    Another tip is when you format your new SD card, don't use the built in format option in game mode. Manually format your SD card in desktop mode using the included KDE Partition Manager in the start menu. This will increase the SD downloading speed significantly for most users.

    • @billzombie
      @billzombie ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Formatted mine with the built in format option in game mode and really haven't had a complaint about download speed. I have the base model deck with no mods so the SD card is my primary storage for my game installs.

      @@nastyline9693don’t worry too much about it, he’s talking about optimizing download speeds if you have an sd card to put in the steam deck. You don’t really have to worry about that. If you want extra storage just put the sd card inside and it will get formatted (which basically gets the sd card ready for you to put games on it). But yeah if you don’t need more storage than you don’t have to worry about it.

    Comment on the external battery bank:
    Look up the output of the battery, most low price ones, even if they're of good quality and have good capacity, top off at 5V and 2-3amps for a total of 10-15watts of output. That is more than fine for a phone even while under heavy use, but the steam Deck does need at least a 20watt (so 5volts, 4amps) charger to be able to charge while in use, otherwise it might actually still drain even while charging if you're using it to game. Basically any battery bank will work if the steam deck is off or sleeping though, so you could still use pretty much any old external battery you have lying around to give it a bit of extra juice between play sessions if you don't have an outlet handy.

      @@MattWilesbase model is definitely the winner in terms of bang for a buck.. i mean, it has the same perfomance in terms of fps and everything. The only difference is the storage which can be expanded with a sd card and i watched a test that checked the loading times for gamss with the sd card, the ssd of the mid and high tier models and the mmc storage of the base model without the sd card and i kid you not, the ssd was the slowest in most cases.. the sd card loading times were almost always 2,3 seconds faster and the mmc storage also.. the only difference where the ssd was faster was booting up the steam deck where it was like 3 seconds faster. So yeah, definitely go for the base model. I dont like the high tier screen, the colors look faded and not as sharp so for me the "anti glare" screen is definitely a negative thing on top of being way pricier

    as your using the system, the steam deck will always use more power then when you charge it so if you charge is slowly, your steam deck isn't going to charge at all, say your battery is at 30% and you have it slowly charging you got to 31% charge, if you're playing an intensive game or any game at all you will notice that 31% will drop to 30% and it may fluctuate remember always have more power coming in then when it being used to counter the discharging affects

      Someone else said that too. It's not necessary. Here was my response there:
      Considering a2 spec is above the Steam Deck SD slot capabilities, there would be next to no difference, if any at all. It only supports up to roughly 100mb/s and that's the capabilities of a1. A2 would only really benefit you in random read/write which doesn't help much at all with games as they are mostly sequential reads. UHS-1 Class 10 is really all you need to worry about for max SD card performance in Steam Deck

      I saw it also on reddit, that the ideal sd card specs regardless of size, it has to be U3, and 7:45 A2

    screen protector on the 500gb model MUST be matte, otherwise you just paid the extra money for no reason. I threw out my glass screen protectors because they were glossy finished. Get the Spiggen case with the lanyard, will stop you dropping it, more-so than bumping.

    i really do not recommend using a screen protector with the 512gb version it looks horrible with the non reflecting screen. I tried two different brands one had a more frosted texture but it lead to heavy washing effect with the colors and the other clear one just gave a lot of reflections which made the non reflecting screen pointless.

    • @Goldie_Roger
      @Goldie_Roger ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been using a screen protector since day 1 on my 512 and it looks fine. Yes, it's a little annoying the few times I've used this thing under direct sunlight (almost never because I usually play in-doors or in my car). But at least glare goes away when you move around or change position. Scratches don't. No matter what excuses you give, at the end of the day, your excuses aren't going to protect my screen from being scratched. If I was confident enough to open up the Deck and install a 512 nvme drive, I would have bought the 64gb model and upgraded it myself. But many of us are NOT confident to even open up the Deck, let alone remove and install parts of it. Even the confident people doing this are breaking their SD cards because they forgot to remove it. So we buy 512 gb and slap a screen protector on it.
      All my other handheld devices have scratched up screens and I've regretted not using screen protectors just because I didn't want to spend money on them.

      @@Goldie_Roger yes you are correct but for all the people who like to switch out parts you can order the non reflecting screen on ifixit like every replacement part for the deck
      The plans for it are open available i use the jsaux backplate with the awesome long back buttons.. i think when replacement parts are available and there is a bag for it its not a big deal to get some scatches.. at least for me. Everyone is different in this regard i am not a big fan to put a handheld in all kind of cases and screen protectors it makes the steam deck much bigger

    • @RobeatWorld
      @RobeatWorld 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Goldie_RogerI understand you need to use a screen protector. As you stated, your other devices have scratches on them. But if you’re like me it would only make the quality of your deck worse. I’ve had a switch for years with no scratches or screen protectors. Same as my current phone.
      I’m not wasting the anti glare on my new 512gb deck model by putting a screen protector on it. The degrade in image quality just isn’t worth it FOR ME. But for others it might be if they’re more prone to damaging their devices.
