While charging, the VinFast will shut down the power but that's normal. Vinfast makes VF8 to be as closest to ICE car as possible. Remember that Donut were angry that they could not accelerate VF8 instantly in their first review. However this acceleration delay feature is controlled by the car's firmware as planned and could be modified to make VF8 accelerating immediately without delay.
Switch to sport mode and you'll have plenty of power. It's funny how many people have never even used vf8 or don't know about its features but comment on vf8 as if they know it very well.
Drive mode always defaults back to "normal" as VinFast up to this point decides that it's not part of the memorized settings. Internet connection should be good all the time. Never heard of "battery conditioning" nor needed it on the VF8 here in San Diego the past 11 months of driving it. Driver Assitance works wonderfully. It has saved me twice from possible accidents.l: one time from trying to change lane on the left without looking (I was new at driving the car at the time). The car took me back to my lane ever so smoothly. The other time was attempting to change to the right lane at a speed slower than the approaching car in that lane. Again, the VF8 took me back to my lane. Love my VF8. It looks good and unique among the many Teslas around it as it seems that every other one sees on the road in San Diego is another Tesla!
I have so say I'm surprised on how well the VF8 performed compared to the Y. The software seems the only issue really. I would drive one and sounds like the best way to "own" one is to lease.

Hi Francie, I like your video. I'm VF8 Eco trim owner too from VN. I drove Model3 for 2 week roadtrip in EU too. It is very true that VF8 could not compare with Tesla in term of efficiency because of 2 main reasons: 1. VF8 does not have heatpump. So, if you turn ln heater, heated seat, it is about 30% less efficiency. 2. VF8 is much heavier. If you drive in summer with AC, it will get more range. After all, vf8 is still not as good as Model Y for sure. However, I like Vf8 Adas, more than Tesla level 2 auto pilot.
Thanks for watching! Yeah they can't compare but the VF8 isn't the worst. I'll have to keep all that heater and heated seat stuff in mind - I like to stay warm on my drives lol. Summer is really hot here so I'll see what happens to efficiency then!

Seems the BMS is working fine, just the software is not all together great as it does have some issues, but in the end, seen a lot worse from the likes of GM and its Blazer, well done Vinfast!

The fact that South Korea is beating Japan at the charging game is one thing. But having Vietnam's first entry into the EV game beat the Toyota bZ4X is another thing entirely. If I were Japanese I would be ashamed that their culture has allowed old petrol-heads to derail their automotive future. Don't think Japan could lose their domestic car industry? Britain had a great car industry back in the 1960s, but it hasn't domestically made as many cars as it did in the 1970s (when the world's population was half what it is now). All their major brand names are foreign owned now (Vauxhall by Stellantis in the Netherlands, Mini by BMW in Germany, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata in India, MG by SAIC Motor in China). All they have are luxury brands, and even Rolls Royce is owned by BMW and Bentley by VW Group.

Good chance it still would have issues but maybe the gps and some other issues get solved by dealer prepping car properly. Good to see this video though of semi-real life experience.
Great video guys! I agree Francie that a great part of driver assist is using it when in slow traffic. I have a Bolt EUV and I use it a lot in Atlanta traffic. The only problem I run into is if the gap is too big, people will squeeze in and cause the collision avoidance to trip. The Bolt also allows you to adjust in the lane while SuperCruise is engaged which is a huge bonus. I can’t imagine not having that feature. I usually put a hand on the wheel when passing a big truck and sometimes edge over to the side of the lane if there is a big vehicle next to me and then it snaps right back when it has passed.
Thank you for the objective first look at travel with the VF8!! So some parts of s/w are very good (drive automation), some are mostly OK (screen reporting of statistics for drive and charge), and some parts are JUNK (during charge vehicle status recognition AND during-charging thermal control-big issue). The real test may be how quickly VinFast gets battery thermal control RIGHT. Battery longevity is at stake when RC is HOT.
Francie thanks for the initial VF8 road trip review. And good luck getting the correct VIN assigned to your car, so you will have preconditioning available in the future. And if you could please stop referring to it as the "worst reviewed EV"? Also hopefully you'll be able to do some level 2 AC charging posts with it too. Suggest 'calling' ahead of time to 'confirm' if L2 (ie destination) charging is available or not. It's more time consuming, but more accurate than an app. Just a thought, good luck with your future adventures with the VF8.

The adoption of NACS has another benefit that often is underappreciated, the ease of size of handle for someone not a large man to insert and handle at a charging station. The charge at the EA Station in Charlotte illustrated that CCS isn't very ergonomic for majority of people to manipulate.

