Shout out to this Italian ARMY who actually traveled to SK and did her research and also met some families of the victims. Without her video none of us would have really understood what the Spring Day MV was all about. And shout out to Lumpens and his team who made this well-thought-out MV.

I'd also really recommend watching Stephanie Soo AKA Rotten Mango and FatalBreakdown's videos on the Sewol Ferry tragedy. They did a lot of research and went really in depth about the events before, during and after the tragedy from different points of views.
I'm glad that various content creators used their platforms to spread awareness about the Sewol Ferry tragedy to people and letting the world know the truth about what really happened to the victims and their loved ones.

I just want to say that I appreciate that you watched this. Italian Army went above and beyond putting this together and went so far as to travel to South Korea and meet with the families of victims to understand if she got the details right and if it was ok to tell the story as she is. Corruption and the way this unfolded is unfortunately too common but as Korea showed political activism matters. They had the most peaceful months of protests some of the largest ever seen in the world. It is a reminder that speaking up and educating ourselves about things like this isnt just about never forgetting and honoring the victims it’s a warning and example. My heart, as a parent of 2 teens, for those parents. I feel their pain. Honestly I’m almost reluctant to see reactors react because I’ve seen many reactors (especially men who are ex military or some sort of rescue background) have to stop watching because they are so enraged by the levels of failure of the rescue corruption, and I’ve seen female reactors in tears. But BTS truly decided to take the risk of being blacklisted (they were on Parks list of artists) and make this MV. Do keep in mind the song when written was NOT about Sewol it was about a friend or RM and Suga and the two wrote it with their feelings but the MV was designed in the feelings of grief and tied in layer after layer of symbolism. They just released a dance practice to another highly political song (lyric wise and choreography) Am I Wrong, where a political in the Park admin had called people dogs and pigs and BTS wrote a song about classism and address not being dogs or pigs. Standing in solidarity with everyone angry about this. In the fight for Justice we Never Walk Alone.

There is a documentary called "What went wrong in the South Korean ferry disaster?" where more details of the tragedy and the negligence and corruption behind it all are provided. One of the divers who rescued the bodies unfortunately ended up taking his own life because he couldn't handle the pain. He said that when he heard the birds singing, he imagined they were the children asking him not to leave them behind.
With this song and tribute, BTS gained much more respect from the Korean community and this song has never left the charts as it is so loved. Thank you for your reaction 💜

As a former Flight Attendant this pisses me off so much!! I learned in training that when an accident happens as a Flight Crew you make sure that everyone is off that aircraft before you even think of exiting and as a Captain you should be the last to exit as that is your ship, meaning you are responsible for all lives on board! This Captian was not a true Captain and a real coward!!!

This makes me cry every single time I see it. It's devastating.
Another song against the Park Administration is "Am I Wrong". Where Spring Day was released after the impeachment, I believe this was released just before the impeachment and they were still in power, and they could have been blacklisted for it. (Could be wrong on the timeline) Im still surprised that the music shows let it air. The choreo is very symbolic and the lyrics very deep. That one needs an explanation video but I have yet to see a good one.

    • @borreguitoazul
      @borreguitoazul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

As you point out, Am I Wrong was released on the Wings album, in October 2016, about 2 months before the impeachment was authorized.
Spring Day is part of the Wings reissue called You Never Walk Alone in February 2017; Although the trial was not over yet.
Yesterday J-Hope himself mentioned that maybe the most recent Armys didn't know the meaning of Am I Wrong (because of the dance practice); By the way, very unwise classist comments from a member of the Park administration.
BTS and Big Hit were very brave.

BTS and whoever create all of their songs and mvs seemed to be doing a lot of researches and studies to create something meaningful and beautiful. They never have any props or lyrics ramdomly put out without purposes. BTS make their fans to think, read books and get together.
By the way, when thousands and thousands Korean people got together and had candle light demonstration against corrupted adminustration, there was no riots, no violences, no injuries and people even cleaned up streets afterwards. Their demonstrations are usually very peaceful without violences.

I'm so glad you decided to watch this one as well. Italian ARMY really did an amazing job and with you being a Liverpool fan it just made it even more relevant. I remember the Hillsborough tragedy... 💜
(45 and from Denmark so yeah, close by. I felt that one when it happened and in this explanation video as well. 😢)
    - It wasn't the usual captain that day. He had raised concerns about the safety onboard and had been removed for it.
    - The captain on the day is currently serving 36 years for murder and several crew members were convicted of murder, negligence, violating marine laws, etc.
    - However three crew members lost their lives trying to save the kids (I think it's important to remember and respect them for their sacrifice. 💛)
    - The vice principal of the students' school couldn’t live with it and committed suicide.
    - Several of the divers recovering the bodies were traumatized and also worked themselves to the point of chronic injuries in order to retrieve the children. Bless them all. 💛
(This is all from the very detailed and graphic Wikipedia page on the tragedy)
    - The footage from inside the ferry was primarily recorded by students with mobile phones and sent before their demise which just absolutely breaks my heart to think about. 💔
    - A lot of BTS's songs and/or mvs have deeper meanings like this, though Spring Day is definitely in a league of it's own. 💜

It's important to note that it wasn't for anything to do with the Sewol that she was indicted and sentenced. It was for an entirely different case. But I still agree that it was wrong to pardon her. 😤

      @psychokitty9325 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@imajinallthepurple I heard she was involved with allowing the modifications to be passed? She certainly didn't do anything to help save them. I saw a documentary that showed she was there later when they pretended to pump air into the submerged ship but only placed the air pipes near it and made it sink faster. She was nearby watching and possibly knew it was a farce because she is the one that stopped the ship from being recovered for years after... I'm not sure if the source was right but that's what I read.

