My coming out story before the military/advice for others

  • Theres still so much more I wish I could have said in this video like, If someone doesn't accept you for you, they aren't your real friend. And being gay isn't something that should define you. It's just like being polish, Italian, German. There are so many things about you that make you who you are and you shouldn't let this one thing stop you from being yourself. It's not something that you should base your life off of. A lot has changed in my life since I have made a video, and I wasn't even confident about posting this but I thought someone out there could benefit from what I have to say and from my experiences. I originally recorded it for myself to look back and reflect but I knew that there was a possibility of me posting it so I kept that in mind while recording. I also wanted to record this because I joined the US Navy and I wanted to document more of my life before I shipped off. Im sorry for the length of the video but thanks for watching if you watched it all.

Life is not about being Straight or “not straight”, black or white or yellow or blue, Republicans or Democrats, Religious or not religious, rich or poor, with or without University. Life is about be a good or a bad human being. Be a good person will define you in a much better way. Be safe! Respect your feelings. Change what you, and only you think that is needed to be better. Do not break yourself in the society rules. The society always need time to change. But you have probably just 100 years to do it. Take your time. If you can not do yet: “ don't do it”. Give yourself time. Your time. Not the others time. Best regards...

Hi there, thanks for sharing your story with us. I knew I was gay since I can think. I never had a coming out because I never felt it was necessary. My parents knew I was gay all the time but never talked much about it. At school I wasn't bullied I believe because although being gay I was the average teen like all my schoolmates. At last I just wanted to say you're handsome and smart and I wish the best for you.

Hi Austin. I thought I was the only one Praying to be straight. You are on the rite road. If anything I say stays with you just remember one thing ... Be true to yourself. You are put on this Earth for a reason. Some straight, some gay and so many others. You sound like such a loveable and genuine person. Don't EVER let anyone try to change that. You are Young, You are Beautiful and most of all you seem very smart, Please, ignore the haters. You are so much above them pay NO attention. I have been down you road many times so take it from may I say a Friend. Just remember one thing ... God doesn't make mistakes. You are just how he wanted you. I will close with my Very Best to you and yours, Jim

Jim, are u serious? Millions and millions of us prayed desperately to be straight. In my case, I kept with the same prayers for at least 20 years. By then I realized that religion has nothing to do with personal truth.

You can never know the deep impact of your story on thousands of people you will never meet or know, so don’t stop telling your truth. It’s going to impact the way your friends and family respect each other, treat each other, love each other. Same with strangers who listen to your story. You’re changing the way we will live our lives, and the way we inspire and impact the world around us. So the ripples from your story keep moving out and helping build a better world. Thanks.

Thank you Austin. I am Spanish living abroad, and your message is clear and strong, but I prefer not to say to anybody, except my closest friend. Not everyone is open minded like you, and things can turn out wrong. So I keep my senses open to persons in general. Your story is to say the truth after learning about yourself, and that is deep and big for such a young person. I wish you all the best, man.❤️

Hey Austin... Thanks for sharing. Absolutely the best coming out story I've heard. I wish I'd been so self aware and brave. I'm not out to my family per day but like your mother said, mother's are always aware. I came from a strong catholic back ground and was taught to hate myself, so naturally I didn't want to upset the family. Like you I knew I was gay from a young age and suppressed it. I've been out to friends and co workers since I retired from the military. I've been talking to a young man for the past year and hopefully he is the one. Only time will tell.

Oh Austin, such an interesting and heart-warming story of your struggles with your identity. I'm so glad that you're 18 and growing up in these times of acceptance, at least in your country, mine and many others, but not all. I'm Australian, now 77 with my 27 year relationship with my male partner, meaning that I lived a solitary, not lonely, life up to the age of 50. I knew I was gay at the age of 14 but didn't come out to society until my early 30's, such were the times back then. My parents didn't know I was gay, I tried several times to let them know, but the vibes I got, they just didn't want to know, so I didn't tell them except after my father passed away at 94, I told my mother who was 90, and she wasn't fussed or surprised, then she passed away shortly after. I wish I had told them earlier but, as I say, different times, different circumstances. So, listening to your story, reminded me so much of my emotions growing up, as you say, it's not easy, but I'm glad you're dealing with it now and not 60 years ago. Cheers and best wishes for a fulfilling and happy life. Also, I hope you get to read this; cheers again.

Every single moment in your 'today' is linked to the moment just a moment ago. If I hadn't ** I wouldn't be and so on it goes, from childhood to the grave. Going through all the doors that life offers you. Follow on with some, back out of others. It's all an adventure and it is always "your adventure" even if you are linked to someone else. You will become a very wise old man and smile at all the struggles more than at the high-points.

  • @putrahalik9530

Well the thing that I highlighted in this video is your attitude. I do really like the way you talk it. It's pure and honest. I feel sorry for what you had been through. Your story is same as mine. The different is that I will never be able to come out here. Our society is too conservative. It's extremely unacceptable to be different, otherwise you will be worthless, useless and no one will respect you as a man. And I can't help it. I hope that I can have somebody to talk to. It will ease my burden.

I hope you have that, too. You need someone to talk with. It’s imperative. If you are a younger person, realize that things can change very rapidly and unexpectedly. A lot of us have said ‘never’ only to be surprised later. Stay well.

Your coming out video popped up in the videos the TH-cam algorithm suggested I watch. Your honesty really drew me in. I wish I had the wisdom and courage to have come out 50 years ago like you have, but that is regret something that can't be changed. I took a different path -- got married, had three kids, and only came out 20 years ago. I'm now divorced, and don't have a partner. That has made me feel like I've lived an incomplete life -- yet it also is a reminder that the biggest gift any of us can have is to live a genuine life. That's the real freedom we get from coming out. You learned that in your teens, and you are a role model to all of us who struggle with our sexuality in our lives. I'm going to save your video to show others who struggle and also show it to those who think, wrongly, that being gay is a "choice" that we can turn on and off. Thanks again!

This is one of the GREAT videos on TH-cam. And so extremely generous to give us so much of yourself.❤
It is so important for other teens and preteens to watch.
And, if you decide to, it is obvious that you will be an awesome father. In any future constellation of your life.
Thanks for this great video and I really wish you a fantastic life ahead❤❤❤❤❤❤
