As someone who regularly drives in Germany: the bit from 190-250 looked incredibly slow and strained. I'm guessing the ICE engine is not supported by the E-Motor anymore and at that point it's just a 350hp car, having to pull 4500lbs+. While this is a niche application, it also means that you'll be tailgated by Mercedes and BMW Diesels, which is kind of annoying...
Don't forget Audi S7s... they seem to always sneak up on me when I have to cross country my Wife's Ford S-Max when on Urlaub...
I thought it pulled like a Golf GTI / R, the impressive part is not the accelaration but the NVH. You could still have normal conversations at 250km/h without raising your voice, that is nuts.

The out of warranty repairs on this car are going to be revolutionary as well.
Yeah I estimate that the part cost for those shocks is probably 2k a corner.
This is why I opted for no PAR in my build.

@@neofaktion if your desire to buy (or not buy) this car is solely based on PAR then I don’t think we’ll see eye-to-eye :) I personally prefer the more ‘grounded’ feel of the drive without such smooth buffering. PAR is an amazing engineering feat regardless (and I almost bought it for sheer parlor tricks) but it’s not my personal preference for drive style and therefore not worth the extra potential maintenance complication/cost
That little opening at the front bumper kinda itches my eye, to be fair, but yeah, the Panamera does look beautiful. Finally Porsche made the "4 door 911" look nice.

Before i bought my boxster i had no idea panameras started so high. I thought the base was a $70k car. Sh*ts start at $102k here in the states
you Americans are so spoiled its unreal , not only do you have higher income per capita you also cry about marginally lower car prices than almost anywhere in the world.

So the Cayenne's lead in the luxury SUV market will widen with this suspension. I'm not sure the Purosangue competes as an SUV, tbh. It's in another catagory.
The advancement in suspension tech is impressive,
but my god this just seems like the most disposable product out of warranty...
Thats probably ideal for Porsche. You want continuous customers and how better to than needing a lifeline to keep your car capable

The Autobahn in Germany seems better paved than many American highways. You were doing over 240+ km that's 150+ mph. The vehicle seems very stable at high speeds. Impressive. Good review.
it depends pretty much on the exact Autobahn... many, frequently used by trucks parts, are rather miserable...
Going tomorrow for ~600miles trip over Autobahn, less then 50% is that smooth

Performance levels may be near that of the M5 or E63 but the fit, finish, and refinement of Porsche isn't even on the same horizon of the BMW or Mercs; it'll always be top in my opinion

This technology is outsourced. It’s shared with China’s Nio EV. It’s supplied by a third party called ClearMotion. Mostly Chinese tech
That suspension, while remarkable, strikes me as incredibly overkill. Then there's the matter of serviceability...
I'd have it in a second. I can only imagine the ride quality. Besides, it's no more overkill than a V12 and people love big Lambos and Ferraris

If you have the means to purchase one of these new, service costs are of little consequence.
That said, I have to wonder what kind of financial and mechanical nightmare these will be in 5-10 years!
@@StevenLastname probably not dissimilar to air suspension. Lifespan of 60,000 miles and a 5 figure repair cost if you don't address leaks immediately.

Panameras have always been stellar cars, from power to comfort. I remember how everyone would shit on it because it "looked weird" or how you "can't make a 4 door saloon a sports car". With looks being subjective - I have always loved the look and feel of these cars. It's maybe the best sports like car you can drive daily without much worry or trade offs.
People who have "hated" the first Panamera version from 2009 are just DUMB and having not fu...ing clue! The Panamera is a perfect 4 door Porsche. It just works and it looks like a daily usable four door/four seater Porsche.
Some id...iots always expected the Panamera being kind of a "big 911", but have always forgotten that this isn't possible. Because four people must have enough interior space in such a vehicle.

I can only imagine the maintenance on this thing if you actually drive it, probably $5-600 a month average in 5 years. I don't see how even a doctor could afford to commute in it, not counting the unexpected surprises.