I am hardcore ARMY and even if BTS music is not your cup of tea, you have to appreciate them for their work raising awareness of social issues and promoting equality regardless of race, culture, gender, sexual orientation. People should remember, THEY DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS!.They can sing, dance, make albums and be on their way, but no. They use their voices to fight for people with no voice. That is why they are so loved and their fandom is the size it is.💜

I feel that you have reacted to Spring Day MV with such respect and understanding that I want to share with you a comment to another reactor from a survivor of the Sewol disaster.. I would like you to hear from him just how BTS has healed him through this song and the messages they have: His name is Chilo Abellon - and this is his public comment in full - unedited - from 12 months ago..........
"I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?.
Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things.
The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve
    - My name is Chilo one of the survivors of the sewol ferry incident."
I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message.
The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and crew fled the ship the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to not move playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority. The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was overloaded. Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped...3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering he truth.... They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye. One of the civilian rescue divers later committed suicide after having to recover so many childrens bodies knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped. As a parent I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Horrific that your own goverment would perpetrate and then cover up such a incident... jailing dissenters. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people put on a Govt blacklist for protesting.
BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims when the tragedy occured. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know just how decent they are.
The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But The song is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They have since been singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world is now longing for a spring day.
Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day Explained video...I understand how hard it must have been to edit and post that video, but you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy. Thank you for sharing your journey, and helping to spread BTS message.. You are a really nice person. Sending greetings from Australia..... BORAHAE💜💜

This video is very complete since, in addition to discovering much more symbolism, it presents the political and social context around the tragedy and the situation in the country.
Although BTS has not openly accepted that it refers to that tragedy, since the MV was released, Koreans easily related it and for this reason the song is very loved, in 5 years it has not left the charts or dropped from 80th place.
As mentioned in the video, with the release of the MV a donation made earlier by BTS and Big Hit to the parents of the victims came to light, it should be noted that when the tragedy happened BTS had been debuted months. In 2020, during an interview with one of the parents, they commented that months after the tragedy, the boys and Bang PD visited them and lit incense (a tradition to honor the deceased); as a way of thanking the boys for going even knowing what they were risking with the Park administration, the parents decided to keep the visit a secret.
The video was released in 2017 before former President Park was dismissed (at that time it was suspended) so they took a risk as she could still return to power.
It is worth mentioning that the political trial was not for the tragedy itself, but for a case of corruption and influence peddling related to Park and her closest friend; according to the day of the tragedy, instead of attending to the situation, she spent many hours meeting with her friend.
Other information about Park is that she is the daughter of a dictator, who carried out a coup d'état, remaining in power for 18 years, until he was assassinated in 1979. Her mother died 5 years earlier in an attack. By the way, last December he received a presidential pardon.

The hardest part, at least for me, is seeing THAT news report.
    "All students rescued."
HOW do you explain that to so many parents?
Those sitting at home, hearing about it, worrying, waiting, wondering...then the news says your child is safe, you finally take that breath you've been holding for so long.
You just want to get to your child, bring them home, and try to forget.
    But then...you get there.
You arrive on site only to see and hear what's really going on. You see what's left of the ship above water, if any of it is by the time you arrive.
You ask around, talk to other parents, question the few students, teachers, and others who were actually rescued. "Where is my child?"
Then, you hear the real news.
    Yet still, you wait.
You wait because you have nothing else to do.
You wait knowing you can't do anything personally.
You wait because maybe some did survive, finding a small air pocket.
You wait because you're desperate to have your child back in your arms...safe...finally free and away from the danger.
As an older ARMY and parent, my second born was the same age as most of the kids on that ferry.
As a parent myself, I can't even begin to imagine that.
Being a human, not even as a parent, and no matter how corrupt the system is, how can ANYONE have a good explanation as to why they let that happen?
Why was it "better" to let all those people die rather than save them?
Why did they forbid the rescues?
Did they think if it sank, no one would know that it was overloaded?
    Exactly what did they gain?

So the ferry was eventually recovered but they never found all the bodies. Also there is such a large backstory about the cause of the sinking, including corruption by officials and also the company that runs the ferry to do with the refit of the ship. Also the original captain of the ship refused to take it out as he deemed it unsafe and they replaced him. So the captain of the ship was charged and convicted of murder. Also the crew that abandoned the ship were also prosecuted for murder and manslaughter. Im unsure about some of the other people involved but I know some committed suicide rather than face charges. There was also a US navy vessel that offered assistance and was turned away before they got to the site.

