- Currently feel the best combo is what I have, the PPE Zilla Pipe with PPE Elbow and a K&N air filter with the factory box. HOWEVER, I am always willing to try things again and this time I will attempt the S&B intake one more time....

Demonworks- The leader in the 3.0
Litre TH-cam space. Thanks for the feedback!!! Oh and the extra screws haha way to reignite past install anxiety
Did the S&B Intake with the PPE Zilla pipe on my 23 Trailboss LT LZ0. Left the bottom input open as well as I am in NY and there really isn't any crazy dust. Love the noise on it and like the intake itself. I also didn't use the pipe as I was running the PPE Zilla with my stock box but i have really enjoyed the air intake so far. Pretty great so far.
btw the screws are in the instructions to keep the new rubber stoppers on the intake box itself unlike the stock ones that tend to pry off as your slipping in the box in and out.
OHHHHHHHHH !!!! haha, thanks for that info !
Great video! Just ordered my S&B.
I have the S&B sitting in the garage waiting to be installed, however I feel like I should roll with the PPE pipe now! Great video.
Exactly what I’m running, wanted this setup for noise and looks. Who really buys these mods expecting a big mpg boost? I’ll get my mpg boost when I’m able to delete my government juice lol. Great vid man👍🏼
Nice! I run the k&n drop-in from from your previous recommendation. I also added 2 cotton filters layers that come on the oem style paper filter to the k&n to catch extra sand dirt and debris.
Side question: Have you driven the 6.6l gas? It looks like its specced kinda close to our 3.0s but with 400 hp instead of 310. Ive been looking at picking up a 3500 drw 66, but dont know if the extra 90 hp will make a big difference towing. Thanks!!
The problem I see with the open air box is a clear path for rodents to get to the paper filter. I would have to put 1/4” hardware metal cloth to prevent rodent problems.
Honestly they can get to a standard factory box, so I wouldn’t worry about that. The much larger problem however is bad MAF readings. He’s absolutely right on this and that means the engine will not run as it’s supposed to. Maybe minuscule, but still a problem
Did you just remove the few shutters that cover the trans cooler? I have a 22 refresh with LM2 and thinking of doing this. Our temps in summer here in the south can get 95+ regularly and feel this would help. No plans to do PPE trans cooler at the moment. I would do the same for the lower shutters too.
Great video man, I always watch your videos to get an idea of what I’m about to install on my Duramax. I installed this same intake on my truck and I always have a caution pop up saying “air filter needs checked” about twice month. Do you have this same problem?
Great video! Ive been considering this for my truck. I think my next upgrade is going to be some new shocks. Im due. Im looking at those rancho quick lifts.
I swapped my ranchos for Bilsteins on all four corners. Noticeable improvements on drive quality
Thanks ! Keep me informed on how those work. i ran the Eibachs and the Bilsteins, I felt the Bilstein rode the best. No experience with the Rancho Quick Lifts.
@@DemonWorks im looking at the Bilsteins as well. Looks like a better shock. Might be worth the extra money
@@SpicerDesignsLLC 100%. I did the 5110s in the rear and 6112s in the front. All together, the truck feels more planted 💪🏻
I also did 6112 front and 5100 rear on my 3.0 AT4 and I’m super happy with the ride and the level the 6112’s gave.
Where did you get the diesel cap for the tk?
Another great video. Was wondering if you can do the right way to top off coolant on the LZO. Thank you and if you have the video already let me know and I’ll find it.
Thanks for the kind words ! If you are just topping off the coolant, just fill to the marked line on the reservoir. Roughly, the middle of the reservoir. Note- the front reservoir (small one) is for the charge air cooler (mainly) and the larger reservoir at the firewall is for engine cooling)
@@DemonWorks I was confused cause in the manual it says to bleed air out etc and it seemed so confusing
Have you tried the Banks, WClabs, HSP products?
I don’t have a cold air yet for my truck and know most companies have more products for the 6.6L but one reason that would sway me towards Banks is the mass flow sensor correction. If they make one for the 3.0L I would love to see your thoughts if you haven’t already did that in a previous video.
All of the above do not make one for the 3.0 Duramax. I would prefer Banks for the airbox as well.
Darn.
@bankspower It would be great if you could design an air intake for various 3.0L vehicles like GMC full sized SuVs and Sierra. 😊
If you had to pick one, would you run the full s&b kit, or the PPE Zilla on the stock box with a drop in filter? Thanks and keep up the great work!
