We had a ‘04 GX 470 that we had for 15 years. It was a great vehicle except for the extreme frame rust it suffered from. Have they addressed this issue in the new generation? Thanks and great review as always 👍
Whenever there's a small third row in a vehicle, Mark always says something like "it's only there for marketing" or "it's only for in a pinch." It's for children, dude. They're like these smaller kind of humans, and they can fit back there just fine.
The third row of these smaller three-row SUVs are heavily used and sought after in other markets. They are going to sell a variation of this as the Land Cruiser Prado with three rows in other global markets. When visiting the Philippines, my family at one point had 10 people in my grandfather's Mitsubishi Pajero Fieldmaster (an updated version of the 1990s Montero we had in North America). That was a much smaller vehicle. Although it was tight, we fit (albeit without seatbelts).
The thing that lends the most utility to this and other large SUV's like the new Land Rover Defender is the squared off rear end. It adds a ton of cargo space in all directions, and makes access so much easier.
Really excited. Either this in Overtrail trim or a higher trimmed LC will be our next vehicle. I got my GF into overlanding, so she wants something boxy, somewhat capable, and roomy enough to bring the dogs with all our camping gear.
When you guys review some of these systems, would it be possible to include the supplier information (if any)? I'm not sure who makes Lexus suspension system but I would like to know.
It would be part of the marketing literature if they did something like a partnership with Fox, Bilstein, etc. They’d make sure you knew what the brand was; so you can easily figure it out for yourself.
I owned a 2007 GX470…best vehicle I have ever owned. I bought it used with over 140K and it drove like brand new. Maintenance is stupid expensive, but it was relatively easy enough to work on ( I do ALL my own maintenance and repairs ). I had 3 vehicles when I owned my GX and it was my go-to daily driver. I would still own it had I not got rear ended in it. It took a massive hit and was still drivable, it was totaled but I thought it was very impressive how well it took the hit. I have not liked the body style of the GX since 09 until now. I will DEFINITELY get year 2 of this new GX. I LOVE IT!!!
Excellent comprehensive review of a vehicle we have been waiting for a very long time, appreciate it. Any idea when production is going to start and US expected delivery?
I know you guys had the option to chose which trim you wanted to feature on the channel and I commend you for choosing the premium + which will account for more than 60% of the market of the new GX and passed on the overtrail which less than 1% of them will actually see a trail. This is the reason why I respect your opinions.
Why I watch videos on something I'll never be able to afford is beyond me. Edit: Got some real winners posting in these comments. If only I had a "winners" mindset, I could finally afford a v6 lexus. Hooray.
I liked the interview with the chief engineer. Intelligent design & pride in product really came through. It would be fun to see the engineer do a demo drive, explaining as he drove, translator in tow. Kudos to the translator. Both guys were very sharp.
Highest quality car review show in existence. Savage Geese word is gospel. If you will ever drive a car at any point in your life, and these guys say it's not great, you will know hell on Earth
I think this will sell well, especially the Overtrail+ trim. I hope this translates to the LX600 getting a mid cycle refresh, in which they bring back the split tailgate and add the Overtrail trim.
split tailgate omission is a huge mistake on the initial release toyota is having problems trying to figure out where to put the hybrid battery. if we bring back the 80 series dual swingout tailgates, we could mount the spare on the rear and also put the battery (or an aux tank) underneath the trunk, or even have a decent footwell for 3rd row passengers.
I just finished watching your 2023 GX review where you lauded the fact that the vehicle was a "dinosaur", but perfect because it will just last forever without worrying about the headaches of dealing with twin-turbos, electronics out the ying-yang, etc. Now, you're lauding _this vehicle_ which IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what you lauded last review. I know I'm not the brightest bulb, but I just can't keep up. I guess I should not have watched the videos back-to back! Granted, this new vehicle appears stellar and is likely "better" than the prior generation in many ways. I guess it remains to be seen if the longevity of this new design will be as well reviewed 20 years from now, as you essentially did with the prior generation GX review.
I like how this car is right in the sweet spot on the inside. Good tech, but not being shoved down your throat. Good controls and physical switches for what matters most, and beautifully integrated where you see them. I LOVE it

@@AR-ld8qd that is comedy gold.
