I got my VF8 Plus about 2 weeks ago, and it has been wonderful so far. VF8 has so many high tech features that it can confuse many drivers who have never driven any EV before, but in fact driving a VF8 is quite simple. After hitting the unlock button on the car key, you open the door, sit down and the driving seat automatically adjusts itself to the exact position you have set up, just step on the break as the infotainment screen tells you, and don't forget to press the little button to you right, under the steering wheel to un-park the EV (the red word PARK on the screen will go away). That's it. Now you just hit the button R (return) or D (drive). Vinfast ADAS is the feature I love the most. When you are on freeway if you want to use Vinfast ADAS, just hit the little ADAS button to you right on the steering wheel once the VF8 reaches the speed you want, for example 65 miles/hour, and the ADAS in green and blue color with the desired speed will show up on HUD (Head-Up Display), and the EV will take over the drive. All you do now is just sit relax enjoy behind the steering wheel and touch the wheel when asked. If you want to adjust the ADAS speed, just hit the up (+) or down (-) button right above and below the ADAS button. The EV will automatically follow the same speed or stop as the car in front of you does. If there's no car in front of you, the EV will speed up by itself and keep the same speed you have set. Remember whenever you step on the brake, ADAS will no longer work, and notice that the ADAS sign on HUD will become gray. Just hit the RES (Resume) button on the steering wheel to resume ADAS, and the ADAS sign on HUD will be in green and blue color. With a 65% battery (from 80% down to 15%), the VF8 plus carrying one person at the speed of 70 miles/hour can go roughly 175 miles during the normal weather temperature with about 20 miles uphill and downhill. It took 56 minutes to charge from 14% to 90% at an Electrify America supercharge station, and it had cost me $39.20 during the peak hours (between 4:00 PM-9:00 PM) at $0.56/kWh. If outside the peak hours, it would cost $0.48/kWh. Filling up a gas tank of a similar mid-size ICE SUV would cost me over $100. On average to lease the VF8 Plus, I pay roughly $10/day with a 3 year lease to own term after my old car trade in and a $200 deposit. I love my VF8 Plus.

