I finally have my VF8, got it on 7/10/2024. I have the 2024 model. So far I'm loving the VF8. I think it is awesome 👌.
Is it true about the acceleration? is it really that bad or annoying like all the reviewers talk about?
Glad to see Vinfast is improving. That has been a concern.
Hi Francine this is Nelson and I'm a new subscriber, how are you? I'm about to buy my first Vin fast VF8 black eco. in a week or two. I so excited to get the car. I just hope I don't have any trouble with the car the company will do well selling these cars. Anyway enjoy watching your vlogs. My 1st EV car.
By the way I live in Los Angeles.
@@nbutch7878I owned a VF8 for over 15 months with over 26k miles. A thrill drive every time. I shared hundreds of user experience videos on my channel.
I want to remind you. When you get on the bike and brake, don't rush into D gear, you have to wait for everything to be loaded and ready, then you can comfortably shift into D gear. never an error occurs.
Vf8 version 2024 is better completed. I think you should buy the Vf8 2024 version to have the best experience with the car.
I am a VF8 driver with 26k miles from California.
Good to know that they are improving
VF is seriously working on improving its lineups
The reason Vinfast brought VF8 earlier than it should is because it wants to show US people that they really had a working product, not just on paper. Unfortunately US reviewer thought differently. They didn't look at VF8 in the same way. They just bombard VF8 with unfair review without considering the fact that Vinfast just started to design and build not so long ago.
I admire Vinfast to just head down to look at reviews and fix problems as quick as possible.
Even a luxurious car from a well-known brand existing long on the market still has failures and wrong messages. I am a BMW X3 car owner and my car still has some unpleasant bugs. One is wrong messages: Kilometrage for full tank is always much less than shown at gas filling. Another worth to mention is the failure "Transmission is malfunction" happening quite often when auto start/stop is on and I have to manually engage the gear to "D" when the green light turns on, or have to manually turn off Auto stop/start which I always forgot. This error makes it quite unpleasant and annoying and causes cars behind angrily honk at me.
Cám ơn sự chia sẻ của bạn
Goodwill is earned, not owed. People are buying these with their own money so no matter what, those 'unfair' reviews are needed. A company that ships an incomplete product should expect that to reflect in the reviews. Ultimately, Vinfast took the feedback to heart and acted on it and that's the important thing. Potential buyers will see that and genuine owner goodwill in updates like this.
I think. Your opinions have been seriously listened to by VIN FAST.❤
I found that after my latest update the Range has also improved.
Vinfast wants to make sure that when the car is running on the road they are trying to have the best product. Maybe in addition to updating the software, there are additional small adjustments to match the software, so it takes more time. That is the effort and effort of Vinfast car company.
That's great to hear, Francie! I've been following on your vinfast videos ever since I rented mine in Cali and reviewed it.
Hi Francie. I am your big fan. Thank you for sharing your experience with your VF8 Spring-roll. You are very fair and informative, as well as open minded. Hope your audience base will grow much bigger because your content is very valuable for the public. If you ever want to include a Vietnamese American VF8 owner like me in your podcasts, I would be thrilled. I am in Sacramento.
Actually you are a vinfast Promotion nonetheless. Everything on your channel all about best vinfast car without any issue but reality was totally different story...Vietnamese community in Sacramento knew quite well about your cheap promotion on this EV car
@@Eagletran99 I wish I will get paid by VinFast. But I love my VF8 and I can’t stop being happy and wanting to share my user experience for free, good and not so good reviews included. For the past year or so, I noticed that you are everywhere on TH-cam, Reddit, news articles, and Facebook, writing negative comments about this brand VinFast and cyber bullying VinFast car owners like me, repeatedly. You must be a mega Tesla stock holder, or you get paid by Tesla, or for your personal political reason that you just don’t want a Vietnamese product to succeed in America. Always interesting to keep aware of all these electric brands. Francie is a very good talker who doesn't rely on video edits like so many YT hosts. (Edits aren't too distracting, but if we can do without them, why not, eh?)
I feel that Vinfast's hardware is quite good, improving the software will help make the car more complete☺️
With the size of their service center network, it makes sense to hold off on OTAs. Keeps updates in-house and at service in case of issues, and gets customer cars in service centers so they can get eyes on it and check on everything
Alternatively, because of the size of their service center network, they SHOULD have OTA updates. Not everyone can drive a few hundred miles to a dealership for this service. With the current model, everyone HAS to visit the dealership for this. With an OTA model, only a select unfortunate few drivers might need to visit a dealership. There are pros and cons to both sides of the argument, but I think the current model punishes everyone instead of only the few.
@@CallMeIvan516 you’re correct about the pros and cons of both. Personally, I like the current model if they aren’t confident the updates won’t have issues or brick the cars.
I’m curious how many people that bought Vinfast vehicles don’t live within reasonable driving distance of a service center. Seems really risky/unwise to purchase a vehicle from a new-to-America automaker and not be close to service options
Can not believe it all kind of updates then issues and so on, soon or later the customer will become a mecha-software at no time after going through all of those.

