Having been a portable gamer since GameBoy (I'm 41), I bought the Steam Deck to play because I didn't have a dedicated PC and at the time, couldn't find a PS5. Fast forward now a couple years, I have a nice gaming PC that I do all my photo editing on, as well as gaming, and we finally got that PS5. My most use case at this point has been, just as you described; sitting on the couch while my wife watches a show or plays another game. When I travel, I always take the Steam Deck and my iPad mini, because I like reading, at it's my main ereader. So, it's not weird at all. Perfect example: Last night I was playing my game on the PC. My wife came home. I grabbed the deck and sat on the couch and she watched a show. I get my gaming in and she doesn't sit there bored. It's really a great relationship tool... 😛
Just now informing myself on the steam deck. I want something to just grab and play easily on the couch or in bed. And I really want to play Hogwarts Legacy but my Laptop couldn’t take it or it wouldn’t be enjoyable I think, and I also don’t have a desktop gaming PC. The steam deck makes a really good portable clone hero party system. Just plug it into a tv with a dock that has a couple usbs. Plug the guitars in and play
So far, my favorite way to play the Steam Deck is by clicking "confirm payment" lol. After 3 years of torment and not being able to justify throwing down the money, I FINALLY bought my Steam Deck yesterday! It should arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday 😁😍
@bxfbbxcbxc5328 nope, it should arrive tomorrow. 3-5 business days my @$$ lol. The wait has been absolute torture. But I got a ton of accessories for it already. The eSwap S Pro controller, a bundle of tempered glass screen protectors, the Ugreen 13-in-1 dock, a 516gb MicroSD (all of that has arrived already) as well as the Jsaux RGB vented backplate, which should be here in a few days.
A lot of people on the internet recently are like "Oh well the Asus ROG Ally has way better specs and performance than the Steam Deck since this runs at 4k 120hz while your crappy steam deck runs at 4k 60hz🤓" But like literally no one cares cuz all you need is the comfortability and satisfaction that the steam deck provides for you. The Ally is a windows 11 OS anyways which is so bad.
I use the deck as my primary computer (I’m a Linux guy) and it is so convenient. I am playing a game at my desk with keyboard and mouse and I want to go somewhere or downstairs or something, I just unplug the dock and take it with me. If I’m in desktop mode I just go to full screen or in game mode no changes. Absolutely amazing!
I use my steam deck as a desktop pc. I was thinking about building a pc with linux anyways so it works out. Plus, I love playing games on it in handheld mode. It is just so much more comfortable to hold than a switch.
Playing on the couch while my wife is watching shows is my #1 too. Good point on how it took me away from too much social media, didn't notice this until you mentioned it.
I might be in minority but I use my steam deck as laptop replacement in dock mode (my laptop is a 7 years old one with gtx970m). On top of that I play on it games from my backlog. A few times a year when I’m visiting family I have an old 22” (1650x1050, 16:10 aspect ratio display) and additional controller and older games or indies work fine. For a less demanding games (shapezIO and Opus Magnum I user 1440p display and mouse and keyboard in dock mode) I’m happy with this device for the price I paid.
absolutely loved your rubber tree spreading in the background. Hope mine reach that crown someday (waiting for it to grow more to start trimming and spreading) btw, love your content about the deck. Helped me a lot on deciding to get one.
My favorite way to unwind is to watch a movie and play games. Before I mostly used my switch but now I can play Red Dead Redemption 2 with comprobable FPS to an actual console while watching One Piece on my couch, peak gamer moments.
Using your portable device on the couch while you significant other (or kids, or whoever) is doing something on the TV is amazing. I got the PS Portal for that very purpose (literally sitting on the same couch where I'd play the PS5). That led to a G Cloud to also stream Xbox to retro handheld emulators, to, you guessed it, the Steam Deck. This is also my #1 way of playing the deck. Cheers!
It's funny how you mentionned getting it in you backpack to meet up friends. I did just that, and it was great every time I did. It felt super natural to dock it on any TV or projector and then adding up my controllers or them and just launch small multilocal games. Just like old days when we played togeher. Overcooked, Stick fight, Ultimate Chicken horse and Castle Crasher were generally the favorite.
My SD has replaced my laptop as a go to pc. I dock it to tv to watch movies or play games. Or i couch game. All my emulators and roms are there too and when i am travelling, I can take the complete experience with me. I no longer need to carry that huge bulky gaming laptop with massive charger.
@@donoffitness2892 in Linux u have multiple word and Excel editors and for video editing, dan vinci resolve works great. If u want to run any windows app, Proton works flawlessly for most. It took me a little time to get used to Linux but now I have no reason to go back to windows.
my number one use case is the same, i could isolate myself to my PC on the other end of the house, which i still do sometimes, but sometimes i would rather play the steam deck in the living room on the couch while my wife or son watches TV and I'm still spending time with them.