@@chriselliott8567 I myself have been doing preliminary research on these cars to make sure I'm in a great spot to buy one. I drive around 20k miles a year which is what I based it on, nothing wild for a commute and am not a believer in 10k mile service intervals along with my driving style. A standard oil service on this car is over $300 at my local dealer, they need a major service at 40k which is usually in the 2k ballpark if it's a V8 even more. The wheels are staggered so it will burn through back tires every year at the 20k-25k miles a year, and a full set the N spec Michelin AS are over $2k for a full set plus mount and balance and alignment here and there along with the uncharge if you have the drivers assist means an alignment is very close to a grand on it. So yeah for basic maintenance it's around there or more, not including the multi thousand dollar brakes between 40k-80k miles. In my experience dealer cost vary area to area also, German cars have become very expensive to not only buy but also maintain especially due to the expanding use of staggered wheels and weird tire sizes limiting tire options.

ok, would love a suspension comparison one of these days. There are some seriously cool suspensions out there from MB, GM, Porsche etc and would love to hear a tech deep dive and what each of them do well or not.

The suspension is very similar to Citroens of old. From DS to the last C5 they used a hydropneumatic setup. It had similar functions, like raising itself for easy access, exquisite ride comfort etc

I've been hearing about 'Active Suspension" since the early 80s, reading about it in Popular Science magazine. Lotus was developing it for F1 and was working with GM for mass production. Sad to say both projects fell through; it was banned for F1 and GM...well, GM can't help themselves from being GM and cancelled the project.
Here it is 40 years later and it's still a black magic fantasy for most people. I'm glad Porsche was able to finally implement it in a car...but for $160K? It's still going to be a while for mass implementation. We're still stuck with leaf-springs and McPherson strut for some time to come.

I was hesitating around EN and GRC circuit edition as my first manual car after driving 1 year of 6at gr86 (not fl5 because the markup makes it out of reach). And I soon make my decision after that 1hr comparison video. So far I believe I made a right choice. Really appreciate that🙌

The 2.9 V-6 is so incredibly bland that my favorite part of driving the 4S e-hybrid is the EV mode at which point just get the Taycan. I’m genuinely surprised Porsche hasn’t killed the Panamera yet since Taycan ate up all of its sales in Europe.

I am not saying its not an amazing technology demonstrator... but this Porsche is for 3 year "business" leases... not long term ownership. And Panamaras depreciate like a stone.

Porsche's PHEV brakes are designed to be more communicative to driver. They clearly differentiate feel of regen vs friction, rather than trying to imperceptibly blend to emulate normal brake pedal. I appreciated the extra control it gave me as a driver, and my wife and I both acclimated in ~15 min.

Why is Porsche Active Ride only available on the V6 hybrids? Mercedes was arming fully active Ai driven ABC suspensions on many models across 2 decades.
Because it's designed to use the hybrid battery pack.
@@RahulShah87 Most active hydraulic suspensions don't require a heavy battery pack. Therefore they can utilize bigger engines.
I will buy one when the US gets the Autobahn built :)

We have a Cayenne Coupe now, which is extremely comfortable. But this new Panamera (even in base form) speaks to me as a family (dogs) sedan.

My understanding is that in Germany to get a driver's license costs about $3,000 (in 2019 dollars) and 6 months of serious and demanding driver training (similar to race track driving schools here, learning how to handle high speed maneuvers at the limit). Do you think that would ever happen in the U.S? Here we want any idiot, with not a lot of money, to be able to buy and drive a car. That's why no autobahn here. Would you want idiots, with no training, driving at 150 mph on our freeways? ... I know I don't.

There are also regularly scheduled stringent vehicle inspections in Germany that a very high percentage of vehicles on U.S. roads couldn't come close to passing. And most vehicles on U.S. roads weren't designed to meet tougher EC safety standards. As it is, the traffic fatality rate per mile/km travelled is within a hair of being twice as high in the U.S. as it is in Germany.
Is it an impressive new vehicle? How will it age? One wonders with all this hybrid engine technology and high end suspension. So much cool but complex technology.

Man, Jack dropping the hammer in the Panamera and hitting like 250 KPH with it all being legal is why I HAVE to visit Germany at least once in my life, along with the Nurburgring.
While Germany has nice places to visit, if it's about hammering a car and speeding, going on a track day is less costly and more safe.

The active suspension is almost the same price of another base model Panemera 4? that is why the price from base to 4s that high I am more scared for the maintenance cost for that kind of suspension.

They're using the Audi RS5 2.9 engine massively detuned. Why?
If you're going to detune that much, why not use the much cheaper/slower single turbo 3.0T?
Probably so they can just retune it for upper trims and it helps justify the price.