OOS & Francie did it again, a rock solid interview with Judy and Larry, the real owner experience with the VinFast VF8. @JudyMoneta -- Judy, you and Francie are my new heroes! I love when you said that you enjoy driving the VF8 and always look for reasons to drive it everyday. I am doing exactly the same, always asking my wife and my sons if I can take them anywhere on my VF8 -- go shopping or go to eat. Everyone in my family likes this car, especially my wife. Tomorrow is my one year anniversary with my VinFast EV and I still get a thrill-like adrenaline rush each time I enter the car. I am in Sacramento, CA, and my VF8 is also Neptune Grey, with Navy Blue interior. The car is still looking brand new and I never missed a day from driving it. Yes, just like you and Larry said, the glitches were there sometimes but that never affect the car from driving like a normal vehicle. I also let many neighbors and strangers check out my VF8 just like you did with yours. You’re a kind and positive person, and yours and Larry’s interview with Francie is very valuable to the public and very much appreciated by me, and I am sure many others as well. BTW, we lived in Raleigh 1995-1997 while I worked for The N&O as a news-graphic journalist, and we bought our very first American home in the Neuse Crossing area, northeast from downtown.
Thank you Francie. The problems on the VF8 don’t seem much worse than the competition, but Vinfast looks to be trying to correct the issues and work to satisfy the customer. I can say that other manufacturers are nowhere as good (not all are bad, but too many are)
Picked up my VF8 Eco, 2 weeks ago, and enjoying the ride. The glitches will disappear if you allow the car to boot up for 30 seconds before driving. Enjoy!!
Really? I enter my car and wait wait wait wait and i start it up and wait wait wait for 30 seconds and theni cn drive off. Sorry, i do not have the patience of Buddha.
Glitches are inherent in the VERY CRAPPY software & computer Hardware in VINFAST. they cant even make the VINFAST vehicles in 2024 as good as the 2017 Model 3 or 2012 Model S, not even close.
Every new brand may have some problems with their first products. The first Japanese cars also had problems at USA. So, I think Vinfast will improve their ones day by day. I can see how hard they work, and believe they will get success soon.
Great episode. When most car review videos are from car-obsessed professionals who have spent one day with the car, it’s nice to hear the thoughtful opinions of typical car-owners who have actually lived with the car for a while.
One thing I know for sure, VF8 is one of the most safe car on the road and it can compare with Volvo. Let check out accidents between VF8 with Huyndai, Toyota, Mescedes. The car body and chassis remain intact after the accidents. Meanwhile, the other vehicles are nearly destroyed and heavily damaged. It can be a game changer, not about the price. But when consider the leasing deal, the warranty 10 years bumper to bumper, unlimited miles for battery. It is really a game changer compare with Tesla or Huyndai that normally 4 - 5 years
Excellent review. One thing I believe leads to disgruntled reviews is a high expectation. It won't drive like a race car, doesn't go 0 to 60 in 3 seconds, it doesn't handle well when I put it into extreme driving situations. As far as I am concerned it's just trash talk. The average driver is interested in does it get me from point A to point B reliably. You folks have done a good sharing the reliably of the Vinfast even though glitchy and demonstrated the differences in the owners experiences. After doing due diligence I bought a 2014 Leaf in 2016. I gave a neighbor a ride in the Leaf and he was so impressed he bought a Mustang Mach E4. If you're not up for the adventure, don't. Francie, I think you will enjoy the the home charging station. I am fortunate to have an apartment owner that allowed me to install a charging station. Best wishes to all.
Great to see someone with the same 2 cars. I cannot tell you that I like one better than the other. I also have FSD on my model Y and use mostly when alone as the wife doesn’t feel comfortable. MY is more nimble and controls work solid. VF8 is more plush . Perhaps I will have a better perception once they fix the glitches and use Tesla as benchmark to improve the app and some functions that can easily be addressed with a software update.
Congrats Larry (from a former colleague who was shocked to turn on the Out of Spec Podcast and see you on it!) I own a Hyundai Ioniq5. As great a car as it is, I wish I had leased mine. The 2025 model year will fix a lot of minor issues with my car. A challenge with all EVs is they are getting better rapidly and not all improvements can be software based.
You're an awesome host and interviewer, Francie and this was a wonderful discussion with Judy and Larry. I agree with Judy that negative comments and reviews encourage more of the same (whether warranted or not) and some people are reluctant to say anything positive about EVs that aren't Teslas. Negative reviews also attract more views, and the clickbait effect is a goal of many other channels and influencers.
I live in North Carolina and we looked at VinFast because they are manufactured here in North Carolina. However, we purchased our EVs prior to the lease deal.
American procedures are so complicated that the factory has not been able to proceed with construction since the groundbreaking ceremony. In Vietnam, the procedures are quick so the Vinfast factory was built in only 21 months.
Excellent video and interview Francie. I criticized your previous review as being that of an apologist, and you were, but the openness and reality displayed by all of you in this vid was very informative, helpful, and sheds a positive light on Vinfast. Judy wasn’t kidding when she said she was “tech savvy”. The technical details this couple learned during their VF8 ownership was beyond most average driver who just wants a car that drives from A to B
sure with that lease 249 monthly lease for 3 years then no complaint about the budget but from A-B with a long distance drives that will become a big issue when and where to recharge the battery. Pleasure and convenience are the last thing you think of since no place to charge or any issue about battery.
My Hyundai Ioniq 6 has to wake up and go through its protocol and I do have a start button. My Hyundai rolled downhill once so I use the brake on hills but it only happened once. Our R1T Navigator does not talk sometimes even if talk is enabled.
My Iphone turns on bluetooth automatically and connect my bluetooth earphone when i pick up an ear-phone out of box. So, when vf8 wakes up to charge accu 12v, iphone find vf8's bluetooth and connect. But, my android phone, google pixel, still off bluetooth and need to manual to connect.
Alot of the problems can be attributed to the 12V battery, because in its early stages the VF8's 12v were all dying prematurely leading to alot of problems. When the 12v battery on my Ford was on its way out I can still start up the car but I had no power steering 😆
Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 don't have wireless carplay / android auto, but a $40 Amazon adapter adds that functionality. There are workarounds to a lot of things as companies find opportunities to fill needs in the market.
I wonder if Judy and Larry also got the Vinpearl package since they are "Vinfirsts" who reserved the cars 2 years ago? That would be awesome as it is worth at least $5K!
We were part of the Pioneers program and had both a $3k purchase discount and an additional $7500 discount to cover the tax credit Vinfast isn’ eligible for. But, even with the $10.5k total discount, the lease deal was far better….by another $8-9k in total savings assuming we buy out the car in three years.
@@larrymonetaI understand but you might qualify for that Vinpearl package even with a lease, provided that it was included in your Vinfirst offer. You might want to call and speak to Customer Service at VF about it..