Your main reason is exactly why I love my Deck. I can play games while my wife watches tv. Even if we’re doing different things, we’re still together in the same room. It makes a big difference.
I honestly don't understand people saying they play on their phone or handheld on the toilet. If you are on the toilet long enough to necessitate playing a video game then that means you are chronically constipated, which is a serious medical malady. You need to focus on changing your eating habits to a healthy diet much more than worrying about being entertained on the toilet. Seriously, it should never take more than a few minutes to pass a normal stool, which certainly isn't long enough to even boot up a game.
When u have kids and a wife, the toilet becomes way more then a place to take a shit. It’s the place where no one disturbs u, a place where u can get in zen modus, it becomes a cocoon.
a really good way to use it is if your friend wants to play with you but you are at a spot where the other person doesn't have access to a pc and doesn't have a steam deck then you can use steam link and they can view your screen from their phone, then you can connect an external controller to the steam deck and give it to them (i do this with my friend alot and we play "a way out" which is a really good co-op game with an amazing story)
Awesome video man - totally agree on the couch Decking. It’s a lot of the same feelings as console playing but obviously with my PC library, and to some extent, being able to keep the TV off in the mornings just creates a more relaxing atmosphere as well.
That was my main reason for getting a Switch a few years ago. I just had no gaming time because I have a wife and kids and could never play what I wanted to. The steam deck was an obvious upgrade to that and it's pretty much exactly how I use it 90% of the time.
Steam Deck on the couch is SO under rated. Like I don’t always want to sit at my gaming sit up and Stare at my monitor, being able to get comfortable and play the same games is the GOAT
I use it as a tool for relaxing after a long day. I have a collection of my favorite books (I've read 12 of them). I adore my steam deck as much as I adore my books. My books are for exercising my mind, my steam deck is for relaxing my mind.
I’ve literally never took my steam deck out the house and have my own gaming room set up with high end gaming rig. I got my steam deck purely so I could chill in bed or on the couch with my partner and still be a gamer. Best purchase I ever made only booted my actual gaming PC 2 or 3 times since I got the deck
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels guilty for playing games sometimes i feel like I could being doing something more productive but I guess it’s also what I like to do
Im an MMO player and since I’ve got 3 kids and married it was kinda hard to play because I didn’t wanted to sit at a PC away from my wife. I wanted to chill with her in Th e couch watching a show and play on the side. A Laptop kinda solved that but the Steam deck is literally what I was waiting for. It’s amazing
Wife and I fall asleep to scary youtube videos every night. Jsaux case has a kick stand on it that makes it super easy to hold over our heads as we watch people's houses get haunted until we are both adequately tired. I do the projector thing as well, and a pair of vitrea AR glasses which has been my favorite addition to game in public. I've used desktop mode to remote into issues at work and fix them. I play dos games from the 80s in dosbox in game mode. Roms/emulators. Stream audio to my BT speaker. Use it as a monitor for when I twitch stream and I need to check the stream. Used it as an alarm clock one night. Thing is too damned useful. The OLED gets really good battery life for all that OG stuff like 8 to 10 hours. Although I've noticed the LCD model has a minimum wattage used of about 3.25 and the OLED comes in at about 5 watts minimum. It does get better battery life, just thought that was strange.
You nailed it with the last point, now i get to relax next to mt loved one while she watches her shows. Pretty much played the entirety of Elden Ring on the deck, beat the game and am waiting for the DLC (planning on huying it next week) and going to try to beat as well.
After you said you use your projector with your Deck and I saw your Alex Grey book, I subbed. You're me somehow; everything you do, I do! Except I get carsick unfortunately... it's a real bummer, actually. The only tip I would give you is that if you like using a controller, the touchpads on the Dualshock/Dualsense controllers work so well for Steam Input they far outclass the Xbox controller for Steam Deck. Anything I change on my deck controls can be mirrored on my PS4 controller (minus touch input on the sticks, but I almost never bother with that).
i grew up reading in the car on road trips and i guess i just got lucky, i can get motion sick if its a fast paced FPS in the car, but i just avoid those
i had that problem too but I used sea-bands for motion sickness, i very recommend that thing. i finally don't feel this nausea thingy while looking at phone or playing on steam deck or even reading a book
I have the ROG Ally swapped to Bazzite. So pretty much a steam deck. I work at Walmart and get an hour lunch break every day. That’s literally what I do for my lunch break now.
