Loved your tutorial - awesome job! The pace and clear instructions were perfect. I watched it, then sat down and sewed 2 sets of pot holders. Thanks so much!
Currently, I am working on a gift project for Mobile Meals program in my area. Making the gift bags, a decorated kitchen towels, a potholder. Will be adding a 'frig magnet. Aiming for 25 of them.
I've been busy making put holders, also, for Christmas gifts. While I was at JoAnn's, a few of the Employees that also sew, informed me that many other sewists also use a regular piece of cotton quilt batting on both sides of the heat reflective piece when making the pot holders. It makes them a little thicker, makes them more durable. So, I use a piece of the reflective potholder that already has batting somewhat attached to both sides of it. I then use a thin piece of batting on each side of that. Then finish with the 2 layers of fabric in the outside. This is how I make my Potholders!!!
Just what I was looking for, something simple to have, that binding look without all the fuss. I'm going to try to make this with miters corners. Wish me luck. 😉
Instead of the "X" to hold the layers together, this is when we get to "Play" by freely stitching a random design or follow the stripes or pattern on the fabric. This is especially fun for children. This allows creativity to blossom.
That's a good idea! I'm going to be making some matching potholders for family with a coffee cup-print fabric, and I have a darning foot that I've been wanting to use more often.
Just made a couple of these and wow! It doesn't get much simpler than this! The only thing I will do differently next time is to use more pins when sewing the backing onto my sandwich. It shifted a bit making it harder to fold the binding over evenly. Thanks for the great video! Your videos are the easiest for me to follow and I appreciate how you explain things in a way I understand!
I was thinking how I need new potholders. Looks like I’ll be making some today. Thank you for another great video tutorial. I appreciate all the hard work and time you put into your videos. You’re a fantastic teacher. Again, thank you!!
I used an 80/12 universal needle but it also depends on your sewing machine. If it struggles with bulk going up in needle size and to a denim or topstitch needle can help.
I don't put a binding on my potholders . I sew two squares together, right sides facing each other. I use Insulbright which is a heat resistant utility fabric I buy at JoAnn fabrics.. Also, two squares of low loft quilt binding, one on each side of the Insulbright (sp). To quilt it, I do a zigzag stitch from opposite corners .
Hello Would you please do a video. I, get very confused which way to cut the fabric, is it the length when the girl cuts the fabric (roll of the fabric), some say the width. A Pillowcase may be a good example. Thank you
Because they don’t sponsor my videos. I bought this machine and it doesn’t come with a walking foot. I haven’t bought one for it because I have several other machines that do have a walking foot. I just happened to be using this little machine for the video. 🤷🏽♀️
I buy nice large, thick, 100% cotton pot holders at a local Dollar General, for exactly $1.00. One of the very few reasons I go there, and one of the reasons I stopped making this type of craft.
But that's not fun lol you can really recycle alot of household fabrics by turning them into potholders and bowl cozy's and spend nothing at all ❤ and it's good for the environment

Add a layer of left over cotton batting.
I am always in awe at how people can sew in a straight line. LOL. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Me too. I try my darnedest but I can't cut straight and can't sew straight.
use your quarter inch sewing foot left /right side. For stretch material lengthen your stitch for cottons use normal
Practice....years of practice.

You're welcome!
Thank you !
Thank you
I have always wondered just how much bigger the outside fabric should be (now I know)
Hello. What kind of thread should I use? Cotton? All purpose. I'm thinking polyester could melt based on the heat of the pot.
Thank you - looks easy enough - when working with so many layers did you switch to a denim needle or a different special size?
I used an 80/12 universal needle but it also depends on your sewing machine. If it struggles with bulk going up in needle size and to a denim or topstitch needle can help.
What kind of ironing pad are you using on your cutting board. And where can I get one?
What do you use for the back of potholders

What foot did you use?
can it be washed?
Yes.
Where can we find that?
the heat reflective fleece can be found here: craftygemini.com/shop/bosal-poly-therm-heat-reflective-fleece/
why did you not cut the corners off first?
Because I wanted to keep it simple for beginners. You can cut the corners off or even miter the corners for a neater finish if you want. 👍🏽
how come JUKI did not give you a walking foot?
Because they don’t sponsor my videos. I bought this machine and it doesn’t come with a walking foot. I haven’t bought one for it because I have several other machines that do have a walking foot. I just happened to be using this little machine for the video. 🤷🏽♀️