This is my 5th 3.0 Duramax and over those trucks/testing videos, I have found I am happy with the zilla pipe, elbow and K&N air filter with the stock box. Just like what I pulled off before this test. I do like the added noise with this S&B box, but it's still not as loud as what I had with the K&N box. Really, all I need is the Zilla pipe... factory box and filter is just fine.
24 lz0 had code p2463 pop up twice now clogged particulate filter reduced power. I have the banks i dash and have always made sure to complete regens.
After u put the S&b back is the truck still haveing trouble with regen
Does the stillen scoop hit the shutters on all the models? Or just the zr2?
Works on all models, it doesn’t actually hit the shutters, the upper shutters block the airflow and I couldn’t remove them in the zr2.
Anyone having metal glitter in fuel filter or filter housing? Of not could be the pump falling apart?
The only mod worth a damn right now for the LZ0 is a good fuel additive and cruise control lol
Cruise control?
So you are basically testing a $800 intake? Is PPE working on a complete intake system? Or does PPE believe their pipe and stock box work the best?
My current installation of parts, yes. However, the video was showing how to install the S&B and mid video I decided the lower cost part wasn't something I personally wanted to run and shared that with people so they can see that it is a great intake, just not perfect. That wasn't the intention of the video initially, but things work out how they work out. I am not sure what PPE believes is best, I do know I have not noticed a difference from removing that stock box to running this setup aside from the added noise.
So did you go this route solely for the sound then? You’ve had me convinced that the stock air box with the K&N is the best setup for performance. That’s what I’m running with the PPE elbow and carbonzilla into the PPE charge air cooler. I’ve got better than factory noise and I’m really getting great mileage. My AT4 is rated fairly low, but I’m averaging over 27mpg and I’ve been seeing trips recently at 32-34 mpg with the weather around 70 degrees outside. I’m curious to see what long term results you get with this installed.
I still believe the setup prior was the one that’s the best operational. My initial driving has shown just a noise increase. I plan on leaving this on longer to see if there are any mpg improvements. Prior testing on the LM2 showed me there were none.
Same here and liking it thus far as well. Also dropped in the Stillen air scoop.
@@DemonWorks great, thanks for doing the testing, I look forward to seeing your results! As always, useful content and we really appreciate it!
@@edgerlyb19 I neglected to mention that I am also running the Stillen. I found them many years ago and I love their product!
So I currently run the full S&B system and have a Zilla pipe I have in my garage I have not installed yet. Is it worth switching just the pipe?
I noticed a difference switching the S&B out, I think you could too.
You need the shatter to heat up the engine in real cold weather
Correct, that’s why I waited to remove the shutters.
Gotta remove my s & b to pass smog here in CA… question for you is can I leave the long s & b tube that goes to the turbo and just install the factory elbow Nd air box… will it all bolt up?
yes, you can leave that pipe installed.
@@DemonWorks made a rookie mistake and disconnected my battery while swapping everything out… how long does it take for the monitors to reset on these trucks?
@@BobbySi507 it's fairly quick on these but depends on how you drive.
I have the k&n installed in my truck. Will the zilla make it louder? I'm looking to get as much noise as I can.
Thanks
Yes, look for my other video "second best intake" or something like that.
Thanks
Your videos are very educational
What are your thoughts on the are momentum hd intake?
Garbage. the only intake I will not even remotely recommend for any reason. i tested it on multiple trucks and threw a code on each and lacked power. AFE support was garbage. Junk product and junk customer support. There's a lot more options out there.
Will the ppe Zilla pipe mount to the k and n without extra hardware?
Yes, I have a few videos showing just that. One of which is "second best intake"
@@DemonWorks cool thanks I ordered them
Are you having a mass air flow sensor problem my truck has the afe dry filter and it throws codes when it's hot and it says service emissions system
I am not. what are the codes?
I can't remember the code number
Next time I get one I'll post
It's p0101
Does anyone sell the S&B with the Zilla ? Huge price tag for buy both separately.
not that I am aware of. Just get the Zilla and use the stock airbox.
Are you selling the pPE Zika pipe and elbow?
not for sale, sorry.
Banks or OEM!
Banks doesn't amke one for these trucks and yes, oem is a good box.
I feel the same. Wish banks would finally come out with some products for the 3.0
