    The idea of dot size with the same needle configuration is so useful... Explains some of the struggles I've been having between my coil and direct drive rotary machine... Thank you so much

      This make me think about stretching.. it may as well be the way you stretch the skin that gives you the smaller dot. I've noticed that when I don't stretch that much when using rotaries it gives me thicker lines. It may also be related to the direction of the stretch itself.

    What about the throw distance of the machine and the effect of dot size?
    I like using machines with more throw length like 3.8-4.2mm. Does a shorter throw length affect the dot size?

    • @DNashvegas
      @DNashvegas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I dont think it affects the dot size.. but just gives you more room to work with.. Ive only been using rotaries about a year or so and Im rather new on it. i use the Axys Fehu direct drive machines and I messaged the company about his setups and he explained it to me... I have the 3.5 machine and the 2.5 mm machine.. he said on the 3.5 its more for color work or packing solid fields.. the 2.5 is a more softer machine for black and grey and its faster which means the dots will be "closer" together at the same voltage than say the 3.5. I know on the 3.5 when i shading, or pack something in i adjust my tube tip to where I want the needle to come out. I rarely have it flush down at the tube tip and it seems to pack in quicker and shade faster than if I had the full 3.5 going. I dont do that as much on my 2.5 because the distance is so shallow as it is. I hope that made sense. But it is direct drive..no give so that might explain why color work takes a little longer than black and grey according to this video. But for straight up linework i typically like using my coils

    • @andrewhanson9251
      @andrewhanson9251 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Nash I use the axys fehu as well with 4.0 mm of throw. It packs color pretty well and I can even line with it, but I’m thinking of getting a new machine. Inkjecta im thinking

    • @typallotta756
      @typallotta756 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Hanson Yes a 3.2 technically will leave a smaller dot than a 4.2 shorter throw will generally lead to a smoother less aggressive cycle or hit as well.

    • @DNashvegas
      @DNashvegas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewhanson9251 oh cool! ive been using axys for about 6 months or so and I dig it.. I havent really sampled around with rotaries much but ive heard good things about inkjecta too :)

  • @Sinisterartstv

    I’ve been struggling with give and what I prefer since buying my swashdrive Vader it’s an amazing machine and feel like it’s improved my work. It’s got 20 give adjusting clicks. I’m way over thinking it all, somedays it works like a dream other days it feeling like things are taking way longer than they should compared to when I was using coils. I’ve gone from coils to direct drive pen to this machine and I’m questioning my whole career knowledge 😂

  • @without.wounds
    @without.wounds ปีที่แล้ว

    Quite interesting. I am looking to purchase a new machine. I currently have a Mast Tour Pro, and it's done quite well. But I've been looking at the Peak Nebula vs the Peak Azur Slider. Both are rotary. The slider comes with 3.5 stroke and 2 motors you can change out. While the Nebula is a direct drive with adjustable stroke from 0-4. Most of the work I am doing is black&gray. Not quite sure which I should go with. Does it really matter all that much? Once I'm comfortable with either I'm sure I'd be happy with whatever.

  • @aceadam1828
    @aceadam1828 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He is talking about the difference in machine power used in combination with give and coloring. If your rotary has more power and has "give" then it will pack a lot of color quickly.
      I think. If I'm interpreting your question correctly and assuming the correct info based on this informative video.

    I have a fk irons spektra edge and i find it difficult to pack solid black unless i had the voltage higher, like in the 9,10 range. Is that to be expected?

    • @mvandell
      @mvandell 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's also due to hand speed.

    • @addictionsininktattoosandp4158

      I have no issues. Set it at half the give and it packs smooth.

    • @typallotta756
      @typallotta756 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sweaty sweaty cheeses Not really. Just a little give should pack well. but you may have the stroke fully open. I think it is 4 or 4.2 mm . So shorten it a bit and you will see better saturation at lower volts. The voltage equals speed and if you can’t saturate good without running it faster it may be because of the cycle time of the longer stroke. It’s a great machine but I think they should make changeable cams as the adjustable one makes it too hard for artists to find what they like.

    Educational, but I feel this information needs to be less free to the public, and made available to professionals only.. which is very challenging on TH-cam. Too many specifics.