I primarily use mine as a desktop setup. I started out with Windows 10 before accidentally "upgraded" to 11. I went back to steamos just a few days ago
This was going to be the year that I finally built my first proper gaming PC, but I’ve been thinking about getting a Steam Deck instead. While I know I’d be getting much better performance with a desktop, the handheld capability is enough of an upside, for me personally, that I don’t mind the drawbacks. I’ve played games on 9 fps at 800x600, in the past. I can live with getting “only” 30-40 in a game like Elden Ring. Especially if it means being able to play Elden Ring wherever I want.
If it's mostly just games then it's a solid choice. However, If you're gonna need it to do more than just games, then there is a lot to take into consideration.
I saw another TH-camr make a good point, I can’t remember who it was though, but they said “The Steam Deck is great for busy gamers”. And it seems like it couldn’t be more true.
Devices like the Switch and Deck are perfect for those in the military. Sudden postings in places you can't take a PC (Particularly if you're going on a warship)
All kinds of links in the description, no projector though! That is such a sick idea which projector do you use, and what's your setup like? Do they have hdmi these days? Bluetooth? I'd love to do that!
Спасибо! Все думаю, нужен ли мне steam deck или нет, твои слова меня убедили, что нужен! Проводить время рядом с друзьями и играть всем вместе, или же просто находится рядом, это очень здорово! Удачи тебе парень!
It's bulky but I refuse to travel without my Deck. Took a trip to Ireland and yeah it was a lifesaver on my downtime. I also didn't know how big of a gamechanger it would be but....AR glasses! Holy hell my Xreal Air 2s are by far the best purchase I've made for my Deck.
I use my steamdeck most just laying in bed. I work nights and often struggle to sleep through the night when I'm at home so instead of getting up and waking up my gf and getting distracted playing games on my pc for hours, I can pull out the SD for a bit and probably fall back to sleep after playing a game for an hour.
I will take the advice of using the SD instead of the mobile, i'm getting tired of scrolling vertical videos and feeling that im wasting my time. By the way, what cod zombies is that one? I would love to play split screen with friends but I couldn't find any zombies on PC that has that feature.
My steam deck is basically a console. I keep it docked 99% of the time and got it hooked up to gigabit ethernet. I download big games and play em, 2TB of storage on deck, a pc in the other room i stream games off of to my deck as well. So those big hard to run games on the steam deck i just run off my pc. Even games that run well on the steam deck I'll stream from my PC. Best possible graphics and a steady 60 is nice with little to no delay at all with inputs. Best purchase i ever made
I just got a preowned steamdeck for 200 euro. Pretty happy about the price :) Already bought a 1tb corsair mini and Arctic cooling paste, the idea is to speed it up and freshen it up a little. Do you recommend replacing fan (or recommend anything else) while Im still opening up the device?

I use the deck as my primary computer (I’m a Linux guy) and it is so convenient. I am playing a game at my desk with keyboard and mouse and I want to go somewhere or downstairs or something, I just unplug the dock and take it with me. If I’m in desktop mode I just go to full screen or in game mode no changes. Absolutely amazing!
I use my deck mainly for retrogaming and I love it.
Same mainly ps2 and GameCube games for nostalgia purposes
Well, there would be lighter and better solutions for this. And I love my Steam Deck.
@@jjtheman523does it handle ps2 games very well because that’s my childhood and I have a lot of PS2 games
@@TakeAchance365 I’d say about 90% of the ps2 library runs moderate to very well from my experience
I just got one I didnt realize how much better emulation is for me on the deck
For a less demanding games (shapezIO and Opus Magnum I user 1440p display and mouse and keyboard in dock mode)
I’m happy with this device for the price I paid.
2:30 I feel you brother
absolutely loved your rubber tree spreading in the background. Hope mine reach that crown someday (waiting for it to grow more to start trimming and spreading)
btw, love your content about the deck.
Can you use it as a pc and use other apps like word or something like that
@@donoffitness2892 in Linux u have multiple word and Excel editors and for video editing, dan vinci resolve works great. If u want to run any windows app, Proton works flawlessly for most. It took me a little time to get used to Linux but now I have no reason to go back to windows.
There's a web browser version of Word, that should work on the Steam Deck.
my number one use case is the same, i could isolate myself to my PC on the other end of the house, which i still do sometimes, but sometimes i would rather play the steam deck in the living room on the couch while my wife or son watches TV and I'm still spending time with them.
Just pulled the trigger on the 1tb model! Can't wait to try it out!
I adore mine. Really helped me get through my backlog.
2:04 My brother, that gameplay is looking cinematic.
😂😂 you right
a really good way to use it is if your friend wants to play with you but you are at a spot where the other person doesn't have access to a pc and doesn't have a steam deck then you can use steam link and they can view your screen from their phone, then you can connect an external controller to the steam deck and give it to them (i do this with my friend alot and we play "a way out" which is a really good co-op game with an amazing story)
ah the old issue of splitscreen
"I got 4 people playing and i can't see shit on my crt"
hahaha exactly
Split screen was great but everyone screen cheats like crazy and acts like they would never
@@donniedarko4497 Me? No! Never!