15:50 Saving profile is so easy, but your car insurance fee gets higher. The first days, vinfast saved alls with VF8 plus. Now, vinfast splits 2 parts. One part is safety features always reset to default (alway actice), cannot save and can not permanentaly deactive . The other is saving settings, like position of seat, temp, fan speed, mirror, wheel
We love to see your spring roll on the road.
I hope, Vf8 eco range with 70mph from 100% down 0% will be over EPA
VF quality would be improved significantly in coming one year ... i hope they can deliver best value product to the market ... Thanks Francie for the update ...
Don't forget that OTA is not limited to the car side, but also to the source (data center/cloud), which is not cheap to build and operate in the US or Europe. I'm not surprised they want to be careful about it. They've already had a large portion of negative publicity. Maybe they will try to catch up with the HW delays first, as the final production version of VF9 should be in Q1 2024. Likewise, they currently have an open investment in a new manufacturing plant in India and need to complete it on time if they don't want to lose access to the local subsidy scheme.
May I ask what is "local subsidy scheme"? Thanks
Over-the-air updates are the future, but I think Vinfast is doing the right thing for now. Though they should find a way to provide the software updates throughout the rest of the country, at least in the major cities, perhaps by teaming up with another national company.
Good job. Happy for you and the brand and the channel. I REALLY appreciate your clarity in explaining that it is a lease. That helps explain how much skin you have in the game.
I'm enjoying your coverage of this brand and it helps flesh out a wider range of EV coverage.

How much did you pay for your Car?
There are 3 Vinfast dealerships in Greater Vancouver. Yet I have only seen 1 VF8 on the road.
I’m purchasing one this week I think!
15:00 I remember Larry and Judy. Thanks for the update on them, Francie.
I’ve been getting faultless OTA updates for my diesel Land Rover Defenders since 2020…………… recently got an email to book my 2023 Defender into the dealership (only 16 miles away) for a “while you wait” security system update and a 2nd update to the 48v battery charging software by plugging into the dealership computer system rather than OTA. I was assured it would only take 30 minutes and to enjoy the complimentary coffee and biscuits…………. 2 hours later a tech came to see me - the update for the 48v system won’t take after 3 attempts and on the 4th it downloaded fine BUT when they tried to move the car there was no electronic steering assistance and they found one of the 2 ECUs was bricked, could they run me home while they got a “fix” from the factory. It took a Friday and the following Monday before there was a fix available. Thank goodness that happened while hooked up (and blocking ) the dealers computer for a weekend) and not while I was on a lonely off-road trail through an OTA update!
I have 2023 Kia Niro EV. Recently got few OTA updates. Everything went seamless.

First off, I own an MYP 2022. What if Vinfast, or any other manufacturer, bricks a car with OTA? Who's liable? If Springroll bricked at "home," who would be paying for the tow back to the nearest service center? (I know that OOS would tow it themselves on a trailer, but not everyone has access to that.) Tesla has mobile service techs and lots of service centers. What about companies that are not established yet? I think it's going to be a craw/walk/run thing. With any software rollout doing limited releases and tests is mandatory. @UnnDunn nails it on the head, "Vinfast is finding out that building a car can't be rushed."
One more thing as promise for a new facility in North Carolina since 2023 is a joke for better service from vinfast.