Dear Francie, I have heard of Kempower before, but I haven't seen any in the US especially in California. Could you please tell me where they are? I would love to try them. Thanks.
Its a way better car after the first bad batch from early 2023. Late 2023 production has improved significantly. Only thing I hate is the driver side button to lock/unlock that is not smooth, and the absence of passenger side lock/unlock button. Also would like to be able to fully save driver profiles without having to adjust driving settings again with each startup.
VF8 has the settings for you to configure the drive mode (eco, normal or sport), regenerative breaking (high vs. low), etc. I experience the delay when using the eco driving mode and turn on the regenerative breaking.
@@JudyMonetaMy apology as I meant fearful of unreliable charging stations. But that will improve significantly when Tesla stations open. After 2-3 hrs driving most people need a bathroom break, food/drink, and a stretch. You will arrive more relaxed when taking a few 20-30 min breaks.
@@JudyMoneta Judy, I'm a few years older than you and started EV road trips from New England to Florida in 2017. Love your positive attitude toward EVs.
Doesnt the VF8 charging in dash config allow you to program which hours to charge when plugged in at home? Every EV should have that absolutely. Everywhere in North America there are much cheaper electric rates during night times.
The weaknest of Vinfast Vf8 is Accu 12v liquid. Yeap ! It's the same accu with gas car. Accu 12v liquid will be dropt every 10%-15% capacity for every very critical low battery volt. So, driver need to replace a new one every year. If not, Vf8 car will get so many glitchy, errors and fake alarms, maybe car cannot change P to D. One solution is Accu 12v LiFePo with high capacity (over 45Ah). VF8 system control will be more stable than ever

