Looked like 2 pieces of ribbon each in a U shape, one per side. I am pretty sure it was hand stitched because of the X. Maybe the handles could be sewn on when flat, but these aren't holding anything heavy.

I couldn’t tell how the strips were connected to the bag. Saw the x marks, but no explanation. Hand sewn?