@@AR-ld8qd 😂 no way
It’s an impressive design. Perfect family hauler, while being rugged and ready for some off-road action. Glad Lexus doubled down on the “real SUV” concept instead of going the unibody appliance route.
@japanwatchconnection all the better for those of us who like to pick them up used and barely broken in for years of off-road use ;)
Excellent vehicle--still, I'm glad I bought my 2023 GX460 exactly one year ago, which I knew would be the last V-8. I love my dinosaur, which is what I am fast becoming myself.
HELL YES! Been waiting for this review!
I feel like we’re witnessing a friendly wager between Mark & Jack:
Mark: “I’ll bet $100 you can’t mention the B58 in every video in 2024”
Jack: “Hold my bullion and watch this”
Jack when reviewing a luxury car: "This is for the man who doesn't want to be stressed, the man who is getting older and can't believe that he will soon B58"

I love this vehicle. I love videos by the Goose and Jack. I order a jack and goose on the rocks at the fanciest of taverns. Ive waited for this truck for dozens if years and can't wait to buy one used in 5 years.
I love it, looks great all around. Finally an SUV with manly strong looks! More companies need to do this sort of thing, I'd LOVE to see a 2 door version be an FJ or something fun.
Toshi Hayama! Glad to see he is still in the automotive scene! Love the new GX! Thank you for the great feed back gentleman!
Glad to know someone else recognized him!
I like how in depth you guys went on this, this is the first channel that i see do this in such a presentable way with all the images and anatomy break down and descriptions, im definitely subscribing keep it up
I haven’t watched this yet but a GX + savagegeese has just made my day
At last Lexus, you've got it right! I won't buy another Lexus until they're all like this on the inside. Funny how my 2017 IS300h now seems modern when compared with this, it's like they've come full circle...
The only Lexus I’ve been excited about since the RCF and LC 500. Great review.
Lexus GX serial killer dream car SUV next to Chevy Tahoe.
Very good update man, the Lexus brand has come a long way
Thanks for producing great looking, high-quality, and informative videos!
We had a ‘04 GX 470 that we had for 15 years. It was a great vehicle except for the extreme frame rust it suffered from. Have they addressed this issue in the new generation? Thanks and great review as always 👍
Outstanding review gentlemen.. I’ve been waiting on your input.
Between this and the LR Defender, which would you choose?
I think I will take a shot of tequila every time Jack says “B58”.
Yes, the grille is less “Cylon” but still reminiscent of the first generation Battlestar Galactica Cylon Head/Mouth.
thank you for taking the time to interview the engineers! def the highlight of these video for me
Whenever there's a small third row in a vehicle, Mark always says something like "it's only there for marketing" or "it's only for in a pinch." It's for children, dude. They're like these smaller kind of humans, and they can fit back there just fine.
Yea, car review TH-camrs think everyone is a super-sized 6' American. Some Americans won't even fit in the second row
The better solution is contraception
The thing that lends the most utility to this and other large SUV's like the new Land Rover Defender is the squared off rear end. It adds a ton of cargo space in all directions, and makes access so much easier.
But how does Jack really feel about the B58?
Really excited. Either this in Overtrail trim or a higher trimmed LC will be our next vehicle. I got my GF into overlanding, so she wants something boxy, somewhat capable, and roomy enough to bring the dogs with all our camping gear.
Finally! My favorite SUV line of all time getting a new savagegeese review. 😄
Depends on the trim and vehicle. Toyota and Lexus use mix of Sachs, Tokico among others.
@@savagegeeseIIRC, the sedans and the last GX with AVS are predominantly KYB, aren't they?
Man I need to learn Japanese, Lexus engineer explained the engineering & design techniques and their motivation in less than 20 words!
What maintenance was pricey?
Excellent comprehensive review of a vehicle we have been waiting for a very long time, appreciate it. Any idea when production is going to start and US expected delivery?
I know you guys had the option to chose which trim you wanted to feature on the channel and I commend you for choosing the premium + which will account for more than 60% of the market of the new GX and passed on the overtrail which less than 1% of them will actually see a trail. This is the reason why I respect your opinions.
