This technique makes tattooing lines soo much easier. Straight solid lines all day long. Doesn't matter how long the line is you can take the time and do it nice and smooth in one pass. Glad this is helping you.
When I first showed my master this method, she wasn't really happy... she said i should do it like her... stabilize the tattoohand at the stretchinghands thumb with the pinky of the tattoohand... but I totally failed this way and i became so frustrated...so she finally agreed with it. To me it's Mitch easier to use the middlefinger. While practicing on fake skin, I'm only allowed to use a 3rl because she wants to see the mistakes... but even with this small needle I'm doin pretty well with this method. Though I still need to improve...thank u so much

There are certain situations where it is hard to use the middle finger method. You switch to the other method. Knowing more gives you options. The more options you have the better you will work. Everyone has their training methods. Some people say to do things one way only. I say be very open minded and it will take you further.

Wow.! Where were you in 1986.? 30 years in the business, 18 of those owned my own studio, & I learnt a few things tonight. Back in the day it was near impossible to get in the biz & even when you did, it was bicycle spokes, etymology pins, train set transformers, sewing machine pedals, jewellers guages, soldering needles, making tubes and soldering tips..etc. To have such a humble, calm speaking and generous mentor offering really fucking good advice is a far cry from what I was up against in Australia (thumbcutters) Good on you for taking the time, it was a valuable video to watch and almost makes me want to come out of retirement as keeping my damn hand still has been my nexus the whole time, though I managed quite well, that birdie would’ve saved me a lot of stress.
I always rested my tattooing hand on my grip hand and never tattooed one handed per se or gripped the old school way. Incorrectly but it got me through.
Everyone can learn from these videos. Even experienced artist can learn because I'm doing new things. I do a lot of research but then I throw in some new things that I've learned on my own. With new technology comes new techniques also. I like to think I have the mentality of an older tattoo artist. Knowing how to tattoo with almost anything is a good skill to have. It helps when your equipment likes to take a shit. Old school mentality and learning new techniques. A little mix of both. I already have issues with my back, elbows, and fingers. I'm no spring chicken any more. I will be focused on things that will help a tattoo artist last a bit longer. Proper posture while tattooing. Foam grips for the tattoo machines and things like that. Thanks for the comment. The birdie was something I came up with myself because I was self taught. I don't mind sharing the finger with everyone I can.
I learnt the hard way, not positioning the tube tip correctly and ended up with lined like my two year old son would draw. It was horrible and I almost threw the tattooing gear in the bin and almost gave up but I didn't, I was determined to learn and very determined to succeed. I got on the internet and did a Hella lot of research from learning how to set up a machine correctly for your specific designs, to depth control I learnt a lot from not just the internet but Utube videos I have watched a lot of your videos and have come a very long way in such small amount of time. I remember the first ever tattoo I did it was a absolute nightmare tried to tattooing using a 5rl in a 9rl tip and well I found myself having to cover that piece of crap "tattoo" up haha But every single day with all your videos of teaching is making me a better artist. Thank you mate keep em coming because I think thousand of people can really benefit and learn everything there is to know about this art form .

I've played around with this method and it absolutely improved my line work, a problem I'm having is a lot of ink gets on my middle finger. Causes me to have to wipe the area more than I like too. Man your hands are really important as an artist. If you are going to get stabbed I would recommend the legs or gut next time. Somewhere non lethal. I had a pipe full of concrete break my ring finger. I thought it wouldn't bother me. Didn't realize how important that finger was. I dropped a lot of change and lost some of my grip. I'm working on an attachment that should make it more comfortable to do this technique. Also make it easier on the hands.

The middle finger trick has work so well for me I took a note book with lines and put me machine and put it on a pencil and traced ever line in the book front and back till I could run super clean lines

I like this power supply. The one thing that irritates me is the switch. You move the switch to the other clip cord, but the settings stay the same. On the better power supplies you can switch clip cords and the settings for the machine will also switch. I've taken up the minimalist approach. The less you use the less you have to clean up. I just hook up one clip cord and switch it to my other machines instead of using this switch.

Seen other people use other fingers as support in other ways, but none were comfortable to me, but as someone that normally draws really low on the pen I think this is the one grip I can do! Thanks for the tip, barely seen anyone talk about gripping at all!

Having the right tools for the job, set at the right settings for wht ur trying to achive, is the most important tip. Novices should ride the tip until theyre comfortable. Start with short lines, with time youl become confident and soon youl be doing smooth lines. If your power is too low/high then your lines will be shit no matter who you are. Set it at whtever setting creates smooth crisp lines, start low power and turn up 10cps or 1 volt until your lines are running nice for that machine/your technique.

Tattoo artist told me "When you learn how to tattoo you will start to tattoo like you draw". This is when things get fun. Your tattoos start to look like your drawings. That is when you start to see your style in the tattoos. I can hold up a pencil drawing and it looks exactly like my tattoos. When you get comfortable tattooing starts becoming fun. First couple years are horrible. You have to focus on everything and you make a lot of mistakes. Once you start getting the hang of it everything it feels like you are drawing on a piece of paper. You don't worry so much and the whole process is less complicated.

not really because you are not putting the tip against the skin. You hang the needles out and only allow the enough of the needle into the skin to do the job.

that's such a good tip! I always say my brain is still adjusting from drawing to tattooing! good way to hold it I was holding it wrong
Tattoo artist told me "When you learn how to tattoo you will start to tattoo like you draw". This is when things get fun. Your tattoos start to look like your drawings. That is when you start to see your style in the tattoos. I can hold up a pencil drawing and it looks exactly like my tattoos. When you get comfortable tattooing starts becoming fun. First couple years are horrible. You have to focus on everything and you make a lot of mistakes. Once you start getting the hang of it everything it feels like you are drawing on a piece of paper. You don't worry so much and the whole process is less complicated.

Seems like an alternative way of riding the tube.
not really because you are not putting the tip against the skin. You hang the needles out and only allow the enough of the needle into the skin to do the job.
