      -assumptions- about somebodys mentor or why they were watching this video makes you seem dumb and definitely douchey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have had issues trying direct drive rotaries and your vids have given me the info I think I need to use a coil effectively .

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ramon Viada Jr. In an ideal world the needle would be bolt upright with no angle at all. The only reason people put it at a slight angle is because 1: it’s slightly comfier and 2: it makes the visibility of your workspace a bit more accessible. Some people I’ve heard say it ‘needs’ to go in at an angle but in my opinion this is just not the case.

      Vivian Jeremias Dengler A blowout will sometimes occur regardless of skill level. As you tattoo more you'll notice sometimes it is out of your control. But commonly occurs when the needle will penetrate a little too deep, some areas let's say the client has stretch marks this can happen quite easily. Just have to be very weary, and careful depending on the area you are tattooing. Shoulder blade areas / underarms / inside thighs/ fingers. Very sensitive areas.

      Valdis Strauts I’ve not used a Sol Nova yet but I’ve heard good things about them. You shouldn’t have any difficulties lining with it. Necks can be particularly hard to tattoo if you’re not used to tattooing them. Vaseline shouldn’t really affect your lines. Thanks for watching.

      I was going to ask this too- I'm an apprentice, and have 5 tattoos under my belt now. I've been using a dragonhawk because I'm dirt broke. My mentor has been surprised by the quality of the kit. However I'm concerned that it may just burn out, and I've never heard any objective reviews about their products.

    Does working more slowly (with appropriate slower hand speed) cause less trauma to the skin? Thank you!

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on your technique and how hard your machine is hitting the skin. I think a slower machine and hand speed in the beginning is definitely more comfortable for the tattooist and enables you to have more control over your lines.

    I have problems with needle dragging on skin. Am I going to deep? Hand to fast? Or is my voltage to low? I run about 8 for lining and slow hand. I like to float a pen machine

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of your needle is dragging it’s most likely coming out too far. Try retracting it a little.

    Hi, i have a question. Is it possibly to make nise thin, bur solid lines useing the smallest needles in diameter - nr 3 ? Sometimes i feell with this size needles is impossible to make one good pass

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes absolutely it’s possible, though it’s a lot harder to do a solid one pass line with a small needle like a 3rl compared a bigger needle like a 9rl. Thanks for watching!

  • @Lovegun.
    @Lovegun. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Jono. Love your videos mate! Question. So I’ve been using a Cheyenne Thunder and I love it, but it kind of sucks at lining. It’s rare that I get a clean one pass line. Shading and packing it’s phenomenal, and everything I’ve read it is suppose to be the same lining wise, but mine just isn’t. I have two of them and they are both the same. I’ve tried different voltages, different needle lengths, speeds of hand movements, even different inks. Any suggestions?? Thanx bud. Hope you and the family are well.

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony that’s unusual because the Thunder is actually dressed up as a liner and is supposed to excel at this. It could be a number of things but assuming your technique is right it could just be a simple matter of it’s just not the right machine for you and maybe you need something with a bit more punch and less give to suit your particular tattoo style. This is the thing about tattooing, it’s not ‘one size fits all’ which is why you get some people raving about machines saying they’re amazing and others saying they’re no good. So maybe this machine just isn’t for you when it comes to lining. I don’t know if you’ve ever used the Stingray X2 by Inkmachines but that machine packs a serious punch backed up with serious power too. So maybe give one of those some consideration next time you buy a machine. These can also be converted to take cartridges pretty easily too. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Be careful about voltage. Power supply and machine variations can make YOUR voltage slightly different. I have a lining machine that runs hella smooth and sweet at 7.56 volt and another liner that runs at 9.2 volts. Gotta listen to sound check the feel and see the volts. You want it to him not chop while running. Don't even get started on rotaries or pens, voltage is a whole different animal now

    What’s the difference in vibration compared to when you’re in the correct depth to when ur too deep and not deep enough? Is that explainable?

    • @JonoSmithTattoo
      @JonoSmithTattoo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jesse James you feel the vibration in your stretching hand when you’re at the right depth. You don’t really get it when you’re too shallow and although you still get it when you’re too deep, you’ll probably get lots of needle snag. Thanks for watching!