Great video, as always. BTW chief is misspelled in the chapter description of the q&a segment with the chief engineer
It was translated from english to 2nd grade english.
This channel deserves all the good things coming to it. Thank you for the content.
Why I watch videos on something I'll never be able to afford is beyond me.
Edit: Got some real winners posting in these comments. If only I had a "winners" mindset, I could finally afford a v6 lexus. Hooray.
I love it but same, alas...
Its entertaining.
You are what you think. Stay broken my friend.
just give it 25 years and 350k miles
Why are you telling everyone about it is beyond me.
As a 4Runner owner looking to upgrade at some point; really happy to hear they didn’t screw this up.
Toshi Hayama! What is he doing here?? Would be a good podcast guest. JDM Insider and 360 Video are legendary. 👍
I liked the interview with the chief engineer. Intelligent design & pride in product really came through. It would be fun to see the engineer do a demo drive, explaining as he drove, translator in tow. Kudos to the translator. Both guys were very sharp.
Finally! This thing looks so sick. Hope it delivers.
I love that the infotainment screen is better integrated into the dash!
But is it capable enough for city potholes and curbs?
My 2006 gx470 is so i think this one should be fine.
😅
Looks like a McRib box on wheels! I LOVE IT! Can't wait to pick up one of these used in a few years!
I’m not even going to attempt a stupid joke. These are awesome and I want one.
Highest quality car review show in existence. Savage Geese word is gospel. If you will ever drive a car at any point in your life, and these guys say it's not great, you will know hell on Earth
Toyota/Lexus is just killing it lately! I have never purchased a remotely new JDM vehicle and this has me thinking…
Was waiting on your review before I placed my order. Thanks guys.
Excellent as always guys and thank you to the Lexus team
I get serious LX450 vibes from the front, and that's a good thing.
It's also the same size as the LX450/470. which to me was the sweet spot for the LX/LC
Absolutely.
I think this will sell well, especially the Overtrail+ trim. I hope this translates to the LX600 getting a mid cycle refresh, in which they bring back the split tailgate and add the Overtrail trim.
split tailgate omission is a huge mistake on the initial release
toyota is having problems trying to figure out where to put the hybrid battery. if we bring back the 80 series dual swingout tailgates, we could mount the spare on the rear and also put the battery (or an aux tank) underneath the trunk, or even have a decent footwell for 3rd row passengers.
Couldn't agree more.
Jack's, "Sometimes the old ways are best" was a great line.
Then the gushing on the new turbo product.
I don't get it.
I like how this car is right in the sweet spot on the inside. Good tech, but not being shoved down your throat. Good controls and physical switches for what matters most, and beautifully integrated where you see them. I LOVE it
Knowing how much you guys love the old GX, hearing the praise on this new model means a lot. One open question is longevity which only time will tell, but really glad to see Lexus took their time to design something that’s a worthy successor of the legendary GX line
Should Lexus consider a LWB version of the GX550 (a.k.a. GX550 L) to take on the Land Rover Defender 130?
The crazy part is I had such a hard on for the cx70 being launched this week only to be punched right in the balls. This thing was line batteries to my tongue until I saw it and was like yeah it’s pretty cool.
Amazing how Lexus just made two rows an option while keeping the same name! 😂
Double standards!
how does the power train compare to the new 2025 4Runner or LC250... I've heard increased kW produced, but I'm not really sure how that applies practically
Great review, great successor vehicle! Your Hans Zimmer grade Turkey gobble rev limiter offered as part of the sound package would be my make or break on this.
How does the base audio system in the Premium+ sound?
Without the weird grill, yes, thank you Lexus. Finally. Who’s been telling you we all want more and bigger grills?
2019 owner here and we love it! Are there trade offs sure…but it tows / hauls the family / dead reliable and very comfortable. I mean what more do you want? I look forward to owning a new gx in about 5 years.
Looks good in that green.
Looks amazing. I hope the atyling holds up over the years!
If I was spending that kind of money, this would likely be my pick!
What a great car and a great review guys!