Spring Day is the queen of all BTS songs. It is the bravest and most controversial BTS song. This song has been in the Korean hit chart since released and would goes up the chart during spring. It's a deep, beautiful, meaningful song and tribute at the same time that can be passed on to generations to generations. I love how BTS uses their platform to spread awareness about injustices and other social issues through their music. Though they never really admitted that this song is in relation to the tragedy, Jin on the other hand has admitted that this is about an event (though he did not specifically mention what event). Salute to BTS for their talent. Much respect and love to them all.

Hey thank you for your commitment to finding out the truths about the sewol ferry. I would like to another point to said video but in regards of the lack of attention given by the SK Coast Guard. it was revealed that the reasoning why the CG didnt intervene in the rescue operations was that they were trained in marine rescue. it was noted that the personnel of the SK CG of were of ages ranging 45 and up and these were never trained in rescue operations in this caliber. When asked why, it was revealed that the Park Administration cut their budget to train trainees in marine rescues and most just did what they can, so when such a disaster occurred they were at lost what to do. Also please not the SK was under a tyrannt, nothing cannot be done with Park's approval...they literally had to ask every step of the way, how to do this, what about this and get an answer before it cud be done. Just as how the children died because they had to listen to an elder command in the awareness of danger approaching the said cud be said here with the CG and the government. A crew member who revealed was the only person trained in diving rescue said he was 2hr away from the nearest port and he tried his best to arrive, the search was called off. He was so ashamed that nothing was or cud be done due his crew lack of training.
It was noted in a New Yorker Times interview that an US marine ship was nearby and received the distress call but couldnt assist as they were denied by the SK government that it was their problem and they want no foreign involvement. Other CG who taught they cud be sung as heroes told the higher ups that a rescue was done which was why the news broadcast that all passengers were rescued and when they realised that they hugely messed up, was why they turned away the local fishermen who tried to go back and dive in for rescue. In the end the CG was used as a scape goat by the SK government as they were disbanded and shamed by the whole country for something they weren't taught to do properly.
I will placed the link to the video here for your own viewing and feedback...its a disturbing thing that happened that could have been avoided or maybe better addressed at. Thankfully Park was impeached and hopefully the country can moved on and to better equipped their service men in the future.

I know im a year late to this video but the 299 death toll you got is technically right, because even though 304 died, 5 bodies are still missing to this day and its been over 9 years since this tragedy. So only 299 people have been put to rest.

I’m glad that you watched this documentary (I agree it’s harrowing) but it’s important that people understand the depth of BTS’s work. This is not your typical boy band (hate the name boy band anyway). Everything they do is thoughtful and intelligent emotionally and rationally. Spring Day is my favourite BTS track, it moves me every time I hear it.

A lot of the real life footage is from the documentary What Went Wrong in the South Korean Ferry Disaster? | The New Yorker th-cam.com/video/5_A8dq2fA5o/w-d-xo.html
Have watched the documentary and it is heartbreaking. Many Koreans artists no matter what platform they were banned for speaking out were blacklisted.

I’m late here. But yeah, my life partner is from South Korea. The stories he tells about how corrupt the government is in trying to covering up things from economic issues, to social issues, safety, and sadly..tragedy. I’ve been, the people have been amazing and kind, but people in charge and up too are toxic.

Hi there...., thank you so much for reacting to this to, 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This video is really heart breaking to watch.... no matter how many times I watched it,
It's OK to be angry..... I think who ever watch that family and parents who are bagging those people to save their children must feel like they want to punch the guy's face....
Also the anger to the government who are sitting that time, all the people who involved in this corruption, the coastguard... I don't know how they live there life after that....
Thank you once again.... I really appreciate your reaction....🙏🏻🙂
    (Pardon for my English....🙏🏻🥲)
    Salam from jakakarta, Indonesia 🙏🏻💜💜

The deaths of the students seems so needless....I mean, what did the government have to gain/loose by not rescuing them? Their deaths were not 'needed' in order to cover up the illegal modifications to the ship. So why did the government work so hard to let them die? Also, I've been waiting, but have seen no comment by BTS about President Park, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison, recently being pardoned after only 4 years by the same outgoing President who appointed BTS as Korean Ambassadors. I would think BTS and the whole of Korea would be outraged by this. She and those complicit should be rotting in prison....so, the government remains corrupt and nothing has changed. It's amazing to me that the Elite politicians who run corrupt governments, including my own, will even create crises that sacrifices lives....even the lives of children....to move their agenda forward. Usually they do so and blame someone else...usually someone the know who is an outcast, loner. This is known as a 'false flag'. False flags are recurring, IMHO, over and over again in the US. What we are witnessing here is the "fundamental transformation" of America by our own government to move a greater agenda forward. I knew this would be difficult to watch, thank you for taking the time to do so. ARMY grandma

If you watch snowpiecer watch the movie not the USA drama series . The remake series of Snowpiecer is really bad while the original movie was excellent.

Such a disaster in all aspects…the fact that BTS spoke on this at all could’ve ended their careers (they’d only just started to make it big), but they did it anyway. Made me love them even more, even though this whole thing made me so angry. The poor parents who were lied to outright🥺