You may find your driver profile settings will save after .13 : ) .. so long as you set them in "ready" and "park" on first start after a sleep cycle.
Any time you hear that someone is "scared" to release a software update because it might cause problems, it means their automated testing suite and continuous integration/deployment pipelines are inadequate.
There's a methodology for this called test-driven development (TDD) that makes automated testing a part of the actual software development process, not an afterthought.
The problem is, it makes the process of software development take longer, and it's one of the first things that gets cut when deadlines are looming and managers are under pressure to deliver. Managers never understand that a some extra time spent _now_ to build great tests will save tons of time _later._
And so they become scared to release a new update, because they don't have the tests _proving_ that the update is safe to deploy.
Vinfast is finding out that building a car can't be rushed.
You're going by what Francie said the dealer thinks is the reason for Vinfast not doing OTAs, not an actual statement from the manufacturer. I'd say its prudent of them not to roll out a potentially risky update in a market that's proven itself as a hostile one that is waiting for them to fail.
@@bfvader I agree with you. I’m sure they can do OTA update just as effectively as others, but given the extremely hostile environment they are in, it’s better not to take risk. No matter how good some manufacturers are with OTA update, there is always a real risk for something to go wrong. If an OTA update fails in a Tesla, they’ll fix it and move on. For Vinfast, they would have to deal with the media assaults and more. I believe VF made this decision from a logistical business angle.
If Tesla screws up the media will be all over them. Tesla is just smart enough not to give the media that opportunity. They release these updates in limited numbers to select employees first to catch any major problems. Then they release the update slowly in small numbers to catch any problems that were overlooked. This is why it takes them so long to bring out updates. Tesla could never do this without OTA updates. Can you imagine the nightmare of having to contact each owner that you’re ready to update and make appointments 🤣
@@calvinwalker4654 Tesla issues have literally killed people before and its business as usual. From the cameras not seeing obstacles on highways to the software gear selector choosing to reverse someone into a pond and drowning them; it's a headline for a couple of days but sales and stocks are unaffected.
Nice. Finally another affordable car for Americans who don’t drive Tesla!
EV manufacturers don’t apply enough settings in user profiles. For example, I remember when owning a Lucid it didn’t include drive mode in user profile. MB EQ series does allow regeneration options in profiles. It’s a nuisance to change these settings every time the vehicle is used.
Ford sent a tech to my house to perform a manual software update on our Mach-e. Legacy mfg may have more distributed computers in the car made by suppliers that can't benefit from OTA updates. Of course, they aren't going to tell you.

has any of there updates fixed the slow acceleration?
They are now doing OTA! Sometimes. I did frs9.6.1.15 OTA but they still wanted me to go in for service for frs9.6.1.18. 🤷♂️
@14:38 - No car manufacturer should be releasing any car that can fail due to an update and then requires service. The update might fail but the system should always be able to fall back to the previous firmware version. Essentially like a BIOS flashback on motherboards.
But to the question of rolling it out OTA, I'd have a Release Candidate opt-in option for folks who are geographically close to service centers and roll it out slowly to them. That might be effectively what they are doing by having you come into the service center, just using those techs as a better feedback mechanism, but it would only be the case if they plan to roll it out OTA later to everyone, not requiring them to drive in.
Can you clarify if this is an MHU Software update, of which I’m currently on VF8_US_SOP1.3.41.3_240112?
Or a Firmware update for which I’m currently on FRS9.6.1.10?
you're at version 10 (the last 2 digits), you can get the .12 now, call your nearest service center
@@pinkysweetsyes, agreed!