I agree the force needed on the Tesla wheel is excessive, I just click the right thumb wheel up and down one click, and that takes care of the wheel warning.
Fun to watch, can't wait to see how it all works out. And for the record, I'll take 85 kW DCFC on my Mach-E SR any day of the week. That's "fast" for me 🙂 And the Tesla ADAS is absolutely NOT the gold standard - it's not even hands-free.
@@smartelectriccar I never mentioned BlueCruise. On a pure technical level there are more advanced ADAS systems out there. Ford, Mercedes-Benz, GM, BMW, Audi - all technically superior, just to name a few. "Free" doesn't mean "better". TechCrunch picked BlueCruise as the "winner" in their testing. So...absolutely not the Gold Standard anymore. Facts.

My autopilot “slight turning force” on model y is actually amazing. Many they changed it in an update or something. It’s a 2021 model and I just need the weight of my hand resting on the side of the wheel and it never bothers me. It is also nice that scrolling the wheel also gets rid of the message.
The reason why the Vinfast thinks that you’re tired, even though you only recently started driving, is due to the sun shining on the camera on the steering column. The sun’s rays will throw it off. Sometimes it thinks that you’re looking away from what’s ahead of you, but you’re actually not. The Cadillac’s supercruise function works the same way. I would have to hold my hand out to shade the camera, when it’s in direct sunlight.
My wife and I trading in our Gen 1 Chevy Volt for a Tesla because of all the horror stories told by non-Tesla EV owners about the sorry state of public charging. We've can easily charge at home for our weekday travel patterns but the two to three times a month when we take extended trips that require juicing up at a public station was the deciding factor. One neighbor got rid of his Rivian R1S in less than a year for a Audi Q7 due to charging frustrations. Another neighbor said the two years of included EA charging that came with his Mercedes Benz EQS is essentially useless. The local EA station is always full, offline, or running derated and the next station 20 minutes away is no better. He ditched the EQS for a GLS. All the neighbors with Teslas had nothing but the best to say about the Supercharger network. Any concerns about range anxiety were quelled within weeks of ownership.
It’s not as bad as expected. Most of the problems looked like programming issues. If it’s not overheating while driving I suspect that is more of the same…
Likely. It was just not the routing I was expecting. Irony is that I (and my wife) are notorious among our friends for what we consider "on the way". I once did a trip to Reno, NV from Detroit, MI by way of Seattle.
I’m assuming you’ve made it home and not still wandering around the country trying to find a charger that’ll work. Put a microfiber towel in your center console so you can wipe off that fingerprinted screen. They work well.
its not bad looking imo - i'd wrap all the chrome/silver gloss black and remove the "VF8" badge.... make it look sleeker.... and then take a look at some dark rims :p
Way too much drama with EV lol.. Sold my 2023 M3 performance after 11 months of ownership. Bought a 24 Camry Hybrid and love it and never going back to EV. I checked their lease, $249 a month for 3 years not bad to make a show out of it.

Cannonball run with Vinfast VF8 !!!
Except it is the worst reviewed EV, probably one of the worst reviewed cars in the past decade, they are not lying
@@pine111 Yes, it sounds like when Tesla just launched, I'm sure it's better than the Tesla when it first launched. You must have a lot of bias against this brand or country. If you need an example, look at Toyota's ev vehicles
@@Chan-cd2th The Model S was widely well received by the press, so no it’s not better or even similar to early Tesla. Toyota EV’s are extremely uncompetitive, like the Vinfast, but at least they have decent reliability, which the Vinfast doesn’t have.
Glad to watch !! This is what i’m waiting
Great video. You are appreciated going through so much on our behalf. Thank you.
Some owners report they’ve seen their VF8 pull 170 kW. Not likely with the coldish battery but wish you would’ve tried the 350.
Love Francie’s VERY positive attitude. Nice video team. Cheers!
When we got our brand new model y a couple of months ago the location on the app and car was saying it was in a spot it wasn’t so we could use autopilot and could not navigate and could not see where it was in the app but after randomly doing that for a few days it fixed itself
What about the second day? I love this video. Vf8 awesome looking car. Hopefully, they will fix it.
Thanks for leasing the Vinfast! Great content for first trip!
Great video. Great dog. Rafiki is such a wonderful, chill doggie -- YES, he is the "Perfect" doggie. Please more Francie. Please more Jordan. Please more Rafiki.
Love your smile Francie!
Great Video. Nice to see in a new EV.
Because Vietnam is close to China, it can import electric vehicle parts from China. Haha, VINFAST is actually an assembly of Chinese parts. Even the car logo is made in China.