Alot of the problems can be attributed to the 12V battery, because in its early stages the VF8's 12v were all dying prematurely leading to alot of problems. When the 12v battery on my Ford was on its way out I can still start up the car but I had no power steering 😆
VINFAST did not read the "how to build a 48v car" by TESLA.
@@markplott4820 i guess they lost the plot on that one lol
Thank you Francie, I enjoyed the whole 56 minutes of this interview.
Game over for Tesla!
Bcuz of Francis, Larry or Judy? 😂😂😂
Thanks…I’ll check but not sure we’d be flying to Vietnam (again) any time soon@@JHaviland1
"Again"? When did you go? I got mine and according to owners who used their Vinpearl package, it was phenomenal!
We were there in January 2023. Loved the country and saw many Vinfasts there. @@JHaviland1
Dropping a Myst reference. I would love to hang out with Judy and Larry.
I suggest a VF8 series : How Vinfast Vf8 works - Issues and Troubleshooting
Francie have many good advantage, as nice and clear voice, lovely face and opened-mind, honest smile. That's favourite vietnam style. Making videos with this content and many vietnam owners help
Thank you for your patient.
Oh okay, yes the AC turns on automatically in my Ioniq 6 also. Just turn it off before you start driving.
FYI, you shouldn't have to turn off the Parking brake manually. Just step on the accelerator slightly and the e-brake will disengage by itself.
Dear Francie, I have heard of Kempower before, but I haven't seen any in the US especially in California. Could you please tell me where they are? I would love to try them. Thanks.
Butts in seats is so important.
Afternoon Francie, Judy and Larry
That's funny, Larry, name her "the car formerly known as glitchy."
Electric vehicles are still brand new , Ty for ur patience, ur glitches will improve
When this production is viewed by millions of people vinfast will getta clue about software glitches until then patience is key
Not brand new at all, but this company is new to EV production
Hyundai & Kia forced to recall nearly 1 million EVs worldwide for failing ICCU's. Do you have any details on this?
Hyundai and Kia recall nearly 3.4 million vehicles due to fire risk and urge owners to park outdoors.
VinFast navigation system is not vocal at this time. I think that will be changed later on.
It is weird to hear someone say that a combustion car has a faster pedal response than an electric car. I have never heard that before
Lie lie lie lie fuel injection is faster than carburetors ev s area order of magnitude acceleration improvement at th foot pedal NO COMPARISON
It sounds like the company wanted to replicate the feel of a gas car rather than abrupt acceleration like many EVs
0.5 seconds delay when you push full from 0 km/h.
VF8 has the settings for you to configure the drive mode (eco, normal or sport), regenerative breaking (high vs. low), etc. I experience the delay when using the eco driving mode and turn on the regenerative breaking.
It would be nice if Ford or GM adopt Vinfast cars and made them available at their dealers so we can test drive or buy their cars .
VINFAST is Crappier than the BOLT or Muck-e.
VINFAST is about the same as TOGG in Istanbul. about 5 years behind the 2018 model 3.
Why on earth would they “adopt” a competitor's vehicle?
Drive to North Carolina and get the lease deal.
Great interviewer!!!
Y’all are wild for that headline.
How/Why did Judy and Larry go to Vietnam? Did they see this model VinFast in Vietnam?
We went to vacation. Happened to see the car on the road while there.
I love yours and Larry's interview with Francie. Very informative with details. You are down to earth, funny, kindhearted and fearless@@JudyMoneta
@@JudyMoneta Neat!!! Thanks, Judy. I can tell you love your VinFast. Congratulations on a good decision.
With the fisker ocean price drop, should you get an out of spec Ocean?
Well done Vinfast
Th vinfrank is great
If ur phone plays music in the middle of the night it ain’t th worse thing long as it ain’t depressing
It’s disappointing to hear they are fearful of road trips with this EV. Hopefully that attitude will change quickly.
I wouldn't say fearful, it sounds like the poor charging infrastructure is more of a concern than the vehicle's capabilities
Not fearful of car, concerned about charging options. Also, we are always in a rush and don’t want to wait 30 minutes to recharge.
I’m sure once I feel comfortable with the infrastructure we’ll give it a try.
@@JudyMoneta Judy, I'm a few years older than you and started EV road trips from New England to Florida in 2017. Love your positive attitude toward EVs.
Telle me the most loved feature of your car. "Its not THAT bad"...
AMC Gremlins , were also NOT that BAD........lol.
Doesnt the VF8 charging in dash config allow you to program which hours to charge when plugged in at home? Every EV should have that absolutely. Everywhere in North America there are much cheaper electric rates during night times.
Yes ! VF8 have that feature, time & percent & current can setup
Ah yes, random music is because of updates, nothing nefarious. No one is accessing your phone.

At 47:10 why is Francie laughing? ❤

Tesla don’t have that issue

Yes . Dear president .
Lol...
Vinfast cars are actually not bad like all the anti have been criticised. If you don't like the brand then just leave it alone. When you guys keep telling nonsense info about Vinfast, more and more people will get attention about it and the moment when they found out how good Vinfast's EVs are, they will buy it. The lease deal is $250 a month, no down-payment. 3 years then you give it back. That's pretty cheap.

Ya'll Americans missing out on high quality Chinese cars due to trade wars. Not in Australia yet but we do have GWM, BYD, MG from China.

Another fake hit piece, do you even try.
