    I am not a tattoo artist however, I did recently start learning everything I can and purchased basics of what I need to do simple techniques on myself and to fix two of my tattoos. I had a tattoo artist really mess up a large tattoo on the inside of my forearm. It also got severely (under statement) infected. I have a lot of scaring in the tattoo. Your tutorials are outstanding!!! Thank you for taking the time to do them!
    ****DISCLAIMER*** the person that did the tattoo that got really infected - I did not know him well and he didn't do tattoos for a living in a shop etc. he came to my house....also used acrylic paint for the largest portion of the tattoo...seriously!!!

      Really only high quality tattoo inks should be used. If someone uses anything else I would walk away. Keep learning and practicing. Sounds like you already got a taste of what not to do.

      I'm working on that. I had to order some needles that I don't normally use. I'm going to test out some hallow tattoo needles. See if they work like they advertise. That video will be coming up real soon. You can see some of my art in the videos but I will try to post more. I'll start doing tattoos and showing you guys what I'm doing during the actual tattoo.

      Well that's a pretty ignorant comment. This Guy works his guts out, at his own expense to share knowledge that your typical "I am an artist" tattooist never shares with beginners through fear of competition. Truth is there is a world full of aspiring artists of the future that can not get an apprenticeship in a local studio as the positions are few and far between, and who can afford to work for nothing when you have kids to feed and bills to pay. This very generous man who truly cares about others, and gives freely, is a real life proper tattooist with years worth of tips, tricks, techniques, and knowledge based on hard work, experiments, and proven facts, that you will not find anywhere else. Sure he may not be a world class orator, nor an entertainer, but you might want to consider giving some gratitude without the snarky self righteous attitude that seems so abundant with today's generation. What have you freely given to the world recently???

  • @JiggyJ22

    Only problem is these tips that your explaining are NOT standard diamond and mag tips are NOT common tips to buy first of all.. the only one you got right was the Round liner. The ones you described are SPECIALLY made and called precision cut away tips. The "diamond tip" as you called it called a cutaway SQUARE tip and the "mag" tip as you called it is called a cutaway closed tip mag. A diamond tip is flat on the end like a round liner but is shaped like a diamond, those basically suck because it's basically just an odd shaped round liner tip. A standard MAG is basically completely flat and the entire top is. Completely cut back to the wash out opening, it's not a square tube....

      @TattooUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your welcome. There are people out there who want to learn and have the same problem. Their mentors really don't know anything. These videos are for the people who are really serious about learning. They will be the ones who improve. Some times people just learn enough to do a tattoo and they stop. I've talked to a lot of experienced artist who say they never stopped learning new things. If your not learning then your just doing it for the money. Keep watching videos and keep looking for a good mentor. They are out there.

      I believe I'm talking about using a razor blade to separate the needles a little

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is to tattoo. You should also check to make sure the needles are straight. Just give them a check before tattooing. No barbs on the ends of the needles or bent ones.

    What size needle is best just for outlining?

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you are doing. What size the tattoo is. What style of tattoo. How you tattoo. If you want to build it up or just run one liners. Needle choice is like picking a brush for painting. Which brush/ needle is the correct size and shape for what you are doing? There are several different types of needles. Mags, loose group, tight group, bugpins, textured........ Learn what these needles are used for and you can choose which on is the best for the tattoo you are doing.

      I'm throwing out some older videos. You learn a lot in the tattoo world in just a year. I haven't posted some of my older videos because I think they aren't correct any more. At the time it was right but I've learned new things. At this point I'm not using those needles any more. I've moved on to the cartridge system. Equipment is getting better. Right now there are some new things coming out that are changing the game. I'm waiting on some samples for doing stencils. I'm printing hand pokers that I designed. Ink is changing for the better. I'm waiting to try a new black ink. If this black ink rocks it could change the ink I'm using. It is an exciting time to be in tattooing and things are changing quickly.

    What can be used if you run out of green Soap ? ppl are saying ani bacterial hand soad & distilled water

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That works. I don't like using green soap. There is too much alcohol in it. It causes your tattoos to get really red and dried out. I prefer soap and water. You can add a little hibiclense solution if you really want to keep the bugs away. Green soap will remove your stencil quicker also. Soap and water is the way to go.

    Hey guys, I'm in need of some help, I'm doing a self stick and poke as my machine has busted 😢. I'm having trouble getting my color to stay in well, I'm going deep, just wondering if anyone has any tips on what needle grouping to use. No issues with the lines staying but don't really want to use a liner for the whole piece. 😲😵 please help lol

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you are trying to do. Watch hand poke video with sand dollar. I used liner,shader,and mag needle group. I wouldn't focus on going deep. I would focus on the correct depth. Also focus on technique. Don't just poke and pull out. Poke and drag the needle a little before pulling out. It like you are trying to wipe the ink off in the skin before pulling it out. I would also keep some back up machines for a situation like this. Always have back up equipment.

  • @juniorgallardo578
    @juniorgallardo578 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wat r the best needle type to make thicker lines?

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what you are doing. If you are doing one liner I would use a tight group. If you want it really bold I would go with 9's or bigger. If you are building up lines I would actually use two needles. A round shader and then a tight liner to clean up the outsides. Shader will lay down bigger area with less damage to the skin. It doesn't leave a clean edge so you have to use a tight group to get a solid pass.

    @tattoo university again a great video with lots of info!! i freaking love it.
    got some questions still :)
    did you get a bolder,crisper, sharper line with your new kind"loser" shading needles ? or is that a myth? i work with a 9 rl cartridge and my lines look very crisp until they are healed it look like the sides of my lines are crumbling off instead of this extreme sharp line.
    also i really wonder what the hallow RL is used for, i see it a lot on websites, for example cheyenne cartridges they call them power liners. i have no idea what they have as purpose,
    also out of all respect for your channel, but also jono smith explanes a bit about bugpins and he also notifies the other sizes then the 12 or 0.35 mm,
    thought this might be interesting for all of us, hope you don't mind else i wil put it off. i drop the link down here
    th-cam.com/video/2z4fHyD4MiE/w-d-xo.html

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use a loose needle group (shader needle) to get a bolder line. It is not crisper. One technique is to build up your line with the shader and then come along the outside with a tight needle group ( liner). Read Reinventing the tattoo. This is where I picked that up. A good learning tool is looking at your tattoos years later. I was using loose group needle to line everything because they do less damage. Looking at my old tattoos now the outlines are not crisp. That is why I started using the tight groups on the edges. Feel free to post links to information. This channel isn't about me and my ego. It is here for you guys to find information and post information. There are videos out there that are better. I did a video on building lines and then found out that Tattoo Improvement Network did a better one. I try to do videos that other people haven't done or redo videos that aren't good. I'm happy when I see a video that is good quality and explains things clearly.

    • @RitchieStones