Can we all acknowledge how amazing Rafiki has been through this whole ordeal? Can we please get him a steak dinner or something?
He's the best dog ever!
The adoption of NACS has another benefit that often is underappreciated, the ease of size of handle for someone not a large man to insert and handle at a charging station. The charge at the EA Station in Charlotte illustrated that CCS isn't very ergonomic for majority of people to manipulate.
16:00 No Flipping water. LOVE IT
Jordan and Francie are a pleasure to watch, they have a Great chemistry that's VERY hard to come by these days!!! The review was very informative and easy to watch because of that Great chemistry!!!
Excelllent video so far. Actually considering the VinFast because it’s so cheap
We need Francie on more road trip videos! She's fun to watch. Ladies can love EV too! All the Out of Spec team are great, I'd just love to see more ladies in the driver's seat.
Loving the old school Top Gear vibes with the radios. 😅
ATTN: EvGo says to have windows up and doors locked before starting a charging session. Electrify America says to keep the vehicle unlocked then lock after charging has begun. Keep cables out of the parking spots when departing! Hope my making a few minutes to make this comment helps some people enjoy happier charging. If at first charging does not start Unplug start car & shut off then try starting a second charging session. Read your vehicle manual about charging you will learn something useful.
@4:50 Rafiki in the back seat: "I want to ride in the _good_ EV ..."
46:00 LOL. Jordan wants his time in the VinFast. Jealous Jordan.
28:00 Love your singing, Francie! No preconditioning for Ioniq or R1T unless you navigate to it. Whatever. My Ioniq also makes bing, bing, bong, bong noises (welcome tones) and "Charging Started" voices but I set it that way and I love it. So take that, Kyle. LOL. I've named my Ioniq Gizelle (or Giselle) because she is a beautiful French lady and she is fast like a gazelle.
La la laaaa! Love all of this Diane. Some bing bongs really don't bother me lol. I love the name Gizelle! Cute and clever.
@@heyfrancie Thanks, Francie.
After driving VF8 for a while, can Francie please drive Ioniq and compare it with VF8? PLEASE!
B-Roll & Rolling shots ............ Thank-You
The VF8 is a pretty sharp looking car. I imagine that the user interface and phone APP will improve over time. Good luck with the car. Lotsa love to all ❤❤❤
Great video, very well done! 👏👏👏
Tesla auto pilot is free with purchase. Ford chargers hundreds per month for hands free now… and I love driving the Lightning, but get real on facts
@@smartelectriccar I never mentioned BlueCruise. On a pure technical level there are more advanced ADAS systems out there. Ford, Mercedes-Benz, GM, BMW, Audi - all technically superior, just to name a few. "Free" doesn't mean "better". And while I'll take Consumer Reports tests with a grain of salt, AutoPilot scored about mid-pack, with seven systems ranked ahead of AutoPilot. TechCrunch picked BlueCruise as the "winner" in their testing. So...absolutely not the Gold Standard anymore. Facts.
@@smartelectriccarI would love the lightning if towing range is better by 2-3x. So ford does not have free ADAS? I think 1m hand free is good enough for me & paying monthly is dumb!
I feel so bad for non-Tesla EV owners. What a nightmare. I liked the video though!
Good to see real world feedback on Vinfast.
Francie in Concord!! Cool deal!
Ur so positively descriptive You make me want a Vinfast !!!
@38:21 The VinFast is pulling 68kW with the battery at 77%
@38:36 The Model Y is pulling 56kW with the battery at 75%. Wow Tesla is "incredible" 🤪
VF is a very sexy car
I love Vinfast
My autopilot “slight turning force” on model y is actually amazing. Many they changed it in an update or something. It’s a 2021 model and I just need the weight of my hand resting on the side of the wheel and it never bothers me. It is also nice that scrolling the wheel also gets rid of the message.
bao thinh vlog drove VF8 around USA with more than 19000km without problem.
Rockstar reviewers🎉 really liked watching this video and if it weren’t for good talk I might not have cared about the Vinfast 😂
Excellent review Vinfast.. Electric SUV VF8 looked so Beautiful and so far so awesome👍😊
Great video. Thabks for rhe comparation
You can move the scroll wheels on the Tesla’s steering wheel to let Autopilot know that your paying attention.
That Vinfast is getting dual motor R1T highway efficiencies there.
It’s not as bad as expected. Most of the problems looked like programming issues. If it’s not overheating while driving I suspect that is more of the same…
Vinfast VF8 look so great. Very nice Ev car
Glad to see this drop.
I'm surprised that
I think they went thru Atlanta to see friends of Jordan, he avoided a hotel bill.😊
Likely.
It was just not the routing I was expecting.
Irony is that I (and my wife) are notorious among our friends for what we consider "on the way". I once did a trip to Reno, NV from Detroit, MI by way of Seattle.
Finally saw the full route, and it is not as much of a detour as I thought.
love Francie!
I like to see temperature data when the Vingast charges.😊
The fact that a new company like VF is being compared to Tesla is pretty good
If a mobile phone is illegal to use in cars then a radio is as well. Certainly not allowed in the UK
As 3 week California vf8 owner I’m happy so far , for what i pay , compare to my model Y .
I'd like to see them switch car for the rest of the roadtrip to see them comparing the driving experience
Beautiful car,, 👍🌟🌟👍
Vin so fast they mix up the vin 😅
Enjoyed the video! Looking forward to part 2! When's it coming out?
12 Tesla Superchargers in Salisbury, NC.
Now this is good content 😂
TV worth watching!
