2024 Ford Ranger Raptor | Higher Effort, Better Truck

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 พ.ค. 2024
- We drive and discuss the technical and engineering side of the new 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor. This primarily new truck improves many of the issues the previous generation had. The price is also attractive for many who want a smaller off-roader. The Chevy Colorado, Ram 1500, Toyota Tacoma, and Tesla Cybertruck are others to consider.

Very excited to see one of the Raptor variants driving on the hard shoulder in Chicago during rush hour.
Funny, but I've never actually seen a Raptor ripping the shoulder. It's almost always ass sagging sedans with the rear shocks blown out or a CUV with a garbage bag for a window.
@@anthonyantoine9232 I was sitting in traffic (obviously) on my way to O'hare a week ago at the 94/294 split and saw someone in a Durango SRT 392 doing about 95 on the right shoulder. He (or she. Don't want to be sexist) cut across all 50 lanes to continue on 94 towards the city with about 1,000 feet left to merge. This individual was followed by a 1999 CRV that had a trash bag for a passenger window and was louder than a Mazda 787b. I'm assuming it also had no oil in the engine.
@@nicksalimbene5262 That's some of the most authentic Chicago highway driving experience I've ever heard, I can absolutely vouch for the authenticity of this 😆
@@nicksalimbene5262 Love it! I'm from a couple hours west, but I see it every time I visit the city. It has spread to Madison, too. I go up there to visit my grandma and see a chevy cruze with the rear shocks blown out and the spare on ripping the shoulder at 80mph.
Coming from someone who commutes Chicago every day…try driving in Jersey just across from manhattan. I was getting passed in tunnels by semis while going over 80 myself. Chicago driving is like Wisconsin compared to Jersey lol
A lot of engineering went into a truck that Kyle is going to use to run stop signs while vaping and drinking monsters.

@@NDEEZMiatayou’re not fooling anyone KYLE
These things are EVERYWHERE where I live & definitely the vehicle of choice for the more cashed up farm hand yokels - they usually pass you on the straight doing 40 over the limit, then you get to the windy bits and you get stuck behind them, because they are still a body on frame truck and can't handle for shit no matter how much engineering is put into them. Drivers of them all still seem to think they are sports cars though.
It should come with a third key for Kyle's wife's boyfriend.

40K MSRP
100K dealership price
And that's the issues with these vehicles. Even the base model will be overcharged to hell and back. And with dealer instead of starting to come back you can probably get a F-150 for around the same price. The ranger will probably drive better but you'll be paying a whole lot more for a whole lot less vehicle. It's really a shame because that goes directly against what these vehicles were made for.
Dealer markups need to be legally limited. These things are more absurd than airline fees and those were already limited
In any event the thing starts at like 55K on fords website. They capitalizing on having the only v6 in a midsize pickup truck now 🙃
Can't even get the maverick for msrp yet either and it's a crap shoot if you get a good one, not even close to worth a markup, if the base Rangers come with the same crap 8 speed transmission no thanks it's garbage
When dunces quit buying they will stop up charging
You’d have to be pretty delusional or a pure brand loyalist to pay over MSRP for one of these. The Colorado ZR2 can be had starting at $48k and its only real downside is lower HP but is pretty comparable in every other department. $55k is perfectly fair for what it is if dealers don’t think so simply buy a competitor.
Thanks for coming out, Jack! It was good to hang out and spray some dirt together.

Looks like a fun truck honestly, seems more manageable and versatile than the massive F-150 version. Do wish they did a standard cab for this generation.
Why would anyone want a standard cab?
2 door cab is more rigid. Less weight as well, so you can "haul" faster.

Everyone thinks Carl is quiet and reserved... until you start talking engineering with him
The engineer had some corporate lingo, but explaining suspension dynamics and physics in practical terms is a gift.
These things are so incredibly loved in Australia, people go crazy for them.
I'm sure there's some money flowing in the hallways of govt to keep the roads so poorly maintained, that these vehicles are practically a necessity...

Starting at 20K less than the F-150 Raptor and 30K less than the Bronco Raptor this is the absolute bargain in the Raptor family. I'd have no real use for one but I'd love to have one.
I have one of these for the last 13 months. Put 25,000 miles on it. I have never had a more fun car on dirt roads. It is a blast.

It is such a fun car to have in our home. Everyone loves driving it.