I damaged my leg last year and had to stay at home for 3 weeks. Having a Steam Deck with Armored Core 6 on it helped a lot )
You have a new age, LAN Party-style SD “Bug Out Bag” to roll out asap for any and all gaming emergencies!
I take the ferry to work a few days each week. It's a twenty minute ride across the bay to San Francisco. The deck ia a great way to pass the time.
Wish I bought one sooner, hands down the best handheld in today's market
After you said you use your projector with your Deck and I saw your Alex Grey book, I subbed. You're me somehow; everything you do, I do! Except I get carsick unfortunately... it's a real bummer, actually. The only tip I would give you is that if you like using a controller, the touchpads on the Dualshock/Dualsense controllers work so well for Steam Input they far outclass the Xbox controller for Steam Deck. Anything I change on my deck controls can be mirrored on my PS4 controller (minus touch input on the sticks, but I almost never bother with that).
This video was so informative! Thanks so much☺️
2:33 how do you play the deck in the car? You don't get motion sick? I barely can watch a video on my phone while in the car
i grew up reading in the car on road trips and i guess i just got lucky, i can get motion sick if its a fast paced FPS in the car, but i just avoid those
How did you get 7 hrs on the deck in the car?
@@wasdw246 car charging port
@wasdw246 and also you're not gonna spend 100% of that time to play the deck, there might be 1-3hour downtime of just chilling
i had that problem too but I used sea-bands for motion sickness, i very recommend that thing. i finally don't feel this nausea thingy while looking at phone or playing on steam deck or even reading a book
I have the ROG Ally swapped to Bazzite. So pretty much a steam deck.
I work at Walmart and get an hour lunch break every day. That’s literally what I do for my lunch break now.
Play a horror game on the deck at a spooky location ( abandoned place, forest in the night ) with your headphones on.
NO SIR
Great video! Which one to grab? Glossy vs matte display?
I prefer glossy
Would be cool to see a list or better yet a video of your favorite games to play local co op / competetive multiplayer on steam deck 👍🏻
You got it :)
Great breakdown!
I primarily use mine as a desktop setup. I started out with Windows 10 before accidentally "upgraded" to 11. I went back to steamos just a few days ago
I also found it enjoyable to play SD while doing cardio on the treadmill at home
Your tumbnail says 2.000 hours
2:30 bro i feel the same way 🤣🤣
🥲
My plan is to use SD when i have no electricity(it's about 50% of the time). Surely i can play a lot of games without internet connection, yes?
yes!
I saw another TH-camr make a good point, I can’t remember who it was though, but they said “The Steam Deck is great for busy gamers”. And it seems like it couldn’t be more true.
I do have the same guilty feeling ! First time I hear someone talking about it 😮❤
I like to use it to stream my playstation 5 and cloud play xbox games. I just think the games looks amazing on the oled screen.
Devices like the Switch and Deck are perfect for those in the military. Sudden postings in places you can't take a PC (Particularly if you're going on a warship)
I hear you, it's definitely a good option if you're on the go!
Great video! I use mine while driving my car 😊
Playing games in bed is a game changer
Getting the refurbished lcd model tomorrow
I’m getting one because I don’t have a TV in my room and I miss the feeling of being a kid under the blanket and playing on a hand held device 😂
All kinds of links in the description, no projector though! That is such a sick idea which projector do you use, and what's your setup like? Do they have hdmi these days? Bluetooth? I'd love to do that!
here's the projector i used in the video amzn.to/3KUgVki
Спасибо! Все думаю, нужен ли мне steam deck или нет, твои слова меня убедили, что нужен! Проводить время рядом с друзьями и играть всем вместе, или же просто находится рядом, это очень здорово! Удачи тебе парень!
Another good video Nicepool, thank you
It's bulky but I refuse to travel without my Deck.
So you can connect 4 controllers on the steam deck ? Unless I’m misunderstanding.
yup! i do it all the time
I will take the advice of using the SD instead of the mobile, i'm getting tired of scrolling vertical videos and feeling that im wasting my time.
Pretty happy about the price :)
Already bought a 1tb corsair mini and Arctic cooling paste, the idea is to speed it up and freshen it up a little.
Do you recommend replacing fan (or recommend anything else) while Im still opening up the device?
i ll think about replacing thermal paste
Man actually is waiting in the kitchen for his food to cook 🍳 .
All valid reasons why I want a Steam Deck. I don't like sitting at my PC desk anymore to play my games. I wanna lay downnn or sit on the couch
I have poor eyesight and its way easier to ser a smaller screen close to my face than anything on a tv
