Talk about waste not, want not! Using an old towel & fabric scraps that might otherwise have gone into the trash bin, and getting a lovely, useful item at the end of it. I gotta try this one for sure! Many thanks for posting such a nice tutorial.
Another great idea. I have been giving all my used dish towels to my husband to use for rags. Not anymore. I will keep them and make these potholders. I am always in my kitchen cooking and baking. What an idea. Thank you so much. Sandra B.
So -- if you don't have but two towels, but some insulbright, it could be cut 8 inches square and used in the same fashion. Thank you. Stay safe. Love getting ideas from you.
I love your videos because there isn't too much measuring. Strips of fabric can be different widths. I get so hung up watching quilting videos that I'm terrified of trying something in case it is wrong. There is no wrong with what you show us. I don't need to overthink this anymore. I can just give it a try. Thank you so much.
I know exactly how you feel. I have actually started crumb piecing and making things - placemats, pot holders, a dresser scarf, cloth napkins and more to come of everything already done. Beth Shibley is my inspiration and mentor even though she doesn’t know it. She takes the fear out of quilting, replaces it with confidence.
cute, cheerful, fun. because of the absorbency & wicking, i'm concerned about the possibility of scalding, so i'd use these as hot pads on the table. relaxing tutorial, thank you !
I just realized when I went and read about you!! We are almost neighbors! I’m in Chatsworth, Ca 😊 Seems no one lives out here all back east mid west somewhere.
Love your video! My stepmother who raised me passed this past April and I kept her quilts and scraps of fabric. I’m hoping to make all of the siblings potholders out of her old material. If I use a preexisting quilt in bad shape do I just leave out the towel? Just cut the quilt and then scraps on the other side?
Wouldnt you want to do a couple of rows of quilting (by machine) diagonal corners to corners or rows of wavy stitching....just to secure the sandwich .... and keep from getting lumps when they get wet ?
After putting right sides together I sewed around leaving an opening. Then I turned it right side out before stitching around. I want the raw edges inside. 👌Hope that helps.
I have just reorganized my sewing room so I can quilt more efficiently (and find things) Now I don't want to sew because it will mess up my tidy room. 😥
Wouldn't you want to use some batting or Insulbrite in the middle? Fabric and a piece of towel just don't seem like much protection from the heat. That IS a POTholder, right?
using an old towel in the middle instead of batting...brilliant! ✂🧵👩
Very clever how your half inch of fabric became the seam allowance without sewing on the towel.
Yes... I was trying to avoid getting the towel in the seams. Makes it lie flatter and smoother 😉
I love your videos. I could sit and watch you sew all day!!!!
Oh thank you!
Perfect.. I have some old washcloths which will be the perfect size. Thanks for this great idea

And yet another terrific option for scraps! 😊
Yeah for scraps!! My favorite kind of fabric. :)
Good way to use old dishcloths too!
Nice tutorial. I like how you left the 1/2". It gave it a flatter look instead of the bulky look. I have to try it. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Love these potholders, what a great way to use towels. Thanks.
Love it. Like its just music no long winded explanations
I love the scrappy look!!
I love your videos, so easy and straight forward, thank you.
Great idea for potholders--not stiff like using other products in middle.
So many great ideas there. You really make my head swim with great ideas.
I ❤ this! The old towel part is awesome 😊
I have to watch every tutorial to see what your doing next! You are very clever and talented 💚
This is so much easier than how I do it.Thanks for posting , from now on I will be mine the same way.

Your show is so incredible! I love the fact that even I could probably do these things. thank you, ♥️
You are so welcome!
Never thought of using a towel!!! I always cut up fraying towels for cleaning towels.
This is so much easier than I have been doing. Thank you ..
Glad it helped!
Adding an additional piece of towering to the backing would help to provide more protection from heat.
Great idea
Great idea for scraps
😊. Love the serene music
Another great idea. I love your videos, so informing, yet simple for everyone to try. Thank you.
I need to make some pot holders…thanks Beth❣️
I just love watching whatever you sew, the music is nice, I enjoy you so much!

I love them
I love this!
They are so cute
So calming to watch you sew- inspired as a beginner 😊
Fantastic idea, thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
My pleasure 😊
This is really a great idea I’m definitely going to try it thank you!!

Beautiful
Wonderful video. A great idea for Christmas 🎄 😀
Could not be easier! Can’t wait to give this a go tomorrow ❤❤❤
Love it❣️❣️Janet
Nice 👍🏾
Very nice but no disrespect, I would put an iron board backing, insulated batting and cotton batting in he middle also.

It depends on how thick the quilt is. Sorry for your loss.
Wouldnt you want to do a couple of rows of quilting (by machine) diagonal corners to corners or rows of wavy stitching....just to secure the sandwich .... and keep from getting lumps when they get wet ?
That’s a great idea. Mine have not had any issues... but it certainly wouldn’t hurt. 🙂
I love this❤️, but I do have a question.☺️ Why turn inside out?
After putting right sides together I sewed around leaving an opening. Then I turned it right side out before stitching around. I want the raw edges inside. 👌Hope that helps.
@@bethshibleyquilts Thank you

😆 I understand that feeling.
Beautiful pit holders! I thought that we had to use Insubrite or similar to keep heat from going through- so is that not necessary?
IT’s a personal preference. I figured that potholders were made and used successfully before the invention of insulbright 😉
If you add insulbrite does that make it too thick to flip inside-out?
I have not tried insulbrite with this method. I would think it would work....but I'm not sure.😉 I would be curious to know.
I've found towelling works better than insulbrite to protect from the heat. Even better is two layers of towel.
Wouldn't you want to use some batting or Insulbrite in the middle? Fabric and a piece of towel just don't seem like much protection from the heat. That IS a POTholder, right?
You could definitely use insulbright… I always use towels and it works for me 😉
Is it thick enough with just the towel?
It is thick enough for me....but we're all different.
the video I liked. the music bothered me, so I watched it without the music sorry
Hoping this wasn’t used as a hot pad.
I love them
Love it ! Thank you!!