The new VinFast VF8, already on sale in France, is currently in turmoil. The electric SUV is the target of an investigation in the United States following a serious accident that claimed the lives of a family of four. The cause: faulty driving aids.
But in addition to this dramatic accident, more than 11 complaints have already been lodged against the company due to similar concerns, where the car abruptly changed trajectory. That's not all, as other owners have also reported anti-collision system failures, while some have indicated problems with semi-autonomous driving. One motorist saw his vehicle hit traffic cones at night on a freeway.
Just my two cents: modern cars, and especially EVs are just computers on wheels. You can download Windows onto a PC from a memory stick. Vinfast should, at the very least, be mailing all their owners a memory stick with the update so owners can plug it into their data port and install the update instead of expecting them to drive hundreds of miles to get it done. Just as with updating bios on a pc, if any failures occur during the downloading or installation of the update, the bios automatically rolls back to the previous state. The Vinfast is no different. It's a computer and should really just be handled as such. If they are so worried about bricking their own cars with their own software updates, that should tell you all you need to know about the level of confidence you should have in their vehicles.
Enjoy time
How much of the Vinfast software is in-house and how much contracted to Tata Technology (JLR), who developed the EV platform and vehicle?
Tata don’t cooperate with vinfast anymore , now vinfast use FPT service , Vietnamese company
Good thing Vinfast ended cooperation with Tata for their software development. Tata makes the worst software with so many glitches and bugs. Tata also makes software for Fisker and see how Fisker now, file chapter 11.
V13 will reinstall glitchiness.😜
All the EV makers out there Kia is my favorite despite that 12 volt battery issue, I look forward to the year 2025 to see what vehicles will actually will have the NACS port. Also, wonder which other EV start-ups will declare bankruptcy before this year ends.
What kind of 12V issues do you have with your KIA Ev?
I would never buy a Kia/ Hyundai. I work at a repair shop and I’ve seen the terrible quality of their ICE vehicles. Brand new cars with 10K miles that have oil blowing past the piston rings. Two-year-old cars with huge chunks of paint falling off. You might say, but those are ice cars. My answer to that would be I don’t see why Kia/Hyundai would improve their quality just because they’re using electric motors rather than combustion engines
Good car beautifull😊❤
I can give you software update ford offers. For a major update, you can it in for $$ or download it on on a USB stick and plug it in to update. I don't know if Ford has it over the air for all vehicles yet.
Good car & beautiful girl
Interesting question out of this. Should automakers be allowed to charge for OTA's that significantly (we can debate what significant is) improve the vehicle? I think yes. They are already losing money with maintenance, I think this would be fair.
Auto makers already charge for updates on regular cars. You have to take them in and pay hundreds of dollars and they will update you to some later version. Most people just don’t do this because having to go to your dealer is not fun
@@calvinwalker4654 I've never heard or experienced this before. Is this very high end cars? Can you give a specific example? Make and model.
nice to see they send all the errors to a hidden log /dev/null
Not every EV is the same from an electronics standpoint. My ID.4 has a little over 50 ECUs, the Mach E has a few more, and some "traditional" cars are far worse. Those cars are challenging to update, both in the shop and even more so over the air. Conversely, Tesla and Rivian have simplified their electronics and replaced many old-style ECUs with just a few powerful CPUs. As a result, their cars are significantly easier to update over the air, and the process is quite a bit more reliable. Some manufacturers take the easy route and only update systems that pose little technical and security challenges. I believe Kyle showed how Kia only updates infotainment, maps, and a couple other things.
The industry needs massive electronics simplification as Tesla pioneered out of necessity when nobody wanted to sell them auto parts. It is 2024 and there is no reason for each subsystem to have its own independent and stubborn smarts. It not only benefits over-the-air updates, it also makes communication faster and yields smoother cars. BMW put this nicely today in the various articles you find on how M series cars will benefit from Neue Klasse architecture.
Glitch-free software is really important. Glad to hear about these improvements.
I don’t think perfect software would have saved Fisker, but it certainly would have helped their effort to stick around.
It feels like in the electric vehicle world there is Tesla, then there are a bunch of other brands ranging from slightly worse to absolutely terrible. The only reason you would buy one of those brands is, if you either really dislike Tesla as a corporation or the look of their cars.
If someone’s manufacturing an electric vehicle, the thing needs OTA updates. There is no excuse in 2024 not to have this. There is no disadvantage and there are some extreme disadvantages of not having it.
Some are spending 50k+ on software based vehicles that are going to be worth nothing if the company goes under. Cough cough… Fisker. These people that are doing this are probably extremely wealthy so they can drop 50k and if it turns into nothing then oh well they have a good story to tell. The average person can’t do this.
As much as it pains me to say this, it’s going to take legacy auto to make a proper electric vehicle for the masses. At least we know that when Ford makes the Mustang-E, they will be around in five years to support it.
That's so slow, is every car downloading the update from Vietnam? 😂
Vinfast wants to make sure that when the car is running on the road they are trying to have the best product. Maybe in addition to updating the software, there are additional small adjustments to match the software, so it takes more time. That is the effort and effort of Vinfast car company.

Hi.i come from vietnam
It's not true. The vinfast vf8 is a great car.
Why do you keep looking down???
Tesla service is about 40 miles from me That is a primary reason I wont be buying a Tesla. Vinfast is about 70 miles so they are off the table too Chevy, Ford, VW, Hyundai and KIA are within 10 miles. Thus my next ev will be one of those
40 miles? That’s not very far. If you bought a Tesla, you only need to go there to pick up the car. It’s not like you have to go back there for oil changes. If you like the Mustang or Lightning, then buy one of those though. From what I’ve read, they seem to be decent vehicles. Definitely test drive before you buy so you get a good feel of if you like it or not. If you’re looking for something that feels more like a traditional ICE vehicle, then you might have better luck with Ford.
Sounds like a Beta experience. I’ll look when it’s at RC status. Why would I pay to be a Beta tester? Manual updates as they’re worried they could accidentally brick your car.
