets at all. I did some experimenting in college, but I’m (mostly) straight, and even have grandchildren! No regrets about the Australian friend in Italy - at my age, “fun” is getting a good night’s sleep, no hanky-panky. Those days are in the past, so enjoy it while you’re young. Btw, I am still good friends with my college roommate. He married that same boyfriend when it became legal, and they’ve been together for 50 years. That’s way longer than my marriage, but that’s a whole different story!

good story - thanks - I find it refreshing to hear a young gay guy aware of his boundaries and holding himself with such a chill manner. You have much to offer and a strong sense of your Self. My bar/club period was the early 80s specifically 1982-1985.
I had a blast, several hookups, but mainly I went to dance!!! The music of that period was fabulous..... disco and hiNRGY.
The heads turning experience is at the same time flattering and unsettling, honestly. ^_^'

First off, love the lighting, etc. for the video. Looks good and you look handsome as always. Now back to the story you shared. Man that must have been awkward! Not cool that you got put into that situation but luckily dude wasn't going to be able to get you into that bathroom. I remember when I first walked into the "biggest, best" Gay bar in town when I turned 21. (Even though I was able to get in to other bars before then with my doctored ID). I was this short Twink that looked young for my age and was amazed at all that I was seeing. Within minutes of being in there I get introduced to a couple of drag queens. One of them asked me: "Do you pluck your eyebrows?", Me: "No...", Them: "B*tch!'" and just walked away. It's how I knew I was home.

I remember my first gay bar experience! I hadn’t been out all that long, and a few acquaintances of mine took me to this one bar, propped me up on a stool and said, “Okay, just sit here awhile and observe.” They did check in on me a few times, but after 45 minutes, they asked, “So, what do you think?” I replied: “Take me home. I’ve wasted an entire evening here - I could have been practicing (I’m a pianist) or reading. I don’t belong here.” No one - aside from my acquaintances - spoke to me. No one tried to drag me off to the restroom - hey, if someone had, at least I could have told Mrs. Strakosh that things were looking up. Obviously, I never went back. Don’t do bars - don’t drink, absolutely despise small talk and can’t stand the noise. My husband’s story is rather similar. We’ve been together 22 years and legally married for 18 - and no, we didn’t meet in a bar. Oh, that bar I was taken to closed a long time ago - I would imagine the AIDS epidemic did that place in.

Not all gay bars are the same. They vary a LOT in clientele, themes, etc. But, in general, I love gay bars--it's really nice to be with our community. 🙂

I have to say that being with a "Mean gay" can drain your energy out fast. You can feel your eye's bag tired and your brain just numb. In that situation, you just need to be at home in your bed sleeping like a baby. He pulls your hand insisting to follow you to a bathroom, that's like a child's attempt to force someone. Really need advice.
Iam in my early 30s been through some realtionshits, thought i wanted nothing to do with love anymore, but recently i stumbled upon someone out of the blue, we started talking and we had some real chemistry mentally n physically, we have been communicating for about two weeks now, just learning about each other, i feel like this could really work but somehow i feel he is holding back so i pull myself in aswell.... Oh you poor baby, you had to fight off a sexual assault, gained a stalker, and had a bad blind date all within 45 minutes. I have been to four gay bars here in NYC a handful of times, and each time it terrible experience for me. I prefer the straight bars, myself.

In my experience, gay bars remind me of highschool. I haven't been to one in years and don't plan on it. I never got pulled into a bathroom but I have experienced the mean judging, side eyes, and cattiness. It's nasty. I thought they would be more welcoming, I was very wrong.

I have a friend who I kinda sorta suspect wants to drag me into a gay bar and see what happens next. Not for his sake by the way, he's straight and implied several times during our conversations that he wanted to do the matchmaker or the wingman for me.
The thing is that I'm an introverted (and probably on the spectrum) guy who doesn't like crowds, noisy places, small talk, and have no idea how to flirt. Also I never set a foot into a gay bar, I probably don't belong there anyway...
But I do wonder what would happen in this situation.
If he really liked you he should have asked you out on a date rather than trying to get in your pants. For me the most fun thing to do at a bar is dance; because it is such a stress reliever.

In my very early days I went to a pub/disco near my home; a good friend came in on his very first visit to a gay disco uand he nearly died when he saw me there. He left in a hurry before I saw him. He phoned his wife and asked her advice; she said 'Well, he's got to know eventually so you had better go back in!'.

@@matraeisi One of my Persian friends is now studying for PhD in Montreal, Canada. He couldn’t be happier getting out of his oppressive country. He is a free citizen now but he is not a free man until he graduates. It’s something in electronics that I don’t understand. He will be able to visit the USA once he’s free of Iran. He is a great friend and is so very kind. He is going to learn Canadian French when he has more time. His English is almost as good as yours. He’s also a Bisexual top with a preference for men.