Very few channels talk about engineering. You are one of them.
Accessories from the dealership should include Punisher stickers and/or Salt Life stickers
Dealer markups will kill this.
Hope ford understands that whether or not this will be successful lies squarely on the shoulders of the dealers.
Tacoma Trail Hunter will have similar mark ups, except their MSRPs will be close to $70k
So buy from a dealer that doesn't do markup.
My parent's dealership has never sold a vehicle over MSRP.
@@Xyler94 Send location.
Ford killed it by making it extremely limited in production. Most dealers near me are only allocated 1 this year. So yes, the markups will absolutely exist. The dealer closest to me sold the only one they’re getting for 10k over. The customer at least got to spec it how he wants it. It hasn’t arrived yet. I suspect most will be sold this way.
My god that handshake was so sick and badass.
Great color! I'm excited for the 8 people who need this vehicle application that they can finally get one!
So your telling me it's possible to make a raptor for 50k that has the same drive train as a 90k Bronco... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don’t worry, these will likely be marked up to $90k by dealers.
@@brucesuitt993 I was thinking the same.
@@brucesuitt993I got mine for msrp from the dealer
I think less about the powertain is what makes a Raptor vs all the chassis equipment and tuning
Yes. Because its missing a ton of the suspension components. The Bronco Raptor has beefier axles, they're also much wider (basically a Dana 60 vs a 44). It has much larger and wider control arms. It has more suspension travel because of this. It has beefier shocks 3.0 vs 2.5 inch bodies. And it runs a 37" tire versus a 33" tire here. In the end this means its far more capable off-road despite them having the same engine. The Bronco Raptor is literally the F-150 Raptor parts shoved under the Bronco. The Ranger Raptor is a great engine but with much more milder suspension changes.
You hardly ever see newer 2018 and up rangers compared to the f150. But the older rangers are a beast and still so many casually driving somewhere.
Can’t wait for mine to arrive in a few weeks! Have been looking forward to this review.
Love it! I've never heard Jack laugh or have as much fun when he's driving a Toyota

Who would have predicted in 1995, by 2024, trucks will be for the upper middle class and those willing to go into massive debit.
That's what happens when people keep giving them money regardless of what they do.

@@Mr-ed5ep when I was growing up, my brother in law had a 4x2 Dakota Sport with the Magnum V8 that he used for exactly what you said, work as an electrician. It wasn't the fanciest thing by a long shot, but it being an honest truck with a 5 speed and a V8 made it cool. These trucks now are so far removed from what used to make trucks good at their purpose, it isn't even funny - like Caleb said above me, it's a poseur contest now for when they show up to Costco.

So Ranger Raptor is 57K. Bronco Raptor is 90K?
Bronco is far more prosed as a premium vehicle based of the tech, equipment, and size. The Ranger is basically the new midsize car for Ford
The exterior body with everything removable takes a lot more engineering T&D
Yes
Same frame, same assembly line, same engine family 😀
If we didn’t need all the space for kids, dogs, gear, etc I’d seriously consider the Ranger Raptor instead of my Raptor 37. My truck is so wide there’s many places it just won’t fit off and on road… most parking decks are out of the question. They are amazing trucks.

What will the production volume be and will there be crazy dealership markups? Im a little skeptical…
This is what I'm wondering as well. Even though the bronco was sold during the pandemic, it was still outrageous some of the markups you were seeing on some of the lower end models. If we see the same markups and the only people that are going to be buying these are enthusiasts and kind of goes against The point of a small, affordable truck.
1) Too few
2) Too high
3) You should be
Exactly. The Maverick has been produced for a few years now and most dealers are *still* selling them with stupid markups. Ford either can't or won't do anything. Not sure which is worse.
You guys are the best
Love watching your videos.
I al looking for mini van or suv or cuv , truck which sits high (no no sedan even s class). Not sport person. Looking for very quite ride and very comfortable ride (may be air suspension?) which one i should look for
I’ve been waiting forever for the Ranger Raptor. I’ve enjoyed every ford product I have, never had problems that I couldn’t reasonably remedy myself, so as someone who wants their first truck, this ticks all my boxes. Of course I won’t off-road it to the extent it’s been engineered, but if you have the means to just buy things only for one purpose, then a Ranger probably wasn’t on your radar. And I think the price is legitimately reasonable, why, because I’m looking at it as a RAPTOR, not necessarily just a Ranger. But like always, insane dealer mark-ups could be what shoots this in the foot. If I can get it for MSRP, or even close to that, I WILL GET THIS.
Not really a fan of trucks but I can dig this!
My wife's girlfriend loves this thing. I'd much rather make the payments on this to keep her happy than alimony. My son loves to see his moms get hot and heavy when they pick him up from 3rd grade. He says his teachers call them so brave and valid.

Here, the more emotionally castrated men feel due to everything going on around us in our society, the more they turn to these giant shiny obnoxious pieces of driveway jewelry to feel more like a man. Incidentally, my wife and I spent 10 days in Spain in December, a country that's almost entirely farmland. We saw a grand total of two pickups the entire time we were there.
There’s something called a tonneau cover that’s used on the beds for trucks for inclement weather
@@sammyjammy6647 In my opinion if you need a tonneau cover (or topper) you should've just bought a van. The hard ones even when opened limit the bed usage, and the roll up covers are a pain to roll up, especially in winter when covered in ice and snow. And around here with gravel roads the dead air space under the cover is a good place for a lot of gravel dust to settle in the bed.

The slower rock-crawly offroading looks like it's happening around 5-mile pass, Utah, near Rattlesnake Canyon trail. That would've been a fun one to take this truck up. If Jack's gonna keep ending up in Utah, he should hop in a sports-inspired car and hit some of our fabulous canyon roads, some of which are deserted and can function as personal racetracks.
side note on the ranger, it has the largest back seat which means I can use it as a family vehicle better than all the other options of midsized trucks
Yo algorithmic boosty love your uploads thanks
So this thing starts at 55k with the same power train as the 100k bronco raptor?
For about 60k, this truck is a steal especially in today’s market. 60k is how much most base model f150s go for! And pretty much the new silverados and rams too. For how much truck you get, I’d gladly get one of these
